Haters to the left (:-P) because I loved Shawn, tonight. Her Quickstep was definitely worth a 29 or 30 but damn Mark! Way to mess that up! Her Paso was grood, too. Hope she goes through.
I love LK but am glad she didn't get a 30 for that Salsa. Watching it I also felt she lacked a bit of control and was flailing in some parts. Was afraid the judges would overscore it.
Melissa getting a 30 and having a first place comeback! Shocking! Not! Wish she didn't bug me so much because she seems like a sweet celeb for the show and I did love her samba. The choreography was great. A+, Tony.
Going to use all my votes on Shawn, now.

Loved the pro dances, my favorite part of the season is seeing the pros. I really wish that each show had an exhibition by the pros showing how things should look. I have to say though that Kym stood out in the Latin dance and not in a good way.

MARK! Shawn could have received a perfect 30 on that quickstep if it weren't for you!! Argh! It was a good dance, but I can't believe he would break the rules this far into the competition. But at least they were called out for it. Re: the paso, I couldn't even watch all of it because the music was terrible.
"Angel" is one of my favorite songs but only when Sarah Mclachlan is singing it. The band was lacking all the emotion that makes that song great, IMO. Plus, it's just not the same when you play Angel with a full range of instruments -- I love how the original really only uses the piano for the most part.
I literally started cracking up during Ty's solo. That was...erm...*scratches head*... yeah....
Oh Samantha, don't you know that 'flawless' is pretty meaningless when it comes from Carrie Ann's mouth?
ETA: Anyway, so Ty ends up with a 46 and Lil Kim has a 52. I think he actually has a decent change of making up the difference with the fan votes. We shall see. I don't know if I want him to outlast her though -- I used to think so, but that rumba was just ridiculous.

What is this? Five plus minutes of pro dances without three minutes devoted to glory shot of a special musical guest. If they keep this up people may actually think this is a dancing show. Great to see all my favorites (and Lacey). Also, I see that Dmitry lost the button on is shirt again. Let's hope he shall never find it.
None of the returning celebs are really a surprise; Cody and Maurice have both been in the ballroom this season and Lisa Rinna is always around. Nice to see that they choose good but not great celebs. Little surprised to see Genya gone, thought that being Alec's brother would get him through one more round. I really hope Anna D. wins; she is awesome.
I know it's been said before but Tony and Melissa look creepy alike. Seriously they could be twins. And I've always kind of been meh on Tony as a pro but his just overwhelming excitement is really endearing.

Based on tonight, I want Melissa, Gilles and Shawn in the F3. Lil Kim or Ty could go tomorrow night and I'd be fine. I know it should be Ty, but I thought Lil Kim was all kinds of off tonight.
As for the rest of them, they all at least had one really strong dance. Mark is an idiot IMO for that first routine. He basically cost Shawn her perfect 30 in the quickstep. Gilles, loved the foxtrot and was underwhelmed by the rhumba. Not only do I think he was trying too hard in the rhumba, but I think he messed up somewhere in there. Melissa, liked the samba and was bored by her ballroom number.

Tonight's singing was the worst this season. Free Fallin, a dumb selection for the rumba anyhow, was awful. But When I Need You was worse! And Sexual Healing was pretty bad....
Melissa's costume for her ballroom dance was pretty odd, too, although I guess it made sense with the song "Angel."
Oh, the dancing. Loved Melissa's samba, but not overwhelmed by any of the others. Gilles' rumba left me cold, which is odd since so many of his dances this season have been quite hot. (I thought his ballroom dance tonight was hotter than the Latin dance!)
And, hey if Ty has to leave (and I think he does), at least he does on a sweet note: The solo for Jewel was cute and appropriately intimate without being crass.
Bruno, watch your tongue: That lady and the tramp crack was thoughtless (and some might say racist). Just think a half second before you speak, OK?

When Tom said "Will Melissa get a perfect score to take the top of the leader board?", I was like "Duh". I mean, it was very good, but I suspect that she would have gotten a 30 even if it wasn't.
I kind of want Ty to get through to next week even though he's by far the weakest dancer left.

