If you were a fan of MTV's now defunct reality show featuring Rob Dyrdek and his bodyguard and friend, Big Black, tune into Fantasy Factory. Premiering Sunday, February 8th at 9PM, the show, the premise of which I admittedly don't understand, will feature Rob, his cousin Drama, and a bunch of guest stars (Jackass' Johnny Knoxville) in a building called "The Fantasy Factory". Housed within the building is an awesome skate plaza/Rob's office. Expect a bunch of crazy things to happen, as is customary with Rob and his crew.

Check out the official website: Fantasy Factory. Also cool is the fact that the show's theme song sounds like something written by Rob himself. If you watched R&B, you know that Rob was often belting out cheesy songs he had thought of off the top of his head. The show's theme sounds just like one of those, but set to actual music. It's awesome and appropriately catchy.

ETA: Apparently the theme song is by a band called Aldo Nova. So Rob didn't write it, but I'm sure he could have. ;) Also, I don't know if it's healthy for me to be so excited for the possibility of a cartoon based on Rob, Meaty and their friends.

Shucks, and I wanted to start the thread. Anyway, here's the description I found on Futon Critic:

ROB DYRDEK'S FANTASY FACTORY- 9:00PM ET/PT

After the success of "Rob & Big," ingenious skateboarder Rob Dyrdek is ready to become the Willy Wonka of Skateboarding in, "Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory." The Fantasy Factory is a 25,000 square foot industrial-complex-turned-funhouse designed to expand the reaches of Rob's skateboard empire, known as Dyrdek Enterprises. The heart of the Fantasy Factory is Rob's office that sits atop the world's first indoor concrete skate plaza -- a place where anything Rob imagines can become reality. Rob continues to chase down his dreams in his own outlandish way, whether strapping on bouncy stilts to take on Lakers' Lamar Odom in a game of one-on-one basketball(a potential investor for Rob's co-owned restaurant), or enlisting longtime friend and skateboarding superstar Danny Way to help break the world's land-speed record on a skateboard. Rob's cousin Drama returns as Rob's nave, beat-upon whipping boy and personal assistant. As Rob fills his new digs with zip-lines, foam pits, skate ramps, and a "T Rex" (a cross between the Batmobile and a Stormtrooper), Rob will also look to fellow action sports friends, including Travis Pastrana, Paul Rodriguez, Steve Berra, Ken Block and Danny Way, to help him on his journey to make as many fantasies as he can come true.

Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory is executive produced by Jeff Tremaine, Rob Dyrdek, Ruben Fleisher, and Shane Nickerson. Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley and Lauren Dolgen are the MTV executives in charge of production.

If you're new and have accidently stumbled upon this thread, I have to say this: watch the show. Yes, Big Black was equally as funny as Rob, and he will be missed. But Rob is hysterical to watch, and Rob & Big was nowhere near the flaming car wrecks that have littered the MTV schedule. He's not a douchebag like Bam Margera, and he's not a whiner like that Life Of Ryan kid. Also: he has two bulldogs. If you've seen Lola (The Osbournes) or Tillman (Greatest American Dog), you know that the breed is hysterical to watch. And addition to "veteran" Meaty, who defined "undisciplined" on R&B, Rob got a puppy named Beefy. Look at this picture and tell me you wouldn't watch it.

Seriously, while there might be a drop-off due to Big's absence, I think this show will rock.
calliek
Holy crap, I remember Aldo Nova. How the hell did they even come up with them to do the theme?
lissy
Oooh, I cant wait to watch this!! I'd love for Big Black to make a cameo appearance just to dispel the rumor that they're no longer friends. Wishful thinking perhaps on my part. At least February 8th isnt so far away. I hope this show doesnt disappoint!
Lantern7
Getting ready for the show. I just had to use that pic, y'know?
Split Ends
Bulldogs are a big plus. But what happened with Big?
Stinger97
Eh, there a bunch of rumors that Rob and Big had a falling out following the end of their show together. Over what, none of us know. And whether or not the rumors are true, we also have no idea. It is a little odd, though, that Big is gone from Rob's MySpace and the two of them never seem to mention one another on their respective websites. It'd be great to have Big making an appearance on FF but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Shucks, and I wanted to start the thread.

