Another weight loss reality show, Lifetime-style:
"DietTribe" charts the journey of five best friends who, with the help of a trainer and a psychotherapist, take on the challenge of losing weight together. Premieres Monday, January 5 at 10 pm et/pt.

I'm looking forward to this, I just hope it doesn't center around "group therapy" sessions.

Plus, I love, love, love the title.

OMG...That Jessie is Hot! HOt!! HOT!!! I think I am in love.

I like this show but I really wanted to kick Shawna's fat ass. I can't stand people who go on these type of shows and then have the nerve to whine and complain. Especially considering she was a former personal trainer. She should have been kicking her own ass.

I wish I could go on this show with my friends who want to lose that baby weight. I'd promise not to complain.

I liked this show, Shawnna can leave at anytime.
What is that girl gonna do when she loses weight and her cake bringing husband is still not thin? I think he needs to change his ways too if she is gonna keep it off.
I was shocked to hear the red-head (sorry don't know all of their names yet) had gastric bypass and that it is not typical for someone to lose 100-150 lbs? I know it is not typical to keep it off but to not even lose it in the first place?
Jessie seems great and not scary like the biggest loser personal trainers.
boochay8888
Am I crazy, or is that red-headed girl's (sorry I don't know names yet either) dad pee pee hands Gerry from Big Brother? If not I swear it's his twin!

I thought the same thing! I am betting it is, the similarity is too close if not.
ivorie72
OMG who is that lady who just bitched and moaned and bitched and moaned?? I was like STFU!! (She's one of the black girls). And then she was droppin' F bombs and yelling at the trainer. Nice way to present yourself, hon.

Most of them seem pretty likable. And a lot of them weighed a lot more than I thought they looked.

The trainer seems ok, but holy Ken doll! The guy is just too pretty!
grrrl
Morgan and Gerry have the same last name (Lancaster), so it probably is Gerry from Big Brother!
Glory
I really enjoyed this show. The girls are definitely friends and they really looked comfortable with one another. It is very nice to see a "real" weight loss show. Meaning, that despite the fact that they have a personal trainer and a counselor they are still cooking their own foods and going to work (presumably) and actually living their lives while they try to lose the weight.

I'll definitely keep this show on my tivo as I'm interested in seeing how the girls progress. After the Biggest Loser it was sort of shocking (and much more realistic) to see losses of 5-11 pounds in a month. That really sold the show for me - that this wasn't some crazy bootcamp.

My hope was that this was going to be like the Starting Over show. I was crossing my fingers that Rhonda was going to be a life-coach on this show.

I pretty much gave Shawna a pass on her tantrum over the workout. She's on a calorie restricted diet and working out pretty hardcore. I'd be pretty grumpy too at that point. She does seem a bit more sour in general than the rest of them, though.

I was going to consider giving Shawna a pass right up until she said that she used to be a personal trainer. And she went on and on about how much work out equipment she had at home. As a personal trainer not only should she have recognized her own lack of effort and enthusiam but she should also have cut Fine-Ass Jessie some slack and stopped bitching and just did the work.

I do like that the fact that this show is much more realistic. Hopefully, this show will steer clear of Biggest Loser game playing manufactured drama and the unrealistic losing 10 in a week from TBL.

I am impressed that Celebrity Fit panelist Stacy Kaiser came clean about her battle of the bulge in the past. I give her 2 more props in my book.
lilith1930
I liked this show, I'll keep watching. I was shocked Morgan weighed so much, I'm very bad at guessing what people weigh.

So if I understood her, she lost 100 or more lbs., and put all of it back on, and that's more typical than permanent weight loss? Wow. Really makes you wonder about the statistics of WLS. I thought it was possible for people to put some poundage back on, but to gain it all back? I really want to know how she's been eating the way she has, did her stomach just stretch back to original size?
suburbfabulous
Morgan totally doesn't look like she weighed 292.
roseslg
I am glad there is a thread for this. I like this show since no one is getting kicked off and they really seem to be friends; you can tell on how they rib on each other. I was totally off on all the weights. Maybe it was the tiny tv that made me think they were all tinier :).
JohnnySunshine9
I like this show. You can tell the women are really friends with different personalities and interests. And it's realistic in that they are cooking their own meals and holding regular jobs. Way more "normal" than Biggest Loser which is basically workout bootcamp.

