With Wolverine And The X-Men on their schedule, NickToons has upped the ante with another Marvel property. Iron Man: Armored Adventures has Tony Stark as Iron Man, saving lives and fighting familiar foes as Obidiah Stane and The Mandarin. The twist? Tony's just a kid.
Yeah, this is a bit of a risk to have a Tony without a single hair on his face, especially since "Teen Tony" was a big bust in the mid-90s and ignored by the fans. Also, the computer animation might be a turn-off for those who couldn't take MTV's Spider-Man. But I think it's working after two episodes. Okay, so Pepper Potts is an unholy mix of Chloe Sullivan (Smallville), Indi (Spider-Man) and a case of Red Bull, but we have the Tony/Rhodey friendship, and Mandarin emerges as something much more than a veiled "Ten Rings" reference for a terrorist group. I'm not an Iron Man devotee, but I do know that canon villains will be stopping by, like Whiplash (thankfully not in his Busiek-era bondage gear). For the designated age group, I think the show has potential.
What do you guys think so far? It'll be running on NickToons about ten thousand times this weekend, so you can catch it then.

I have to admit, I liked it. The animation is a bit jarring but once I got used to it, I liked the teenage Tony, the womanizing one was adorable in the movies, but this one is pretty interesting, he's a fish out of water geek and despite being rich and brilliant, he's socially stunted. I like him.
Pepper's a bit of a cliche, but it's been only two episodes.
And Gene Khan looks like an amazing villain. A anti-Tony, especially if he's a genius too.
Two thumbs up.

Oh, so I guess we're only an episode or two ahead of you on this one, then... :)
So far, Teletoon aired the first two episodes back-to-back two weeks ago, and the third episode last weekend (Gene Kahn transfers to Tony's school, then he, Tony, and Pepper get kidnapped by The Unicorn and Killer Shrike). The next one's supposed to air Sunday morning.

I did have a problem with the first episode. Did anybody else roll thier eyes at the show ripping off Spider-Man 2, as Tony had to stop the train from running off the end of the track and onto unsuspecting traffic?

I don't much mind "Small Iron", but I find cell shading sort of ugly looking. I'd rather that have died out with MTV Spider-Man and Skyland.
I hope Rodie is going to be War Machine at some point this season.
p.s. I laughed out loud at...
He-ey, new guy. I'm just gonna call you "The Kahn". Is that cool? "Kahn." KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN!!

I missed the show so I hope someone can fill me in. Does Tony just invent the suit for shits and giggles or is there some form of "captured in a war zone" origin?
Lantern7
Apr 25, 2009 @ 11:06 pm
He invented one of the arms first for s&g to impress his father, and it saved his life after the big crash. Six months later, he busted out the suit to get information on Stane's dealings. No war zone this time around.

It's official: I hate Pepper Potts. It's not fair to directly compare her to Gwyneth Paltrow's version, but this Pepper just doesn't shut. The fuck. Up. EVER. Can't Rhodey spear her with the Iron Man like he accidentally did to Tony?
On the bright side, we have Gene Khan, in and out of his Mandarin guise. He doesn't come off as too big a tool. He and Tony will probably be amicable towards one another at the very least . . . at least until the other shoe drops. It is a shame, however, that he's stuck next to Happy Hogan in class. Poor bastard. "KHAAAAAAAAAAAANNNN!!!!"

Hate...hate...HATE Pepper.
Love Gene Khan, he's fascinating and a great villain, I like it.
Even Tony rocks quite a bit. And I'm starting to like the animation.

I've only seen the first episode OnDemand.
I hate the animation. I'm not even a big comic reader and Teen!Tony pisses me off to no end, and yet, I think I enjoyed it.
Liked it enough to catch more episodes, anyway.

Heaven help us, Pepper is part of the gang now. This comes after her father gets beaten half to death by Whiplash, and she still decides to investigate. She's just too damn hyper and spunky, to the point where you keep hoping Tony or Rhodey would just haul off and smack her.
Yadda yadda yadda, introduction of Mr. Fix, who's based on Fixer from Marvel continuity proper, and Tony builds another suit of armor. And next week's a doubleheader featuring Crimson Dynamo and Living Laser.

They actually showed the Crimson Dynamo episode in Canada last week. It was an... interesting take on the character, involving Project Pegasus. The character design was pretty unique, too.
I guess this means that the Living Laser is in tomorrow's episode, then. Sweet. I've actually been waiting for him to turn up. :)

Seriously, can't we have more Gene Khan? He's the most interesting character and he'd make a cool addition to the gang, working with them, but secretly against them.
Pepper is sorta boring and annoying, replace her!

