Wow, Denise and Maks were royall screwed with their music. Just awful. I couldn't finish watching it.
Also, WTF is with Cheryl's habit of picking clashing red and pink for her and her partners' outfits? She pulled that with Maurice last season, IIRC.
DAG, and Ty were welcome surprises.
I don't think Kim deserved that 9 for her samba, but oh well.

The Foxtrots overall tonight were much better than the Sambas, which surprises me as I usually prefer the Latin dances. Hands down the best dance was Shawn/Mark's foxtrot for me..At the bottom of the foxtrot list I would actually put Chuck/Julianne and I think they were overscored to tell the truth.
Holly and Denise were horrible. Lil Kim's Samba was middle of the road but way ahead of those other two... I actually felt that Kim would have done better with a faster beat for her Samba. Second best dance of the night was Gilles/Cheryl's Samba..HOT HOT HOT!! I want him...that man knows how to shake what his mama gave him.
Steve-O should just give it up, this can seriously injure him.
On another note..WOW the "3" paddles, that was kinda harsh..I felt that the Woz was on par with Denise/Holly..
Of the women celebs, best samba--> Kim, best Foxtrot-->Shawn
Of the men celebs, best samba --> Gilles, best Foxtrot-->DAG
Was actually surprised that Ty got a Foxtrot, wasn't he up for a Latin as he did a standard last week?

Ty is just about the cutest thing in the world. You can't help but root for him. I loved how perfectly he handled Chelsea's fall. Go Ty!
They really need to start balancing out the show better because they stuck almost all the crappy ass dancers in the first hour and it was torture. I feel like they are more blatantly trying to bury the ones they want off the show soon in the beginning slots (Denise, Holly and etc.)
I don't know who to root for anymore. DAG was so much better and Kym seemed to have her sparkle back. I've always been rooting for Gilles, Shawn and Lil Kim. But I love Ty too.

Yay, Ty and Chelsie had the pimp spot tonight! And man, I was so impressed that Ty didn't let himself get rattled when Chelsie fell. I think a lot of the celebs would have been completely thrown. Way to go, Ty! Loved how the people in the red room gave him a standing ovation.
Re: Samantha asking Dmitry if there was any truth to his supposedly wanting Jewel back -- wow, talk about an awkward moment. He wasn't very convincing with his answer.
We actually saw the 3 paddle make a reappearance tonight! It almost made me feel sorry for the Woz. But in a way he was asking for it. I mean, the Worm? You should never attempt the Worm unless you can do it well...and even then, you still shouldn't do it (just tacking that on there in case Mark and Derek start getting any ideas).
It looked like Lil Kim forgot a step at some point, but I wasn't sure (when those two were dancing side by side?). She looked nervous at one point, but maybe her face just looks like that, heh. And yellow really does NOT look good on Derek, sorry to say. Maybe it's the blond hair that clashes, but...ew. He normally has better fashion sense than that.
Wow, Denise and Maks were royall screwed with their music. Just awful. I couldn't finish watching it.
I completely agree, and couldn't really judge their samba because the music sucked that much.

Carrie Ann, what a bitch. She said to Melissa thatdancing comes so easy to her, yet, Gilles 2 weeks in a row got BETTER scores than Melissa, and to me, he even dances better than Melissa. I see no difference between him and his partner. None. Nada. Dancing looks so natural coming from him. Yet, does Carrie Ann say ANYTHING to him about how dancing comes easy to him, or how he has a lot more "going on" than Steve Wozniak? No, of course not.
She wants Melissa to be seen as the ringer. Typical woman. Anytime a woman is a natural beauty, kind to other people and just an all around nice person, other women get their claws out. No one hates a beautiful woman more than another woman.
Carrie Ann never said anything to Shawn either. A gold medal winner who has trained every day of her life and has competed in front of millions for years. No, she says nothing to her, yet she has gotten the same scores as Melissa..
Carrie Ann has something very personal against Melissa. God forbid she would want someone like Melissa, who is a pleasure to watch dance, because she truly enjoys the experience, to win. No we want someone like Gilles who is catering to the horny middle aged housewife. If anyone is a ringer, it's him. He has been in first place every week, hasn't he?
So if someone with no dance experience can be in first place every week, doesn't that remove the argument than any dance experience means they don't deserve to win. People can't have it both ways.