Loved, loved, loved seeing the pro dancers. I didn't recognize Lacey at first - she looks lovely with the lighter brown hair. Jonathan and Anna are always such a pleasure to watch.
I don't like the two dances/week. I'd rather see one great dance from each celebrity instead of two mediocre ones, and everyone was pretty mediocre tonight.

I like the format of adding the two professional dances, but I feel that they could have used this on the results show. Got to see Dimitry and Lacey again so YAY!!
Onto the dances, I found tonight quite underwhelming.
Gilles/Cheryl, I am getting a bit tired of selling the sex, even though they did get a song along those lines for the foxtrot, but I wanted more Fred Astaire and got the Foxtrot at a pickup bar. I agreed with Carrie Ann about the rhumba, it was kinda odd and I think he fell at the end. Was dissappointed in it also.
Melissa/Tony: I am getting tired of the "leg up in the air" and while I liked their Samba, it wasn't 30 worthy. Felt like I have seen the waltz before also. I think Melissa's injury showed in her dances tonight, even though I agree she did a good job.
Shawn/Mark: At one point in the Quickstep I swore Mark was moving twice as fast as Shawn, but I will give it the best dance of the night for me. Their paso was technically perfect but I found it BORING!!. Shawn has the technique but she just doesn't have the stage presence at all. I think she peaked with her performace art at the cha-cha.
Lil Kim/Derek: Dissappointed me tonight, I defiantely saw the bobbles in the waltz and if I didn't know better I swore Kim looked "down" during the interview segments or maybe she was tired. Also the salsa needed more control as they judges said. She is still my favorite constestant left and I hope she makes it through. That being said I think she is a goner.
Ty/Chelsea: He looked scared in the Tango and that rhumba had me cracking up at the end, loved is solo as bad as it was. His rhumba was exactly what I expected it to be.
I think the judges made it very clear tonight who they wanted in the semi-finals.

I know! I was so angry. Why does Mark try to test my love for him? But I'm glad they were called on it, unlike Team Dim with their jive.
What was up with that paso music? Did the singer have a sore throat? Was her mic turned down low? I'm still puzzling that one out.
Melissa looked like Princess Jasmine in her samba hairdo. It's a good look for her. What was she concerned about at the end of her dance, though? I love how ecstatic Tony was at their scores.

May 4, 2009 @ 9:11 pm
Mark, Mark, Mark, thanks to you Shawn ended up with a lower score. How hard is it to actually obey the rules of the dance? I dunno, that bugged me.
I so totally called Melissa's wardrobe malfunction and noticed about half way that I was right. I would have been so embarrassed and probably would have tried to fix it while dancing or something in case it got even more noticeable. I was shocked, shocked I'm telling you, to see her great comeback. No one saw that one coming.
Ty's solo was cute, it was adorable that he did that in front of Jewel. He's the one to go though, because he's the weak link and that makes me sad because I really like the guy.
Also loved Gilles looking at his wife after finishing rolling around on the floor with Cheryl. Made me LOL. They were very good and should have gotten a 30 for the first dance imo. Oh and what the hell was up with that first song?
I can barely even remember what Lil's dances looked like, which is not a good thing.

I've decided what bothers me about Lil Kim's dancing. In the ballroom dances she always looks really tentative. I'm always on the verge of thinking she forgot her steps. But then in the latin she looks too wild. Like the judges were saying, she loses some control and either way it ends up coming off as sloppy.
Not at all surprised that Maurice and Cody are the other two dancers. Makes sense. Neither are great, but they aren't total trainwrecks. Plus they are recent enough that they probably aren't too scared to get back on that dance floor.

I don't believe for one second that Mark cost Shawn a perfect 30. That's total bullshit. I think he was genius for "breaking the rules", because my favorite parts of that quickstep (a dance I generally don't like) were the out of hold parts. I loved them. The crowd loved it as well, and if they had stayed in hold - the dance would have been totally different. Mark might not have done it on purpose, but I think at the end of the day it paid off, because it was way more entertaining than a usual quickstep. At least to me.
All my votes went to Shawn & Mark.

