Zap2it:
Clark discovers that Lana is missing; Tess reveals what really happened to Lana when she woke up from her Brainiac-induced coma; Tess is shocked by what she discovers in a secret LuthorCorp facility.

Fuck this show.
Trevacious Guy
I knew it.

No, you've never wanted to be a distraction, Lana, you only wanted to be the Main Attraction. (Or such did the DOMOS want you to be.)

"And now, they're going to boff in the air...!"
CantThinkUpName
Dude. Bwahahahah. That X-Ray scene was the funniest scene I've seen on this show in years.

So Power stands for Girl Power! Take back the night ladies!! Teana 4ever!!

Am I the only one seeing the screwed up framing on the opening sequence with "Uperman created by Erry" and Oliver played by "Justin Harte"?

"Dipping your fingers in the past..." Damn Clark. Super fingers indeed

Lana Begins was another really stupid episode.

Her montage training was so bad. I don't know if that scene in the bathroom was supposed to be "look how heroic and awesome she is!" but all I could think was (in a bad Lana voice) "I cut three inches off my hair! Now no one will recognize me!"

I don't know if anyone watches Conan O'Brien but every once in awhile he'll do an "On The Aisle" segment where he reviews movies. One of the common jokes is editing the "scene" so that people staring quietly lasts endlessly. Tonight's On The Aisle moment was after watching the video Clark says "Lana wants to use the suit on herself!" Other than that being painfully obvious, they cut to Clark staring for a long time and then Chloe (with her stupid hat) staring even longer. At least for me.

So Chloe's only purpose was to exposit for both Lana and Clark. Anything about Jimmy or how she feels with the Brainiac thing? Any thing about her at all? Not even a line from Lana about "I would have expected you to be writing on the RBB" (does she know Chloe got fired?).

Tess really has issues to work on. And it's funny because of how fake the the corn syrup on the window looked. Also, when she stared at the statue before using it Clockwork Orange style, I imagined her thinking "Hey! That statute has a penis!" Anything on the merger? The important Queen/Luthor merger? Did I miss it?

I'm kind of disappointed Dr. Aliens Lumburg wasn't on the show sooner.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. Did they recast Lex?
PolarB
Man, I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong, but not like this. Not like this.
cmirk01
I couldn't believe Clark had the gall to lay it into Chloe because she was keep something private between herself and what Lana specifically requested of her. Did he not learn a single thing from their exact conversation in Hydro?! And if that wasn't ridiculous enough, I mean seriously, drowning on about keeping secrets when he is one to talk considering he mind raped Chloe himself.

The last shot was fucking hilarious, I'll keep saying it, Lois who?
acampbell
I dreaded it.

I knew it would be bad.

But "Power" reached whole new, epic heights of FAIL!!!!

It's not even worth responding to.

And, BTW, Allison Mack is a crap director.

I knew they were gonna go there with the Super Sex. But, actually, I thought Clark was gonna save it there, at the last minute. But, no...one thing about SV, they always do the worst possible thing. Hoped they wouldn't, but they did.

Beyond Epic Fail. Almost worse than "Promise." No, wait, that's impossible.

I feel sick.
Writing Wrongs
Apart from Tess, this episode made me want to throw up.

And why isn't Chloe with her husband?

I love how The Talon still says "Silent Film Festival" in one shot and "Karaoke...something" in the next.
Trevacious Guy
Oh yeah, Mad Science!

Best scene? Kent farmhouse, where Chloe finds Clark doing the usual, and...

*click* Bwahaha, YES! Chloe speaks for me! Oh, I miss this Chloe.
Munchiewoman
I think I just threw up in my mouth.
chlarkspuffy
So, was there or was there not Clana sex? I'm confused.
jediknight
I said it after "Wrath" and I'll say it again, Lana's batshit crazy. The woman's insane. She wants the suit for herself, because she can do good. And what's different from the last time, is that she prepared herself. Seriously she's batshit crazy, at least Clark realized it, for a second. But of course he forgets it, because Lana is perfect.