I love Gilles' lines. Abso-freakin-beayootiful.
I never watch The Bachelor, but I like Melissa and her dancing. It freaks me out how her teeth and Tony's match.
Glad DAG did better.
This was the first week I enjoyed Lawrence's dance.
Shawn was good, but it was lacking. I think she needed to watch some Fred and Ginger routines to get more of te fun elegance of the Foxtrot.
Denise was just painful to watch. I never realized how, well, she comes across really stupid. I'm fine with her, Woz, or Holly leaving tomorrow.
Ty is just cute. I'm glad he is improving. Wish Jewel could have still been in it.
Chuck annoys me, but not as much this week as last week.
Lil Kim is fun.

I think the majority of the couples did so much better in their performances tonight. My fave couples that did the best dances of the night that I enjoyed and thought were well executed were: Cheryl/Giles, Tony/Melissa, and Mark/Shawn. I think these 3 couples just have natural chemistry that shines through and seem to gel the best along with doing some good dancing. These were my faves. I'm rooting for all 3 of these couples to make the final 3 this season. But many of the rest showed some improvement as well.

Oh, wow. I don't think I can ever or will ever want to unsee Maks in.... that... thingy. That was priceless. He's half-forgiven by me for the bitching about Melissa.
Saying that... I don't even remember Denise's dance. I remember being quite underwhelmed, though. She seems way uptight now. And while Chuck can shove it with the "just because we're together, they think we can't dance!" crap, I've gotta say, he and Julianne impressed me this week. God damn it. I liked their foxtrot. A few too many "HEY WE'RE A COUPLE WE DATE WE'RE A COUPLE TOGETHER US WE" moments, but a definite improvement nonetheless. He actually moved really well. Now if he can just stop being a douche.
Holly and Dmitry were cute when they were goofing around earlier (before it cut to the commercial break preceding their dance). Still... that was... eh. I like Holly and I wanna see her improve, but I have to wonder if she's just stuck like this no matter how hard she tries. I DO give her credit for actually trying, though. And wow, Samantha, way to make things awkward with asking Dmitry if he wishes he still had Jewel. Tom's response was priceless.
Steve-O! He tried, bless him, but he wasn't that good. It was painful to watch him just completely blank out so much. His back has to be killing him. I honestly think he should just back out now instead of risking his health like that - it isn't worth it. It was really sweet to see everyone concerned about him, though, even though he WAS responsible for the stunts that led to him injuring his back to begin with. Lawrence is honestly so forgettable. He's just there. The judges overscored him, I think - his movements seem so slow and lumbering, even if he's doing them properly. And it sucks because Edyta seems so likeable and sweet, but there's just big, draggy, boring Lawrence doing a samba on Ambien.
Shawn and Gilles were both wonderful: Shawn was fluid and graceful, Gilles was hot and sweaty. And his mom was adorable. I'm pulling for them both - I say if a dance merits those 9s (or 10s, like I thought we were gonna see after Gilles) at any stage like these two did, even in the first few weeks, then pull them out - but geez, what's with the side-cut-out dresses for Shawn? They don't flatter her figure at all. She looks like a pineapple with limbs in those things. David was better this week... still not enough there there, though (I thought he was overscored too), and he's still a whiny ass. But I saw some impressive parts, and then some boring parts that dragged with just Kym doing everything. He seems to want more for him to do choreographed in, so why not give it to him? And did everyone hear that really horrible note the singer squelched out on Come Rain Or Come Shine? Ow.
Holy FUCK that was awful, Woz. I did like his "Smirnoff" joke (seriously, it was actually pretty hilarious and clever), but he's still annoying , even if he is having fun, and I want him gone. Have we seen a score that low before or since Master P? Because that was pretty on-the-mark. Not to mention, Len was right about the dancing basically killing him. Fractured foot, pulled hamstring. Come on, dude, like I said about Steve-O: It's not worth it. And Melissa? I don't care if she's a "ringer" (...shit, unless she's had prior professional ballroom and Latin training, I say NO) or if she's not famous enough or famous for all the wrong reasons... quite frankly, she kicks ass. She was graceful and looked stunning. She rocks the floor. And she even looked a bit less orange this week... maybe it was the outfit. Speaking of which, I could watch her even if she sucked solely to see what weird glittery shit they put on her lower back every week it's exposed. I'm guessing there's a tattoo or something?
CHRIST, are Lil' Kim's hips surgivcally dislocated or something? That woman could make Shakira seethe in envy, the way she shakes her hips. Loved Len's comments about her possibly having a "bionic booty". She was great this week - she keeps getting better, and she's such a hard, determined, and eager worker. And her dress was very lovely tonight - yellow favors her. That being said, was it double-sided tape, glitter, or could I spot a very pale areola during her backstage interview? That was weird and kind of uncomfortable to look at.
And Ty. Oh, Ty. He and Chelsie weren't bad, but it seemed a bit underwhelming after last week. Still, he handled Chelsie's fall like a pro, and they were solid. A bit overscored, but solid. I thought I saw him stumble briefly later in the dance, though, but the judges either didn't notice or didn't bring that up. Either way, they're such a likeable pair, and Ty's so charming and adorable that I hope he keeps up his vast improvement. Chelsie does seem to be a miracle worker - she's a great teacher.
Tom and Len were great tonight. I also had a lulz moment when Carrie Ann just suddenly piped up to disagree with Len.
Best of the night? Easy: Gilles, Melissa, Shawn, and Lil' Kim. As before.
...Do I really need to mention who was the worst?

