Couples perform the rumba or the jive.
spanana
I didn't really love anything tonight. I don't know. Melissa did a good job with the rhumba. I knew the jive would probably be Gilles worst dance to date (and it was).

Only thing I do know is I can't stand even looking at Chuck/Julianne anymore. They are just so cutesy. I also feel like Julianne was trying way too hard with that rhumba to prove that they have chemistry.
herkylover
All I want to know is who peed in Len's cheerio's this morning?
tip and fall
I really didn't get the judges raving over Lil Kim. Yeah, the music was great, but I agreed with Len. In my uneducated opinion, it was too theatrical, it didn't seem like as much of a jive to me, just comparing it to other jives throughout the show. The choreography was good otherwise, but there was too much...'acting'? Well, not acting, but like they spent too much time trying to tell a story. I thought Chelsie and Ty had more jive choreography (I'm just gonna forget that atrocious beginning, lol). Plus, Kim's footwork was really weak. At some points it was like she was barely lifting her feet. I can't believe that CAI and Bruno were freaking out over this jive, but went ahead and criticized Gilles the way they did. I'm not sure that Gilles deserved a 10 for that, but if Lil Kim got two...

I heart Ty even more after that confessional footage (how's that for being gracious in the face of criticism?). However, the jive was kinda...um...well...*trails off wordlessly* It picked up in the middle, but Chelsie was so totally dancing around him in the beginning and he looked so hesitant and tentative!

Shawn looked decent for the second week in a row, imagine that. But Mark -- er, the sheer shimmery shirt ain't working. At all. As for the rumba, I thought she was overall too sharp in places (not sure if that was the choreography or her execution of it). If she had done the jive, I could see her getting 10s. Oh well. At least this means she's getting the more difficult dances out of the way.

I could have done without Steve-O and Lacey's rehearsal footage, as I haven't found fart jokes funny since middle school. But he made up for it with that adorable pooch of his. But wow, a 7, 4, and 5? Eesh. Len, you curmudgeon! But Carrie Ann thinks that Shawn's dance is only 1 point higher than Steve-O's? Give me a break.

Chuck, stop boo-hooing about Julianne being a big meanie. She isn't even that bad! This guy would have dissolved into a puddle already if he had Cheryl as a teacher. That said, his rumba was better than I was expecting, they weren't as devoid of chemistry as I'd expected. I thought the 7 from a Len was a slight underscore, straight 8s would've been good. But what was up with their outfits? The all-black ensemble did not suit the music or choreography.
Fellaway
I love Len. I really, really do. Watching Lil' Kim and Derek, I knew Bruno and Carrie Ann would go crazy for 'em, but me, I kept thinking "Isn't this the jive? Where are all the kicks and flicks?" There were no kicks and flicks! Also, Kim's footwork seemed far less intricate than Derek's, off time with him, and very, very tentative. Kudos to Len, at least, for sticking to the integrity of the dance they were supposed to be doing in his score. I don't ever want to hear again that "We just wanted to take a risk, be entertaining, do it for the audience and fans, yadda yadda" absolute crap that arrogantly assumes they can't do any of those things while still doing the actual dance assigned.

New drinking game: Everyone takes a swig everytime Shawn, or anyone, mentions she's "only 17!"

Did Lil' Kim have a bit of a wardrobe malfunction there at the judging table?

And, on the subject of wardrobe, someone needs to remind Lacey to put on her clothes before she goes onstage next time.

Oh, Steve-O. I really expected to hate you coming into this season, but you continue to beat those expectations down. Could you be any sweeter than you were tonight with Boogie? I also found his reluctance to be "romantic" with Lacey surprisingly, pleasantly disarming.

I'm worried about Ty this week.
NTLurker
I thought Lil Kim was fantastic, her and Dereck's dance actually put a smile to my face. She's the surprise of the season for me.

Hopefully her and Giles will be final two, I'd be happy with either of them winning.
spanana
I generally like Lil Kim too, but I wasn't all that impressed with her jive either. It seemed to me also like she was barely hanging on to the dance by midway through.
ketgz
I looove Ty! He is so adorable. Chelsea seems like a really good teacher. It was nice to see the silly gimmicks in the practice recap actually kinda make sense in a teaching someone to dance way.

What’s up with Mark? He seems quite quiet and, well, not mugging for the camera. Weird. Maybe he just didn’t want to look like he was enjoying a romantic dance with a minor. A good decision on his part, not having any of the body against body moves.

Melissa and Tony, aka, The Toothy Twins, did better than last week, but that song was painfully distracting.

