This upcoming new show from Disney Channel is a spin-off of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. This time, they'll be on a cruise ship. It'll be about Zack, Cody, & London attending a high school-at-sea program with Mr. Moseby being the manager of the ship.
The new show will air its first episode on Disney Channel on September 26th.
Here are some pictures from the show.
The Suite Life on DeckDoes any has any idea who Debby Ryan is? I've never heard of her.

Oh what to snark first......
Is it just me or does the big curly haired kid look like Chris Sligh from American Idol?
Luckily for Disney those Sprouse twins haven't grown much in the past few years. Shouldn't they have hit puberty by now?
At least Brenda Song will still be pulling a paycheque. I can't hate on her for bleeding that well dry.
I guess now that Ashley Tisdale has HSM money she could afford to pass on this tripe, good move.
This looks bad even by Disney's (recent) standards. I don't know what is sadder, this attempt to keep The Suite Life going or the fact that I know waaay too much about the players involved.

Hopefully, Cody's girlfriend (Barbara) will not show her face on this show. I despise her a lot.

If anyone has a burning urge to see the premiere of this now, the whole episode is on iTunes as a free download. It worked out nicely for us. My 5 year old is a huge Suite Life addict, and he had to have a minor surgery this morning. Just a little outpatient procedure and we came home right after, but since it was kind of his day to be spoiled and he needed to rest, it was nice that, when I went to iTunes looking for something to download to distract me while we were in the waiting room and he was in the OR, I came across this. We watched it twice today. So...
My son loved it. He says Bailey is his favorite character, followed by London. Of course, he's a 5 year old, his TV standards aren't exactly high. Personally, it struck me as very clearly a pilot episode of something, but, more importantly, it was not up to the usual "Disney Channel" standards in quality all around. The whole time we watched it, I found myself thinking "um, these are the same people who've been doing Suite Life for a few years, right? I mean, they know how to do this, don't they?" It was very "hey, it's our first time!" From the acting, to the directing, to the filming, to the sound quality, even. It was weird. Even the people who have been playing their characters for a few years seemed to not be into the swing of things. I don't see it lasting more than a season if the rest of the episodes aren't better than this. This felt like I was watching a USA Network teen show from the early 90's. Or, as Mr. KerleyQ put it, "Will the entire boat be jumping right over a shark?" Not that Suite Life was great quality television or anything, but it's award-winning compared to this pilot episode. I feel like I got a pirated copy of a filmed walk through, not the finished product.

Why is this being called a spinoff? Zack and Cody are the lead characters in both series. If, say, London were the lead, it'd be a spinoff.

The premise is dumb, but call me crazy in that I didn't hate this. Oddly I found it almost preferable to Suite Life, which I never liked anyway. I suppose in part the reason this didn't bother me is that a lot of the dumb peripheral characters from Suite Life are gone.
Also as I was never a fan of Ashley Tisdale or her Maddie persona, I don't think this show suffers much in her absence. New girl wasn't bad and seems to work with the twins. Also since more than likely the twins will be vying over her affections, I like that she looks on par with their age levels as opposed to sometimes on Suite Life where the twins love interests look ridiculously older than them.
Carrie never did much parenting anyway, so might as well just let Mr. Moseby take over that role and eliminate another useless character.
Not to mention the twins, while they will never be great actors, look a little older and therefore bother me somewhat less.
To sum it up, this show may be stupid, but it's not as bad as I expected and it's far from the worst thing on Disney Channel IMO (See Cory In the House).

So far it seems the usual fare of comedy antics and wacky mishaps. I imagine we shall end up seeing a lot of plots involving London acting spoiled in some manner and then learning a real lesson, but at sea.
I do have one question though, how are the twin old enough to be in highschool at the same time as London? I thought they were barely into double digits?

The characters themselves are, believe it or not, supposed to be in their second year of HS. (Last season was their first year, and if this school at sea is supposed to be a new school year, which I would assume, then this would be their sophomore year of HS.) Dylan and Cole Sprouse, according to IMDB, are 16, so that fits, and they could actually be juniors at that age, having turned 16 this past April. Around here, that would have put them in their junior year now. Despite the fact that they look like someone's been giving them hormones to stunt their growth and keep them show biz "cute" (I'm kidding), they're actually legitimately old enough to be playing HS kids, they just really don't look it, especially since anyone who's been watching SL is used to them being little kids.
The London issue, however, I don't get sometimes. I wonder if she's been held back at some point because of all the schools she's been kicked out of for not going to classes. That's been mentioned more than once, when she's switched to Maddie's school one season, and then to the twins' HS in the last season of the old SL. Now, on the pilot episode of this, we get a reference to her skipping classes again, and being switched to the sea school so she can't get out. That's the only thing I can think of. Or, she's a senior and they're sophomores. Because I just looked up when the episode was where she learned to drive (my son watches this show ALL the freaking time, I've seen every last detail of this stuff), and that was in the first season, originally airing in 2005. So, if we give them the benefit of the doubt and say she was just starting to learn and was 15 then, than maybe she could be 18 now and a senior? But I believe she's pretty much been in HS the whole run of the show and this is the 4th season (a new series, but three seasons of the original and a new season of this), so she'd have to be a senior now unless they're going with her being held back, as I mentioned above.
So, it's possible they'd be in HS at the same time as London, but they'd be at opposite ends of the HS spectrum--she on the way out and them just starting.