Carrie Ann has something very personal against Melissa.
If anything, there has been a longstanding feud of sorts between Carrie Ann and Tony, which has little to do with Melissa. That said though, Carrie Ann still gave her the same score as Gilles and Shawn, so I don't see it mattering much.

I think some of the pros were in an unofficial competition for the Worst Outfits of the Night. Mark was off his game with that unflattering outfit for Shawn (the color was very pretty though). I'm already anticipating the whinging about baby Shawn showing skin. Cheryl's clashing outfit is tied with Derek and Kim's horrible yellow costumes, but Karina was fighting to win with her prison style monstrosity.

I saw improvement in almost all of the couples (including Holly) tonight. The obvious exception was Denise, who was just painful to watch. Gilles is sex on a stick and I will be replaying that dance many times. Woz is bad, but I would rather watch him bumble around for another week than see Denise. Ty is the cutest dang thing on the whole dang planet. His personality really comes through in the rehearsal footage even if it doesn't always quite make it to the floor.

I really hate that such high scores are being given out so early. I mean, where's the room for growth when you already have three couples getting close to 30? I said last week that the final three was already decided and that is still holding true. We may as well fast forward to the end of the season. I really hate when things are a foregone conclusion /sigh.
I really don't believe that any of the dances deserved a 27, they were good but not that dang good. Seriously judges, throttle it back some.
I really love Steve-O and Lacey together. I thought that they looked great together and i'm sad that he's hurt. I could see the exact moment when the pain worsened and he lost the steps. It really was too bad because the dance had a lot of potential. I think that they have quite a bit of fan support though, they had a noticeable reaction from the crowd.
I think that Maks is going to be in for quite the little shock. I don't think that Denise is going to make it anywhere near as far as he smugly believes. The crowd was almost dead silent during their snoozefest of a routine and barely could muster the energy to boo against the bad comments. To me their dance was the worse of the night because it lacked in any sort of entertainment value and sucked as far as dance technique. I really want the two of them G-O-N-E. Also, Maks, for someone who had so much to say about those "girls" being out of shape last season, it's time to lay off of the beer and donuts. His upper body is not toned and his pecs were quite flappy and saggy, not to mention he's getting a bit of a beer belly. Not cute.
I don't think that Dmitry and Holly care for each other. He could barely muster any enthusiasm during their practice and couldn't even fake happiness with her backstage during Samantha's interview portion. Also she's very irritating.
I'm so very much over the Woz. "The show cares so much about my health". Go home, tubbs, just exit, anytime now. I'm not amused by him and it's not even worth the time to watch (which I noticed Len didn't even bother watching the entire routine).
I hope that the b2 is Woz and either Denise or Holly. I don't mind the three of them coming in a triple elimination.