Wow...Gilles & Cheryl's rhumba was the biggest let-down ever. I was joking with Binky's BF that we'd have to change the channel lest G & C melt our tv set. And then...*that* happened. Gilles was trying WAAAAAAY too hard, the music was too "fast" or something, and WHAT was with the moonwalk at the beginning?
I loved Shawn tonight, both numbers, but could've slapped Mark for that stupid move. (Yes, it added to the perfomance, but not so much that it couldn't have been left out)
And finally - I missed the last few moments, can someone tell me what Carrie Ann said to Melissa? I came back just as Melissa was squealing and going up to hug her.

Oh Len "spotted dick and custard." Ewww.
Although Ty didn't shine like some of the celebs, I was surprised that he can move his hips. That should have maybe earned him a point or two higher in the rumba. But Ty isn't exactly a rumba kind of guy.
The costuming is doing Melissa no favors with that hair piece. Cheryl had hair extensions that looked awful a few weeks ago. We know these women don't have long hair. Melissa did do an excellent job in her dances, it pains me to admit. However, in her tiny little Latin number, I saw no evidence of a patch or bandaid of any kind in the rib area. Did it heal that quickly?
I really enjoyed the Paso Doble that Shawn did. I thought she really looked serious and I'm sure the whole dance was hard for a 17 year old to pull off.
Gilles is no longer the chosen one. His scores are dipping as Melissa's are rising. I enjoy Gilles' dances and hoped he'd score higher. I must say that the rumba with Gilles and Cheryl rolling around was too much, I agreed with the judges about that.
Little Kim sure can sizzle and do wonderful Latin. Her occasional misteps are probably going to keep her from the last 3.
Since when did they start having professional dancers during the performance night? I don't remember this from before, but my memory could be better.

"Angel" is a horrible song for this show. All I could think of was the sad puppy commercial, not a romantic VW. Horrible music selection.
The pro dance was awesome. I love seeing Jonathan and Anna, but Louis and Lacey were on fire.
I kind of want Ty to get through to next week even though he's by far the weakest dancer left.
Me too. I can't stand Derek. But I have to say, the audience yelling during LK's post-salsa critique was hilariously strange.
I would have said Giles was a lock to win, but Melissa's Samba was all kinds of awesome, as were both of Shawn and Mark's dances (although I could have slapped him with the overmugging during the Quickstep. How grating was that?)

May 4, 2009 @ 9:17 pm
I wonder if Mark choreographed the quickstep that he did because he saw that it paid off for Lil Kim and Derek. In that case, I suppose it seems less stupid, although I still wanted to sort of slap him. Mark, at this point, you should realize that the judges have their darlings and that just because they got away with it, doesn't mean you will!

Yeah I caught that too during the number. Last week was the hint of the bum in low rise jeans and this week its the boob. Poor Melissa...what gonna happen next week.
You know the more I think about tonight, the more dissappointed I am in how underwhelming I found it, YMMV of course.

I actually thought Gilles fell at the end of their rhumba. Whatever happened, I'm not sure the end of that routine was supposed to look the way it came off. It seemed like they just sort of went with it because what else can you do. But I agree it was underwhelming. I really think Gilles is better when he's not trying so hard, hence I thought his foxtrot was one of the best of the night.
His scores really aren't dipping though. It's just that everyone else is getting scored about the same. He got a 29 in the first round which was the highest score in the first round and a 27 in the Latin. So he wound up tied with Shawn and one point behind Melissa.

What was she [Melissa] concerned about at the end of her dance, though?
Augurey, she kept holding her chest, so I'm guessing wardrobe malfunction. The director has been pretty good about keeping those off of our screens, because I think Lil' Kim had one earlier this season that we didn't see.
EDIT: Well, that's been answered ten-fold.

