From Zap2it:
On his first day at the Daily Planet, Clark and Lois are immediately thrown together on a story when a bus explodes outside the office; Clark rescues Bette, a young girl hiding a big secret; Davis Bloome, a paramedic, is drawn to Chloe.

NAH NAH NAH NAH HEY HEY HEY FUCK SMALLVILLE!

That's all I have to say about all that Cnois shoved down our throats. Not even all the awesome chlarkiness made up for that crap.
Captain Pants
Wait, was Lois' front page article a byline or a headline?
FreddyO
Ughhhh!!!! That was truly the worst episode of SV I've ever seen. All of my fears have been realized in this one episode. Chloe has no interest in coming back to work for the DP, even with Clark prodding her and telling the audience Lex is out of the way. I took that to mean we aren't supposed to consider the Planet as a negative or compromising newspaper any more. ED is definitely getting darker hair. She's absolutely making eyes at Clark. She got a front page story. And she told Clark she's more interested in truth than the front page now. This was the retcon to end all retcons.

Chlois is truly dead now, guys. It's over. Way, way over!
wirebiter
Bullshit, big pile of steaming shit. Belle Reeve was their big idea of what to do witha child that's just spent 3 years in a Luthor Corp facility?! Fuck you Clark. She just lived your worst nightmare and you put her in B.R.
liz antoinette
*takes deep breath* Fuck you Smallville! Fuckity fuck fuck fuck you!

Lois has officially SWF'd Chloe. Right up to the Clark mooning.

I don't give 2 shit about the wacky Clois high jinks. And since when did Nois become the bestest reporter EVA! You know what, nevermind. It's ICONIC! Doesn't matter how it happened as long as it did.

Chloe and Davis rock. I would have enjoyed it so much more if I wasn't so pissed of. They have tons more chemistry than Chimmy and I hope one day they both kill Clark, Nois, and Jimmy. But too bad it won't happen.

Chloe=Reporting. Always has, always will. PS3 you can say screw years of development all you want, but Chloe will always pwn Nois in reporting. ALWAYS.

Tess, stay fly bb. You have won me over.

In conclusion, thank you show for wasting 7 years of my life on the garbage. NOISCOTT 08!
DigiKing
I liked the episode as an episode. However, this was not even remotely close to the show that has been going on for 7 seasons. Nois gained skills in Offscreenville, Chloe decided that spending her whole life in pursuit of a goal was absolutely nothing, and Clark was competent and proactive.

...what? What's that clicking sound?

Huh, it's suddenly bright in here. Glad someone turned on the lights.

EDIT: I had some good things to say about the ep. It was pretty tightly written, and Tess and Davis are absolutely great and have excellent chemistry with the other actors. Chlavis was great, Chlark was great as always, and I'm glad Chloe said she wasn't ready for their "more than friends" relationship (CLARK SAID IT) to change. "You've been on my to-do list" is officially the Straightest Line of the Episode. In short, everything not involving Nois being a bumbling idiot and then somehow scoring a byline was on point, for this new show that has just started this year.
elliemarvel
Maybe in the single month since the last time we saw our "intrepid" reporter who was reduced to drinking on the job and waiting for headlines from Zod, she went back to college, got a BA in journalism, learned to type, learned to write, learned to spell, trained with Navy Seals, and visited the 33.1 facility to have her brain replaced with the one they removed from Chloe, a la Sylar.
jediknight
"I'm getting married?" The delivery by Welling on that line was excellent. So that was a plus about this episode.

I did like Tess mentioning the pyro girl joining a team. Is it too much to ask that this team, is Lex's army he was building with 33.1? Please Smallville let this lead to the Justice League vs Lex's army. It's a natural story that should happen and has been put out there since season 6. Of course since this is Smallville, it won't happen.
PolarB
Lois is definitely too over the top with regard to reporting and Clark. But otherwise? I liked it. Tess and Davis are pretty damn awesome, the Chlark tension was awesome and heroic!Clark was awesome. I even liked the Clois banter.

