Again... TARcon the 13th will again be held from on 12/7 at
Stitch, beautiful, spacious bar/lounge in the Garment District. Stitch is located at 247 W 37th St (@ 8th Ave).
You all know by now...
Charges are as follows:
$75 - 3 hour plan - Open (Top Shelf!) Bar 6:00PM to 9:00PM and
a la carte menu. Check in will start at 5:45 PM
Maximum: 75 people
$50 - 2 hour plan - Open (Top Shelf!) Bar 7:00PM to 9:00PM and
a la carte menu. Check in will start at 6:30 PM, Entrance at 7:00 PM.
Maximum: 225 people
"Top Shelf" is everything but shots including their "designer cocktails" mmmm.
Checking In: Bring your Paypal receipt (email or printout from Paypal) for admission. Meg20 will not hesitate to throw you to the back of the line for not bringing your Paypal receipt.
Again, we're requiring shipping addresses with your Paypal payment. But remember,
No ticket of any kind will be issued. None will be mailed to you and none will be handed out to you. Your valid paypal receipt is your "ticket."Deadlines for all are 11/29, but please pay early. We have to give a pretty big deposit ASAP.
Gratuity for your prepaid drinks is included; please tip appropriately after 9:00 PM and for any a la carte food or drinks. The bar will stay open (l-a-t-e) on a cash basis. They said as long as we're drinking, they'll stay open. The kitchen will close around midnight.
There will be a bag/coat check.
There will be no goodie bags.
If you plan to drink to the point of puking, don't forget to bring someone to get you home safely and it's BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket).
The TARcon and bar staff and don't want to have to baby-sit you. Furthermore, if you plan to drink to the point of berating people, don't be surprised when you get thrown out. If you get thrown out, please leave (go home/elsewhere). Please don't stick around and harass people. If you do get asked to leave, you will not be allowed back to another TARcon. This is a private event and we can exclude you if necessary. Please don't make me do it. Bottom line? Bring a sober buddy if you plan on being out of control.
Your entrance does not guarantee you a seat, a picture or anything else other than open bar and race viewing during the paid time. Of course, you'll have a better chance at a seat if you are on the three hour plan.
There are no refunds. If you can't go, try to sell your spot to someone else.
Comps: Because of budget, comps can only be admitted after 9. If any comp would like to come before 9, they will have to pay the cover charge (email me for more specific details). If you are a comp or know a comp and will be coming after 9, please email me directly. I need the names for the count.
Wheelchairs: The venue is accessible at the main bar area.
Donations for overhead are welcome.

Missdona's post refers to a few dates that were for the prior TARcon. So the deadline for payment is definitely not 1/13! She'll update ASAP. If you have questions, let me know.

Also of note to TARcon attendees - valjean615 and I are organizing a Race Across New York to coincide with TARcon weekend. The race, which is basically "Amazing Race: The Home Game," will take place during the day on Saturday, December 6th. It should take about six hours total, and then there'll be an awesome after-party in the early evening. We're looking for up to 20 teams of two to run the race. There will be an entry fee of around $30 per team and a cash prize for the winners.
Although we're designing this race with out-of-town visitors in mind, we'll also accept local teams, space permitting.
If you're local to NYC and you'd like to help out with the race, we're going to need some volunteers to hand out clues, adjudicate at Detours and Roadblocks, and do some test runs with us over the next couple of weeks, so if that interests you, let me know.
This is my first time as a race organizer, but I've run in previous Races Across New York and they're always a blast. We've been having a great time scouting and planning.
Anyway, if you are interested either in running or in volunteering, drop me a PM with your email address and we will add you to our update list.
Semi-relatedly: as always, if you need suggestions for food, entertainment, navigation, or other NYC advice as you prepare to come to TARcon, I'm your girl. I've lived in the area for eight years and there's nothing I love more than helping others fall in love with my city.

Ah, this really is the most wonderful time of the year. I'll PayPal for my ticket soon, Missdona, and I just sent you a message before I found this thread.
ETA: I'd also be interested in a local rest, since I've more or less exhausted all other 'Con activities that didn't have Sephora in mind. I don't have a partner, though. Any takers?

I hate this thread, because I'm always resigned to not being able to afford to fly to NYC for about 36 hours just to watch the finale of my favorite show with a 100 or so awesome folks, and the past few years, it never worked out that I could take that particular Monday off of work. But now I find out the finale is on my birthday. And I have all these points just sitting on my credit card. And no one at work will give a crap if I'm not there on the 8th. What to do..what to do...

So, everybody knows about
MegaBus, right?
Your fare to Penn Station NYC is $5 to $19 if you live in these cities: Albany, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Niagara, Philadelphia, Rochester, Syracuse, Toronto, Washington DC
The website also has a $1 fare when the trip is reserved way in advance. The price seems to vary the most based on time of day for the departure. The hourly trips from DC go from $5 for the 11:15 pm trip to $19 for the 6:15 am trip.
The return trips are similarly priced. Also, if you can tolerate leaving TARcon before midnight you may be able to ride home without having to book a hotel.