I am really loving this season. What? Pro Dances on a Monday night? You don't say! Loooved that they added that.
Really liked Melissa tonight and thought she looked beautiful. Loved Ty but unfortunately I don't think he'll be able to outlast any of the other four. I agreed with the judges (gasp!) about the Kim's erratic Salsa. Loved Gilles also. Gosh, this season is really tough to root for any one particular couple--I like them all.

Ah, thanks all. I thought she had a wardrobe malfunction, but I turned around for a second and wasn't sure.
Since when did they start having professional dancers during the performance night? I don't remember this from before, but my memory could be better.
I think in the early seasons, there would be a pre-taped clip of two pros demonstrating the upcoming dance. Nothing with Anna Trebunskaya could ever be called filler, IMO, but the pro dances and the ridiculous segment with the judges seemed more like results-show fare.
I felt bad for Alec's brother. They didn't have to show him getting rejected.
Wonder of all wonders the singers didn't screw up "Friend Like Me" and "Sexual Healing"! It's still not the same without Robin Williams and Marvin Gaye singing, respectively.
Oh, Ty. That solo. It was endearing, but I still can't get over my second hand embarrassment.

but damn Mark! Way to mess that up! Her Paso was grood, too. Hope she goes through.
No kidding. Just because CA let that "lift" (I understand it was excusable) go in the waltz does not mean you can break hold, multiple times, in that quickstep. Talk about a brain fart. It also did not help, as bluvelvet pointed out, that he appeared to dance twice as fast as her. She was doing a fantastic job and that could have been the best dance of the night if Mark reigned it in. Her paso was good. But Mark, keep your tongue in your mouth. What's with the mugging tonight (off and on the dance floor)? Did Mark steal Derek's red bull? It was annoying.
I love LK but am glad she didn't get a 30 for that Salsa. Watching it I also felt she lacked a bit of control and was flailing in some parts. Was afraid the judges would overscore it.
She was definitely off tonight. She always had bobbles in previous weeks, but I felt she was out of control at parts in her solo. I thought in hold she was fine. She may go tomorrow, but in the end, I don't think she should be in the final 3. She seems off, energy wise, back stage as well. Both Ty and LK should be proud of themselves. Tonight confirmed the final 3 is the final 3 everyone predicted since week 1 and it would be the correct final 3 IMO.
Melissa getting a 30 and having a first place comeback! Shocking! Not!
*snort* Though I did enjoy Melissa's dance. Gilles is my favorite celeb and Cheryl's tied as my favorite pro, but gosh darn it, I want Tony to win. I find myself rooting for Melissa because of Tony and I have been indifferent to Tony in past seasons.
Samantha, you suck. "You brang it" to Lil Kim. What she says is ridiculous, but I find it annoying that she only speaks in that manner when speaking to Lil Kim.

I love Cheryl but WTF to her rumba choreo. Less is more guys! Their rumba sucked hard. The foxtrot was good but I don't think people will remember it. Shawn was AMAZING tonight. They deserved all perfect scores tonight. Melissa's celebrity quote was adorable and too funny. Her first dance was beautiful the second dance was so much fun. I really liked Ty's A Tango but the rumba was not good. The end was cute though. Lil Kim underwhelmed me on both dances which is wierd becuase I thought for sure I would love her latin round. Melissa and Shawn are so the final 2. They have it in the bag.

I totally missed that because I was so transfixed by the absence of her tramp stamp. Where did it go? It's so huge they usually need fabric to cover it but both costumes revealed no tramp stamp.
Lacey is emerging as my second favorite pro. She was searing HOT tonight! The girl is really coming into her own. Not the rumba I expected, but I'm still aboard the Gilles train.

Those patches need to be left on for a bit and can be removed when the pain has diminished. It's uncomforatble to keep them on longer than necessary, at least for me, because they're so sticky.
I loved Melissa's samba, it was fun. I didn't like her VW that much, though.
I didn't like either one of Gille's dances, I couldn't keep Artem and Ashly's dance on SYTYCD out of my head when I heard the song and C/G foxtrot doesn't stand up to that.
Lil Kim seemed to completely mess up a section in the salsa when she and Derek were dancing together, anyone else notice that or was I imagining things?
Ty, poor Ty, hopefully his solo works out for him the way he wants it to.

