The tenth-round results show.

tip and fall
A big fat WTF @ the Design-A-Dance quickstep. I smell a conspiracy to promote the wonder triplets! Like I'm sure they all got the same number of votes (well, I know that the girls were only completing with each other, same for the guys, but my point still stands). And of course it had to be the four biggest muggers on the show...ETA: I would much rather have them cut Derek and Julianne out completely (deliver me from the children of the corn) and put in someone like...Jonathan. Mmmm, Jonathan...

Carrie Ann, please do NOT encourage other male pros to wear gym shorts.

Glad that Ty left. It was his time and I had soured on him by this point. Hope to see Chelsie next season though!
tolliveramc
I've only been watching three seasons, but this was my favorite results show yet. Raphael Saadiq was a refreshing break from the teenyboppers, the showdown between Mayo and Anna, complete with Kym and Maks, was fabulous, even the Design-a-Dance segment was fun. And, of course, a classy but satisfying elimination. Hope next week will be as fun to watch.

ETA: I threw my pro votes tonight to Anna.
kimmykaybee
I am so proud of Ty, I think he has done a wonderful job in the competition. He has improved so much and I think Chelsie is so proud of him and how far he has come. He may not have been the best dancer, but he had a wonderful personality and his ballroom dances were charming and gorgeous.

Chelsie has done a wonderful job teaching Ty and together, their personalities are made of win. I thought their last dance was adorable, much like a father dancing with his daughter. I really hope they stay in touch after the show.

I thought Anna was great and I loved her dances with Maks. I really hope she is the new pro next year.
sab85
Aww, sad to see Ty go. Everyone knew but it was still sad. Their twirl at the end was cute as could be. Well, the finals are what everyone predicted after Week 1 and have the three best dancers, as it should be.

Most scared person on that final stage-Tony.

Mayo’s tango music was the Mango music! As soon as it started up I was like, hey, I know this! I know it’s probably classic tango music but they really shouldn't’t use it again, when I hear it I automatically get the image of Jonathan Robert’s hilarious hamming it up in my head.

Anna’s quickstep was incredibly frantic. It seemed like both the Latin dances were like 30 seconds.

TBTB went easy on the pro dancers choreographing again. Which is probably fair and right but all I can think is yeah wait until they give you Thriller to paso to (or really, half the paso music on this show).

Didn’t realize how much I missed Derek until I saw him in the pro dance. The dance though was a big WTF? That quickstep was barely a quickstep, way too much “messing about” [/Len] and use of props. The dance last year was frantic (it was the Houghs) but it was also fun and seemed like a jive, this not so much.

Grassy knoll time- I think the Houghs won by a landslide and TBTB realized that they probably shouldn’t have the exact same pros win two years in a row. So they added second-place Lacey and Mark (which, honestly, really doesn’t help the Wonder Trip backlash).

Anna D. for the win! (I can’t pick between the Top Three, any (or all) of them for the win!)
whyistherumgone
I'm so glad Shawn & Mark made the final. I don't think they'll win, but I don't care. They made it to the end, that's all that matters to me.

I enjoyed the Design-A-Dance. I don't care if Derek & Julianne got the most votes, and they didn't want a repeat of last year so they just decided to add Mark & Lacey because they were the next highest. If that's what happened, it was a good decision, IMO. I enjoyed it.

I really like Ty, I don't like Melissa very much, and I'm kind of indifferent on Gilles. But this is the right final 3.
bluvelvet
The strongest three remain standing and Ty goes home appropriately. Hopefully the F2 is Melissa/Gilles, I didn't get the final three I wanted but 2/3 isn't bad. I feel good for Tony though the last time he saw the finals was season 2 *smile*. Also one it was down to Melissa/Ty I knew Ty was a goner, seriously.

The design a dance was surprisingly just okay for me. Seeing who they chose I kinda wanted them to do a Jive since Julianne/Mark/Derek are all excellent at it. Since it was a quickstep, I kinda wished they had gone another route with the choreo. It was also nice to see Derek again, although he needs to cut his hair.