Lil Kim and Derek were cute. I like the fact that it didn’t seem as slowed down as the jive sometimes gets. I agree with Len that more jive steps would have been nice. Bruno was creepy again, though. Are they trying to make Kim and Derek this season’s showmance? Please, no.

When Steve-o was standing in place and taking one step on each slow beat, well, it wasn’t pretty.
His fans will probably keep him in, though.

Sorry to disappoint you, Gilles, but you’re still sexy when doing the jive. I like Gilles’ personality, but I still find Ty more lovable.

Ha ha, Julianne made Chuck wear lace. Okay, so Julianne is his girl, and Chuck is her man? Eew. And I have to say, his facial expressions made Chuck look constipated during their rhumba.

I love watching Len when Bruno is talking.

Do people really look forward to the group dance?
kimmykaybee
Oh Ty, where is that improvement that was seen during the first four weeks? The jive didn't that good.

My favorite jive of the night was Lil Kim and Derek and my favorite rumba was Shawn and Mark's.

I thought Melissa also did a great job. Steve O and Lacey were meh. I thought I saw some good improvement with LT and I thought he had a nice jive. I thought technically Gilles had a good jive, but it didn't seem to be fun, like Lil Kim and Derek's.
LittleMissKris
Chuck and the "Future Ms. Wicks" made me want to vomit. "It's so good to be your girl right now"? Who talks like that in real life?
dancingurl
I wasn't that impressed with the dances tonight, I thought Lil Kim and Derek were way overscored that wasn't much of a jive looked more like a freestyle. I really can't say I enjoyed any of the routines, I guess Melissa and Tony had the best rhumba and Gilles and Cheryl the best jive although it wasn't Gilles best performance.
Colobethers
I don't get it...Lil Kim had at least two flubs. Pretty obvious ones if I noticed, and CAI and Bruno gave her 10s? Huh? And then they proceed to nitpick Melissa and Gilles, who maybe weren't perfect, but were still very good? I don't get it.

Julianne probably thought that the rumba would be the easiest because they're in loooooove, but I didn't feel it.

Steve-O really surprised me...I didn't hate it!

LT is just not very good...I hope he goes.

Poor Ty Murray, he is just soooo stiff. Even when he is looser, he's still stiff. Good for Jewel, bad for dancing.

Shawn was good, just can't get past Mark's constant mugging. I think I threw up a little in my mouth.

Seriously...did they not see Kim's mistakes?!
BettyPoz
Did Lil' Kim have a bit of a wardrobe malfunction there at the judging table?

Yes, I rewound it and there appeared to be something white sticking out of her bra. Tom pointed it out, she looked down and that's when he stood in front of her.

Oh, Steve-O. I really expected to hate you coming into this season, but you continue to beat those expectations down. Could you be any sweeter than you were tonight with Boogie? I also found his reluctance to be "romantic" with Lacey surprisingly, pleasantly disarming.

I love Steve-O but I was afraid coming in that he would WildBoyz it and I'm so happy he takes it so seriously. There was something romantic to their dance and I thought both their outfits were great.

I thought Ty was a little clunky tonight, Melissa's movements seemed choppy and I had to rewind again to see what they were saying about Gilles' arms. Did he say he hurt his shoulder?
Jersey09
Shawn and Melissa were the two standouts for me today.

I feel like Julianne's choreography is just all about her. I tried keeping my eyes on Chuck, but it was really hard. Perphaps it was their tacky-ass sparkly lace street corner costumes.

Lawrence makes me really uncomfortable.

Lacey is gorgeous.

I loved Lil Kim's performance, but I totally see Len's point. It truly was lacking in jiveness.

Her Thelma and Louis quip was total WTF. Hee.

Julianne and Chuck's clip before the dance made me gag/vomit. They seem so faux to me.
rulesoftravel
I didn't like Gilles' jive at all. It felt very off to me. I loved Chuck and Julianne's rumba and thought it was incredibly hot. Whatever they're selling, I'm buying. I thought Ty and Lawrence did some pretty entertaining jives, but Lil' Kim's was my favorite. This show is an entertainment show-for weeks in different seasons, Len and Carrie Ann kept Cloris and George Hamilton on by saying that the dance wasn't technically perfect, but it brought the entertainment value. Well, this brought the entertainment value. And brought it again and again and again. Loved it.

And I gave LT points for dancing to a Marvin Gaye song...he really did stay on step.

I thought Chuck thanking God for Julianne when they were in the Red Room before their dance was pretty funny.
Nioclas
I'll join the chorus and say that even though I like Lil Kim and Derek I felt they were over scored. It was not really a jive and there were mistakes.

