I squeed when I saw Cara again. She's adorable (who else remembers when she got excited that Maks was teaching her? "He's so cuuuute!"). I feel bad saying this about an 11-year-old, but the older sister seemed to have a case of bitchface going on. I'm going to chalk it up to nerves, though...I can relate!

Even though I love Cloris as a person and actor tonights outcome was correct. I'm sure she'll show up to a future show and joke with Tom and the cast again. By the way what was Samantha talking about when she mentioned team dancing? Are they doing something new this season for the next few weeks? I loved Tom's joke about Julianne taking part in the Iron Man competition.

And...did no one tell Michael Flatley about choosing the loser couple?
I skipped all that -- they didn't even bother to pretend they were split in their scores? You'd think Bruno or Carrie Ann could have. When will DWTS stop peddling these kids out every week?
I enjoy tap dancing and I was entertained by most of Flatley's "Capone" exhibition, but when Chicago is in the news now for so much, it's weird to see a tribute to the town be little more than a long-dead gangster. What was the part with the flames about? Was he saying Capone was burning in hell?
I was grateful for the break from Len, although he's much more annoying on Strictly Come Dancing than he is on DWTS this season. I also appreciated having Flatley's positive, if pointless, comments (and he was incisive here and there, like his comments to Warren).
Was anyone else annoyed by that film piece on stress and concentration? I felt the most sorry for Misty May's coach, who didn't seem to know what to say given that the person he was probably asked to speak about was unexpectedly removed from the competition. The soldier was hot, but again, not much to say. I can't believe that one man, who looked oddly like Bachelor Blob, actually said viewers may not realize the dancers are under physical, mental, and emotional stress. No shit. Maybe he thinks we see them as having tea parties or playing with Barbies?
Speaking of Barbies, what was with Samantha's hair? Or was that her My Little Pony look?
I'm not sorry Cloris left, but I hope Carrie Ann doesn't think she's the reason. To be honest I have to wonder about whether Cloris was "claused".

Dr Death and I were pretty amazed at how off the sound was compared to Flatley's dancing. There were more than a few moments of no foot movement from him accompanied by a volley of taps.
Dear Foley Artists,
The sound is supposed to sync with the movement. Just a little hint.

I don't tune into the results show to see a long, drawn-out elimination process, because I can easily find out who is gone the following week or a simple search of the internet the next day. The reason I tune into the results show is to watch professional ballroom dancers dancing ballroom. Dare I say is that too much to ask? I know they had the little kids and they are cute as all get-out, but that shouldn't fill the ballroom quota on the show. The string of low-rent "dance" performances has just gotten on my last nerve. I don't know how good or bad the Michael Flatley performance was yet, so perhaps I am jumping to conclusions. But for the love of anything that is holy WHY was there a pussycat dolls segment? Why are they still able to be on my television? I completely skipped over them because I would rather watch paint dry. Seriously, you could not pay me to watch them perform. Thank God for DVR's.
Ok, venting is good. Carry on...

Finally, Cloris goes home. She showed grace in her exit and everyone else truly seems as if they’ll miss her. But I’m just all kinds of yay about it.
What the hell are the judges doing all voting for the same kid couple?! And of course they all voted for the couple I didn’t want. I forget their names already, but their Cha Cha seemed too sexual, on the girl’s part anyway. Maybe I can blame it on the “divaness”. I still enjoyed the second kid couple much more…oh well.
Not too impressed with the Al Capone thing. They could at least have had a bigger explosion at the end. Michael Flatley just seemed uncomfortable on this show with everything but the dancing (his own, I mean).
I’m actually intrigued by the idea of two team couples dancing against each other next week.
Susan Lucci’s breasts have a life of their own. They move totally on their own power. It’s kind of fascinating.
Are we so far into the season now that there can be no DanceCenter? This will cause me much sadness.

I wasn't paying attention during the voting for the kids. No one clued Flatley in on the "you're supposed to vote for the losers!" plan? Those poor kids! They're not supposed to get swept, they need their pity vote, dammit, Michael!
Cloris leaving was definitely the right choice. Looks like the judges lowballed her enough to overcome the fan voting? (Or Susan's soap opera fan's kicked in enough to overcome Cloris' fans after Susan was in the bottom two last week?) Did I hear right that it was not necessarily the bottom two this week? I wonder if they wanted to throw Susan in there with her to not reveal who else was on the bubble there and keep the mystery alive.
It does look like all the stars genuinely like Cloris, though, and I think she was much classier than it could have probably been feared she would be on her exit. I liked Tom saying "they're saying in my ear 'if you want to rush her off,' and no, I don't!" And I liked them all copping a squat on the floor. It was one of her more genuine silly moments instead of the overdone ones. And I thought Susan was both shocked to be staying and very sweet to Cloris when she was called as going home, telling her how much she's going to miss her.
I also laughed when Cody was declared safe and had no partner to hug so Derek reached over and hugged him. And Derek seemed the most appropriate, being his partner's brother and all. I kind of wondered, though, why Edyta wasn't out there with him, if she was there and joined him backstage for the interview after he was declared safe.