Ummm, Jessie is SO HOT. Meagan is my fave, what a sweetheart with a great attitude.

What else has Stacy Kaiser been on - Celebrity Fit Camp? I recognize her from another show.

VH1's Celebrity Fit Club

Another thing I forgot to mention that I love about this show was no product placement crammed down my throat unlike The Biggest Loser eveyr friggin' 5 min.

I did watch the first episode of this, but probably won't continue. It wasn't bad, but I just generally don't have the time for reality shows.
The girls are definitely friends and they really looked comfortable with one another.

This is where I fear this show might go into the crapper. Reality shows need drama - since reality generally isn't that dramatic - and I'm afraid that having the girls turn on one another (because everyone knows a bunch of women can't get along) is the road they will go down.
Morgan and Gerry have the same last name (Lancaster), so it probably is Gerry from Big Brother

Morgan was the one I most identified with - she came across well on camera, and her complaints about her mother not accepting her size seemed sincere and sad. I have yet to meet a mother who didn't pass her body image problems on to her daughters. I don't know if the fact that she comes from a family of reality show whores makes me feel more sorry for her, or less.
Especially considering she was a former personal trainer.

Shauna seems to be taking on the "bitch" role in the editing room. I thought the editors were pointedly trying to say that because she used to be a personal trainer, she was more embarassed about her size than the other girls, and that insecurity was what was expressing itself in ridiculous bitch behavior.
portfino
I liked the fact that this show isn't gimmicky. (Of course, that means it will be a ratings failure.) The friendship vibe amongst the women was really nice and does show how our environment affects our lifestyle choices.

And Jessie is HOT.

I know at least two people personally that gained all their weight back (and then some, in one case) after having a gastric bypass surgery performed. I also recall a woman from one of those Biggest Loser Specials (Military wives) who had gastric bypass surgury and put on most of her weight back, according to what she told Bob. Two things can happen: the opening from the esophagus to stomach/intestines (I'm not 100% sure which), can dilate (or expand) over time, allowing the person to take in more food. Also, the stomach can stretch over time - as a person who's had WLS adapts and begin eating more than the very little they can in the months just after surgery. I believe this is why doctors monitor WLS patients for well over a year - weight gain to some extent will likely happen. I'm relaying 2nd hand information, so I might not be explaining this completely accurately, but that's the jist of it.

I had never heard of this show before now. I think I'll check it out next week. Sounds like a good idea, and that is quite a clever title.

Mr.Audrey and I decided that Morgan and Mary Alice from Ace of Cakes must be related in another lifetime.

OMG! Yes! That is who she reminds me off. I kept thinking to myself, "But none of my friends have bangs like that." Thank you, MissAudrey.

She also "counseled" Lauri and her son Josh on RHOC.

I liked this show. Shawna bugged some, but there's one in every group. Even my group of friends has one (or more) that would bug the crap out of anyone watching on tv, but we love and is "one of us."

Jessie is gorgeous.

Wow, two reality participants in one week talking about how gastric bypass isn't the answer. (The one guy on Biggest Loser had it as well.) I wonder, though, if it's a case of it really not working or not following the strict diet close enough.

She also reminds me of Melissa McCartney (Deena on Samantha Who and Sookie on Gilmore Girls).

Not necessarily...not everyone wants to watch all the drama and the villain(ness) week after week. Some of us have had our fill of the Omarosa's, V'Icky's, ILNY's and Kate Gosselin's of the world. At least I know I have.

This show is more along the lines of a candid documentary. So, it doesn't need to resort, or stoop rather, to the drama or manufactured drama in order to have viewers tune in. It is rather refreshing to see a show like this where you actually focus on what the show is about and get to know and identify with the people along the way without having to get all caught up in game play and losing the intent of what the program was supposed to be about. You really only see drama in competitive reality shows where the pseudo reality "star" du jour tries to capitalize on their 15 min of fame as much as possible with their outregous behavior while the producers stir the pot from behind the scenes and behind the cameras with their leading provoking questions (which we never hear) that they ask their participants about previous incidents or other contestants during on camera interviews in order kick up dust.