I did agree with the judges that Giles and Cheryl's dance was not up to par with their previous dances this season. Something was missing. Actually something was missing from most of the dances tonight, but it was better than last week. There was more energy and better presentation. I felt Melissa and Tony had the best dance of the night with the Rumba. I thought Melissa looked gorgeous and the dance was well executed by her and Tony. I'm still cheering on Melissa/Tony and Cheryl/Giles.
WaltzinSpringTm
I just had a feeling that Lil Kim was going to be "held up' after last week. I thought their Vienese waltz was stiff on her part - there was a lot to like but also she was stiff in the head and the torso. Len is the only one calling out her technique. I think they want a less predictable finale' so they're pulling her along, but it really stinks when there's a huge gap between, say, a Gilles/Cheryl paso rated 29 and a Lil Kim/Derek jive at 29. Not even in the same universe of dancing. I feel as if they're judged at different standards, Gilles has no room for error, Lil Kim gets grace.

Just saying.
12345ne
Are the dancers required to wear bedroom attire when dancing the rumba? My goodness.....I can do without the sight of Julianne in that getup. I think if the chereography and execution are good, no need for lace. Actually, I call for banning lace on this show in general.

I thought Derek and Kim's dance was adorable but it looked more like the freestyle than anything else. I enjoyed Melissa and Shawn this week.....and that's about it. Oh well. At least Ty still looked adorable even though the dance wasn't anything to write home about.
bluvelvet
I think they should get rid of the Jive, it's too hard for the celebs to learn and you can't fake it. They should replace it with the Jitterbug or something else "bouncy".

The best Jive technically of the night was Gilles but for me the most entertaining was Lil Kim's. However I do agree with Len that Lil Kim's Jive did not have much Jive in her "jive."

Worst costuming of the night goes to Edyta's legging and Julianne's lingerie costume. Even with all the "raunchy" they still had no chemistry, no heat whatsoever. I think Julianne had more chemistry in her rhumba with 18 year old Cody. Julianne starts acting like her old teacher self and Chuck gets upset.

I thought Shawn's rhumba was really nice and so was Melissa's.

Loved seeing Warren Sapp and I am sure he helped Lawrence barely lifted his feet off the ground.

Ty was totally underscored he should have gotten the same score as Lawrence if not higher.

Steve-O was stiff as hell.
wtrabbit7
Really, Chuck and Julianne, your first date was on the pier and your first kiss was on the ferris wheel? Gag me. Also, how gross was their whole "I'm so happy just to be your girl/man" conversation? They really upset me.

I really enjoyed Lt's jive. It reminded me of your uncle that actually does have a little bit of rhythm dancing at a wedding. I thought it was sweet.
loseresque
His fans will probably keep him in, though.

I hope so. Steve O is my favorite part of this season; he got my votes tonight. I know I'm supposed to be enamored with Gilles (and quite frankly, he's great so I have no problems with him) and the others who can dance well, but I just really like a contestant who has no natural ability trying hard to learn this. I see some improvement but beyond that, his attitude in these intro videos is great. And plus, I like him much better than Chuck/Julianne and Lawrence. So I'm praying he stays.
Jersey09
Also, how gross was their whole "I'm so happy just to be your girl/man" conversation? They really upset me.

Do people really look forward to the group dance?

These two posts just totally had me LMAO.

Chuck and Julianne's conversations make me cringe. It seems so forced.

Speaking of other cringeworthy moments - the ring analogy during Melissa/Tony's rehearsal was so awkward. Oy.
Nioclas
Forgot to add that it is time for Lawrence, Steve-O, and Chuck to leave. Steve-O and Lawrence especially are the worst dancers left in the competition. I don't want a better dancer leaving with them staying. So tomorrow one of them needs to be shown the door.
kimmykaybee
I cannot stand Julianne not being tougher on Chuck. I don't care if he is her boyfriend, her job is to be the teacher.
rulesoftravel
I wish no one had to leave. This is a really entertaining group now. Wish Holly were still here, but that's my season refrain.

I can't help it-if someone dances to "Ain't That Peculiar" , I automatically like it.

Really, Chuck and Julianne, your first date was on the pier and your first kiss was on the ferris wheel?

That's a pretty romantic setting for a first kiss. YMMV.
SanLynn
I want so much to like Gilles and I just... don't. He dances well and he's the guy to beat but I just get nothing from him and Cheryl. Just nothing. It pains me to say it.

The dances were meh for a second week in a row for me. I thought Melissa did well but that music was awful.

Ty I love. He gets all my votes consistently just because I love watching him go for it every week. I don't care what the judges said about his dance I liked it.