Nice surprises: the aforementioned Chlark scene, and Tess having a "team" of people with special abilities. Also, Davis' forehead at the end.
Firebunny
The only thing I liked in this episode was Davis. Everything else was bullshit.

Fuck you Clark, for standing there and watching a young man die. You got superspeed, dipweed. You're impervious to fire. Save a fucking life why don't you. And fuck you for your heart felt speach about how you understand before shipping a girl off to an infamous psyche ward.

Fuck you Chloe, for giving up on your dreams and turning into a stepford wife. Everything that was interesting about you is dead and you smile and look at your cheap, ugly ring.

Fuck you Lois, for taking over Chloe's life. For adopting her character. If you had some life changing experience that would lead to this I might accept it, but you are the light switch that makes other light switches look thought out and well planned.

Fuck you Bette for being a lousy actress. I didn't care about your plot. You added nothing to any of the moments you were on screen.

And Fuck you Smallville for taking the easy road. You're just lucky Tom Welling is gorgeous.
Durq
That child was profoundly annoying; Lex was 100% correct in keeping her locked up. Stop talking with that damn hiccupy voice!

SW is very good – managed to infuse some character notes into fairly generic dialogue. Showed some chemistry with AM & TW.

The repeated references to Lex only serve to underline the absence of MR in an unhappy way.

"I'm getting married?" The delivery by Welling on that line was excellent. So that was a plus about this episode.

Tom was great throughout this ep - he rocked his comedy & hero sequences and looked very sexy in his Planet-wear!.
DigiKing

He didn't know that the kid was not the source of the flame. From his standpoint, his fastest reaction time would have been too late.
And fuck you for your heart felt speach about how you understand before shipping a girl off to an infamous psyche ward.
I was surprised, but she did murder Tommy. Not allowed to die, not even set up to die. She murdered him in cold blood, and it wasn't even because she thought he might sell him out again. She did it for revenge.

Stands up and applauds.

The only thing I'll add is the show aware of how much damage this just did to the rest of the season, let alone even thinking of locking another season? Are they fucking insane? By all means do the mythos but do it with respect to your fucking audience that has stood by and helped paid your salaries. Lightswitches are never any fun. But this just takes the cake. I came in as a Superman fan. But I think you knocked some of that mystique right out the window for me. Clark isn't even Superman yet and he's working at the Daily Planet? What the fuck is that?!

Lois knowing how to spell correctly and having the audacity to give Clark pointers? Does the ditz not remember he was a journalist years before she even stepped foot or made a dent in his life. Clois isn't cute or even iconic, their fucking moronic.
nwp01

Oh. My. God.

The SWF is complete. 100% complete.

Lois is more interested in the truth now? Puhlease.

PS3....just call it what it is. A reboot of everything that you ever did 7 years ago. Chloe doesn't want to return t the DP?? The one that she spent her entire childhood life trying to get into? The one where she must have had the toughest interview of her life to get there?

I don't know if I should laugh, cry or scream in hysterical anger...don't know.

My only, tiny solace is that in making Lois apparently the ICONIC Lois, you have made her into Chloe.

You guys aren't even being secretive or subtle about it anymore.
EllyF
Bwa ha ha. EDLois got a front page article? No, seriously... what really happened?

Snort. I'm so glad I'm watching SPN now, instead of poorly warmed over crap. I'm going to take great joy in watching SV's ratings go down the tubes. I just hope it doesn't take the Winchesters with it.
acampbell
A few quick thoughts. I actually largely enjoyed it. The total absence of even a Mention of Lana was a huge plus. Also the primary focus on Clark, and Clark helping people. I enjoyed the Lois & Clark banter & dynamic, and Lois bossing Clark around, as well as Clark and Tess. The VOTW was profoundly grating--fingernails on a blackboard annoying. I liked that Tess & Clark discussed Lex and that Clark didn't say anything TOO terrible about Lex during the conversation. If Tess is a Lex substitute and we get Cless, good enough--I'll take whatever I can get.