Anna did much better than Mayo tonight but I think either would be a good addition to the show. One question about Anna, does she have a droopy eyelid on the left?
SanLynn
America voted right tonight as far as who was eliminated but I don't get the Design a Dance results at all. Enough with the Ballas/Hough trifecta of doom already. I've seen enough of those three to last me at least two or three seasons. Take some time off! Focus on your music.

For the first time I watched the pro competition and while I agree with the judges that Anna deserves the slot I don't get the Mayo tear down at all. I thought he did fine.

Guess that's why I'm not a judge.

The freestyles should be interesting next week.
teevee
I'm so glad Shawn & Mark made the final. I don't think they'll win, but I don't care. They made it to the end, that's all that matters to me.

Same. I'm just hoping Shawn dances well next week and Mark stops being...Mark. That guy is so hit or miss. Give me some hits, okay?!

I don't care who wins at this point. I am warming up to Tony (but Melissa can still go somewhere) and Gilles makes me smile. Although, Cheryl can kind of go somewhere, too...harvestbasket don't hurt me.
Miss Mia
Ty was the right one to go home tonight, based on the dancing.

But it means my season ends as well. Ty was the only one I was invested in, from week one.

Can't wait for SYTYCD to start.
WholahayBrown
Well, much as I love Ty, dislike Melissa and am indifferent to Shawn, the right three dancers are in the final.

I hope Gilles wins so much, I might actually vote for the first time.

I think Anna is better suited for the show, but I preferred Mayo's dances tonight. I love Kym. Her legs are amazing.
allbymyself
Aw, Ty, I loved you, but was so scard they'd call you safe, and the hate would start, I'll miss your humor, you're a classy guy, and Jewel is a lucky gal.
Can't predict a winner, I like Gilles, but would love to see Tony win, he looked almost sick waiting for the results.
Tasya
I voted for Anna for the new pro. I don't think that Mayo has anything to add to the current stable of pros, and sorry to say, he's too feminine for me. I realize that a lot of dancers are gay, but Mayo dances very effete, whereas all of the current male dancers are very "male" despite their sexualities (I have no idea of anyone's sexuality, just saying).

I liked the design-a-dance even though it was not a quickstep. It was fun seeing Lacey again, and out of the Ballas-Hough group, I only want Derek to stick around. I thought I disliked them all, but nope, it's just Julianne and Mark.
katwomn59
Sigh! I knew it was time, but I sure am gonna miss Ty. I am glad he went out on a high note though. Samba Rolls!

Gilles FTW!
ordinaryangel
I thought Raphael Saadiq was pretty awesome. Loved the song, loved the performance. So much better than the usual dreck this show tries to promote.

I thought Anna's second dance was horribly frantic and just...weird. I actually preferred Mayo's Cha Cha to it, because it seems like the kind of routine you'd see a celebrity perform. I felt bad that the judges were so anti-Mayo/pro-Anna as well. Why even have the audience vote if the judges are basically telling them what to do.

The Design a Dance was meh. But I was thrilled to see Lacey in there with the Wonder Triplets. Are those three really that popular? Really?

I'm glad Ty made it as far as he did, but yeah, it was totally time for him to go. Either Giles or Melissa for the win. I like Shawn, but lately I've been really iffy about Mark, and if he wins, it's just going to be another damn Hough-Ballas celebration on that stage. I don't want that at all. Enough with them!
harvestbasket
I didn't realize how much I missed watching Julianne and Derek dance until tonight. Yeah, it's been only a couple weeks but they were fun to watch. Definitely camping in the grassy knoll there and not much of a quickstep. Seemed like America thought they were voting for a jive routine, not quickstep. If they were going to add two more pros to balance out another Hough win, why not Jonathan and Kym instead of Lacey (who is good in latin but not ballroom) and Mark.

Carrie Ann, please do NOT encourage other male pros to wear gym shorts.
Not exactly a great pro moment. Don't encourage more OTT dancing. Especially since he tends to hit you on the head and too much in trying to express emotions.

Ty looked happy to go and the audience got it. I was pretty amused listening to Helio describe Ty. I see them as being very similar.