ETA: I forgot. Where exactly was the jive in Derek and Kim's jive? I don't think Kim did one jive kick that whole dance. Can someone tell me please how that earned two 10s?! Thank you Len for being the voice of reason on that one.
Abra
Lacey’s abs are SLAMMIN’. Steve-O’s dancing is oh, so, not. He’s quite horrible, really. Charming in rehearsal, and I laughed the loudest by far because of him rather than Tom, actually – didn’t think that would happen.

Close-up shots of Edyta’s legwarmers provide amusement.

My opinion? Shawn and Mark’s rumba was not age appropriate. She also looked uncomfortable through the whole thing to me, and she still has gymnast movements going on. And I saw several moves reminiscent of Mark’s rumba with Kristi. I loved the mini-prom the producers, I mean Mark, set up for her.

Woo Queen Latifah!

The Chuck and Julianne rumba was just kind of icky to me. First, how can I take anyone seriously with those costumes? And then the choreography was either too frantic or too pseudo-sexy. Not liking it at all.

I was surprised that Melissa was able to stay in character in her rumba (good idea Tony), and I thought she did really well. I pretty much agree with all of the judges comments on her performance, too.

Gilles totally looked in pain after his dance. I don’t think it was his shoulder either, he seemed to limp a backstage when they were going towards Samantha.

General technique question: Shouldn’t there be some kind of bounce action in the jive during kicky sections, or more give in the non-kicky leg, or something? I would say my examples tonight would be Lil Kim and Cheryl, of all people, as showing a lack of spring in their step. Also both of Kristi’s jives from her season. I so rarely enjoy jives, and wonder if unrealistic technique expectations (that is, my ignorance) are part of the issue.
GoldenWoman
I didn't know that you could get seasick from watching a boat on water. Oh wait that was just Julianne and Chucks dialouge. Once again there was no chemistry between him and he looked ridiculous in that shirt. Shawn did a sweet dance with Mark and I thought they did nicely overall. Lil Kim's dance was definetly a blast to watch but there were some wierd moves and missed moves. Not a 10 dance but still fun. Gilles and Cheryl's dance didn't do it for me. The music didn't help but you could tell he was totally out of his zone. He fell behind the beat a bit as well. Poor Ty fell apart completely tonight. I feel bad for the guy. Steve O was once again so stiff but I give him props for trying. LT was fun tonight and I liked his dance. Tony and Melissas dance was pretty but they don't have THAT kind of chemistry.
ordinaryangel
Julianne and Chuck's outfits = the pimp and his ho. My goodness, they looked trashy. But I have to say, I think I'd like Chuck better if Julianne wasn't his partner. I think another pro would have whipped him into shape. Julianne coddles him (no matter how tough she thinks she is), and it's tiring to watch.

I don't care if Steve-O isn't the best dancer, I think he has a great attitude towards this whole show. I'd much rather see Ty and Steve-O stay over Lawrence and Chuck. On a shallow note, I think Lacey is absolutely gorgeous this season—the brown hair is really working for her, compared to her normal black.

I didn't think Lil Kim's jive was that great. In fact, I found it kind of boring and clunky in spots, and while Cheryl and Giles's jive was a bit awkward for them, I thought it embodied the spirit of a proper jive, or at least the ones that you see the pro's do on the show.

I'd love for Lawrence to leave. There's something about him that just makes me so uncomfortable. I don't think he's really enjoying himself, and it's just so depressing to watch.
sugahgirl
I feel like I watched Bizarro DWTS tonight. I loved Ty and Chelsie except for the beginning and thought they were way underscored (I thought they would have gotten 7s). I also loved Chuck and Julianne (but totally called Len's reaction). That was the hottest thing I've seen since, well, the Apolianne Cha Cha to "Push It." I also love Gilles and Cheryl, but I thought something was very off about their dance. Dance Dance is a super fast song, and Cheryl's choreography was super fast but the music felt super slowed down. But it wasn't like when you can tell the dancer has slowed down the song (no particular number is coming to mind at the moment but I feel like Tony did this for Jayne quite a bit). Instead, it felt like Cheryl and Gilles BOTH had to wait for the band to catch up at points. Also, I think the way the chopped up the song was weird and really distracting (all so they could avoid the "show me a little bit of that spark you've been saving for his mattress" line). For me Lawrence needs to go. Not only because he stinks, but he seems humorless about it. I'd rather have Steve-O's good humor and earnest efforts any day of the week.
DrGirlfriend
Most of my joy in watching this show got up and left last week on DAG's shoulder's, but pushing on...

