I'd like to propose a Trek rewatch for the summer. TOS is apparently available via youtube which would help with the dvd-less (me included) and would tie in with the movie. Or we could go with DS9 (my favorite and I own the sets (not pushing, I swear)). Wherever we do start, we can definitely continue with more series. As bad as Enterprise was, I really miss the episode by episode discussions and think we'd have fun watching another series together.
I need help determining a good viewing rate. How many episodes can we get through in a week. One is probably too slow but I don't want people to fall behind either. The Supernatural rewatch is covering 4 which might be a bit much for us.

I suspect we would go at a different pace for each series. There will likely be less discussion for TOS than there would be for DS9, you know? Not that that answers your question though - HA! We could always start out with say two-a-week and adjust as needed.
I think another thing to decide is where the discussion will take place. Should we start episode threads or keep it confined to the existing season threads?
TOS is also available in full on
cbs.com. Someone suggested including TAS and I'd love that but don't know how easily obtainable the episodes are for those without the DVDs.

I just realized that I have a bunch of TNG and DS9 episodes on tape. If it was good the first time I taped it during the weekly re-run. Now, some of the tapes are 15 years old and I haven't played them in 5+ years, but if they work I'd be able to join in on most episodes. Whee!

Not sure how this works for other shows, but wouldn't the discussion remain here. If not, there are season threads for all the shows now (Thanks to
Eegah). It would probably be bad form to create individual episode threads.
How about three episodes per week? Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights? Not like there is anything else on until the fall.

I think we're better off sticking with the existing season threads and stick with planning here. That way anyone not participating in the rewatch can still join in.
I just went to add TOS S1 to my netflix list and found that it's available for streaming so that's another option.
Does anyone know where I can find a fairly definitive episode list I can use for scheduling?
StarTrek.com has them by airdate and production date. I like
bel's idea of starting with 2 a week and adjusting as needed. Once we decide on a list I'll post a schedule and we can meet back
here.
belsum
May 28, 2009 @ 10:25 pm
Wikipedia has them listed
by episode number. That seems fine by me. The only thing I think we'd have to decide is if we'll start with "The Cage" or skip it.

Yeah, that's how we've been doing The Great Farscape Rewatch.
So we seem to be agreed on TOS, starting at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start?

starting with 2 a week and adjusting as needed.
Sounds good. We'll probably have to pick the speed with the early seasons of TNG as there are some really unwatchable episodes back to back.
start with "The Cage" or skip it.
I would vote to include
The Cage. Pike and Shouting Spock are too awesome to skip.

Nice find, jake.
I'd vote to do The Cage - It's been over 40 years, if you're interested in a TOS rewatch, you should probably either already know it, or should learn it in the first place.

Post here or the TOS threads?
I think we're better off keeping our thoughts in the relevant Season threads
here and keep this for planning.
Does twop still keep a calendar? Is there anywhere else we can post this to let more people know what we're doing? I think I'll share a link in the
movie movie thread.

Yes, there is a calendar on the main forum index page. It's loaded with the BSG re-watch info, so we should be able to add TOS re-watch info to it.

Thanks for doing all the admin work akg!
Looks like the Cage, Dagger of the Mind, and City on the Edge of Forever all have their own threads already. I'd say the first and last of that list may warrant enough discussion to stay separate like that and everything else will be fine in the season threads. I'm excited!

Me too. My TOS viewing has been very spotty (especially the later seasons).

I'll see what I can do. It would be nice to get more people involved so we're not just talking to ourselves.

I wish I had the TOS DVDs because I'd be up for that (downloading/streaming is not an option on my creaky old computer, sadly). But if you get up to TNG or DS9 I'm in.

The Cage has its own thread
here. Most of the episodes won't have enough discussion to separate, however, so we'll meet in the TOS S1 thread
here.

Probably because the computer is so very old. YouTube has been wonky ever since the most recent version of Flash came out.
cutecouple

Sadly, Flash is always a giant pain. If you've upgraded to the latest version of Flash, there's not much more that can be done with an old computer.

belsum told me about the rewatch, and since my shiny new DVDs arrived last night, I'll be joining in! This is more of a "watch" than a "rewatch" for me, since I've only seen a handful of TOS eps, despite being a big fan of the movies as well as TNG and DS9.

Aug 17, 2009 @ 5:47 pm
I'd like to continue and I think that 2 eps are still appropriate. Since USA took away my NCIS marathon at 5pm, I like to throw on some TOS while I eat dinner. (You know, now that I've caught up and all.)
GoldfishGirl42

I'm up for continuing as well. Even though I watch way too much TV as it is, there are still a few free hours during the fall that I could slip TOS into.