I hate when the judges pretty much tell the viewers who to vote for, but since I agree with them, I have no issue with it. Anna, FTW! She was superb and loved both of her dances.

Happy Shawn finally got an encore but more disturbing HMV shots.
officetemp
Please, producers, may we have both Anna and Mayo for new pros next season? Really like them both.

The Design-a-Dance "Quick Step" was pretty laughable, I thought, especially after that Quick Step by Anna & Maks. Would have liked to have seen Jonathan & Kym dancing ballroom.

Liked Raphael Saadiq. Was having serious James Brown/Ed Sullivan Show/Motown R&B & Soul flashbacks during his performance.

Ended up with the correct final three, I think. Hope the judges don't go overboard with the scoring next week, thus making themselves irrelevant. Thought it was rather ironic that Bruno told Mayo that he should have choreographed a by-the-book cha-cha, since Bruno has shown himself to be impressed by flash rather than substance, more often than not.

I agree completely on all of this, tip and fall. That Design-a-Dreadful-Dance-of-Doom was horrible. I am absolutely sick of the emphasis on the Trio of Teeth. They do my head in. GO AWAY! Take every season off from now on. Please. I, for one, will not miss any of you.

Carrie-Ann? Shut up! Gym Shorts are not a sign of creativity or personality or anything other than desperation. Stupid Carrie Ann.

LOVED seeing Kym & Maks partner Mayo & Anna respectively. Kym is a great performer and she sells everything 100%. Maks was a sight for sore eyes. I've missed him. He was a great foil for Anna. However, the judges really had it in for Mayo. Could they have been more obvious?

I was disappointed Mark and Shawn got the encore. I'm not a fan of that AT.

Nice to see Drew back but I did not miss Helio. Why on earth they'd ask him what it takes to be champion, I don't know. He won for no good reason and he's still massively annoying. It's nice to know my Helio Hate is still strong.

Ty exited with much class and I'm sure Chelsie will be back. She's made a heck of an impression. She reminds me of a mini-Kym. Versatile, creative choreography and a winning personality without a raging ego.

I hope Gilles wins so much, I might actually vote for the first time.

Vote. Vote. Vote! (Please?)

Oh do not remind me, I was so steamed when he won and I had no interest in seeing him again tonight. Also agreed about the AT, Gilles salsa shoudl have gotten the encore.

Chelsea had a great first season, I hope if they bring Dimitry back they give him a celeb that has some potential.
lovemaks
I thought the Design a Dance was just OK and agree not really a quickstep. But I thought maybe I was biased against the triplets. I really hope Anna wins for the new pro. Her dancing with Maks was very enjoyable and filled with excitement and personality. I think Maks helped in that department. I agree it was Ty's turn to leave. He did great and can be proud of his effort.
Abra
Seeing Shawn and Mark’s Argentine tango again reminded me just how much I didn’t like it. I wouldn’t say it was bad, but the things that weren’t good were so distracting to me. Shawn’s upper body posture is horrible, with badly rounded shoulders (or maybe they just appear that way because the rest of her back is so straight), she is obviously flexible but her leg action always seems stiff, she looks down way too much, and her eyes and face are just dead. She’s trying to look serious, but she just looks blank.

I had no idea Anna D was only 21. She comports herself very well. I did think both of her dances had too much going on. I mean I love the speed in the quickstep, and she and Maks both danced at a pace that made me feel like they weren’t trying to just keep up, and they were perfectly on time. But I feel like she missed opportunities to take advantage choreographically with the music phrasing. But I still love her above all others, and want her as a pro next season. She and Maks seemed to get along well, and I haven’t seen FunMaks in…seasons, really. He seemed more relaxed. It made me remember that at one point awhile ago I was starting to really like him :)

And am I mistaken, or did Mayo just not follow the rules for the tango or the cha cha as they pertain to this show? I.e. breaking hold inappropriately in the tango, not enough definitive cha cha, etc.

Brooke Burke continues to bore me. There is no force of personality to her. She always seemed sweet(?), but she never once moved me with her dancing. Just seeing her briefly tonight sucked some of my energy away.

