The two celebrities receiving the lowest vote tallies compete in a dance-off; singer Jewel performs ``Somewhere Over the Rainbow ; Big Bad Voodoo Daddy performs; choreographer Michael Rooney performs; one celebrity is eliminated.

tip and fall
Well...that was predictable.

Now wait. I bet we'll hear Steve Wozniak complaining about being in the bottom two.
EagerContrarian
Hooray! Teh Woz stays for another week!

I think he's adorable.

Chuck can go next.
mtlchickie
Kym's audible gasp when she realized she and DAG was safe was nothing short of adorable. However...not much to say about the dance off other than "Bruno? Your paddle is on backwards." It was a deserved bottom two and Belinda going wasn't a huge surprise.

Is it me, or has Cameron's pecs gotten bigger? And speaking of gratuitous nudity....thank you Dmitry for having that ongoing allergy of you not being able to button a shirt.
TorontoFan
Mickey Rooney --so cute! Talented son.

Samantha - who has a ballgown with pockets?? Who uses them?? I can see tucking a tissue or lipstick in it, but your hand??

Really - either Steve or Belinda could have gone, but definitely saw more improvement in Steve since yesterday. Nice that he gets a second chance.
Fable
Okay, the person in charge of that horrible idea of a dance off needs to be fired, IMMEDIATELY!!!

This format is pathetic. Now instead of watching an encore of what was usually an entertaining and good dance, we get to watch the two of the worst dances. Excellent idea!!! NOT!!

...and how did I know it would be a tie? Seriously!
sab85
Uh, show, WHERE was my big opening pro dance? That is seriously my favorite part of every season and the part that I re-watch regularly.

The Tony/Cheryl, Mark/Lacey, Julianne/Derek and Chelsie/Dimitri dances, while lovely, aren't going to cut it.
WaltzinSpringTm
What was that huge pause from Samantha when the bottom two were revealed. She started talking and then nothing. At least 2 seconds passed before she picked up.

Not a surprising bottom two. Belinda all but said you know I'm totally fine with going home, I don't want to do this anymore. I don't think she enjoyed it.
sweetpd7
I guess it was time for Belinda to go - go. Frankly, there was little improvement in either dance from an extra day of practice. The dance-off was a waste of time and space. Cameron is funny and hunky. Enjoyed the dances and Jewel has such a lovely voice. Steve Woz bothers me and I hope he's next, because as Bruno emphasized, he can't dance.
thethinman
First off. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy routine with the pros. GREAT!!!!! Felt like old times. As far as the Macy's Stars of Dance. I hope this isn't Mickey Rooney's kid day job because that sucked big time. Why do they feel they have to do these routines out of house when they have world class ballroom dancers in house? Jewel number. Okay. Dmitri and Chelsea. Okay. The dance off? Again what is the point of the judges scores if they are still counting viewer votes? It doesn't work.
va32h
Samantha's pockets were incredibly distracting. It's one thing to even have pockets in an evening gown but to keep sticking your hands in them....she's not hanging out on the corner she's hosting a show for God's sake.

Does the world really need yet another interpretation of Over the Rainbow? It would seem that Chelsie and Dmitry were performing an Ode to So You Think You Can Dance, what with his bare chest and her bare feet.
kimmykaybee
I am not disappointed that Belinda went. I thought Jonathan was very respectful towards his partner and genuinely liked her.

Samantha - who has a ballgown with pockets?? Who uses them?? I can see tucking a tissue or lipstick in it, but your hand??

I know. Seriously.

I liked the pro dance between Dmitri and Chelsea, I thought it was very sweet.
harvestbasket
While the opening dance number was fun, I wish it had all the pros. But I loved it as well as Chelsie and Dmitry's dance. I wish Dmitry had a better partner or rather Jewel did not get injured. Somewhere Mary Murphy is crying over no more Dmitry on SYTYCD. One show's loss is another's gain, Mary :) Chelsie seemed to be wearing Brooke's waltz's dress from last season. It looked great on her. Though they seem to be recycling more dresses this season.