This episode suck-diddily-ucked. And that's being nice.
Nori
Are they trying to tell me this bitch can't even die now. Seriously. And I'm really not buying Lana as the superhero type, considering she couldn't pull her head out of her own ass long enough to see how her best friend was doing with the comatose husband thing. God, Clark and Lana superheroing together. The world is so screwed.
acampbell
So, was there or was there not Clana sex? I'm confused.

I had the impression that was where they were going. "You can't hurt me, Clark," blah, blah, supersexcakes.

Even my daughter, who isn't in SV fandom and who watched with me, is complaining: "I feel sick..."
Daystra
And, BTW, Allison Mack is a crap director.

I disagree, from a Directorial aspect I thought the episode was done very well, It's the storyline that just sucks ass.

I have to admit, Chloe did 180, she went from, showing concern for Lois, to almost Clana cheerleader again.
wwg23
Hahaha! What a mess! Forty-five minutes of finding out what Lana's been up to for the last 7 months - complete with a scene on how she hacks her hair off. Yeah. Whatever.

Who needs Superman? It's a cheerleader! It's a model! It's Super!Suit!

Sadly, we'll repeat the idiocy in "Stiletto" with Super!Shoe.
Lantern7
Check, please!

Honestly, if this show goes on for a ninth season, programming directors from the CW should be hurt. Badly. "Power" looks like a 21th century version of a Fifties comic cover where Lana or Lois gets super powers in order to get closer to Superman.

Really, is there any way this could move forward from this position? I really can't see it. Really, bring on the two-hour blocks of Supernatural, like, yesterday.
acampbell
Maybe I was too harsh (the episode made me do it!) but she just seemed to be using the same shots over and over, and spent too much time bashing Lex, & telling us stuff we already knew.

Maybe it wasn't her fault, but it was all beyond awful.
Trevacious Guy
"Money means nothing to me." That's because you've never had to make any, Lana.

No, dude, Lana's not a soldier. Lana eats soldiers for lunch.

"I wanna be invincible." Haha, as if you weren't already, Lana. I suppose, some days, a world of kneeling genuflection just doesn't satisfy... :\
El Seed
"Did something happen that made you forget?" Shit, I wish I could forget this episode. Wow did that suck. The effects were laughably bad, and that end shot? "I think I'm going to throw up." Me too.

And did Tess refer to Lex as a bear? The 'Yay' lives however briefly.

Oh, and Clark? STFU. Seriously.

Fail, fail, a thousand times fail.
Firebunny
Okay, Lana's all bat shit crazy with her whisper voice and glazed eye stare and Clark's turned on?

I thought AM did a pretty good job with the directing, but she went overboard just a tad bit with the artsy fartsy. Of course the script went overboard with the fartsy, but that's what happens on Smallville.
wingster55
Things in the script are pretty much beyond her control.
PolarB
and spent too much time bashing Lex, & telling us stuff we already knew.

I know directors have a lot of power, but she is working from a prepared script. I doubt they'd let a first-time director make major plot/dialogue changes. AM would likely have only been working with what she was given.
Daystra
Did they cut a Chlark scene in this episode, IIRC there were promo pics of Chlark at the talon alone, unless of course it was only of her as a director...

This episode was extremely anti-climatic, she got the suit, now she wants to be all, heroic. I swear for all the stuff they could have had Lana do, they decided to make her arc a sequel to the episode Wrath.
Trevacious Guy
The director is not the writer or producer.
Darth Pipes
It was a fairly interesting story until Clark got pathetic at the end. I've said it before but it's important for his character to be the one to end the relationship with Lana. But I have no faith the writers will allow him to do so.

Clark annoyed me once again when he got in Chloe's face for not telling him about Lana. So, Clark...have you told Chloe about mind raping her yet? Chloe didn't tell you about Lana but it's not like...you know...she wiped away your memory!