Did the Woz forget Mark and Maurice were both criticized for the worm and they actually pulled it off. At least I know the 3 paddle exists. I want Woz gone.
The show really needs to balance out the show more because the first hour was dreadful. LT improved the night but he did not dance until an hour into the show.
Cheesy opening credits have returned! So did Benji in the audience, ugh. Also a shot of bejeweled headgear lady who was going OTT tonight. While Denise had a horrible a samba song, she was awful. She looked good though (hair and all), but cannot say the same about the dance. Also, maybe it was just HD not being flattering but all I saw with this huge vein on Denise's forehead while talking the judges. Freaked me out. But nothing tops that close up of Bruno after Woz's dance.
On a positive, the top dancers are still good. I most enjoyed Gilles, Ty, Shawn and Lil Kim. Lil Kim appeared to forget a step, but it did not hinder the performance side. Huge improvement by LT and DAG. They both made me smile with their performances. Gilles just has "it". I noticed Shawn's parents were one of the first people standing up giving him a standing ovation.
what's with the side-cut-out dresses for Shawn? They don't flatter her figure at all. She looks like a pineapple with limbs in those things.
Speaking of Shawn, I am just not loving the costumes on her and that green with the orange spray tan was all wrong. The side cuts out have to stop too. Whoever is in charge of the spray tan needs to take it down a notch with her. Yeah, yellow looked great on Kim, Same with the red on Gilles.
The audience overall this season does seem more rowdy, but whoever was shouting in the audience needs to cut it out. It was beyond annoying.
Nothing new though. Three weeks in and Carrie Ann did the "Men on film" joke and has said something is just wrong/off with Melissa while being very vague and general.
Oh Samantha. I am sure Gilles' mother is so proud that he can make women swoon.
I love you Dmitry, but that "it's hard" after Samantha asked about dancing with Holly after dancing with Jewel was just awkward.

I loved his "We didn't practice that" quip backstage, hee. He really does have a great sense of humor and I'm glad we get to see more of his personality as the weeks pass by. Good lord, I was out and I don't have access to a dvr tonight and I'm all over youtube waiting on Gilles and Cheryl's dance, and whoever is posting them skipped from LT/Edyta to Melissa/Tony - where the hell are G&C?
I did see Shawn's foxtrot and I agree it was lovely but lacking, as far as content, and a bit of expression. She and Mark have lovely chemistry. I hope Mark continues to resist pressing the point (he likes to tell as well as show through choreo).
I saw Denise/Maks as well and while the music was ass there's really no excusing whatever Denise was doing out there, which included sticking out her butt while tilted forward. When she was promenaded around the perimeter by Maks I had to bail, it was too cringe-inducing. It was nearly a comedy sketch.
I think he'd be better served if he didn't try so hard to make her fun. She's not one of his fun partners. She's pretty earnest and wants to do well. All the partners aren't the same, so he should tailor his approach and relationship to who they are.

L'il Kim did not shave under her arms tonight. And apparently, it's been quite some time. Talk about distracting. Between that and the petals showing under her costume...
Loved seeing Benji and Lacey's dad in the audience.
Did anyone else see Naomi from the Bachelorette there to support her girl Melissa?
Julianne designs the most amazingly flattering costumes every week. Honestly, she seems to have no misses - she knows her body and chooses the most gorgeous colors and shapes.

Nope, Master P got an 8 the week he was eliminated (and should've gotten that score for other dances). Personally, I think the Woz was judged too harshly; of course he's pretty bad, but considering the shit that Cloris did last season that was called "dancing" and the fact that she kept getting 5's and 6's, they're being unfair to Woz.