"To-do list." Heh.

BTW, when did Clark observe the Planet "consuming Lex's life"? Did he ever see Lex working at the Planet? I don't think they even ever had a scene together there! Not so much as passing each other in the hallway. Did we ever see them discuss the Planet? (Or was that what Tess meant by "lying.") Or maybe: the Clex had lots of convos about it in Offscreenville? You know, like those "Drive slower" conversations.

I admit, though: after what S5-7 did to Lex, Clark, and the Clex, this show can't hurt me that much any more. Chloisers and Chlarkers, I feel your pain, but you're not the first.
MissPiggyWiggy
However, this was not even remotely close to the show that has been going on for 7 seasons. Nois gained skills in Offscreenville, Chloe decided that spending her whole life in pursuit of a goal was absolutely nothing, and Clark was competent and proactive.
So Chloe is lightswitched out of her 7 year role as a journalist & once again, Nois -who fcuked her way into the DP, is lightswitched into "competent reporter".

FUCK YOU PS3!!! FUCK YOU!!
Captain Pants
I, too, thoroughly enjoyed the episode. The pace was kind of slow, and Bette's actress was so annoying, but the Reporters!Clois was great. It was... yes, I'm going to say it, ICONIC.

Also, team of supervillains? Yes, please.

Doomsday's forehead! Cool.
FreddyO
Oh, and by the way, how the hell does Clark just become a "reporter" at the Planet? I know that was revealed at the end of last week's episode, but when he put on the DP badge that actually said "Clark Kent - Reporter" it really banged it home. Bad enough Nois's entrance was a joke, but Clark's is even worse because there was no explanation as to how he waltzed in and got that gig after Chloe had to fight like no one's business in THRIST just to get in the door. Again, this show is now a total reboot and the retcons and lightswitches are the worst I've ever seen in any show - ever!
MissPiggyWiggy
It was... yes, I'm going to say it, ICONIC.

Since when is Fcuking your Boss - a Luthor clone to get in the DP Iconic?

Not even graduating from High School.. that's not my version of anything remotely Iconic. What a disgrace if Clark Kent/Superman, who represents "truth, justice" is reduced to being with the town bicycle.
ruinedpuzzle
.......

That was my brain trying to comprehend the fuckery that was this episode of Smallville.
Adele613
There are just way too many lightswitches going off this season. Clark's a DP reporter *flick*, Lois is all about the "truth" *flick* AND gets a front page article *FLICK*, Chloe doesn't want to be a reporter any more *FLICKFLICK*! Why don't they just scroll text across the screen telling us what we need to know, because it's obvious we don't need to be shown any kind of character progression.
RedKRules
What the hell are they doing to Chloe?? now Lois is smart? already got her headline??

PS3 build up our hope just to watch us break again!! I am done with this sick circus, I will not be around to watch my favorite character being written off so diferently ....

I hope Doom kills everyone!!! byebye Lois and Clark show!
Full Frontal
What was it Repairmanbob said? A lightswitch the size of size of Zod's phallus? Good grief that was terrible.

Terr
I
Bulll.
chlarkspuffy
Clark offered Chloe the engagement ring. Hee!

What exactly is "more than friends"? If I were Chloe I would have asked him what he meant by that. Also, Clark's a wimp for not answering her question about whether or he was ready for their relationship to change. It's sweet how she said she's not ready.

I am totally digging the Chloom. Yes, Davis is a villain and even flirting with him would make Chloe look bad, but I don't care anymore. Coherent storytelling and continuity clearly aren't on the books anymore for this show, so I think I will go for the pretty.
wwg23
....
EllyF
And so many of us were hopeful, because we figured it couldn't possibly be that bad.