Mark K. sighting! Did not care for the routine though. I did not know he was dancing in the Macy's Stars of Dance. I wanted a brief Marksie reunion. I also saw the other Chelsey from SYTYCD as well in that number.

The dance off was boring and I had a feeling Belinda was going home no matter the score. Jonathan was hilarious in that last bumper before they revealed the elimination.

Denise's confessional that aired in the recap special was incredibly annoying. The Maksie-poo is already annoying, but something about how she was annoyed by her combined score bugged.
Zox
Don't generally like the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, but Jewel did a good job, and Dmitry and Chelsie were HOT. But was she barefoot? That detracted a little for me. Her dress seemed to be the dress Brooke wore last season? Couldn't they find her someone else's shoes in her size if they were keen on recycling costumes? Oh it just occurred to me... maybe in heels she's too tall to partner with Dmitry...?

Sam had pockets on her dress. Weird.

I loved Bruno's addled paddles. And his comment about 250 episodes...

Not really sorry to see Belinda go, but overall this was a somewhat bland show, even with the dance off.
mcryan

Very good point Fable.

And another thing...when are they going to start giving the results a few minutes earlier? I really don't like waiting til the last second. Tonight they just ran over and seemed to let the pair have their say, but I'm sure as the season goes on they will rush them to the credits. People ARE interested in what the booted team has to say. Give them a couple minutes!
EagerContrarian
I loved the Jewel/Dimitry/Chelsie number, more of that please!

Also, any other SYTYCD fans note Chelsea Traille in the Macy's number?
harvestbasket
EagerContrarian, I saw her as well. Thank you tivo as I went back to make sure it was her. Mark and Chelsea deserved a better routine though.

Non-SYTYCD sighting- I think Winona Judd was in the audience.

ETA: EagerContrarian, that's okay. It was easy to miss. The camera barely panned to him. I only looked out for him because I saw him in the rehearsal clip. You barely see him until the end in the actual performance.
EagerContrarian
I didn't notice Mark - I'll have to go back and look again. No offense, but that sort of sums up what I thought of Mark.
officetemp
The only thing the dance-off was good for was psychological torture. Way to go, PsTB, for making the bottom two feel even worse than they already did!

Actually, I was kind of surprised that Woz was in the bottom two. I thought that all of nerd-dom was voting their fingers off for him. Also, am I correct in assuming that, except for the bottom two, the stars weren't necessarily ranked in the order in which they were named safe?

Liked Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the accompanying pro number; liked Jewel with Chelsie and Dmitry. Thought the Macy's Stars of Dance "Updated" Tribute to Busby Berkley number was a mess. It looked pretty much as if whoever was in charge told the dancers, "Okay, just go out on the floor and do whatever." No coherence to that number at all.

What are next week's dances?
mcryan
Non-SYTYCD sighting- I think Winona Judd was in the audience.

I saw some orange bangs and thought "Wynona Judd!". For some reason I've really always liked her hair. Is she friendly with anyone in the cast or is she being recruited for an upcoming season?
Flabbergasted
Dmitry/Chelsie/Jewel was awesome! The highlight of the show for me.
MoxyMissi
The more I see of Chuck, the more he reminds me of *shudders* Spencer Pratt. "Hey everyone! I have a Hot Girlfriend! Isn't she HOTT?!?! And I'm Definitely Not Gay. At All. Because I have a Hot Girlfriend."
lovemaks
WTH Where was the pro number? This result show format was worse than horrible. Maks Karina, Edyta Kym and Jonathan did not even get to dance. But wait we got to see the worst two dances again???? Whose bad idea was this? hate it hate it hate it.

They better not do this again. The Macy's thing was so long. I def would have preferred the other pro dancers. I am so sick of this focus on the young ones. Ugh. Seriously I don't know that I can watch this show anymore.
mcryan

The results show has always been the "weakest link" for me. Unless there's a musical act I'm intersted in I just pop over now and then while watching other shows or surfing the net. Sometimes I like the pro dances but usually not. I do like to the pros from the cast dance together though. The big musical numbers usually disappoint.
MDKNIGHT
I think the new format is particularly humiliating for the eliminated party. If they get a higher judges score and still get eliminated it rubs salt in the wound that it is the people rally really not liking them that is to blame. That is unecessary.