As much as I loathe Corky (and I do!), I think the show is going to be that much more boring now. Susan doing two dances? Oh lord. It's going to be torture watching her nervously move around the floor, look at Tony for guidance and generally look frail and uneasy.
So much awfulness tonight!
1. Flatley's performance was a total bore. I started to yawn mid-way.
2. The Talentless Dolls and Missy Elliot doing something.
3. The Group Hip Hop again! Wasn't once bad enough? What fresh hell is this?
4. Flatley not getting the "vote for the losing couple" memo.
5. Pointless filler about nothing.

Finally. One down, one more to go. Then we can let the other 5 real contenders duke it out for the finals.
Did I hear right that it was not necessarily the bottom two this week? I wonder if they wanted to throw Susan in there with her to not reveal who else was on the bubble there and keep the mystery alive.
That is what Tom said, I rewound the DVR. My intitial thought was that
Cody was actually the other one in the bottom 2 with Cloris, but they wanted to save him at the beginning so they could report on Julianne and talk with Edyta. But I'll take off my tin-foil hat now, that is just a random thought on my part with nothing to back it up.
The Pussycat Dolls were absolute FF material, but I did see enough in the blur to wonder why they couldn't afford to wear any clothing, just underwear, to "perform" in. What an insult to my vision. For the love of God, where are the PRO dances this year? Actual ballroom dances? This crapola does not cut it.
Flatley was alright. I just wondered what would have happened had he slipped or jumped off that platform about 2 seconds later. Egads.
And ok, what in the world is Samantha talking about... team dancing? Is this like Dance War or something? Do they get "dibs" on each other and get to choose sides like in a pick-up game? Drawn out of a hat? What am I thinking, it will completely be a producers edit to give them what they want. I'm reaching for my tin-foil hat again...

There didn't seem to be much left for Corky and Cloris. They'd both toned down the mugging and she was too exhausted to be able to cope with two dance; she barely coped with one. I do think the ratings will drop, but she probably left at the right time (if not a week too late).
I liked when she told Michael Flatley to give his father a kiss for her.
Susan will probably have a week like Jane Seymour had, where they're polite and wait for her to go, and she does. If the choice is between two dances for Susan and Cloris, I'd go with Susan.
Only bright spot: nice to see Edyta again! But I think she'll overwhelm Cody. He can't handle Edyta.
Most of her partners have been very passive, aside from twitchy Joey Lawrence. I'm not sure she can handle him, he's always all over the place. I just hope that she uses this chance to come up with something that will help them both, and that the judges won't just shrug at her because she's filling in for Julianne.

I agree with O2Sean that Cloris was probably claused. Oh well, with two dances coming up, it would have been rough. And Susan's mambo wasn't too bad this week. However, I finally realized just how horrible her dancing is when I watched that revolting hip hop thing. Ewwwwww.
I did like Michael Flatley's number, though. And I don't blame him for not voting for the other kid couple -- Bruno was LAST -- if they really decide who they're voting for in the moment, so to speak, then HE was the who should have been ready to grab the losing couple's paddle. I think they just decided it was looking too fake to have every kid competition result in a split decision so they decided, with the older pair, to just let it be unanimous for once. I think the smaller couple -- well, the smaller girl and her brother -- were much better. There was something about the tall girl's hands that drove me crazy. I think she had large hands, for her size, and was extending them too rigidly and harshly. I read a bio of Fred Astaire once -- he had huge hands for a smallish guy and said he had to make sort of bird shapes or folding-in shapes to disguise his massive hands. I think she needs to learn that trick.
If it weren't for Toni's departure (and I gave her every vote I cast!), I would be glad that Cloris made it as long as she did. It's really dawning on me that we definitely lost one of the top three dancers, if not the very top -- and I blame the judges for not gushing. They're usually more than willing to oblige so I cry FOUL!!!