Ty's a stiffie, but a complete gentleman and full of humility - and at least he got a fun song. Shawn was quite nice, and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all watching... except for when they're actually discussing her "innocence" as if it's a commodity that's gonna get sold to some skeevy older man a la Memoirs of a Geisha. For chissakes, just shut it about her age. She seems like - and probably is - a very sweet person, but let's not forget that there are PLENTY of 17-year-old mothers, murderers, and everything in between out there in the world. Seventeen is NOT that innocent - it's just a convenient role to stick her in.

Melissa - not such a great song (was it supposed to be rumba-worthy-sexy?), the dance was fine, but jeezum cripes, Tony, what were you thinking with the yellow and purple chiffon/gauze getup? That's a color combo to leave to the daffodils and crocuses. Kim was cute, energetic, and seemed to TOTALLY mess up a few steps! Why is this not pointed out? Oh yeah, cuz the show is rigged. Forgot about that. I agreed with Len's assessment - not enough real jive - but it was fun to watch (and I loved the audacity of giving the jailbird Jailhouse Rock to dance to - cruel and unusual?) though somehow I felt she was channeling Joy from My Name Is Earl. Was it the hair?

For the first time, I saw Chuck and Julianne's magnetic attraction. As in two hard pieces of cold metal snapping together. Was that supposed to look sexy? I tried to put aside the vomit-inducing it-feels-good-to-be-your-wo/man tripe (they both suck ass as actors) and hoped for something good, as they're both attractive young people, but wtf? Is the rumba supposed to be frenetic? Head-snapping? Just my opinion, but I'd rather see a sexy head roll than that weird 80's band hair-tossing Julianne tries to distract with. She comes off as very immature, moreso than Shawn. I'd say Steve-O and Lacey had more sexiness, and that's saying a lot. (Actually, Lacey's outfit was strangely hot and intimate - helped to distract from Steve-O's mechanical butterfly-stroke-type arm movements.)

I feel like I'm missing someone. Oh yeah... uhh, LT? Yawn, f'in yawn. I started grinning when Warren Sapp made a visit, and then lost the smile once the dance started. And Edyta, I adore you, and are the only woman I drool over (as a straight female), but those leg thingies were atrocious. She has the most amazing body, and yet those fabric sleeves actually made her legs look weird and scrawny. Please leave the warmers in the practice room.
jennifer6973
I thought Chuck and Julianne sucked, big time.

It's about time Lawrence Taylor had fun, guess he just needed Warren to tell him.

I loved Shawn and Mark's Rhumba.

Plus all my votes went to Ty, just because.

Everybody else was meh.
MeeMaw
I was surprised at the two 10's for Derek and Lil Kim. The dance was fun, but it didn't seem much like a jive to me.

Melissa and Tony's rhumba was good, but I think it was overscored. (And I'm usually a Melissa/Tony fan.)

Cheryl and Gilles' jive seemed to have a lot of jive content in it - maybe too much. He was struggling to keep up with her, I felt. I wonder if Cheryl is over-choreographing for him.

The rest were kind of blah for me.
Fellaway
Yes, I rewound it and there appeared to be something white sticking out of her bra. Tom pointed it out, she looked down and that's when he stood in front of her.

Thanks, BettyPoz! I had glanced away from the screen for a moment, and when I looked back, Tom seemed to be shielding Lil' Kim from the camera. Second time for her, I think.

Seriously...did they not see Kim's mistakes?!

Really! If I could see how feeble her footwork was tongiht, they surely should've been able to. It made no sense to nitpick Gilles and Melissa, but not Lil' Kim after that performance.

Did he say he hurt his shoulder?

I believe he hurt it earlier in the season.
Warkey
Lil Kim was way overscored, and Derek way, way overdanced.

I thought Ty was underscored. The beginning was a little off but I thought he did better than 6's.
etexlady
When I heard that Julianne's partner would be her current boyfriend, I thought it odd that TPTB would go along. Weird really that they would pair two people who already had a relationship. I don't think it's working out. The singers were especially bad tonight. I thought Edyta looking prettier than she ever has before....maybe it was the hair or different makeup. I do hate those leg warmers though. Gave my votes to Gilles, Shawn and one to Lil Kim.
pandamanda
it is time for Lawrence, Steve-O, and Chuck to leave.

Pretty much.
Steve-O seems sweet, but please someone just put him (and us) out of his misery.

LT, please someone put poor Edyta out of her misery. He just seems a wee bit grim and humorless.

Chuck, please leave so I can stop taking kitchen breaks and over-snacking every time you Julianne have awkward "couple" scenes. There may be something wrong with me - I'm able to watch a minor dance all sexay, I can even watch brothers and sisters do intimate latin dances, but an actual couple who allegedly are actually into each other make me shudder. It seems forced.