Okay, Cheryl continues to piss me off with her brattybitchy attitude when things don’t go well in rehearsal, but I just may wipe the slate clean, because that samba was fucking AWESOME. Hot, hot, hot, entertaining as hell, beautifully choreographed and performed. Awesome. And I loved Gilles’s mom. So sweet.
Ty, I just love you more now. How is this possible?
Dmitry, what the fuck? I tend to be the type who doesn’t give her opinion unless asked for, because I am very honest and don’t know how to be delicate about it. If you put me on the spot and my thoughts aren’t entirely positive, I would say pretty much exactly what Dmitry said. Not exactly diplomatic. I think I gave them an extra vote just to make Dmitry suffer with Holly for at least another week :) He did look especially yummy tonight, and I liked the choreography. I didn’t think it was quite as bad as the judges comments claimed. Holly did annoy slightly in her rehearsal footage, however. The girly affectation has to be annoying when everyone is already frustrated.
Surprisingly, I didn’t think Woz’s samba was as bad as the judges scored, either. That was rather cruel of them actually. They never scored Cloris that low, and she was horrendous. Woz can’t dance for shit, but at least he looks like he’s having a good time. And I’m someone who’s been hoping he’d go from the start (I already got as much Segway as I’m going to, so I’m done).
Denise continues to horrify. It’s crap like that that made me cringe at the thought of the samba in week 3. Yuck yuck yuck. At least the judges scored accordingly instead of coddling her. And Maks in that outfit…heeeeeeee!
Yay DAG! Good times, and hello to the Rockettes. (His butt stuck out, though.) Maybe he and Tony can do a kicky number together.
Chuck improved, and I loved Julianne’s dress. I’m not to the point where I’ll vote for them yet, but that wasn’t bad at all.
I gave Steve-O a sympathy vote.
Melissa makes me want to get on the Bachelor and do something endearing yet outlandish enough that ABC remembers me and asks me to be a contestant on DWTS. She gives me hope. I wasn’t as impressed with her dance this week, I do see where she needs work (and I never thought she was a ringer). I hope Tony does challenge her more.
Aside from the faces Lil Kim was making, that was an entertaining samba.
I must say, aside from some of the musical choices, I’ve been very pleased with the musical performances by the band and the singers this season (for the most part). Kudos to them.
And is it just me, or are Carrie Ann’s comments and observations pretty on point this season? Just me?

Mar 23, 2009 @ 9:24 pm
My favorite dance of the night was probably a tie between David Alan Grier and Ty/Chelsie simply because there was such a big improvement and they seemed to enjoy themselves.
I thought Shawn's foxtrot was lovely, but I really, really wish they would stop putting her in dresses with the cut out sides. It's not flattering and I think she would feel even more graceful if she were wearing more of a dress!
Giles samba was great. I love Cheryl, and her choreography was great.
I liked Melissa's foxtrot, but something was missing. I don't know if it was the choreography, the transitions, or if she missed a step or something. She did great, but I don't know, I agree with that part of what Carrie said. I don't agree with saying it is easy for Melissa, because clearly everyone from Giles to Melissa to Woz are working their butts off trying to learn the routines!
This is the first season I've watched in a while. Other than wanting to mute Samantha's microphone, it isn't grating on my nerves yet.

His blog has been odious, and he called the people on the show liars and cheats, and had to retract and apologize. I think they gave him the scores he deserved, no mercy, because he continually shoots his mouth off when not on camera.
Blame Mark. Shawn has said that Mark is very involved with every step of designing her dress.
It's a mistake I often see photographers make with short women. They "see" them as cute and tiny, and end up shooting awful pictures of them, because they don't see the total effect, just someone petite and adorable. Her outfits have been awful for her body, that salsa outfit needed movement and flounces at the hips and bust, tonight's needed to not cut away to make her look pudgy.

Woz's samba was bad, but it was not as horrific and making me wish to wash my eyes out with bleach like Cloris' dances. I think the show just wants him out especially due to his injury.
Tomorrow's results show is only worth watching for Adele. I do not want to see Woz and Denise dance off.
Blame Mark.
Costumes are not a strength. Well, at least he is not bedazzling her. Now stop with those cut outs, Mark. For her body type, it is not flattering.
The odd couple I enjoy watching back stage is Shawn and Lil Kim. Go figure.
Before Chelsie fell, I kept thinking her dress looked a bit long and then she slipped. Ty's improving, but I am want to wait to see him do another latin dance before I give him most improved.

I did not pay attention to the last season so, I'm still in the "Samba/Rumba in Week 5" mindset. Samba seems to be the hardest latin dance for the celebs. To have them do it in Week 3 while the other group does the Foxtrot...bit unfair, imo.