I am so in love with tonight’s pro dances. And I am totally going to develop a girl crush on Lacey if she keeps up with her fabulousness – I actually watched her over my beloved Dmitry more than once tonight. Louis’s choreo. Dmitry and Kym. Anna and Jonathan!! Bravo.
Shawn’s quickstep would not have deserved a 30 even if Mark had followed the rules. Her upper body posture was horrible and she’s back to gymnast arms. She also has never pulled off the performance aspect of any dance for me except the cha cha. I did delight in the dance anyway, as it was danced to my favorite song from Aladdin :) The paso didn’t impress me either, and I totally saw rehashed moves from Mark’s pasos with Sabrina and Kristi. Although I very much appreciate that he choreographs to both the music and the lyrics.
I thought Melissa looked in pain in her Viennese waltz, I was surprised at her movement in the samba.
Tonight’s WTF moments: the song choices for both rumbas. And Gilles doing a forward moonwalk in his solo – I didn’t even know that was possible.
Derek also was rehashing old choreography, except he just went back to his VW with Lil Kim instead of back to another season. I still love to watch his dancing, but I seem to have waned on my delight at Kim’s personality. And the faces she makes will never stop, so…eh.

I think the most vociferous yelling was coming from Lil Kim's personal entourage.
Louis did a great job with the pro dance. I hated Lacey last season, and now when she shows up, I smile and think "hey, there's Lacey!"
The tempos for both rhumbas were too fast. Also, I think that the guys got shafted by having to do a solo in their rhumbas. Admittedly, Ty was never going to nail that one, but the solo part hurt Gilles more than his female counterparts. Whose brilliant idea was it to have solos in the quarterfinals, anyway?

I love the pro exhibitions too. I have to laugh though because Dimitry's always in an unbuttoned shirt for the latin dances. As I understand it he started that on SYTYCD? He's got a great chest but that always makes me giggle.
My votes were split between Melissa and Ty tonight because I just love them. I know Ty's not the best and he should probably go home tomorrow but he's still so much fun. And I've been a fan of Melissa since her Cheerleader days. There's also probably a bit of voting against Mark Derek and Cheryl going on because I want someone else to get a chance to win on the pro side.
It's unfortunate because Gilles really is a great dancer. Maybe it's the Cheryl bias but I just don't feel much when he dances. Never have.

Just what I predicted from Gilles and Cheryl's rumba: self-indulgent. For once, CA described it perfectly. The solo was weird, I hate the rolling over part, and his sheer shirt was awful. I wonder if Mark choreographed the quickstep that he did because he saw that it paid off for Lil Kim and Derek.
It is only the second time he has made it the two dance round maybe it is just a bad decision from inexperience or just a brain fart. He is partnered with Shawn, he does not need to do that with her. She's already popular.
spanana, I agree with your assessment with Lil Kim. With latin dances, she's a bit wild and with ballroom, she is tentative.
Ty reminded me of Kenny Mayne in that rumba. I hope he joins dancecenter for future seasons. I find him hilarious.
I am not sure what happened with Gilles at the end of the rumba. I did wish Cheryl did reign it in a bit, but I thought the foxtrot was terrific.

I know Ty should probably go home tonite but I dont care, I want him to stay. The rhumba wasnt the worst Ive seen (and he moved his hips a little). I loved how he did his solo for Jewel. Of all the non-dancers they've had on the show, I think he has improved the most. And I just FLOVE him. But it was clear tonight that the judges want him to go home. I dont think it was an accident that he and Gilles had the same dance. Comparisons are unavoidable.
Speaking of which, Gilles was a bit off his game tonight but I still want him to win.
Lil Kim or Melissa can go home tomorrow for all I care. They are good dancers, but I am just not feeling 'em. Shawn can stay.