I thought that the idea was going to be that the judges could save sombebody if they were in the bottom two and that they thought it would come in handy if somebody like Sabrina fell to the bottom two. However since it turns out the viewer votes count, it doesn't actually do anything, so it is useless.

Also I agree with the fact that it subjects us to more bad dancing. Why didn't anybody think this through?
WaltzinSpringTm
MoxiMissi I don't know Spencer Pratt except thru the tabloids but if that who he is like, that's Chuck alright. I love EW Annie's comments about him too - how the salsa is girlie and it's much more manly to heartily whack your girlfriend's ass.

I am very happy that the featured pros were Chelsea and Dmitry - not particularly a Dmitry fan but I like Chelsea and I think she's been virtually ignored (while Lacey was given the spotlight from day one). However I am so fucking sick of the rumba being the pro couple dance. I have seen enough pro couple rumbas to last me ninety years. Enough already. Do a fox trot!!
LReeses
People ARE interested in what the booted team has to say. Give them a couple minutes! -- mcryan

Agreed that I'm interested in what the eliminated couple has to say, but not when Samantha is doing the questioning:

Belinda: I want to say thank you to Jonathan. He is a wonderful teacher. (something like that)
Samantha: Is there anything you'd like to say to Jonathan?

I thought it was cute that Jewel sang while Dmitry (her former partner) and Chelsie (her husband's partner) danced. Nice symmetry.

I also agree that the Stars of Dance was horrid tonight. I muted it halfway through. Where's the pro-dance?! I still watch the one they did to "Let Me Entertain You."

DAG was hilarious in his interviews, but I worry that he's ostracizing viewers who don't understand his humor and think he's just an ass. Chuck, however, is just an ass. He and Julianne can leave at any time.
harvestbasket
I thought that the idea was going to be that the judges could save sombebody if they were in the bottom two and that they thought it would come in handy
I thought this was also an attempt to get rid of a Cloris or Master P if they fell in the bottom 2. It does nothing for Marie types, who even if you do not like their dancing, they are getting votes so viewers like them. She would avoid the bottom 2 and never fear being sent packing. I hate this dance off format. It is humiliating and why see bad dances yet again.

Dmitry and Chelsie getting the spotlight was fantastic. I like Dmitry and felt he bad since not only did he lose his partner, but he did not even get an introduction last week. I like Chelsie too so I felt their dance was a great spotlight dance for them.

However I am so fucking sick of the rumba being the pro couple dance. I have seen enough pro couple rumbas to last me ninety years. Enough already. Do a fox trot!!
Yes, please! I am tired of rumbas, jives and cha chas as the default pro dance. TPTB, foxtrots can be just as lovely and entertaining.

Maybe it's just me, but in one of the video clips they showed of Karina/Steve after their dance, it looked like Karina had cried. I do not blame her if she did and for having to put up with Steve Woz.
sweetpd7
Tell me this dance off thing won't be a weekly feature. I really didn't want to watch these two dance again. And as it's been mentioned, the encore is a lot more upbeat and fun than watch the worst dancers rinse and repeat. This idea won't be any fun until mid season and the dancers are better at the bottom, and then it will still be excrutiating and possibly, humiliating.
TheAnglican
Dmitry and Chelsie were good, although "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is a bit weird for rhumba music.

The Macy's Stars of Dance number was a big hot mess. What about that, exactly, was an homage to Busby Berkeley? I was kind of hoping for something like the overhead geometric shots of legs. Admittedly, the dang thing went on so long that I wandered over and unloaded the dishwasher in the middle of it. So I may have missed some iconic Berkeley imagery.

