I'm still scared by that old Saturday Night Live sketch.

What's the over/under on the number of drug positives in the event?

OMG how amazing were those pint-size female weightlifters today? And that happy dance that little bitty Chen XieXia did after she set a new Olympic record? Positively adorable, especially since up to that very moment she had been deadly focused and serious.

I'm just jumping in here to say that the title of this thread is SO DIRTY and making me giggle. (Because I'm 12.)

Last olympics they did a blooper reel and one of the quotes was "This morning I went down, and I saw her snatch and it was beautiful" Then the announcer realized what he said and kind of back pedaled.
I agree- the small women seem amazing, I kind of expect big guys to be able to do this (and I know their weights are way heavier) but I'm still amazed by the small women.
So how bad are the knee injuries in this sport? It looks like it's impossible on them!

I'm watching this and today's Clean and Jerk competition is hilarious. One guy ends up dropping the weight on top of the stage-side microphone and just gives this "oh well" look. This other guy just stood there for like 30 seconds before doing the clean and completely failing at the jerk (and on his 2 set, he has yet to compete it). I'm loving this.
EDIT: Also, "He was third coming out of the snatch" so much unintentional hilarity.

I just heard on the radio about a horrible sounding injury in one of the weightlifting competitions. This was the first article I could find about it:
Weightlifting: Injury drama overshadows disappointing Kiwi totalApparently some guy blew out his elbow or something. Which is one of several reasons why I will never voluntarily attend a weightlifting competition. I'd rather not go to something where I'm constantly worried that something like that will happen and I'll become violently sick because of it.

The video of the elbow incident was on You Tube briefly, but appears to have been pulled already. It was absolutely horrific. The announcers openly asked why the network was showing replays, as a small group of staffers with boards surrounded the guy to cover the scene.
And yeah, I don't think I'd want to be involved in something where there are people standing around with boards in preparation for something like that to happen.

The article I saw had lots of still photos. Horrible, horrible injury. Someone said tv showed replays in slow motion. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, they did the same thing when Joe Theisman broke his leg during a football game back in the 80s.

A part of me wants to click on that link, but thankfully, a much larger part of me does not.
Evidently it's becoming a watercooler topic this morning though because while yesterday I heard it on a talk radio station, today I was hearing about it on both music stations that I flip between on my way to work. One station even played the audio of the broadcast where you could hear the guy screaming in the background and the announcers just sounding sick to their stomach. Yeesh.

That video is painful to watch, but it totally reminded me of the classic SNL

Well, I was coming into this thread to speculate on the use of certain slang words for female anatomy in different countries around the world, but a quick scan through the posts has made me realise we're all on the same page here. Hee!

Multiple versions of the incident appear to be all over YouTube now. Not video per se, but stills cobbled together into a horrific slideshow.

And NBC has a link to the video on their website. On the front fucking page.
Stay classy NBC.

The Men's +105 kg event was great. When Matthias Steiner kissed the photograph of his wife, who had died in a car accident, I almost cried and when German television switched over to their studio reporter in order to announce the next event, you could hear his female colleague sob in the background. Wonderful.

Awww, NBC briefly talked about Steiner at the end of tonight's primetime coverage. Very cool and I'm glad they did it. Add that to the interview they did with the woman from South Africa who swam the 10K race with one and a half legs and NBC is actually looking outside the US occasionally for their person of interest stories.

I wasn't sure where to mention it, but that was extremely classy on NBC's part. It was touching the first time I saw it and it still gets to me. I'm so glad he won gold.
