I've only seen a few episodes of this new Lifetime sitcom, and so far I find it fairly formulaic. I enjoyed Nicole Sullivan's work on MAD TV and The King of Queens, so I thought I'd give it a chance. But the so-called garage band "hook" of the show is minimal, and it seems to be a typical suburban family sitcom.

Speaking of "suburban family," has it been mentioned exactly where the family lives on this show? It's obviously set either in Detroit or a suburb thereof, but the clues to their actual locale have been confusing. (I was born and raised and still live in the area, BTW.) In one ep, it is mentioned that they attend church at Six Mile Road and Dequindre. Um....I don't know what religion this family follows, but other than a few converted storefront churches, there aren't any houses of worship in the Six Mile/Dequindre area. In another ep, Rita and her husband are en route to the Detroit/Windsor tunnel to confront their daughter who has allegedly skipped out and gone to a concert in Canada. They mention taking I-94 to the Lodge to get to the tunnel, which would indicate that they're coming from the far west side of the city (or a western suburb). (Six Mile/Dequindre is definitely east side.)

Anyway, I'm sure it was just a matter of the show's writers looking at a map of Detroit and picking out some streets and highways to make the scripts sound authentic, but it's just irksome when you're familiar with the area in question.

I like this show; managed to catch it a few times last week when it replaced the first half of the Golden Girls midnight block. Nicole Sullivan and Tisha Campbell are always great, and it certainly doesn't hurt that the guy playing Rita's husband is eye-candy when shirtless.

I think the biggest surprise was seeing Raviv-Ricky-Raviv Ullman from Phil Of The Future. Not complaining, but seriously - of all the people I expected to turn up in this sitcom.

I find this show very similar to The Bill Engval show, which I find very similar to any number of other sit-coms... Nothing original or interesting here for me.

I'm also watching it because of the actors -- Nicole, Richard, Tisha -- but it is pretty bland. And the combination of the musical choices and the names of the characters (40-year-olds named Rita, Jay and Patty? 8-year-old named Shannon?) makes me suspect that either the show proposal has been sitting on a shelf for about 10 years or the EP is fulfilling an idea s/he had at least a decade ago. But, then, Richard shirtless, so it stays in the DVR lineup -- though I wished they'd put it back on in the mornings, much easier to fit into the DVR schedule.

Yikes! Apparently I'm the only person watching (or caring) about this show. Had to dredge up this thread to discuss the second season opener. I guess Nicole Sullivan is really pregnant (her character found out she was expecting) and starting to show since they used every sitcom trick imaginable to hide that fact: a guitar, the kitchen table, a laundry basket, a big purse, etc. Just counting them all was the most entertaining part of the show. That, and wondering if Tisha Campbell is also pregnant

Tisha apparently had a baby in September (I was wondering myself). I guess they are going the "eating too much" route, to explain.

Meanwhile, they've already announced that Rita is pregnant, so why is she still covering herself up?

I wonder if all episodes have wrapped. Since Ian Gomez is now on "Cougar Town", albeit in a supporting part, I wonder if he will continue to make this show.

i guess we got the answer about ian gomez. I also really enjoyed doing the watch the baby bump cover up. I find it wicked obvious when she was holding the giant song book in front of her lol. I am guessing they did that for the first few episodes since she was supposed to have just found out she was pregnant but the actress already seemed to be midway through her pregnancy atleast
