Forbidden Science is a new late night series on Cinemax (in the U.S.) and on The Movie Network (in Canada). This description is from the website Forbidden Science TV :

FORBIDDEN SCIENCE is a unique blend of noir science fiction & erotic programming; combining intelligent scripts, attractive characters with great production value. It's where the "X-Files" meets "Red Shoe Diaries".

Set in the near future, the stories revolve around an elite corporation, 4Ever Innovations, whose young and brilliant scientists download & sell memories. They replace those we've lost with clones and devise technology that helped us live out our greatest fantasies: from saving a failed relationship, to creating the perfect lover, to being irresistible to the opposite sex--but sometimes our deepest desires come at a terrible price, for there are secrets within 4Ever Innovations that may cost you your life.

And further comments on the concept:

Our intent right from the beginning was to attempt something truly different in late night. Let's face it, it would be very easy to just make a bunch of kinky stories about robo-lovers (and yes, we've got one of those), but we wanted to try to tell stories that had some resonance beyond the sexual. With science fiction we had the opportunity to deal with today's problems and put it into a world that is both entertaining and hopefully thought provoking -- questions about faith vs. science, what makes us individuals, and when does scientific advancement go too far. At first glance, these may not seem like typical late night concepts, but we believe that intelligent characters are sexy in themselves. Most of all, we just wanted to try to do something that went beyond what's been attempted before in this genre, sometimes we succeeded and perhaps sometimes we didn't -- but either way, we guarantee you that you've never seen a stylized, sexy, thought provoking world quite like the one you're about to enter.

We hope you enjoy the show!

The first episode aired this past Friday night (new episodes every Friday night on Cinemax and every Saturday -- I think -- on TMN). Interesting characters and storyline, revolving around the business of cloning body parts and humans (some espionage and some morality questions). There is erotic content, so be forewarned. It's like R-rated level stuff.

Episode 1 set up storyline of "Two women have to start their lives over; one after a devastating divorce, the other after having been murdered. Yes, murdered." I like that line.

Don't think there is enough info out there to say "no spoilers", but would rather they be avoided.

Did anyone else check it out? Would love to discuss it if you did.

Hey, FORBIDDEN SCIENCE is now on Facebook. I like the photos of the androids. Forbidden Science Facebook Page

I don't think there were any androids shown in the first episode, though (I'd have to look again). Most of the first episode was about Bethany Montrose joining the 4Ever company. The other main storyline was about a woman who has been cloned by her husband, but there is some foul play afoot.

I hope somebody watches tomorrow night. The next synopsis is:

When 4Ever announces a new cloned-organ lab, someone sets a bomb in the building. Bethany and Julia both try to put the past behind them and begin a new life at 4Ever

I really like this show. And io9 is going to interview the show creator Forbidden Science article on io9 .

edited to add Facebook link (sorry, duh).

I watched the first episode after seeing the opening on YOUTUBE and was really surprised - in a good way for once. Any time someone says they are going to mix science fiction and erotic stuff I always assume its going to be "Playmate of the Apes" or some kind of goof ball thing like that - but this one is actually pretty smart and I guess the writers are real live sci-fi lovers because they really put a lot of thought into it. I did the On Demand thing with Cinemax and watched the second show and it really holds up. I'm actually am psyched to see the next one because 2 is one of those cliffhanger endings which usually just annoy me but this one is pretty cool.
So I went to the on demand thing and there was a link to the shows website which is good. you can download some photos and there are some pretty nice photos of the actresses.
all I know is that if the one who plays a scientist doesn't get wild by episode 3 I'm going to lose faith in humanity - very sexy.

First -- here is the interview with the creator of the show, Doug Brode, on io9: io9 interview with Doug Brode

Well, now that episode one got the preliminary stuff out of the way, episode two gets into more of a meaty storyline. Julia, fka Stephannie White (the one that was murdered and cloned in episode one), is still struggling with being a clone. And it seems she is not the only one not happy with the fact that 4Ever makes clones. We get into some of the moral questions about cloning people and body parts and organs with some major protesters -- some very extreme ones who are willing to do anything to stop the cloning.

The protesters are pretty standard ("cloning is a sin"), so no big surprises there. There are a few other references to different reasons to not trust cloning (clones replacing people in all areas of life / work), but the most interesting moral questions like "is a clone the same as another person or even the person they are cloned from?", "what rights do clones have?", "is a clone the property of the person who paid to have them cloned?" etc. are just touched upon and will hopefully be explored in future episodes. And there is another big problem of cloning -- the God complex of the creators of the clones -- which we get a glimpse of right before the final moments of the episode.

A new character was added, a geeky scientist named Philip. He has it bad for the perky genius scientist, Penny, and I 'm already rooting for them to get together. Julia is bonding with Bethany (the divorcee). Bethany is having nightmares about catching her husband cheating with another woman and I must say, hubbie is hot -- so, yeah, I'll be happy to see more of him in the future (don't judge me!). CEO, Colin (see above mentioned God complex issue) is walking the tightrope between good guy and bad guy so far.

Episode ends with a nice cliffhanger. Oh, and the 60 second interviews with cast members before and after the show (on Cinemax) are hilarious!

Overall, I like the moral issues being brought up. I know I would be someone who would be supportive of cloning organs and body parts, but I don't know how I would feel about entire people being cloned. Although I know I would feel differently if I was in a position to want a loved one cloned, the question is where does that end? And once a person is cloned, do they have the same rights as the person they were cloned from or even the same rights as a non clone (naturally born human). And why am I thinking about True Blood right now? OK confused and rambling, but curious what others think.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Well, episode 03 started out with a bang (double entendre intended -- yay Penny!). This show is shaping up. Nice suspense, but not dragged out unnecessarily. Levi Freeman is really good as Colin. Nice surprise about his office affair, but it once again brings up the question about his moral choices. Is he a user or not? There is a funny exchange between him and his paramour where she says to him that he always seems to answer her questions, but not answer her questions about their relationship. That is spot on -- and something a lot of women will empathize with her about! haha. They have nice chemistry, though.