How many other superior dancers can Woz's fanbase pick off?
Zox
I agree that at this stage the dance off just subjects us to the worst dances all over again, but it could be interesting when the Houghs have to dance off to see which one goes home first?

On another note, why was there no Pro Number? It's bad enough that they made us wait what I thought was two shows for it, but to give us a macy number with people who mean nothing to me? and no pros? Grrrrr.
Fellaway
Reasonable Bottom 2 based on the first two weeks' worth of dances, and I'm okay with Belinda being the one sent home. Though, if I had my druthers, it'd have been Woz/Karina because, both Woz and Karina are injured, I think we'd have seen more improvement over the season with Belinda (if she applied herself) than we'll see with Woz, and I just plain like Jonathan better as a celeb's partner.

My initial reaction to the Dance-Off is make it stop! The judges pretty much took themselves out of the equation anyway with those scores, and, really, the whole thing seems so... undignified. And, like others, I'd rather see an encore of the best dance than repeats of two of the worst.
spanana
I liked the opening pro number a lot, but I agree it's very odd to start a season without a group dance from all the pros. It was also nice to see the new pros featured, but again, I want my group dance!

No surprises on who went home. But I actually wasn't expecting Woz to be in the bottom. I thought he was getting loads of fan support.

I do agree the dance off is stupid. I'd rather the judges just straight up decide who is going home if they are going to go through all of that. I also agree it's stupid to highlight the worst dancers instead of highlighting the good dancers.

I saw Mark and Chelsea Traille, but too bad I didn't care about the dance.
O2Sean
How many other superior dancers can Woz's fanbase pick off?

I would have been happy if Woz had left, but I don't think Belinda was superior. I also don't know if Woz has proven to have much of a fanbase. I was shocked he was in the bottom two, he seemed very well-received by the public last week, before the weird comments and the foot injury.

I don't mind the dance-off, under some circumstances. It did seem pointless tonight.

Was this supposed to be the group dance? Most of the pros were involve, and I did enjoy it, but I missed seeing Kym, Maks, Jonathan.

Do Big Bad Voodoo Daddy have a new hit? I haven't heard of them for ten years now. They seemed a bit rough tonight. Actually, everyone seemed somewhat disoriented. Was it me or did Tom seem very disjointed tonight? What was going on?

I don't know why they decided to make fun of Shannon Elizabeth, but I did laugh.
Tasya
Loved the opening pro number to BBVD. Not so much the Jewel one. Why were they barefoot and bare chested (although Dmitry, yum) to a slow song like that? It wasn't a good dance or styling choice. They should have done something a bit more elegant than the Rhumba.

The bottom two format absolutely sucks. Either get rid of it or make some change to it, I don't know what they could do but god. I don't want to have to sit through watching the worse couples again. I guess though that when it's later in the season, the bottom two won't be as bad so it will improve.
tip and fall
I don't know why they decided to make fun of Shannon Elizabeth, but I did laugh.

I missed the first half of the show. What was the joke?
rue bee
Don't generally like the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Blasphemy!!! What's next? You don't like puppies and apple pie?! ;)

I think the match-ups this year are off, except for Gilles/Cheryl, Lacey/Steve-O, Derek/LK, Mark/Shawn and Melissa/Tony (and that was a fluke that TPTB get no credit for). There's very little chemistry for the rest of the pairings. I would have paired them up differently: Woz with Edyta, LT with Kym, Chuck with Karina (Julianne coaching her own boyfriend is just dumb), Ty with Julianne, DAG with Chelsea, Holly with Jonathan and Belinda with Dmitry.

Woz seems to enjoy this more than Belinda, so for that alone, I like how it played out.
O2Sean
I missed the first half of the show. What was the joke?

Cameron Mathison was talking about various methods he would suggest people use to do well on the show, with the joke being how ridiculous they were. One was taunting and psyching Shawn out backstage. The next was a clip of Shannon weeping in that infamous confessional, followed by Cameron weeping and wailing.
Ty with Julianne

Oh God no! Sorry but I can't take her with anyone I like. I think Ty's doing OK with Chelsie so far. They were great last night. I think DAG, Woz, and Lawrence would be about the same as they are now with anyone.