Tess was smokin hot. Some good action here, like with Lana escaping. Nice to see Regan again although letting Tess stare at that heavy object for 90 minutes before she picked it up is what got him killed. Great kill scene though.

I think Allison Mack did a good job as the director. It's not her fault she was given a storyline that has completely derailed this season of Smallville.

Exactly!!!! If Lana has been skirting around the batshit crazy before, she's swimming in it now. When Clark first walked out onto to roof, he was talking to her like he knew she had gone off the deep end, and then he totally forgot it as soon as she started batting her eyes and smiling at him with the shit eating grin of hers. I swear she looked like she was trying to figure out which voice in her head she was listening to. Guh, this episode was beyong terrible.
Nostariel
I forgot it was Thursday (or maybe my subconscious was sparing me the pain? I did suddenly recall the proper date right before SPN came on) and missed tonight's episode.

So, was this "So bad even the funny recaps can't save it" or "So bad the skewering will be hilarious"?
wwg23
Lana prepared her body but she lost her mind.

ETA: It's "So bad even the funny recaps can't save it" hands down.
Toga88
"So bad the skewering will be hilarious" - Definitely.
Daystra

This reminded me of that scene of Lex killing Dr. Langston in Promise.

This episode, I don't know, last week was boring, this one was anti-climatic, and now Lana wants to be a freaking hero.

God this episode is crazy.
cmirk01
I disagree, from a Directorial aspect I thought the episode was done very well, It's the storyline that just sucks ass.

Ditto. From a directorial stand point, Allison managed to juggle all the effects, and seamlessly wove between perspectives like a pro. I loved the camera angels, and the lighting in particular in this one. The last scene (as cringeworthy as it was) was shot beautifully. I don't particular find Lana all that interesting, but I find episodes that attempt to divulge in backstories slightly interesting in comparison to let's say episodes full of contrived stupid hijinks (Stilleto here we come). Now if we're talking about boring episodes that simply dragged on, one doesn't have to look far to find a prime example: Bulletproof.
chlarkspuffy

Thanks for the clarification.

With her classic theme song blaring in the background at all times, spelling out to all that Everything she does is Beautiful, and Right...
Daystra

But wouldn't that mean, she'll have to take the suit off, for she's wearing the suit that gives her powers, it's not like she was genetically enhanced. Right?
lovesflicks
So I wasted a whole goddamn hour watching Lana Lang give life lessons to everybody. Jesus Christ, I feel like I have the flu from this fucking episode.

This is the Lana Lang Chronicles and there is no going back. She is the Empress who knows all and is flawless in every way.

She's tamed Tess, made Clark a nutsack-less pussy again and is now a superhero.

Wow, just when the show can't sink any further I'm proven wrong. Clark was a supporting character in this episode chasing Miss Perfect all over the goddamn place because "Lana is the most important person EVAH."

Get this, my mom was watching too and hates Lana already.

I KNEW Clark would backslide with her around and I was right. All the progress he made is now gone.

I threw up in my mouth during that kiss. Horrible, horrible to watch and comprehend.

Why isn't Chloe at her husband's bedside at least ACTING like a concerned wife? She seems pretty perky for someone with a husband that has life-threatening injuries.

I give Power an F. No, fuck that it doesn't deserve a grade.
Powrhug
I really liked the guy who trained Lana and wouldn't mind seeing more of him! Anyone catch his name? I was too busy thinking "I really like the guy who's training Lana" to catch it.
Toga88
With her classic theme song blaring in the background at all times, spelling out to all that Everything she does is Wonderful, and Right...

Correction - "Everything she does is Beautiful." :)

Vomit.
Trevacious Guy
So, was this "So bad even the funny recaps can't save it" or "So bad the skewering will be hilarious"?