Aw, sorry! I was just getting anxious and took it upon myself to do it.
Lantern7
Stinger97...it's okay. I was waiting to see a commercial before making a move. And the credits are very nice, though I think I've heard the song somewhere else before.
Stinger97
Here's a video I found at the DC Skateboarding website with Rob and a few other dudes. It's a pretty cool look at the Fantasy Factory, more so than the tour that Rob gave in another video. You get a few up close and personal shots, which are awesome. There's also a "murdered out" car at the end that I'm going to assume is Rob's. Oh, and you see Zorb balls in a few of the shots! I hope his crew goes Zorbing in an episode!
Lantern7
For anybody who has DirecTV: On Channel 113 (or is it 114?), there's an endless loop featuring the four new shows coming on MTV, including Fantasy Factory. There are a few highlights, Rob talks about trying to keep focused, and he engages in the usual monkeyshines. The only other cast member I could see was Meaty; he hung off the jaw of an oversized mask Rob was wearing.
Stinger97
Damn, I hope I wasn't the only one who watched this last night. Because it was, for all intents and purposes, appropriately awesome. I've come to expect quality from anything with Dyrdek's name on it, and FF just continued that trend. From Rob's famous friends (Lamar Odom!), to his old dog (who doesn't love Meaty?) and new pup (aw, Beefy!), to his poor cousin (who, I might add, is looking much cuter with his slightly longer hair), it all worked for me. I knew, once they started using the blob toy indoors, that this was going to be classic Dyrdek. It looked like too much fun.

The only thing missing, of course, was Big. Admittedly, this did feel a lot like R&B, just minus the best friend/bodyguard. And while I'll miss Big, I'm happy to get my weekly dose of Rob and his antics. Perhaps by the second or third season of FF, Rob and Big will have gotten over their issues with one another and they'll pair up again. Wishful thinking, I know.

I was never fond of Mini but, maybe he can make a cameo at some point? That woman is still caring for him, no?

ETA: One thing that bothered me was the amount of faces being blurred. Turbo, the "factory technician," and a few of, I think Lemar Odom's friends remained "anonymous." It was kind of distracting. I guess I can forgive the issue with Odom's friends, but Turbo, who I imagine will be on the show quite a bit, shouldn't be blurred.
lissy
but Turbo, who I imagine will be on the show quite a bit, shouldn't be blurred.

Stinger
, I was thinking the same thing! Why is his face blurred? We all know what he looks like since he was in Rob and Big a few times. I dont get it. And it's annoying too. Why have him on the show then?

My Rob love is still there. I've gotta watch it again when it's repeated cause I couldnt devote myself completely to watching this since the grammy's were on so I would flip over to this during commercials. Drama is looking good! Loved it when Rob came out to play basketball in those stilts!
Mita_Jo
I'm guessing Turbo Tony being blurred is supposed to be funny. Because that's what I thought it was. In the midst of unblurred faces, there he is, completely blanked out. In every scene, like a big, ridiculous, blur monster. I hear that takes a lot of time and money to do, so I have to think that its done on purpose.

I had my doubts about this show, but it was definitely awesome. I laughed quite a bit. The vertical tanning bed, Rob's way with the words..."Genny to Genny"? I must find a way to incorporate that into my every day language. I am also jealous that I don't work at the Fantasy Factory.

How cute is Beefy? I wanted to reach through the TV and steal him.
sourdoh
I love that after winning the basketball game, Rob busted out with a version of "Thank You For Being a Friend." I imagine he probably does watch Golden Girls reruns in the afternoon.

Beefy is ridiculously cute. I love when he was scared going down the little ramps and then how he quickly curled up between the test dummy's legs. I would watch a half-hour devoted to Rob just playing with Beefy.
Lantern7
Beefy is too cute for words. Meaty is cool, too, though I hope Rob realizes that with all that skateboarding training, Meaty will go for the board, even if Beefy is on it.
cko
Hooray, we're talking about Rob! Thanks, stinger! I love:
--Rob's irrepressible enthusiasm.
--Drama as the voice of caution. "I don't know, it just doesn't seem...safe."
--How the weird stuff they (supposedly) found at the junk store came around to be useful.
--That Meaty was such a reluctant skateboarder in Rob & Big, but now he wants to hog the skateboard to prevent Beefy from doing it.
--Lantern's awesome Motivator.

Fun show; in fact, I watched it twice!
yama
Thank goodness MTV brought back Rob! I agree with Stinger, this show completely lived up to what I expect out of anything involving him, and I spent the whole half hour giggling like a little kid. Beefy and Meaty are adorable (as is Drama!), the FF looks like a blast, and it's just more of Rob's random hilarious antics.