I agree Lil' Kim was a wee bit overscored, but very glad about that because I really want her to stay. I think one of the flubs was the kick at the end with no connection with Derek's body?

Didn't really enjoy Gilles' dance as much, but he did get a pretty tough song to dance to, I thought.
Secret
I am so glad that I'm not the only one that thought that Lil Kim and Derek were completely overscored. 10s? Really? It was totally fun and I loved the music and the tongue in cheek reference to Kim as a jail warden, etc. and it was very theatrical. But, it seemed very lacking in actual jive. I'm no expert on ballroom dancing, but it seemed more like a freestyle dance than a jive.

It was funny, as I was typing that elsewhere, Len started talking and its like he was reading my mind!

I thought Giles jive was much more of a jive, but was a little bit frantic in spots. I loved the beginning steps.

I don't know anything about the rumba, but I thought Melissa's dance was beautiful. I was impressed that she stayed in character and brought the emotion and chemistry.

Shawn and Mark's dance had a little bit of that awkwardness, but the dance was lovely and.. sweet. I absolutely loved that Mark set up a mini-prom for Shawn.

As for the rest? I absolutely love Ty, but it looked like he was lost somewhere in the middle. Poor guy, he's trying so hard. Steve-O didn't deserve the 4s and 5s. Ouch. Again, I'm no expert, but it didn't seem like Lacey gave him much to do except stand there while she danced around him. How is that his fault?

I am so glad that Warren came to give LT a pep talk. FINALLY, it looked like he was having fun dancing. Just having fun with it made me enjoy it more. Chuck and Julianne had more chemistry than I ever thought they would manage. A few of the poses, combined with the barely there costumes were a bit much. Heh, I'm sure Chuck looooved wearing black lace and sequins.
MystikMinx
Melissa was my fave tonight. Melissa's looked lovely all the way through, and showed more depth of character tonight. I love watching her in rehearsals, she's so real and good-natured. I love that the judges give her good pointers on what to work on in the future, they aren't doing that enough with the other dancers.

THEY PUT CHUCK IN A BLACK LACE SHIRT. BWHAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHA. HEE!

And Chuck whining about Juliette being "mean"? Grow up! And her being "mean" pisses him off? Oh please. He just annoys me to no end. Actually they both annoy me, they look way too fake together. But again, they put him in a black lace shirt, and that cheered me up immensely.

Giles and Cheryl's jive was okaay, but I agree with Len that it was hectic and looked rushed in places.

I like the showboat performance of Lil'Kim's and Derek's dance tonight, but she really seemed to lose steam mid-way through and she stopped completing moves all the way through. I am SO glad that someone pointed out that her nipple-petal was peeking through. Smart move putting a nipple petal on tonight though, that costume was loowww cut.

Not so impressed with Shawn's dance...or her outfit. The routine just seemed blah and a bit too sharp, not enough flow and dance.

Ty was stiff tonight and behind on the beat and steps. I thought he looked looser in rehearsal. I'm liking him better than I did the first week, but he's just not improving enough week to week.

I don't know why each week I hope Steve-O will suddenly learn to dance. This was honestly just like he stood there. Moved here. Put his arms out here. Moved over there. Sudden jig. Back to standing here, arm out to one side. Walk over to Lacey. I admire his dedication but there is NO dancing. I want him to dance, I kinda like him. :(

LT's dance suprised me, he actually did a bit better. But I still think he can't dance and needs to go. At least Edyta seemed a bit happier this week.

Looking forward to next week's dances! I hope everyone steps it up some!
fitzwdarcey
Would someone who knows more about dancing explain what Carrie Ann is often complaining about with lifts? Thanks.

Also, what was up with Melissa and Tony tonight? She did a great job, but I thought she did the character of the dance much better than he did, and they seemed less friendly tonight. In fact, he seemed almost surly.
SanLynn
Speaking of other cringeworthy moments - the ring analogy during Melissa/Tony's rehearsal was so awkward. Oy.

I actually channeled the Loon from "Hoodwinked" and said "Awkward!" and tried to back out of the room.

Just me? Oookay.

Chuck and Julianne never fail to make me throw up a little in my mouth every week and this week was no different. Will someone please kick them to the curb?!

And Shawn and Mark I couldn't even watch. I know she's 17 and he's 22 but watching them rhumba? No, just no.
sweetpd7
I know I'm in the minority and have a soft spot for LT. He is really having a difficult time, but giving this his all. I had to laugh when he was so happy his song had words! I'm glad Warren Sapp came around to coach him on enjoying the dance. Of course, LT probably is doomed because he admitted he hasn't enjoyed dancing for several weeks, not exactly vote inspiring.