I'm still not sure about Kym/DAG, but I'm glad he seemed to be getting along better with her and she got to show off her expertise in standard.
Did anyone else think Woz had pulled down his pants during the end of the dress rehearsal footage? Scarring. I did like him in the first week, and I don't dislike him now, but I kind of want him gone. It's embarrassing to watch him. That Worm was horribly done. If you're going to do that, do it right. And why was Karina dressed like a prisoner? Were they trying to tell us something about her partnership with Woz?
Speaking of embarrassing - Maks degrading himself in that pink outfit. He must be desperate for votes. I'm just unnerved by Denise.
Holly and Dmitry had such horrible music. I was so distracted by the music I could barely notice the performance. Maybe that was a good thing.
I see that we're back to fawning over Chuck and Julianne. Yet another superfast dance. At least this time he moved. Didn't you love the way he pandered to his fans by pointing out that they were dancing to country music? Maybe he has to remind people that he's on the show for reasons other than his girlfriend.
I liked Ty and Chelsie a lot, although I enjoyed his personality more than his foxtrot. There was some elegance missing, although considering where he started from, that's understandable. I thought they did a wonderful job and he was the perfect gentleman. I'm sure he's not looking forward to the return of the Latin dances but I do want to see how much his improvement and his work ethic will help him.
Does anyone else keep forgetting about Laurence? He's a nice guy and a good dancer, and I struggle to remember him every week. This week I gave him about 1/3 of my votes, just to try to help make sure he stays.

He's trying, he's happy... oh well, it's not pleasant and Karina looks like she would rather be anywhere else but here, so let's just end it already. Ditto with Maks and Denise... that was one of the flattest sambas ever. And with Holly... I decided that I really like Dmitry (not a SYTYCD watcher, so this is my first impression), but he and Holly have no chemistry at all.
Steve-O... I feel bad that his injury is holding him back, and that he is really trying, but he really is not great. Unfortunate that he pretty much lost it. I at least want him to outlast the afore-mentioned three, but I'm not sure if his health will hold up. And what in the blue fuck was up with the top half of Lacey's dress? I hated that. She is looking really great this season IMO, I can tell the weight she has lost, but that dress was not working for me one bit.
Overall the foxtrots >>> sambas... but I could have told you that before the show. I think week 3 is just too early for the samba. Gilles, and to a lesser extent Lil Kim (and slightly lesser extent LT, who greatly improved) were the only sambas that didn't make me cringe. Gilles' was smoking hot.
I LOVE TY! Oh man, I love that guy. And I really, really like Chelsie as a pro as well. She is doing a great job with him. He always makes me smile in his rehearsal footage... and boy the composure he showed when she fell. Just, awesome. I really want him to make it far. He is very endearing!
Also really enjoyed David & Kym's foxtrot. I love the out-of-hold parallel stuff. She seems to have her bubbly spunk back, I was worried about her and their dynamic for the first few weeks. They did well and should get past the halfway point if they continue at that level. And because we knew it was coming... two snaps up!
Shawn's foxtrot was different... didn't so much have that "Fred & Ginger" feel, but I really enjoyed the feel. Love her. And Melissa is really talented, but I'm still not completely feeling her. Nothing against her personally, I'm just not completely sold yet. I wish Carrie Ann and Tony would cut the shit though, entertaining as their spats may be.

I somehow missed Gilles (boo!) but saw the rest. Lil Kim is actually surprising me with her movements and I laughed when the camera cut away from her as she silently dropped the F bomb.
Ty is nothing but a bundle of cute and that was a pretty good recovery on his end. The Woz OTOH....he's just delaying the inevitable. A bad foot, now a bum leg? It's not worth it, sir.