I'd like to submit my application to be his office assistant. I'm willing to work in an office like Drama's, which was so appropriately the shittiest location and tiniest space in the midst of all the awesomeness that is the Fantasy Factory. I'll volunteer to be the test dummy for the blob, I'll even agree to have basketballs chucked at me all day, whatever it takes to get to hang out with him, haha!

I was wondering about the Turbo Tony blurring too, but Mita_Jo's explanation makes the most sense.

Big Black was a big part of what made Rob & Big so good, but I think the premise and setting of this show are different enough from R&B that I don't find myself missing him.

ETA:
--Drama as the voice of caution. "I don't know, it just doesn't seem...safe."

I agree, cko--that was one of my favorite things about last night's show! Drama always seems so...I don't know, beat-down and weary. Like he knows that everything Rob is about to do is a terrible idea, but he's resigned to the fact that it's going to happen anyway and he (Drama) is most likely going to be the one to clean up the mess. Love it :)
calliek
I thought it was a great show. I could watch a beefy-cam 24 hours a day. he was so scared of that ramp, aww. And then he just slid down, AWW.

I did miss Big, but this is a great show on its own.
Mita_Jo

Oh man, is that office not ridiculous, but totally not surprising? Poor Drama. I hope Rob pays him well.
yama
Oh man, is that office not ridiculous, but totally not surprising?

The only way it could have been more ridiculous/less surprising is if Drama just had a desk in the bathroom (see: Jim's prank on Dwight on The Office). Which makes me think that the bathroom at the Fantasy Factory must be bigger and more plush than Drama's office, 'cause I don't think that idea would have slipped past Rob.
Saracuda
I'd like to submit my application to be his office assistant.

You'll have to fight me for the job! Can you imagine how fun that would be?
cko
Upon re-watch, I've decided that I feel so sorry for Meaty. Rob just plain said he looks all beat up next to the cute new puppy. Then, when they were getting Beefy to skateboard, Meaty kept trying to show what he could do. And Rob kept calling him "Bad Puppy." Poor Meaty!
fostersmom

And plus, somehow poor Drama always ends up on the receiving end of physical violence. He's probably wondering how hard he's going to be hit that day!

I'm 32 years old, I really shouldn't find this show so enjoyable, but I do. I can't help but laugh at the antics, Beefy is the cutest thing ever, and I like the mindless stupidity. Oh, and I'm super jealous they have that foam pit. I've always wanted to jump in one ever since I watched the incredibly hokey made for tv movie about Nadia as a child.
aeffkay
I was on the fence after the premiere episode because I missed Big Black, but now I love Fantasy Factory.

The power animals scene had me cracking up. Especially when Rob and Drama were in the car summoning their animals and Drama was over to the side chomping like a crocodile with his hands! I gotta say, on Rob and Big Drama was just a whipping boy (still is, really) but on this show he seems like he will have his moments.
lissy
It's nice to meet Drama's brother as well. I felt so bad for him when he ended up injuring himself. That looked so painful! Love the lion headed scooter! And I love to watch Rob and Steve Berra interact with each other. Rob always seems to have a good time wherever he goes.
Mita_Jo
I love Steve Berra. He seems so calm and gentle, compared to Rob. The do interact really well with each other.

I'm also now sure that Turbo Tony is blurred as a joke. Even when he's so far away you couldn't make out his face if you tried, he's still blurry. They referred to him as Blurry. And really, you can still kind of see his face, beard and all, through those pixels.

I didn't notice last week, but during the opening credits, they had a picture of Rob on Big Cat's scooter. Did they show on last week's opening? If not, its kind of cool that they'll put something from the new episode in the credits.

Drama's brother looks exactly like him. I wonder where he's been all this time.

user8
The Turbo/"blurry" thing is definitely a joke. And yes, there is a new tag at the end of each opening. Here's a link to the full length, original version:

So many funny moments:

Rob (revving engine): Let's get it popping!
Drama (half-hearted): Roll this b*tch.
*sputter*
Rob: My bad! My bad!
Drama: Oh, Gggod.
Rob: My bad.

After the Shoe Release Party:
Rob: Jump in
Drama: On top of the bottle? This is *not* safe.
yama
Drama: On top of the bottle? This is *not* safe.

"Not only is it safe, it's street-legal!" Hee!

That looked so painful! Love the lion headed scooter!

Did you notice the paws/legs on the armrests and the tail on the back? Attention to detail, that's how Rob wins me over.