I fail to find Steve-O appealing. He was cute with the dog. His dancing is abysmally bad, although I was surprised with a "4".

I really dislike Melissa, so I find it hard to be objective about her dancing. She and Tony had no chemistry at all in the rumba, although I'll begrudgingly say it was pretty.

I thought Julianne and Chuck looked a bit racy in the lace, but their dance wasn't bad. I'm with CAI, I see the chemistry. I liked the way they held each other and their movements.

Lil Kim and Derek were all kinds of hot and oozed chemistry, but their dance didn't look too jivey to me. Kind of funny they got "Jail House Rock".

Gilles and Cheryl had the first dance they didn't sell tonight. Maybe the band played that really fast song faster than they practiced, but something tripped up both their footwork.

Shawn did look a bit uncomfortable. This dance didn't get me either.

I'm worried about Ty and LT, I split my votes there. I guess I'm hoping Steve-O goes.

Shawn's costume hid her lack of hip action well. But the costume reminds me a lot of Kim K.'s costume last season. Yeah, Mark needs to give up that shirt. Just drop the bedazzler, Mark. I agree with Abra Shawn did not look comfortable. Shawn also had some bobbles too. I know some were thinking Gilles' dances were starting to look alike and I think that was partly due to dance assignment. For Shawn, I am getting the similar redundant feeling and it is mostly due to the dance assignment. Or also because the judges seem to be the same thing to her each week. I wish they would give her as well as Lil Kim more constructive criticism. I think both could benefit from something more than "you are so much fun" or "so cute, simple, sweet".

I agree Lil Kim was overscored which I am guessing is probably due to her small fan base. When is anything logical on the show? It was entertaining but not deserving of a ten. Her costume was adorable but the dance lacked jive content. It did look like a freestyle to me.

Surprisingly, LT was my favorite tonight. Mostly for bringing back Warren Sapp but also he just looked happy tonight. It really was bizzaro world as the top 4 struggled. Shawn was a bit blah as was Melissa. Gilles had a few mistakes, Lil Kim ran out of energy by the end of her routine. While Chuck, Ty, Steve-O and LT were fun to watch for me

Costume wise, was that a belt around Edyta tonight or actual pants? Also, I think Julianne designed that look for Chuck tonight as punishment for his stupid comments about ballroom dancing.

It seems like there is a group dance this year. A sixties dance, whatever that means.

ABC didn't just go along with the pairing of Chuck and Julianne, they are the architects of Chuck and Julianne. The themes ABC had set bit the dust right away - it was engaged pros battling, a husband and wife celeb team battling, and a boyfriend/girlfriend paired. All that remains is the boyfriend/girlfriend, and they aren't too into it.

I'm really glad that contrived drama didn't work out because I enjoy this season more. But I think there's absolutely no question Chuck/Julianne was an ABC/DWTs "brain"storm.

I don't usually wade into the showmance waters and I think the last time I speculated, I wondered if Kym Johnson were enjoying a sexy time with Warren Sapp. And this spec is way icky, but here it goes. I think Shawn has a crush on Mark (duh), but I am kind of wondering if Mark doesn't have a crush on Shawn, and is somewhat freaked out. And shrinking into himself (no intended reference to his wardrobe issues two weeks ago, but there you go).

SOMETHING is up. Wait. Oh never mind, I'll just keep going - after their lindy hop scores Shawn took it in stride but Mark seemed extremely subdued. He's gotten slammed before so I was kind of surprised how off he seemed after getting the scores (in confession) and he was pretty quiet again in confession last week.

it is time for Lawrence, Steve-O, and Chuck to leave.

ITA. Hopefully Steve-O will fart his way off tomorrow.

I really want Chuck to go next. Not going to happen but I'd feel a lot better about the show if he did. He just makes me so uncomfortable - even more than LT who seems unhappy a lot of the time.

But I have to say, I think I'd like Chuck better if Julianne wasn't his partner. I think another pro would have whipped him into shape. Julianne coddles him (no matter how tough she thinks she is), and it's tiring to watch.

I think I might liked him better too if he wasn't paired with Julianne. All the cutesy/lovey-dovey/trying way to hard to prove their twu wuv is really getting on my nerves to the point where I changed the channel when they were on.