May 23, 2009 @ 12:09 am
Pepper boring? No. Annoying, shrill and somewhat obnoxious? Yeppers. "CLAY! AND! BAKINGSODA!!!!" Brrrrrrrrrrr.
Nice pair of episodes this week, with Tony finally taking school seriously after seeing a hologram of Howard-Wan Starknobi. Also funny how Tony never read Hamlet before, and Gene giving him shit for it. Interesting pair of adversaries with Crimson Dynamo and Living Laser. It's a good thing there's never been a definitive IM cartoon before; all of the bad guys seem fresh to a new audience.

I'm watching in Australia, and I believe we're actually ahead, so I'm not sure what I can and can't talk about, but I have to say I love this show.
I think it's fantastic. And Pepper doesn't bother me at all. I kind of love her.
But Gene KHAN! is my favourite. He's awesome as the Mandarin.
Though I'm not sure I love the idea of the Mandarin only having five rings. And they've made them all fairly different. No black light ring! No mento-intensifier ring! But still pretty cool and kick-ass!

I was on the fence about this show at first, but it's starting to win me over. The episode Teletoon just aired was actually pretty good. A.I.M.! The Controller! Whitney Fro..*ahem* Stane kicking butt! And a M.O.D.O.K. cameo!
My favourite bit, though, was the Muzak that played while the armor was rebooting. :)

I liked "Field Trip," in the sense that Pepper's ability to annoy actually came in handy. What's worse than Pepper overreacting? Pepper overreacting on purpose. Also, she was right about how the plan to get Tony's armor sucked eggs, given that they ultimately needed help from Gene, Happy, and Stane's deus ex macchina/non-canon daughter to make it work.

Just watched the Canadian broadcast. I have to say, of all the stories they could've picked for their first out-and-out adaptation, I never would've figured they'd go with "Mask in the Iron Man". Decent enough episode, though.

Toon Zone says we'll be getting two new episodes later this month, on the 24th and 31st:
http://www.toonzone.net/schedule/index.php...mp;x=11&y=7Dunno if we'll continue to get new episodes through August, but Nicktoons has shown time and again that they know how to kill momentum.

Just want to make sure people are watching the show. Three new episodes have aired, and I believe two more are slated for next week.
Any thoughts on Tony going Dark Side on Stane and Crimson Dynamo? I can sympathize after the brutal beating and humiliation suffered, but the Hulkbuster Armor (or "Smackdown Armor" . . . thank you, Pepper) and the Technovore virus may have been overkill. And now Technvore + nanotech = Tony's very own Venom. At least that's how I read it.
In other news: Pepper Potts? Still annoying. She's fiercely dedicated, and there aren't many girls that would conduct a black-ops mission in a mascot suit, but she's still overzealous as hell. I might like her without condition if the writers toned her down a little bit . . . unlike the time Madame Masque posed as Iron Man, and Pepper almost cuffed Tony.

Anybody still watching? We had the "Mask In The Iron Man" story adapted into cartoon form in one convenient chapter, and the rise of the Black Panther, who probably looks way better here than in his BET series. Also, Pepper doesn't STFU, but that's to be expected, right? And next week: another Nick Fury in a Marvel animated series!

Am I the only one still watching? The last episode with Madam Masque and Ghost did the impossible: it made Pepper Potts look sane and normal.

I'm still watching, but I'm not sure why. :-) I'm not into the Marvel genre usually, but have been watching both this and the Wolverine series on Nicktoons.
It was nice to see Pepper toned down a bit. One thing that I am finding hard to swallow however, is the continued nagging from Rhodey and Pepper. Tony has explained several times that he is trying to keep them safe and almost everytime they ARE included, they are in grave danger. I suppose they want to protect their friend, but I'd think they would see his reasoning by now. The characters aren't getting much development that I can see, so I'm finding their motivation hard to understand.
I'm also surprised that they have been able to keep Rhodey's mom in the dark as much as they have. But I suppose accepting that is part of the genre as well.

Checking in to see if anybody has caught recent episodes, including the one shown tonight with Living Laser and MODOC: Mobile Organism Designed Only for Conquering. For those new to Marvel stuff, that means a giant head in a hovering chair with extreme mental capability, including the mojo to determine that Tony Stark is Iron Man.
Check out the wiki . . . definitely one of Jack Kirby's wilder designs.
Not much has stuck with me in the past few weeks, other than Pepper getting tossed off the Hellicarrier. Pity SHIELD didn't do it when it was a mile up.

I find the IM:AA theme to be a let down full stop. I mean the 90's version had a good one... You remember, the one they used during the scenes of Tony building the MkI armour. This modern Techno Pop version is as big an abomination as Jessica Simpson releasing a cover of the AC/DC classic Back In Black.
What they need is to change it so that it's more like Anastascia and Shakira collaborating on the track... Now that would rock.

Bumping this up for "Don't Worry Be Happy," where Happy Friggin' Hogan winds up in the armor, and hilarity ensues. Amazingly, he's actually good with the suit, given he's a total meathead.