Usually only a few pairings a year have chemistry, so this is about the same or slightly more than usual.

I had very low expectations after last season, but so far I'm enjoying it.
harvestbasket
Interesting new pairings, rue bee.

I thought he was getting loads of fan support.
Well, according to Woz. Thankfully, the dance off is only suppose to last for the first few weeks. Of course that is when you have the worst dancing. I really thought this was suppose to be like an Albert Reed/Paulina P. rule to keep those with potential but small fan bases to stick around.
I don't know why they decided to make fun of Shannon Elizabeth, but I did laugh.
I missed the first half of the show. What was the joke?
You would have laughed as well, tip. It was part of Cameron Matheson's taped segment about how to survive on the show. He mentioned crying in the confessionals and they cut to a glimpse of weeping Shannon with the tissue box in her hands. She is the poster child for weeping confessionals and it was funny. I thought of her as soon as Cameron said crying in confessional. I will not be surprised though if Denise takes over the reigns as the weepy confessional star this season.

Unintentionally funny moment for me was the celebs mentioning their Playboy month and concluding with Holly listing off all the months she appeared. At least she did not have her giggle at the end.
O2Sean
Did any of you see Chris Harrison in the audience? They showed after Woz and Karina danced. Was that his wife beside him?

That song used for the Macy's number, "The Boy Does Nothing", was by Alesha Dixon, who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2007. I can't remember if they mentioned that or not.
tip and fall

Well...it looks like Karina is taking his advice to heart! Girl's a sobbing mess in the confessionals.

(Yeah, I know the confessionals were taped before this segment was shown.)
oakgal
I don't know how they manage to make the show feel really long yet at the same time, go over time. It's a gift.....that infuriates me!

I missed the big Pro number too. It's the one thing I look forward to on the results show. Damn.

The Big Bad Voodoo Daddy jive was fun, but I'd have liked to have seen all the Pros.

The Macys Stars of Dance dance was a mess as others have already noted. How on earth was that Busby Berkley-esque?? Seriously, how? It was confusing, erratic and reminded me of a bad number by the Pussycat Dolls more than anything else. (I also spotted Chelsea Traille but I only noted Mark K. in the rehearsal footage. Weird.)

Not surprised to see Belinda go. I still really like her but she seemed defeated by it and really off her game. I know she lives in France and watches the UK show, I think she would have done better on that series instead of this one.

I abhor this Dance-off nonsense. What a waste of time.

What was that huge pause from Samantha when the bottom two were revealed. She started talking and then nothing. At least 2 seconds passed before she picked up.

It's Samantha. She was probably about to announce the loser or something. She is just awful. I am still amazed she is employed. It boggles the mind.

Jewel should not sing OtR. Ever. Talk about over-singing it. The rumba was okay, most notable for Dmitry's trademark open shirt. It was nice to see that make a return appearance! Dmitry is awesome.
Elsa
Oooo I loved the rumba with Dmitry and Chelsie. They're both a breath of fresh air, compared with our triplets. Well, I'm still ok with Mark (just because I still think he's sexy and imo he's more humble) but the other two are on my last nerve. Please go work on your singing career, Julianne. PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I've been thinking Jewel was a pissant, but I thought she did a wonderful job with Somewhere Over the Rainbow. That song's a bitch to sing! So you go, girl - I'll try to chill on the bitching about that snarky smile of yours. And she looked so sweet and friendly with Dmitry and Chelsie - I just feel better about her all the way round. But she really doesn't have to show up every week -- couldn't she be getting her legs fixed?