I love Ty while he was on the show. And since he’s been eliminated tonight, I find I don’t mind him staying the extra week over Lil’ Kim. Her facial expressions and squealing had begun to bother me more than I enjoyed her dancing. It’s too bad Jewel couldn’t be there tonight.

And: Hey! What happened to Len’s master class? And the teary montage of the eliminated couples’ journey through the season? They always did that in the semi-finals. Bad move DWTS.
legaleagle44

Those rules don't apply to the pro dances, just to the celeb/pro dances.

And Anna D. is only 21? I knew she was young (every time I see her, I think I'm seeing a younger version of Anna T.), but I had no idea that she was that young. Well done, my dear!
kechara
I was expecting it and I know it was right but I'm sort of disappointed that Ty is gone. I think he was ready though.
I may have to start watching bull riding again. (I know - went through a monster truck phase too - lunacy)
I kind of know what the judges were saying to Mayo, although I disagreed with Bruno about the disco choice - I think that's kind of right for the show. He does make the oddest faces while he's dancing though. Reminded me of that scene from The Office.
sweetpd7
I was sad to see Ty go. He had so much wit and warmth, I really would have loved him to stay. But I was worried that hate or back lash would occur if it happened. I realize technically he wasn't a match for the remaining three.

Mayo did a nice job and the judges just damned him with faint praise. As for Anna, Len said he wanted her back to see more. I personally like Anna better and hope she wins. After they skewered Mayo, the viewers have totally been shown how to vote, so I think Anna is a forgone conclusion. But I still feel a bit sorry for Mayo.

I know now that Ty is gone, Gilles will get all my votes. I do like Shawn as well, but I don't want to split my votes in case that benefits Melissa. I hope she stands by her words and after DWTS goes home to Texas and stays there, never to be heard from again.
toonces464
I don't post here very often, but I did have to say that I was disappointed by the Design-A-Dance...not only to see the Houghs win it again, but by the whole frenetic mess they were trying to pass off as a Quickstep.

I've only been watching since Season 6, but I'm sick of the Houghs already...enough please!
O2Sean
How desperate are they to prop up Anna? First they insult Cheryl for Anna's benefit, and now they trash Mayo. I remember all the judge posturing more than anything about her, aside from the perma-grin. If they are this insecure about her NOW, then who knows what will happen if they actually get her on the show.

I think Ty deserved to go, although at least he left with class and good humor, as he exhibited the entire season.

I can't get that bothered about the Design a Dance. I knew the Houghs were always going to win, that's just how the show works.

I liked seeing the winners again, although I would have *much* rather seen Emmitt, Kelly, or Kristi again than smarmy Helio. Don't you love that expert commentary? "She's hot!" "He's hot, like me!" Thanks again for ruining season five.

Drew: "I can't believe Shawn is 17!" Drew, didn't you know that's an American Idol line?
MystikMinx
My only thought from the results show would have to be this:

Oh man, Maks is YUMMY.

I may have to paper my walls with posters of him shirtless, that could keep me happy for a long long time.
harvestbasket
I don't care who wins at this point. I am warming up to Tony (but Melissa can still go somewhere) and Gilles makes me smile. Although, Cheryl can kind of go somewhere, too...
LOL. Definitely agree there except the Cheryl part. Don't worry teevee. :) I think we're both hoping Mark will stop being Mark next week for Shawn's benefit....please!

although I would have *much* rather seen Emmitt, Kelly, or Kristi again than smarmy Helio.
I am guessing Apolo's busy training with the Winter Games coming up soon but I really miss seeing Emmitt. I would love to see him again on the show.
yesenializ
I had such high expectations for the design-a-dance, but ended up being underwhelmed by it. First of all, that was not a quickstep. The execution was full-out but the choreo left something to be desired, but I can't put my finger on it other than the fact that it was not a quickstep, which others have mentioned. Also, too many props and a costume change. I do love me some wonder triplets, but this was not my fave. Meh....

And I love Ty, but that was the right result. I will miss his sense of humor. Upstanging guy.