Typical woman. Anytime a woman is a natural beauty, kind to other people and just an all around nice person, other women get their claws out. No one hates a beautiful woman more than another woman.
I have no idea how kind and nice Melissa is. I would not call her beautiful. There are several beautiful women on the show, and Melissa doesn't belong in that category. So I guess Carrie Ann needs to catch up on her hating.
No we want someone like Gilles who is catering to the horny middle aged housewife. If anyone is a ringer, it's him. He has been in first place every week, hasn't he?
Yes, that's because Gilles and Cheryl are the best dancing couple, thus far, even though Cheryl is a woman and quite beautiful.
Woz got lower scores than Cloris, as awful as she was.
DAG/Kym were much better. Also enjoyed Lil Kim/Derek.

I agree with the first part: as I was watching Melissa, I thought she was excellent, but it looked too easy, and maybe she should try increasing the level of difficulty. Then Carrie Ann basically said the same thing. While everyone is certainly working hard, Melissa has a background in dance, so it just comes easy for her, unlike most of the others. So I think Carrie Ann's point was that she should try to up her game.

I think week 3 is just too early for the samba.
Word. All I heard from the judges is how tough the dance is. Then why are they dancing it in week 3? It did not surprise me at all that the foxtrots were superior to the sambas. I fully expected that. Well, except I think Gilles had the dance of the night.
Gilles is a natural, IMO. The fact that he is good looking and appeals the show's main demo helps. But I also think that has nothing to do with him leading the judges' scores each week. Cheryl/Gilles dance the best overall performance, IMO, each week.
Chuck was better, though he did hunch over a bit. Julianne's costume was lovely. Her samba outfit with Helio aside (which she said she hated), I do think overall she has pretty good taste and made pretty good costuming choices. Same with her brother.
Unless Ty, Lil Kim or someone else moves up there, I do not see how the final will be anyone but Melissa, Gilles and Shawn. I am still not 100% sold on Gilles fan base. It could be growing but Shawn came in with a sizeable advantage and I am sure Melissa has a solid one too. The outcome is not as obvious but the final 3 appears to be.

I voted for Steve O. I really like that he's trying and I like that I can see him improving. I liked a lot of the dances tonight but the good dances are starting to become interchangeable to me. It's become more fun to see people working hard at it. So I gave Ty a vote as well.

I never watch The Bachelor, but I like Melissa and her dancing. It freaks me out how her teeth and Tony's match.
It's not just their teeth that match, their facial features literally look like the male/female versions of each other, even down to their similar, subtle little butt chins.
Frankly, ever since their first dance together, I've been struck by how much those two look like a big bro and lil' sis dancing duo. And when they grin at the same time, it seems to emphasize their almost uncanny sibling-like resemblance.
I love you Dmitry, but that "it's hard" after Samantha asked about dancing with Holly after dancing with Jewel was just awkward.
I'm cutting him some slack on that. Because, IIRC, just before SamIAm asked him that tactless question, Holly had just been talking (not in a complaining way) about how hard it was to learn ballroom dancing.
So, when Dmitry responded with "it's hard" it actually came across to me like he was acknowledging that gelling as a pair was a challenge for the two of them as teacher and student because of both the last minute partner change, and the dificulties someone like, no-dance-experience, Holly could tend to have with learning something as demanding as ballroom dancing.

Not much middle ground on this go round. The scores were terribly low or gloriously high, with almost no middle ground.
I saw Shannen Doherty in the audience.
Sam really put down Shawn by Sam's stupidity in wording her remarks. Can't Sam be put out to pasture?
I thought the costumes really lacked for the most part. Gilles looked like he was in a prison jumpsuit, though the samba was hot. I guess he and Karina, with her black and white garb should have traded partners.
CA was so catty telling Melissa it is too easy for her. But I do agree she's missing something. Kind of like Brooke a bit. I dislike her and think she is very good at playing nice, but not so sure she's sincere. I just don't want Miss Dallas Nobody winning this thing with her ringer like abilities.
LT was so improved, but the dance didn't have a lot of spirit.
Denise and Holly were both awful. Put them out of their misery and send them home. And Steve is just beyond awful. I'm forwarding thru a second version of that wormy monstrosity tomorrow.

Has Tony ever had an affair with any of the dancers he has danced with? I don't know, but to me, and this is my first season, but it looks like he can't ever take his eyes off of his partner, Melissa.