I wanted Woz to go but Belinda did look a bit beleaguered, poor thing. And Jonathan just won some big title, didn't he? At least the worst two celeb dancers were in the dance-off. And that surprised me after Woz (and Karina) bragged about how massive his fanbase is, and I was thinking Belinda might have a lot of fans in the age-group that predominates in DwtS' demos. I was on pins and needles worrying about Dmitry (uh, and Holly.) I'm so glad she didn't have to go lightly. :)

I'm really looking forward to next week - this is a good season for me - despite going south in my opinion of Makarina & Woz. I haven't been a fan for long though, so so what. Better to find a new fresh face to love (Dmitry & Chelsie!) and start to look forward to waving adieu to some sourpuss pro's - here's hoping, anyway. But YES, Julianne, I'm sure you can do as good as Jewel, with that superstar Upchuck by your side (yeah right)
JenMD
I only noted Mark K. in the rehearsal footage.
There's good shot of him sitting in the audience when the camera cuts to the guys (he's on the left), then he's pretty much buried in the back on the left once they're on the floor. He's the one in the shiny lavender pants/purple shirt. Not that I watched it more than once or anything. ;-)

Loved, loved, loved the Dmitry/Chelsie number. That running leap was just so lovely. Also enjoyed the pro number to BBVD at the beginning. Would have love a big, splashy number featuring everybody, though. Hopefully we'll get one in the future.
WaltzinSpringTm
Belinda was the correct bootee. Woz is no dancer but at least he's bringing a modicum of drama between Karina's weepiness and his male Marissa Winoker-ness and blogging. Belinda was just feeble in every respect and snce the first dance she's given me the impression that not only was she genuinely fine with the scores, fine with how things went, but she was MORE than fine with leaving. I almost wondered if she was trying to say that all along and couldn't. She was also really bad.
LReeses
The camera cue-ing was off tonight, too. When they were announcing that one couple (Gilles/Cheryl, I think) was safe, the camera showed Ty/Chelsie. Then they announced that Ty/Chelsie were safe but the camera was on Steve-O/Lacey. So naturally, the next couple to be called safe was Steve-O/Lacey. I don't know what was going on, but I'm going to go ahead and blame Samantha.

Also, I'm not a big fan of Karina, but this made me laugh:

Woz: Vote for us! But don't cheat...
Karina: ...... CHEAT!
Lady V
I can't blame Belinda for wanting to leave. The comparisons made to Cloris Leachman and Priscilla Presley have to really hurt, and oh my god the va jay jay in her partner's face was more Cloris-like than ever.

I really wish people would just lay off the plastic surgery, or, at the very least, only hire Susan Lucci's surgeon. It's just, for the most part, pitiful. The sad thing is, when they don't, they are criticized for being too wrinkly or jowly. Enough already. Real boobs of all sizes, actual non blown up lips, eyes that crinkle, eyebrows that actually move are far more beautiful than this robot-mess so many are becoming, and she wasn't even that old.

So sad. I picture her seeing herself on this show and just cringing...being voted off is a damn blessing.

As far as Woz's fan support? Well, his fans are computer people supposedly, and probably read more blogs than most. His blog is just ugly...so his support is hopefully waning. I am glad he looks like he is having fun, even if his blog is almost all sour grapes and finger pointing, and I am glad he has lost 40 pounds. Now he can go home.
gryphon
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy routine with the pros. GREAT!!!!!

I think this was the highlight of the night for me. I love it when the pros dance with each other. I only saw part of Jewel's over-sung rainbow so I missed a bit of the dance and saw the last hold that looked like a traditional "prom hang" to me.

The thing that surprises me the most about Belinda--she doesn't dance well. She seems to be missing some musicality and she shouldn't--with her background and all...who knew.
Elsa
Someone upthread thought Chelsie might be too tall for Dmitry and that's why she was barefoot -- but he's 6'1" and she claims 5'2" (and may be shorter.) I think the bare feet had to do with all the leaping and jumping -- pretty treacherous in heels I think.
O2Sean
I wasn't that surprised about Belinda's lack of musicality because she didn't do any dancing in the Go-Gos. They weren't a dancing band, even if they sang about having the beat. They swung their hips sometimes, and they rode fake water skis.

I was more surprised that she had such a subdued personality.

They need to get Jane Wiedlin on this show. She can probably move.