Some thoughts about tonight:
Shallowly, I thought Chuck looked mildly pectastic before his dance. Then they went to his rehearsal package. He was mildly creepy/somewhat jerky as usual. The whole Santa Monica Pier thing was so contrived to me...it was like the producers of that package took the plot from The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas and the dialogue from, I don't know, Algiers or something. They both just looked strange in those outfits...Juliane looked like she was looking for a pickup. The dance was also far too raunchy for me (I absolutely agreed with Len). The rhumba can be so gorgeous, innocent, and romantic; or it can be gorgeous, steamy, and romantic. Rachel Stevens' rhumba from the most recent Strictly Come Dancing (which can be found here) is a perfect example of the steamy kind. It was not overdone, and I thought it was just exquisite (technically and as a performance). For those of you who thought that Julianne and Chuck were not a mite too sexual, you can review their dance in any Motel 6 for only $4.99.
So last season Lance got the perquisite visit from Joey Fatone and Susan from Cameron Mathison, so am I not surprised Lawrence got the perquisite visit from Warren? Edyta, darling, you're beautiful. Please put the leg warmers away. They just looked so very unusual this week. If you are suddenly bashful (if Rosanne is suddenly thin and George W Bush suddenly speaks like a Bostonian) about your calves, wear boots. I was impressed with Lawrence's musicality, but the movements were very heavy for me.
Derek, please put your hair away. And I understand your identity crisis. Let me clear it up for you. You are not Lacey. You have someone who has clear potential. Your time to "take risks" expired in rehearsals about six weeks ago. Please choreograph a real whatever-you-get-next-week, because while that performance was certainly a good performance (mistakes excepted), it was not a good jive, because it really wasn't a jive at all. Like that Wendy's commercial...wouldn't you like to know what was in that dance? It wasn't jive. Also, perhaps it's time for Bruno to start taking some barbiturates with his stimulants? Because, calm down. You are not guilty. No one is going to arrest you. Just close your eyes and breathe.
I don't remember much about Melissa and Tony except that their dance didn't really excite me. I didn't feel it. Do I sound like Carrie Ann or what? Oh, and I wondered how much labor it took to make those costumes.
I missed Ty and Chelsie's actual dance while we all fought over what to watch...but judging by the comments I didn't miss much. Is it tacky of me to say that Chelsie's outfit made me proud to be American? It is...I'll say it anyway. I'm disappointed though, I thought last week was an anomaly and his improvement might continue.
I'm still waiting for Mark's special guest appearance as a molestor of some kind on Law & Order: SVU. Despite his ubercreepiness, I found Shawn very relatable to this week. I enjoyed her dance...she acted it a little more than I thought might be her capacity. She definitely warmed into it though, as the middle and last sections were better than the first. Gorgeous, I thought, a fine example of the "innocent"-style rhumba (which is unsurprising because, frankly, what else did we expect Mark to choreograph? he may look like Corky but fortunately has more sense...am I the only one so happy Cloris never got to rhumba? but I digress). Shades of Cody...not in a bad way. It just reminded me of him and his rhumba.
I don't remember much about Steve-O's dance. I think I rememer thinking it looked very placed to me, not precise enough. This reminiscence may have belonged to another couple. I remember that, waiting for someone's scores, I could see Steve-O in the right side of their window and he looked oh-so-creepy. I also remembered to tell Lacey, if you're reading this, honey, putting Bratz jewels on your brassiere and stealing Ann-Margret's bathrobe is not an appropriate way to make a costume.
Whoever finalizes the music choices has (and/or thinks they have) a wicked funny bone: I Kissed A Girl and Tutti Frutti for Lance, Baby Got Back for Kim K, and Jailhouse Rock for Lil' Kim? I wonder what all her girls in the pen thought of that. Finally, did Samantha look rather beautiful tonight? Were her dress and hairstyle not revolting? And did her interviews go fairly well? My Lord, it's a paradox. And Queen Latifah! my god, please do the show. Please.
It was an enjoyable week, though not as enjoyable as I like. I predict some combination of Lawrence, Steve-O, and Ty for the Danceoff. Steve-O deserves to go, but I'm not sure that he will.

ITA - I just don't like how whiny he is! "I don't feel like a man, Julianne is too tough", dude? Please...Cheryl would've ripped your ass to shreds by now, something I'd love to see, bwahahahahaha

I loved Shawn and Mark's rumba. I also like Len's use (and actually, Lacey, too from last season) of the word "earthy" to describe the rumba. I thought Mark did a great job of creating a dance for Shawn that was age-appropriate but also allow people to actually see her as mature and sensual.

And even if Shawn had a temporary look of discomfort in her eyes at the beginning, I don't think it was worth getting an '8' from Carrie Ann. She had beautiful movements and I give her a lot of props for pulling off a character that she's definitely not accustomed to.