The Foxtrots overall tonight were much better than the Sambas, which surprises me as I usually prefer the Latin dances.
I think the quality level tonight may justify holding them off until the dead wood is gone.
I have to admit, I'm enjoying this more that I've found the mute button on my remote. I hit it as soon as Tom says, "Samantha," and I'm much happier.

Exactly. The audience took it poorly, but I don't think he meant it like it sounded. Also, would I be wrong to assume that English is not his first language?
Also - LOL at "SamIAm!"

Wow, I was very pleasantly surprised to hear one of my favorite songs on the show tonight. I threw Gilles and Cheryl some votes simply for dancing to "El Matador" by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Awesome! The dance was great too. :-)
Liked quite a few performances tonight. Lil' Kim, Gilles, Melissa, Shawn, Ty, Lawrence, David, and Chuck. Even though I loathe Chuck I think he vastly improved since last week and can actually dance well. Dammit. Thought Ty did very well for having his pro slip in the first third of the dance. Nice recovery by both of them.
Felt bad for Steve-O.
Laughed at Woz through the whole dance.
Did NOT like Holly or Denise's performances.
ETA: Who knew Maks had a spare tire? That dress and the one Shawn had on made both of them look like they had the same figure.

Karina was doing a Beetlejuice shoutout with that samba, right? Between her big stripes, the song and Woz's (sand)worm, all I could think was Beetlejuice. Maybe I'm just a fan....
The music tonight was awful. So very awful. Denise isn't a great dancer, but she didn't stand a chance with that song. The look on Maks's face when Bruno commented on the lack of "party feel" really said to me that Maks was pissed about the song.
I worry for the health of both Steves and want them gone. I even kind of like Steve-O, but it's not good to watch.
There's something strange about Ty getting the Quickstep last week and the Foxtrot this week. off the top of my head I don't thin anyone else repeated either Latin or Standard this week so it seems unfair. The whole concept of having the samba in week 3 is very dumb, I was expecting Mambo because it's a bit easier to learn. The bounce of the samba is hard to pick up.
Lil' Kim has amazing hip action. She was popping out of her top during her interview with Sam and Derek was basically groping her in an effort to keep her covered up. It was kind of sweet?
I figure Tony and Melissa have the best chance to spoil the Ballas Hough Cheryl repeat win that seems inevitable at this point.

While everyone is certainly working hard, Melissa has a background in dance, so it just comes easy for her, unlike most of the others. So I think Carrie Ann's point was that she should try to up her game.
Exactly. In Melissa's defense (which pains me because I dislike her), it's not her job to challenge herself. It's Tony's job to create more challenging choreography for her. The expectations for competitors with dance or
comparable backgrounds (Shawn, Kim) should be higher than for competitors like Steve O and Woz, IMO. That's only fair, which prompted Carrie Ann's "let's be real" comment, I think.
I hated the judges reaction to the Woz. It's going to be much more difficult to learn to dance if you're not physically fit. They know it is going to be harder for him than the others so Bruno's bitchface, in particular, was out of line.
Ty is proving to be a "diamond in the rough". I'm really enjoying him and I hope he stays!
CA's right that Cheryl's looking great. I think she is looking terrific on the dance floor this season
By contrast, am I imagining it or has Derek lost a lot of weight? He looks really different this year (not in a good way) and I can't put my finger on what has changed.

Of course Denise and Maks' samba didn't have a party flavor - that was the most depressing samba music ever performed. Maks' choreography looked really interesting though; I would like to see that dance with a professional partner. I doubt Maks expects to get far this season. Denise is a mess and in the rehearsal footage (pink dress notwithstanding) he certainly appears to be working, not enjoying himself.
Also in the "musically shafted" category - Julianne and Chuck. Good for Julianne for choreographing a traditional-looking foxtrot despite the crappy music.
I don't know anything about Wozniak's blog and yes, he's a horrible dancer, but it's not as if that comes as a surprise to anyone. If the producers are going to continue to cast these joke contestants, the judges need to get in on the joke.
Ty's dance looked like it would have been very charming. LiL Kim was totally overscored. I don't know what was going on with Steve O. If he's in rehab, he surely can't take painkillers, so he's probably hurting. He seems very earnest about wanting to do well, but he's right up there with Wozniak in the wooden gestures and lack of rhythym.