This episode killed me, as usual. Drama was so excited that he had a cool spirit animal, only to be brought down with the crocodile tears. Figures. Also, how could he not have known that he'd be sucked into the whole car jump? If he ever writes an autobiography he should totally title it "It Was Supposed to be 50 From the Sidelines, Now it's 100 Co-Pilot: My Life with Rob Dyrdek". That boy is on the on the receiving end of everything Rob does. Including, as we learned last night, sneezes.

On re-watching the first episode, did anybody notice the ridiculous picture hanging on the wall in corpo? It's like two little dogs riding in a toy fire engine. Pure awesome.

At the risk of sounding racially-insensitive, my boyfriend is part Native American and ever since last night's episode I've been fighting the urge to ask him, "You got a hook-up on teepees?" Yes, I'm going to hell--and I plan on having a great time there.
cko
So this episode was a little more rambling than usual; I enjoyed it, especially how much everyone enjoyed the three-heads=Drama loves Timmy routine which was so dumb really!

Not enough Meaty and Beefy, though.
Lantern7
I feel bad for Drama. Anybody else feel he's gonna snap one day and try to throttle Rob?

Not enough Meaty and Beefy, though.

Agreed, though they're on enough for me at the moment.
Mita_Jo
This episode had me laughing so hard, I was in tears. Rob making Drama clean Timmy's "taint" and then telling him he could have said no. When Timmy was sitting on Drama's desk towards the end and he was trying to move his hand. I had to stop my DVR because I couldn't breathe and I was missing stuff. I also got a laugh when Rob was telling Jeremy that DC not only pays him but they expect him to do stuff. Like, yeah, I would imagine you have to do some actual work sometimes. Really liked that they addresses Turbo's blurriness.

I love that Rob brought up his World Records. Its like a nice shout out to the old show.

This show reminds me of Rob and Big in the first season, in the sense that its just silly and fun. The later seasons of R&B I felt like they were coming up with crap to do that they thought would be funny. This just seems like they're not trying so hard to be funny, though you can still see the set-up.

Jeremy is a cutie.

lissy

And it was nice to see they brought back Stuart from the World Records organization again! I still dont know how Danny Way managed to stay on that board for so long!!

This was a great episode! I laughed out loud a few times especially watching Drama with Timmy. And Rob flipping a coin to see if destiny proved that Drama and Timmy were in love! And of course Drama lost. lol!

I'm happy they addressed Turbo's blurring.

Oh god, I'm right there with you! When Timmy was propped up against the door so he'd fall into the room when Drama opened it? I was done for.

You just know there was no "tails" side to that coin. Poor, poor Drama.

I haven't tried to find any episode descriptions for the season--please tell me that Rob's parents will make an appearance somewhere! I don't know how exactly they'd fit in, as FF is kind of about work while Rob & Big was more about home life but I'm dying to see them again.
calliek
More metal and rock music on this show than on the old show.

I love Drama!
luvztv
I love this show. I've enjoyed all the old episodes of Rob & Big, and am so happy to have something new to watch. It seriously has me laughing out loud as I watch. I feel a little old to be enjoying this show as much as I do, but I don't even care. A local radio show had an interview with Rob last week and they were asking him about blurring out Turbo, and he said. That guy wants to be on TV so bad, so I blur his face out. (not an exact quote, and it was much funnier when he said it). Also he mentioned that he had a party on a Saturday there, and the cops ended up showing up and they let them use the zip line. I was hoping it'd be on the show, but he said that was a "personal" party and it wouldn't be. Bummer.
cko
luvztv, I wish I could hear Rob on the radio, I bet he's hilarious. Thanks for the scoop on the Turbo-blurring.

For some reason, the antics this year seem more dangerous than on Rob & Big, maybe because like someone said, Rob & Big was more "domestic." The whole Factory set-up just seems sooo unsafe, with the foam pit and zipline and all. Now I sound like Drama.
cko
I have to rewatch to catch some stuff I missed, but the funniest part was when Rob ran back with the tennis-ball gun, and everyone skittered off to different corners of the Factory, including Meaty and Beefy!
fostersmom
I was thrilled to see Drama get something nice for a change. After seeing his pathetic little office, even if he is using it to stare at the wall, the music studio was awesome. And count me as another 'Drama got cute' thinker. I just wish that the editing of the show was a little more less random. Beefy grows and shrinks every other shot.
Lantern7
Tennis ball guns are fun until somebody takes one between the eyes. Whatever happened to the net guns? Rob should still have a buttload of those.
yama
I'm totally digging Chanel with every episode. From her telling Drama he was "burnt" at Rob's shoe release party to her rapping (loved that Rob made her rap over the intercom to let him know somebody was there to see him) to the many times we got to see her eat it--I just think she's adorable.