I saw a couple of tiny continuity blips, but overall, considering the explosion and effects from that, the effects seem good for a small budget show.

Oh, and there was murder amongst the mayhem this week. I like bringing in the competitors -- showing that this is not a totally unique business in the future and that when you raise the stakes to the level of human clones, the competition can get cutthroat.

I know I am feel like I am talking to myself here, but I can't help but add this new review found on FS:

Slant Magazine review of Forbidden Science

I have faith that this show will catch on with some of you guys out there, so check out the review.

This reviewer has clearly seen some future episodes that have yet to air. The excitement builds!!

New episode this Friday night at 11:35pm

Episode 04:

It's the weekend, but no one seems to be going home. Penny tries to create the perfect lover, while Bethany uncovers a secret project: Level 6.

More Penny -- yay.
caper24
Well, if you're fond of Penny, you should be happy about Episode 4. <shallow> Particularly if you like to see Penny enjoying herself. </shallow> She also gets really cute after she gets fed up with the robots and goes to watch old movies with Phillip.

I like that Julia is exploring her new life, as she was advised to do.

Not really sure what to make of the Section 6 business yet. But Colin is definitely getting sleazier. Ramming that bug in Laura's mouth? Very unpleasant.

I know!! And then to add insult to injury -- he dumps her the next morning (WTF?). He did seem to be somewhat torn about it later, but he is a major puppet.

This works out quite nicely since I was going to be living at NYCC this weekend.

Oh and this week's episode is:

When an employee of 4Ever is found dead, Philip uses the experimental Gold Chip to relive the last few hours of their life.

A "Philip" episode plus dead employee's plus virtual "re-living". I wonder who ends up dead?

And thanks for joining in to the conversation caper24! billjersey, where are you??

OK, so you guys are viewing the thread, but not talkin', so I'll do more talking.

Episodes 6-7-8 have been my favorite episodes of the series so far. Eps 6 & 7 are a two part set that are about an android named Max who has been created to be a love bot for a powerful senator. When he shuts down / malfunctions, there is a big problem in that she (senator) wants him fixed, Colin would rather have him destroyed and the competitors want the government secrets he may have in his computer brain. The big glitch in the whole plan ends up being Julia, who has been struggling with the whole "being a clone" issue and begins to relate to Max's dilemma of not being considered "real" enough to treat with any compassion. Max shows signs of life and independent thinking, but only to Julia. She decides to circumvent everyone's plan and goes on the run with Max.

I really like these two episodes because they kind of stand alone and focus on the clone versus android thing with some espionage and action mixed in. Plus, they have a very nice romantic interlude -- nice chemistry between Max and Julia (and Max is a hottie). I hope they revisit this storyline / plot again.

Episode 8 brings us back to 4Ever and the mystery of what is really going on there and our favorite snoop, Laura. I love the beginning of the episode -- just a talking head on a TV screen. We meet a lonely recluse who spends all of his time relating to the world through his computer. He is secretly in love with his neighbor, Laura, but has never spoken to her directly. He uses the only way he knows to try to get to know her and when Laura becomes more curious about her new cyber pen pal, she finds herself (once again) in over her head.

The episode is bittersweet -- Laura finds someone who may truly love her, but he, like Colin, is not what he at first seems. This episode answered a few questions about 4Ever and their technology (due to Laura's snooping), but it opens up a new set of questions about who is behind 4Ever. There also seems to shifts in power and in who is a good guy and who is a bad guy here.

Episode Nine looks interesting:

A sexy, but dangerous young woman seduces a brilliant scientist in order to steal confidential data. When her plan goes awry and the scientist ends up in a coma, she and her group of bio-terrorists kidnap Bethany and coerce Colin into helping them. Colin is forced to turn to Julia for help. Julia is shocked to find that the scientist is her former mentor and lover
.

Also, the FS website has some info on their attendance at the New York Comic Con here (under Hot News!):

They also have Trading Cards! Every regular character on the show has a trading card and they can be downloaded at the website. Kinda cool.

Hmnn. I saw episode 7, but thought episode 8 wasn't out until next weekend. Ah well... TMN will have it on several times, knowing them. And it's on the OnDemand.

This is an intriguing show. It has some interesting things to say about the human condition. And let's face it, the leads are hot and show it off nicely. I'll keep watching.

In the U.S., Eps. 06 & 07 played back to back on the same night. So 08 played last week and 09 plays this week. I think you will like ep. 08 overall, even with some of the change of events.

I'll be more careful in talk about episodes since we are now a week ahead of our comrades up north (lol).

Finally saw Episode 8. Episode 9 will be on tonight... not sure if I'll get a chance to see it tonight, but soon, I'm sure.

Alas, poor Laura. I'll miss her. Mary LeGault did a good job with the character, and she was extremely attractive to boot.

My favourite thing in the whole episode though was Phillip asking Penny out. Those two are simple adorable.

I just saw this show for the first time two days ago...I was just flipping channels and there it was!

Interesting premise, beautiful women in the show, adult-oriented Sci-Fi. I will keep watching.

The actress who plays Bethany is EXTREMELY hot!!!

I have seen most of Season 1 now. Very enjoyable show!!

Is this show coming back for Season 2?? Does anyone know????
caper24
Alas, I haven't heard a thing about a Season 2 for Forbidden Science. Given the cliffhanger ending, I'm really hoping it does come back, but it's difficult to say for sure.