At this point I would love for Gilles to win for many reasons, (he's been another favorite though I also love Melissa) not the least of which is I think it would make Joey Lawrence's head explode. We can just play that game with Joey instead of Shannon. I'd love to see the look on his face trying to comment on a Gilles win.
AmbrosiaL

HEEEEEEE!!! Can we all do everything in our power to make that happen, pretty please?
varjakpaul
I actually preferred Mayo's Cha Cha to it, because it seems like the kind of routine you'd see a celebrity perform.

I totally agree. I think Mayo started with two routines he could teach to amateurs, and then improved them because he had Kym. Anna seemed to start from the premise of working with a professional. The results were great, but I'm worried about what she could do with a Steve Wozniak or Steve-O.

I'm glad Shawn and Mark got the reprise for their Argentine Tango. I think they deserved it, because of all of the performances last night, that was the crispest and cleanest.

However, I wish they would consolidate the Tango/Argentine Tango and Waltz/Viennese Waltz for future seasons. They're similar enough that I would like to see a couple who gets the Tango or the Waltz have the choice of doing the AT or VW as a variant. They could also give the couples the choice of the jive/lindy hop, as well, because I have a hard time telling the difference in the DWTS choreography.

Ty was definitely the worst dancer of the last four, but he had a good attitude and lots of heart. Could someone fire Samantha and hire him to be the interviewer/co-host for the show?
O2Sean

I've given up on her going anywhere.

Is it me or was the music worse than ever tonight? Horrific on so many levels. Are they gutting people back there? That Beyonce song was abdominal pain recorded live on tape, wasn't it?
Anna seemed to start from the premise of working with a professional. The results were great, but I'm worried about what she could do with a Steve Wozniak or Steve-O.

I know. I hope we're not going to have another "let's dance around that schlub so America can see how awesome I am" pro.
sweetpd7

Word. My son just loved Helio and really rooted for him his season. At the time he seemed like a gentleman and nice guy. I couldn't get over Julianne dancing around him as he posed, though. He really seems kind of slimy now and his tax problems cut into the nice guy image. The reason he made those silly comments tonight is that after a season of DWTS and winning, he still knows nothing about ballroom dancing. That is pretty pathetic.
Pug Mom
Apologies if this is something that I should be able to find easily, but can someone provide me translations for HMV and OTT? I tried searching for them, but the search function here doesn't let you search on terms that are less than four characters.

Thanks.
AmbrosiaL
HMV and OTT?

HMV = Here's My Vagina

and OTT + Over The Top
sgupta4
Phew! Gilles made it to the finals.
mupt90
Happy trails, Ty! What a great guy, just sweet and earnest and charming. And he really brought the funny this season. It was time for him to go, but I'll miss my cowboy.

Felt bad for Mayo in the pro competition. He did a nice job and I didn't think CA was being fair in speculating that he was one note, he showed versatility with his initial dance with Anna and then followed it up with that awesome jive. That said, I really like Anna. Her quickstep was screaming fast. It's nice to see what these dances look like when performed by two pros. Wow! She and Maks really flew. (Mayo and Kym were great to watch also.)

I thought the "Design-A-Dance" fiasco was a hot mess. Liked the costume design by the young lady from NY and that's about it. Quickstep? I didn't see a quickstep. It was especially obvious after watching Anna and Maks burn up the floor with their quickstep. Yikes.

Final three as expected. Hoping for Gilles for the win, Melissa would be an acceptable option as well. Shawn, meh... though my 10 year old son is cheering for her.
yesenializ
HMV = Here's my vagina. Could be more easily understood if one had read the SYTYCD Season 1 thread, wherein a contestant did so many flashing arabesques they became her signature move. I got tired of it pretty quickly. I don't know if it's been used in any other thread, but now I think it's synonymous with underwear-flashing moves.
O2Sean
Word. My son just loved Helio and really rooted for him his season. At the time he seemed like a gentleman and nice guy.

I thought he was a nice guy, and a potentially good dancer, early in his season. Then it became all about the pissiness from him and Julianne when the judges criticized him, and the non-dancing, and the little fit he had when the judges didn't like his finale jive enough, on and on.