I was thinking frightening more than fascinating. You could practically drive a truck through that unnatural valley she's sporting (me thinks her & Tori Spelling have a doctor friend in common).
Oh well, at least I can sleep easier knowing no more Cloris dancing...although I am frightened to see what antics she pulls from the sidelines. I just envision her bum rushing one of the kids couples and taking over the spotlight for herself. I loved both of the young couples. I doubt the judges saw the winning couples' dance as looking too sexual -- they're used to the requirements of dance. I actually thought she did a very good job of making those wildly swiveling hips look like they were attached to amazing floating precision machine legs rather than sexual girly legs.
Is it just me or does CA always do something senselessly bitchy around this time in the season that pans out the way it's planned? I feel like I've been here before.
I really felt that I was seeing the same hiphop that I saw last night; so many of the flaws were identical. I did see some differences eventually, but I was sure watching it with suspicion.
This isn't going to make anybody who dislikes the new directions of the show happy, but I seem to recall several of us suggesting earlier than top4 team dancing for ways to improve the show for SYTYCD. A way to spread out the dancing with a different feeling. However, I was picturing quartets doing contemporary or hiphop or something; I'm willing to be impressed by ballroom. I suspect they'll have to do the obligatory partner switch at one point. I'd like to see celebs dance together. Maybe there'll be two teams of three couples? They could do that with two male celebs to each female celeb.

Nope. Deserved winners last season. Their paso was more entertaining than most of the dances last season.
I was confused by the team dance concept when Samantha talked about it. No surprise there. But listening to Tom's quick explanation at the end, it seems like each couple dances their own assigned dance. Then work together and share scores? Share the wealth has entered the ballroom. Ugh. Just let them dance ballroom. Give the celebs a week off. Better dancing will result.
I do hope the show just tapes the results show next week and just air in on Wednesday.

I thought it was a hot mess last night, but on the second go 'round it kinda grew on me. I liked it more than last season's line dance, that's for damn sure. (Season 4's Group Swing is my fave group dance of all time. Season 5's wasn't bad either.) I liked seeing the pros doing a dance out of their usual element--to me they all sold it, but I especially liked seeing Kym get down.

Thanks. I enjoyed the second dance much more than the first. Most of them seemed improved to me, and they seemed to be having fun. I think the biggest difference was the pros, or at least the female pros, seemed to have a more central role in the encore dance. I would like to see Tony get a chance at some solo hip-hop. When I think of hip-hop I don't think of Tony, but of all the guys he seems most at home with those moves.
I'm also partial to this type of group dance (compared to some previous efforts like the line dancing or the sock hop) because I used to enjoy that type of music. After sitting through godawful SYTYCD4 and their endless "hip pop" with people writhing around to bland Leona Lewis or Jordin Sparks songs, it was nice to see some old-fashioned, cheesy old school.

Flatley is an amazing presence in dance. I was bemused to watch him be so kind and gentle to the stars last night, knowing what a fierce taskmaster and perfectionist he is with his own troupes. I thoroughly enjoyed his Capone tonight. But, I will admit to some confusion with the fire. Yes, the Chicago fire is an infamous event in American history, but it predated Al by half a century, or so.
I HATED the kissykissy make-up "dance" performed by CAI and Cloris. Every word spoken in criticism by CAI on Monday was spot on. It matters not whether TPTB put her up to it, and "forced' the judges to go with "fives." Cloris is an old pro and understood the deal. Now, she has the Tournament of Roses to look forward to. Not bad. Not bad at all.
I found it VERY odd that there was not a definitive progress report on Julianne's surgery. Bad omission, TPTB. Very, very, bad.

A "team dance" can be two or more couples doing a dance in tandem, generally changing partners back and forth during the dance. It can look pretty cool, or it can be a steaming bowl of suck, depending on how it goes.
As far as the kids go, they all compete on a National level, so they have all been winners and losers. They are at least doing geniuine ballroom dances, and in most cases, look as sharp as professionals do.
There's always "America's Ballroom Challenge", when we want to see championship-calibre ballroom pros dance. The commentary on that show is more technical anyway, and can help with improving technique, if you're a visual learner...kind of like how golfers study Tiger Woods' swing.
And as a Chicagoan, yeah, we've been in the news a lot lately, both for good and for bad. Other tributes that could have been done could have been a Cubs' dance, complete with choking at the end of the routine. Or trying to do a waltz under 5 layers of clothes with a huge fan blowing on you, in a tribute to January.

What is "claused"? Did Santa have something to do with her going? Did he give us an early gift by taking her off? Where was he five weeks ago?????? I was going to say "Thank Gawd she's gone," but a merciful Gawd wouldn't have let that train wreck go on this long.
there was not a definitive progress report on Julianne's surgery. Bad omission,
"They" did say she was
home recuperating, so I imagine she had laproscopic surgery, and has tiny holes for scars. That seems to be what doctors do with routine abdominal surgeries these days - gall bladders, appendixes, etc. Minimally invasive, very fast recovery.