I have been checking here every day the last week or two hoping that this post would show up. I will be buying my ticket shortly.
Last TARCon was my first trip to NYC, and I basically just trained in (I live upstate), went to TARCon, stayed the night, got up, and trained out. I'd love to actually see some of NYC this time. Particularly, since Conan O'Brien is going to LA next year, I'd love to go to a taping if they are doing a new show on 12/8, since I watch Conan every night. And if I do go to a taping, that will give me most of Monday morning/afternoon to do a little sightseeing. As for where to sightsee, I have no idea.
I will be putting in my time off request for Monday and Tuesday when I get in tomorrow morning. Very happy!

I'm locked in, though I'll have to check to make sure missdona got the money, since I had trouble with my Paypal account. And TARCon is to TAR fans what Wrigley Field is to baseball fans...you gotta go at least once, if you can pull it off.

Unless you already have a ticket for Conan, I think you'd be spending most of that time on the stand-by line making sure you'd get into the taping Monday.
For ice skating fans, if you have your own skates, you can skate for free at Bryant Park (40-42nd St between 5th & 6th Ave behind the library's main branch). It looks like there's a temporary two story restaurant there this year. I haven't been inside, but it's a very cool place to spend a few hours. And if you don't have your own skates, you can rent some.

Yeah I called the NBC ticket office today hoping to score tickets and they are currently booking the week of 12/15-12/19. Guess I missed it by one week, which sucks. I wont be camping out there all day for it, thats for sure.

One of the few short trips I took to Manhattan was in 1981 the weekend after the USS Enterprise Air, Space and Sea Museum originally opened. Since it was just rededicated and reopened this week after an extensive teo-year renovation, I thought I would mention it as a possible activity for those of you who have time.
As I recall, it;s about eight blocks west of Times Square. It was a fantastic place to go to when it first opened, and I'm sure it's even more so now.

I assume
the schnauzers is talking about the
USS Intrepidkatesus7 does Southwest fly to your city (or nearby)? If so you might want to think about flying into Islip and taking the train into New York-it may actually be cheaper than flying into the city.

Alas, this time I must beg off, tempting as it is. Tarsier's lovely wife called me last night to see if we were going to attend together again. I am heading to South America late in the month, and all funding is directed to this much anticipated event. I do, however, already have my timeshare booked the first 2 Sundays in May, ensuring that if Tarcon happens, I'll be there. And I'll bring pictures of aforementioned trip. And, hopefully, this Race across NYC will be repeated in May, because that sounds like an outstanding addition to the festivities. Will it include volunteer cameramen racing with each team?
Enjoy and drink a few margeritas on my behalf.

After going to the last two TARCons, it appears that I will not be able to make it to this one. Unlike the last two where I was a student, now I'm actually employed having graduated this past May and I doubt I can make it back to work, and I really can't take off of work. But then again, stranger things have happened...

I'm all in! ajlingo, you've addicted me to JJUs, much to the confusion of bartenders all over DC.
Lora's Mom, you will be missed. Hope the job situation works out for you, and that you're enjoying the sabbatical.
bubbaboy8!--as someone new to the working world, you need to be schooled in the art of calling in sick! Friday afternoon, cough alot, discuss your irregular bowel habits, go for a run at lunch so you're sweaty and flushed for the afternoon. Or just tell them you had to go to a 3-day speed rehab. Really, I'm sure your boss will understand.
Dare I say it . . . does anyone know if Miss Alli will be attending, (or is she posting here under another name)? TARcon would be diminished by her absence.
And, absent some miraculous brain transplant for the FratBois, this will be my Favorite Final Three Ever! Go Mom/Son! (My life won't be complete if Dallas and Toni aren't there). /end stalker musings

I swear, even when I'm actively looking for it, the TARCON thread somehow always slips in under my radar! But I'm all paid up for the three-hour plan. Thanks for the MegaBus info,
Paris in Spring. I might be able to take advantage of that, but I am also interested in sharing a ride if anyone's driving up from DC/Baltimore. By virtue of a sister who finished college and moved to NYC, I
think I have a place to stay. But if not, I'll come back here looking for a hotel roomie.

My mom is visiting for the first time, like, ever, so I'm super busy keeping her entertained. It's hard to get solid time on the computer, so I'm holding off on responding until I have a chance to sit down and figure out answers to the questions you're asking. jlj, go to
missdona's first post in this thread and click on the amount of money that corresponds to whichever plan you want. This will be a direct link to the Paypal page for payment. If one of the plans sells out she will usually edit the post to advise of this; since she hasn't done so I assume both are still available. MsMonkey and I will be there, we had a blast at the last two. And it can't be any colder than last winter's, right? I'm going to miss DimSumCon (if there is one), since we'll be at Disney for a week a week later, and work time is short. Fortunately NJ transit has a train that gets us most of the way home, with the last one leaving at 1:30am, and I figure Penn Station is close enough to roll downhill to from Stitch so we're making it a day trip.