Who would have thought it could in fact be that bad? I'm actually astonished by the sheer nerve of PS3. Totally rebooting the series in its eighth season and kicking a good half the fanbase in the testicles (metaphorically, in many cases)-- well, that's certainly an interesting tack to take when you profess to want a ninth season. Good luck on that extra season, guys. To quote Han Solo... you're gonna need it.

So when this happened I actually said "That wasn't metaphorical at all, no sir" out loud. And I loved the Chlark there, and a contextual acknowledgment that a marriage to someone else and what they have are mutually exclusive. I didn't even expect that.

And MissPiggyWiggy, they actually had Chloe say something like "Well, I've spent my entire life praying to the gods of journalism...why not try something new?" Like...flipped lightswitch is flipped.
Nori
Oh, and by the way, how the hell does Clark just become a "reporter" at the Planet?

Apparently alls you have to do is fill out an application. First and only rule of journalism: show ability to correctly use an ink pen. Fuck experience and talent.

Tess still kicks ass. Only want to see the DP when Tess is there.

And call me a sucker but, Chloe and Davis...I'm sold. I don't know who to curse for it-Allison and Sam or the writers-but I bought it hook, line, and sinker from the moment she watched him come through the cloud of smoke. And was totally waiting for them to go at it on that table at Isis and for Jimmy to walk in and run crying out of the building to get hit by a bus. That would have just made the episode so awesome. Oh well.
RedKRules
I think with the all lightswitches, they could had light up the whole Metropolis, what a joke this show is becoming!
Teen Titan
I think they should start having the characters actually flip light switches.

For example:

Clark: So Lois, you're a big shot reporter now hey?
Lois: Is it dark in here?

Lois crosses to the lightswitch by the door.

Lois: Yes, I only care about the truth now!

Lois flicks the switch and the light above her head goes on, bathing her in an ICONIC! reporter glow.

That would make it easier for my dumb viewer brain to understand. Since I'm clearly not smart enough to follow the showrunners logic.
DigiKing
Teen Titan, your name is apt, for you are my hero. And in the cool flying and stopping time way, not the lame gum-induced, 2-day rock concert STRIDESTRIDESTRIDE way.

Chlavis (Doe?) chemistry is amazing. Their scenes warrant a rewatch.
Soleil
The only consolation I can take is that I'm supposed to believe what I'm SHOWN, not what I'm TOLD.

I'm TOLD (by Nois herself) that she is the seasoned reporter. Oh, how bitterly ironic when she talked about working your way up and paying dues writing obits and classifieds. If I recall correctly, the only dues Lois paid to get into the Planet involved her being bent over the editor's desk.

And yet I'm shown that Nois is all bluster. She tells Clark to watch and learn, and yet she gets rebuffed twice at the bus crash site by a rent-a-cop. She relies on Clark, a co-worker, for her reporting (we never see her get off the phone with any other sources). After she breaks into the hospital and steals the medical file, she fails to interpret any of the relevant information, leaving it to Clark the rookie reporter to piece the story together.

(On the bright side, it makes Clark look WONDERFULLY competent.)

Chloe SAYS that she's moving on from journalism, yet her ACTIONS have her researching Davis as soon as she meets him, admitting that she can't shake her old reporter's curiosity.

Chloe and Clark SAY they're happy with the Chimmy engagement, yet what we saw was a long scene between "more than friends" that ended with a long hug full of unspoken words and haunted, uncertain gazes over one another's shoulders.