The trainer Jessie seems really genuine and takes a great interest in wanting to help the girls succeed without demeaning them or being condescending like Jill-Bob can be at times and without beating the crap out of them.

Does anyone know where I can get TEAM JESSIE T-shirt?

Edited: To show respect and spell Jessie name correctly.
bossygirl
I call BS in that "tasting" at the Victorian. They are there to taste the food that would be served at the wedding. WTF serves pizza and carrot cake at their wedding? And her fiance is pretty gross - he wheezes and you could almost see the drool drip down his chin as the food was delivered.
Seekritwannabee
If Anna wants to keep the weight off, her cake gorging fiance needs to get his own diet tribe.
portfino
I like that this show is developing the friends individually and yet at the same time focusing on the group dynamic as well. I thought the "tasting" was an added bit of drama, but I'm not expecting a documentary. In fact, what I like the most about this show is how few gimmicks they use. And they really seem to be dealing with issues that people have when dieting from the profound like discovering why they're overeating to the mundane like cravings.

However, would it kill this show to have a couple of shirtless!Jessie scenes?
lilith1930
WTF serves pizza and carrot cake at their wedding

I suppose you could do mini pizzas as an appetizer, but I would think they'd need to be minier than that to be able to eat without being sloppy. Carrot cake - maybe some people would do that as a wedding cake. Not me, but maybe someone.

I call BS on bad editing/fake situations, though. I'm pretty sure people don't do dress shopping and food tasting 2 months before the wedding, and Morgan walked into the first weigh in last week already wearing the Ace bandage sock she sported last night from twisting her ankle.

I agree with you about the tasting and other wedding stuff, although I can kinda sorta see them delaying their bridesmaid dress shopping given that they were about to enter a TV show (particularly if David's Bridal offered them free stuff in exchange of a plug.) But from what I gathered from the women immediately asking "is it your ankle?" when Morgan fell is that they weren't hiding the preexisting injury, even if it wasn't explicitly mentioned. I don't think Morgan faked falling on the tires (if she did, she has a career as a stunt woman.)

I guess I'm willing to give this show more of a pass because I find the few gimmicks they have used much less offensive than most reality shows.
lilith1930
Oh, I didn't think she was faking the fall or injury, just that they seemed to tape both weigh-ins close together, which makes me wonder did they really lose the weight? Although I did think that Lisa (tall curly haired girl, I may be remembering her name wrong) did look quite a bit thinner last night.
pepperpot34
Can somebody please recap last night's show? I missed it.
Millamant
I don't know how faked the show is, but I can see someone ordering pizza (or "flatbread," if you want to get fancy about it) for a less formal wedding, and it was an appetizer rather than the main course. All that food looked tasty!

I'm sick of most reality shows, but this one does seem a little realer, like Intervention (without the strung-out freaking and vomiting). I liked how they explored Megan's issues in a fair bit of detail. (Though the therapist's TV-ready reactions are annoying-- she seems faker than Jessie and the girls.)

Jessie's crafty, Bedazzling side-- hee!
dupreesgal
Really enjoyed this show in comparison to The Biggest Loser. The women all seem relatable in some way and they are still having to live their lives. I think the wedding gives them a common goal. Production had the couple getting married (Anna?) go to the place and pretend that they were still deciding, but I'm sure they had picked it out a long time ago. She said that she was engaged for over 2 years, right?

I've seen carrot cake as a wedding cake numerous times. Not that strange around here. Does anyone know where this is filmed?
lilith1930
It's filmed in California.

He seemed so bashful about it. It made him even cuter...if that's possible.

I thought she seemed genuinely surprised by certain things. In fact, I bet she wishes she hadn't reacted in quite the way she did to one particular thing the first girl (I suck at names on reality shows starting out) told her.