Oh, I'm sure it can be Both. It can be all things to all people, just like Lana!
Writing Wrongs
I'm confused. Is she wearing an actual suit? I thought it was all ingrained in her skin or something. Wasn't that why she was in the liquid?
DigiKing
But wouldn't that mean, she'll have to take the suit off, for she's wearing the suit that gives her powers, it's not like she was genetically enhanced. Right?
I thought so too, until they had her wear that knee-length dress with no sleeves and there were no black sleeves or leggings poking out from under it. Now I'm just confused.
PolarB
Is she wearing an actual suit? I thought it was all ingrained in her skin or something.

It was grafted onto her skin, so it's like a second layer. In other words, she's more or less been technologically enhanced and she can't take it off.
Trevacious Guy
I thought so too, until they had her wear that knee-length dress with no sleeves and there were no black sleeves or leggings poking out from under it. Now I'm just confused.

I believe I heard them say, "dermal evisceration." They took her skin off and replaced it with the nano-neener-suit.
BigKev47
I didn't actually HATE this episode... The show has won a lot of goodwill from me this season, and even KK hasn't been bothering me that much since she's come back, because she seems to have a little bit more purpose to the story now...

That said, it was still a Lana episode. I was really excited to see AM's name in the credits as director, becuase... I mean, yay for her!... but at the same time I knew that meant the episode would be Chloe light.

And the fact that she was directing made the episode a lot more watchable for me, because I stopped paying much attention to the shit plot and focused instead on the technical stuff all "Great transition Allie!", "Nice lens choice!", etc.
FreddyO
Good gosh, that was horrible. This makes two weeks in a row of crap, crap, and more crap from this so-called television show. Without knowing what Allison did or did not have to work with, it's impossible for me to grade her. The episode was so utterly pathetic that I really didn't pay much attention to it. Just had it playing in the background. That's a sure sign I'm losing interest - big time. Why in God's name I ever thought these writers were clever enough to end this series on a logical note is beyond me. They lured me in with 3 great episodes in a row, but then revert back to form with 2 more crappers. I don't see much in upcoming weeks to keep me excited. This one surely deserves an "F".
Daystra
I thought so too, until they had her wear that knee-length dress with no sleeves and there were no black sleeves or leggings poking out from under it. Now I'm just confused.

Thank god, I wasn't the only one.

It was grafted onto her skin, so it's like a second layer. In other words, she's more or less been technologically enhanced and she can't take it off.

That does make sense, thank you. :)

Also what was up with Lana being compared to a phoenix? Isn't that supposed to be Chloe?

Speaking of Chloe, again why is she still in Metropolis while her husband is in Star City? Also what's with the hair cap hat?

As a Chloiser, this episode made me worry, for I can't shake the feeling that they want to give life to the Chloe=ILLang theory.
Femvamp2009
Honestly I kinda like crazy dark Lana. Yes the dialog was cringe worthy but the acting wasn't bad and I kinda get what Lana is trying to do and go. As far as Lana episodes go (and I'm grading on a curve) this one wasn't all that bad.

Clark did annoy me though. Where does he get off getting angry at Chloe for keeping secrets? Like she's never kept any for him. Its kinda one of her superpowers. its kinda why she lost her job at the Planet (besides the who Lex thing- what kind of reporter can't report on the things that need to be reported on?) Anyway Clark is a jerk sometimes.
El Seed
I have to admit, Chloe did 180, she went from, showing concern for Lois, to almost Clana cheerleader again.

Clana supercedes everything, including logic, continuity, and sanity.

I'm confused. Is she wearing an actual suit? I thought it was all ingrained in her skin or something. Wasn't that why she was in the liquid?

It's grafted on, so she's enhanced, just not genetically.

ETA: PolarB beat me to it.
acampbell
Remember how pleased most of us were to see the door hit AlMiles' collective backsides? and how we hoped the emphasis on Lana would fade? Remember what high hopes we had early in the season that Clark would be smart, strong, proactive?

*bitter*
Trevacious Guy
Also what's with the hair cap hat?

Directors don't have time to fuss over their hair. :) It was cute.