A couple things that are consistent in both showing and telling: The new kids are excellent. Davis is super charming and I can't wait to see him as Doomsday. And if we HAVE to endure a Lexless show, Tess is a pretty badass proxy.
FreddyO

Well said, Elly. And believe me, it was that bad. Actually it was worse. In fact there are no words in the English dictionary to describe how horrible the lightswitches were. The PS3 really did go for a hard reboot and they clearly don't give a crap about a significant portion of their fanbase. Clearly they do not. They took this one episode, after getting the premiere out of the way, to kick us all in the balls (metaphorically speaking - although as a guy I promise I felt it physically while watching this trash). It's like they got together in the writer's room and said to one another, "How much lightswitching can we do in one episode?" And they just went for everything in this one. They deconstructed Chloe (and Chlois in the process) and created this new Nois who now cares more about the truth than getting a front page article - which she just so happens to get. These writers made damn sure they killed everything they knew we were hoping for. They truly crapped on us tonight. No other way to explain it. Like I said a few weeks ago, these guys/gals are going for a newer demographic. They know they have the Cnois fans already on board and they want more "mythos" fans so they just went straight for another "Lois & Clark" style show. That's what this episode did. It was extreme. It was obvious. It was horrible. And it was infuriating. I'm done with it.
chlarkspuffy
They're playing Clois like LnC. In fact this entire episode was very reminiscent of early LnC with one major reversal - Lois was making moon eyes at Clark.

Also, they're already playing Lois as ILL in one episode alone. So, where does she go from here? Following the Apocalypse meta is will now get a pulitzer? You know, it actually would make it easier to watch this show had I never watched the previous seasons. It would have also made a wee bit more sense.
cmirk01
but when he put on the DP badge that actually said "Clark Kent - Reporter" it really banged it home.

Tell me about it. Do these people not remember what Pauline told Chloe before making her work for a story to even get her foot in the door?

"Well, that is quite an accomplishment, to have your own byline when you're practically still in diapers. I mean a lot of reporters -- well, real reporters -- work for YEARS STRUGGLING before they can get that kind of a chance."

Nois is already questionable. But Clark? Future Superhero or not, he isn't and shouldn't be called a reporter at the Daily Planet at this point. This is beyond a light switch. It's like the sun was suddenly pulled up and permanently burned my retinas. He would be lucky if he was positioned to answer phone calls during the night shift at this stage like Chloe had to, and she was the editor all throughout high school!

This is unbelievable. They forever tainted his entrance at the Daily Planet at the expense of the one who was written as the one who grew up respecting the damn place. And from what I hear (like I will be watching fuck that) Abyss is only going to remind us of that fact that she looked up to that place. I never imagined in a million years years ago when the pilot aired that I would be sitting hear in shock over how much they royally screwed what should of been a memorable moment that should have been saved as a brief flash forward in the last episode of the series.
Lookupdown
Chloisers and Chlarkers, I feel your pain, but you're not the first.

Actually, we were or Chloe fans were. Rewind back to season one when we had another iconic brunette and her relationship with Clark wasn't so interesting. Season 2 rolled in and Bitter Chloe emerged. This show has always f'ed over the Chloe character for its shitty iconiccharacters. First it was SuperPink Lana, then it was SuperInsecure Jimmy, now it's SuperLightswitch Lois.
Teen Titan
Davis needs to call me immediately. I don't care if he turns into Doomsday mid date.

And I don't care how hard the show tries to sell it to me, Chloe loves Clark. Always has, always will.

Jimmy Assbag Olsen is just the guy she's settling with because she's given up on Clark ever returning her feelings.
Dai Hinoarashi
Great episode. Tess and Davis are great additions to the cast.

I guess I'm in the minority that don't consider Lois lightswitching.
EllyF
Well said, Elly. And believe me, it was that bad. Actually it was worse. In fact there are no words in the English dictionary to describe how horrible the lightswitches were. The PS3 really did go for a hard reboot and they clearly don't give a crap about a significant portion of their fanbase.

They did a good job. Not only am I disinterested in watching the show any longer, based on what I've heard, I don't even feel inclined to try to hunt up a single scene on YouTube. I heard there was a Chlark hug, and I don't even care enough to go look for THAT. And that is pretty darn sad, considering what a rabid fan I've been.
MissPiggyWiggy
And MissPiggyWiggy, they actually had Chloe say something like "Well, I've spent my entire life praying to the gods of journalism...why not try something new?" Like...flipped lightswitch is flipped.