I like the therapy part because it really drives home that, in some cases, there is a lot more to someone being overweight than them just eating too much, or lacking will-power. Going through some extreme weight loss boot camp, and losing a bunch of weight really fast, won't necessarily help if you haven't dealt with some of the issues that contributed to your weight gain in the first place.

NO!!!! Don't even suggest such a thing! 1) He's totally straight 2) otherwise he couldn't be my next boyfriend! So it's settled. :)

Hate to be the bearer of evil tidings, but straight guys don't spend that much time working out and then spend hours bedazzling footballs.
portfino
Jessie blogs about his "Bling Ball" here.

Also, someone was asking about Team Jessie t-shirts. From the looks of his website, it looks like that is coming soon. BTW, it's worth it to go there just for the pretty pictures.
filochica
I didn't think the football workout was the best choice but apparently Jessie didn't either according to his video "diary" on Lifetime's site. I don't know why anyone would think that Morgan faked her injury- she really seemed to be in pain and obviously tripped on the tires. If I was ever to twist my ankle, I would definitely want Jessie there, that would make me feel better :) He was quite calming I thought.
lilith1930
What lovely photos! I see a link for applying for the next season of "DietTribe" on his site - so this will be a regular thing, it seems.
MissAudrey
I'm in the thick of planning my own wedding and wouldn't have a second thought of serving flatbread pizza as a starter. And didn't the woman doing the tasting (Megan? Anna?) say that carrot cake was her favorite kind of cake? I've been to weddings with carrot cake and if it were my favorite dessert I would absolutely want it at my wedding.

I kind of have a girl crush on Lydia - the tall one, curly haired one. She seems to sort of be the "calling it like it is" girl. Every group needs that girl

This is slightly OT but this reminded me of a time when I once took a snowboarding lesson with a super cute instructor and I kept falling down on purpose so my hottie instructor would have to come over and help me up. :)

I was really impressed that the women could walk up and down all those steps in under 45 minutes. That was quite a workout. I was also glad that we got to see some of Shauna's underlying issues. For all these women (and most people in general), there are fundamental reasons why they are emotionally relying on food.

OTOH, this episode had a serious lack of Jessie IMO.
Nittany84
I like this show and find it motivating--there's no shaming people for their behaviors, no unattainable goals, no quick fixes. It's reasonable, if a little dull, and it's nice to see women on television who support one another instead of being passive aggressive or catty. However, I think that if you drank every time they talk about how "wonderful it is to be taking this journey with my best friends," you'd be dead of alcohol poisoning before the episode were halfway over. I get it. They're doing the weight loss thing together. We don't need to be reminded every three minutes.
Maroula
I love this show. I love watching Biggest Loser and this is definitely not in the same category and that makes it stand out a bit. I am actually sorry that they only have 30 lbs to lose, and probably that's about all they can love in 3 months safely, as I would love to see them lose most if not all the weight they need to. I really enjoy the friendship theme and the support they give each other. Watching the therapy sessions is a nice touch as well as the candid interviews and exchanges between two of the girls now and then.

Then of course my biggest draw is Jessie...hot stuff. Definitely agree with a previous poster that there needs to be more of him in the scenes as well as shirtless shots.

And I LOVED the bling ball he made! lol
deaja
I agree that this episode had a severe Jessie deficit. Hopefully they will make it up next week - maybe he can be a stripper at the bachelorette party. :)

I felt bad for Lydia at the weigh-in when Jessie was like "Lydia, you lost the least weight. How do you feel about that?" Yes, she admitted to not following the diet as closely as she should have, but at the same time, I think she has the least to lose of the 5. She's the tallest, and is currently the only one under 200 pounds.
xander874
I'm hoping that Shauna has a breakthrough and pulls the stick out of her butt, because she is seriously a downer. I think she totally has legitimate reasons for her attitude, but she feels like an outsider to the other girls to me. Especially at the end of this last episode when the girls all hugged and she didn't join in at first.

And I agree about Lydia being a fun person. She seems really nice and I hope that guy calls her!

maybe he can be a stripper at the bachelorette party. :)

I think my heart just skipped a beat...if only!