To be fair to Helio, I'll say that if I liked him more I probably wouldn't have been as annoyed by his comments tonight.

I hope Chelsie will come back next season, she was much better than I'd imagined, and she and Ty were such a needed breath of fresh air.
harvestbasket
I think it would make Joey Lawrence's head explode. We can just play that game with Joey instead of Shannon. I'd love to see the look on his face trying to comment on a Gilles win.
I want to see this happen.

I wonder if the show would consider adding Mayo (or any of the other competing pros) for next season. Though Fabian was in the audience last night. Why not just add him.

I don't know if it's been used in any other thread,
Figure skating as well. Sasha Cohen = HMV.

Len seems to really like Chelsie as well. I wish she was in the design a dance since it seemed to be one big party of the younger pros. Why not just add Dmitry in there too.
portabella
Wooohooo! Glad they announced Gilles & Cheryl first.

Ty, you're a sweetie. Chelsie - great job.

Damn, took them long enough to get down to business, though. Melissa & Tony were nervous.

Next week will be exciting. :)
spanana
I would like to see Gilles or Melissa win, though I'm onboard with Gilles winning just so we can see Joey Lawrence's head explode train.
myoptimisim
I did not enjoy the Design A Dance. I thought the routine itself was silly and OTT. I wanted to see a regular, fun, fast Quickstep with a pair of dancers not some Broadway routine with the idea of Quickstep infused. I do like all the pros but The routine was lukewarm for me.

I knew Ty wasn't going to make it and I am glad for him and Chelsie. They held on for a long time and I know they were both getting tired and realized that the Final Three would be a huge challenge. I am going to miss their humor and their interactions though. They are both classy, witty and talented in ballroom and bullriding respectively. I hope that Chelsie is asked back because she makes this show worth watching. I don't really care who wins this 'competition' for the next new pro as long a Chelsie and Dmitry are asked back next year.
basketweaver
I keep reading about Joey Lawrence dissing Gilles, but I can't find anywhere what he said and when. Can anyone please fill in the blanks?
BradyB66
Please excuse my ignorance, but why would a Gilles win make Joey Lawrence's head explode?

ETA: I guess basketweaver just answered my question. Didn't know Joey had been trash talking Gilles.
harvestbasket
Joey Lawrence recaps and comments on the show for Yahoo. There are links in the media thread.
O2Sean
Joey Lawrence has said Gilles is smarmy, IIRC, among other comments.

Cheryl dated Joey's brother Matthew for a year or two. Ever since their split, Joey has gone on some D-list reality comment program trashing her and her partners.
ToothbrushFence

I remember all the judge posturing more than anything about her, aside from the perma-grin. If they are this insecure about her NOW, then who knows what will happen if they actually get her on the show.

YMMV, but I don't think the judges are 'insecure' about Anna. My guess is they - like I - fee that Anna is by the far the best of the pro contestants and want her back next season. Mayo was the best of the rest, but I think he could get old quickly; he seems gimmicky and annoying.

Also, I'm not understanding the concerns about Anna's designing a pro dance tonight -- that what she was supposed to do, not treat Maks like he was Woz and design an elementary dance. IMO, she showed her teaching ability with her outstanding work with Maurice last week. Whether she or Mayo wins, I'm just relieved that annoying Afton is gone.
basketweaver
Thanks, I just went back and read in the Media thread and then watched a few of the Yahoo clips that were linked. That was astounding. The way he mocked Gilles was horrible...as it would be for any ex-contestant to say about another. What a vile little man Joey Lawrence is. I never knew that.
O2Sean
I guess I didn't think the work with Maurice was that great. He looked enthusiastic but the performance itself was not memorable to me. He seemed about the same to me as he was last season, and that was after almost a full season being taught the basics by his partner.

I would also get tired of Mayo but there was no need for the judges to behave as if he was one-dimensional and Anna was the moon and stars, or for their comments last week.

It all feels heavy for me, and I don't see all that hype reflected in her dancing or choreography.

She's much better than Afton, and most of the others, but they aren't doing her any favors.