Unfcukingbelievable! It seems they are trying to lightswitch Nois into the role played by Chloe for the past 7 years. Why? Because of a "name"..and what makes it even more offensive, is the fact Chloe earned her place at the DP, she didn't fcuk a Luthor clone editor..

Evidently Nois can't succeed with any competition, especially from Chloe. What's even more offensive, the "new" Nois, it's already been done with Chloe/Allison Mack, who is the award winning/critically acclaimed actress.. despite ED's nominating herself for Lead Actress Emmy contention. *rme*
MooshyMooshy
Dammit - Davis and Chloe are smoking hot! Their chemistry was through the roof. I was dazzled by their scenes together and nothing else came close to their scenes together. Except in the van for the first time - I kind of dug Tess as she started recruiting for the "team".

I never understood Chloe and Jimmy in the first place; and I know there's no future with Doomsday, but what a way to go. Hmmm - one's got a dark secret, hot in black and self-effacing wit - and the other is dorky sweet with candy ring. Come on Chloe - it's not a choice here.
DigiKing
I acknowledge and respect some of your points regarding Chloe and Lois. But hey is it a stretch for someone to become dissillusioned with their position and want to try something different.
This happened only when she was fired.
Although some may not agree, I thought they clearly showed how Clark got this job. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out when you watch the scene in Tess' office between Clark and Tess.
So it's okay that Clark got the job the same way Nois did? I guess she's going to pull up his lunch menu from high school and cite it as her reasons for hiring him, that is if SUPERMAN, the symbol of truth and justice, even questions his hiring.
nwp01
The only consolation I can take is that I'm supposed to believe what I'm SHOWN, not what I'm TOLD.

I can't take consolation because frankly, tptb have gotten lazy and are resorting to telling rather than showing to justify themselves.

Lois only cares about truth? Since?..the one month that Clark was gone?

Wasn't it just late last season when Jimmy was trying to explain something and all she heard was Pulitzer and fame? WHat truth?

Actually, we were or Chloe fans were. Rewind back to season one when we had another iconic brunette and her relationship with Clark wasn't so interesting. Season 2 rolled in and Bitter Chloe emerged. This show has always f'ed over the Chloe character for its shitty iconiccharacters. First it was SuperPink Lana, then it was SuperInsecure Jimmy, now it's SuperLightswitch Lois.

Exactly. As a Chloe-fan, it's been years that tptb have been doing this. So no. My frustration does not just come out of Miss SWF Lois...it's 7 fucking years of it.
Old Juan
Sounds pretty bad from what I've read so far. It sounds like the hard reboot theory might have just turned out to be true regardless of what TPTB have said.
Nori
So it's okay that Clark got the job the same way Nois did?

Hey, nothing earns the respect of your co-workers faster then screwing your way into a position. At least they're not in a competive field. Oh, wait.

Davis needs to call me immediately. I don't care if he turns into Doomsday mid date.

Sadly, they could have Davis kill Jimmy and attack Nois then turn those puppy eyes on, mutter a half-assed apology, and I'd totally forgive him.
Iconic
It sounds like the hard reboot theory might have just turned out to be true regardless of what TPTB have said.

It's not really a reboot, it's just Apparently Lois Lane was the blond reporter from Season 1 who worked hard and all, while Chloe Sullivan is the character who doesn't care about journalism.

They completely swapped Lois and Chloe's role. And I think they even retconned Lois's backstory saying she did obits and such.

I guess ED really did win.
Firebunny
Sounds pretty bad from what I've read so far. It sounds like the hard reboot theory might have just turned out to be true regardless of what TPTB have said.
Replying to this in... oh hell, I was going to say All Seasons, but I think what I'm going to say belongs in the Bitterness Thread.

I'm going to make my first bitterness post.

Thanks Smallville.

Man, what a mess. Skipping this episode. Can't wait for the ratings tomorrow to go down the drain. Good job, PS3.