I was cheering Drama on when he backflipped his bike first and got to shoot Rob with the tennis ball gun. Loved that he said it was like picking on his dad.

And, yay, Rob's parents visit next week! I knew if I just envisioned it, cleared my energy paths, and talked it over with my subconcious (who I would name something WAY cooler than "Steve") it would happen.
Lantern7
Has anybody heard of Street Dreams? Does it go straight to DVD? At least the screening gives Rob the excuse to bring his family to the Factory so he can torture his mother. I think the best part was his dad telling his wife that Rob gets his wackiness from her. Bonus: lots of Beefy scenes, including her licking Rob over and over. So cute.
lissy
I thought it was hilarious when Rob was freaking out his mom over picking up that piece of doo-doo. Eww!! And then putting it towards his mouth like he was smoking a cigar. He really has no shame!
yama

Please tell me that poop wasn't real. Yuck. Also, let's talk about that dog potty area...is that grass area a legitimate product or is it another thing Rob dreamed up? I can't imagine that would smell good.

I looked for Street Dreams on Netflix and it's not available there. I'm dying to watch it now, but I'm not sure I'm ready to see Drama's ass. Didn't need to know that it's "prematurely hairy", haha.

Loved seeing Rob's parents! He made a comment on Rob & Big about how his mom still sees him as a 14 year-old so he has to act like a 14 year-old whenever she's around. This visit was no different, I see. His dad's golf game was awesome and the romance novel nook (with censoring) for his mom was hilarious. I wonder if MTV pays for this stuff or if he does it on his own? Rob Dyrdek is like Southern California's own stimulus package, hee!

Did anybody catch last night's Nitro Circus? In one segment the Nitro Circus crew visited the FF. They showed lots of dirtbike stunts and the ever-present look of worry/fear from Drama.
cko
I love Rob's mom; she is really a character, and you can see he gets some of his outspoken personality from her, even though they are worlds different in every other way. I also like the family stuff because it gives subtle reminders that Rob and Drama are part of the same family, and they call him "Chris" and worry about him too.

There's a promo clip on the site somewhere where Rob is talking about his mom, and how she wanted him to settle down with a nice girl and go to church, and he says, "My mom, bless her heart. If I'd listened to her, I wouldn't have any of this" and gestures around him. You kind of have to agree with him there.
Bottled Water
Does this show have a legitimate premise? Like, is there an actual goal to this Fantasy Factory? Would any of what's on this show be happening if there weren't cameras rolling? Or is this just an excuse for Rob Dyrdek to stage some whacky hijacks that serve absolutely no purpose? I... just don't get it. Also, his lawyer looks more like a bouncer at the kind of club that serves jello shots and has a foam machine.
Lantern7
It's just Rob being Rob. It's a vainity project, it shouldn't be so appealing, but it is.

Caught a sneak preview of tonight's episode. Apparently, lots of sharks in one place can freak Rob out. That's all I'll say, though you should see how he "trains" for a shark attack in the Bahamas.
fostersmom
The shark episode might be my favorite yet. The Wal-Mart product launch was hilarious and the shark swim was awesome.

I think the Fantasy Factory serves as his offices for his businesses. But because he's a perpetual 14 year old, no boring office space would do. He's got legitimate product lines, he must be having some kind of meetings somewhere.
yama

I agree with this assessment. From what we've seen on other skate-related shows (Rob & Big, Life of Ryan) it's also not uncommon for professional skaters to have their own indoor skate parks for practice and such. So by incorporating both a workspace as well as a skate area Rob is actually being efficient AND creative.

My favorite FF episode is whatever one I've watched most recently. They're all golden. I did love watching everybody stumble around in the costumes last episode. And, again, Drama had to get sucked into Rob's terrible ideas!

How many episodes is the season scheduled for?
Lantern7
There are four more episodes left, yama. Tonight, we had unaired footage that didn't fit in anywhere else . . . like Drama signing a contract stating he'd be stuff and mounted if he got killed by sharks, Rob prepping for the shark attack by having trained dogs sicced on him, more unbelievable basketball shots, and Rob getting protective equipment after nabbing the tennis ball gun. Also, Beefy gets mad and tries to bite Rob a few times. She's growing up as chubby as her name.