The twins are starting to look a little older and Dylan has thinned out some as well. It looks like they have lost some of their baby fat.
The London aspect is amazingly the part that is the most out there. As much as it is unbelievable an heiress would be hanging out with these kids, she has to be at least a few years older than the others. In the old setting we were at least supposed to believe that Maddie was her peer. In this show Bailey seems like she is the same age as the twins, so now London is going to be forced to hang out with the Zack and Cody all the time?

Just saw the first episode. It was better than I expected it to be. I'll miss Carrie but hopefully she'll show up now and then. I agree with others who are wondering how it is that London is now a contemporary of the twins, the only thing I can think of is that since this is obviously a very small and select school that they aren't dividing the kids up by age and that they're meant to work to the best of their ability all in the same classroom. London was always played as someone who is very immature and young for her age so in that sense I think this could work.
Never bothered me how young the twins looked for their age as I knew quite a few guys who didn't really look much older than 12 until they were practically in college.

I didn't see the very start of the show and that's what I was wondering too! Also they have a character named Woody who is meant to be very crude and worse even than Zack - it's hard to believe he's a brainiac. Maybe the school is open to anyone who can afford it (and the twins get some kind of Tipton employee discount) but they also offer scholarships to a few kids which would explain it. A bit. Or maybe they just didn't think that one through!

Brenda Song is starring in a Lifetime movie called Special Delivery, along with Lisa Edelstein (from House).
I just saw a promo for this and had to check it out. From what I've been able to find, Edelstein plays a courier who's hired to deliver a package. Come to find out the "package" is a bratty teenager (played by Song, of course) who needs to be "delivered" to her mother. From what I saw of the promo, it looked like one of those, "They start out at each other's throats but, after facing many trials and tribulations during their travels, they become the bestest of friends," type deals.
I think it will air in December. I didn't really pay attention to specifics because I was mildly shocked to see Song doing something not on Disney Channel.

I find this show to be very average. Other than Zack being Zack (I still like him.), Bailey (She's very pretty), & Mr. Moseby being charming as usual, the rest of the characters are pretty annoying.
Cody sucks as usual & I don't like it that he has a crush on Bailey. A classy person like Bailey deserves better than Cody. London is even more irritating on this show. Doesn't Disney Channel realize that dumb characters (like Chelsea on TSR, Newt on Cory in the House, Keely on POTF, and Ethan (Lizzie's crush) & Lanny (Matt's friend) from Lizzie McGuire) are not funny or even remotely amusing? I don't know very much about Woody, but he needs to get off this show ASAP. I thought that I couldn't find anyone as unlikable as Cody & London, but he's very close. He sucks on so many levels.
Thank god Debby Ryan is on this show to make it tolerable.

I don't find Debby Ryan to be all that, to tell you the truth. Her acting is passable, at best, and her inexperience definitely shines through. And her character is very generic. She's pretty. (Though everyone talking about how drop dead gorgeous she's supposed to be throws me.) She's nice. She's smart. A lead character likes her and she doesn't notice. Not groundbreaking stuff. Then again, I've only seen about half of three episodes, so maybe she's done something to really make her character stand out from the rest of the show that I haven't seen.

Word to this entire post. IMO Bailey is just a younger version of Maddie of the original Suite Life, except Zach liked Maddie, and Cody likes Bailey, though I believe they both liked Bailey in the first episode. Like the Maddie character, I find the Bailey character very bland and dull. The "I'm from a small town" schtick is wearing thin.
That said, I love Brenda Song, and wish the character of London was not so stupid. It is almost to Eric Matthews level of dumbed down.

I find Brenda Song to be woefully out of place on this show. She fit in with Maddie on the original show, but here she just seems too much older to fit in with these younger teens. Either Brenda needs to move on to more adult roles, or they need to let London grow up and be an adult. She just doesn't belong in high school with these kids.

Such is the case in all sitcoms. Find the character who's a little dim in the beginning and over time you'll find them borderline lobotomized (see Crissy Snow, Kelly Bundy, Joey Tribbiani).
Unlike "The Tis'" Brenda Song hasn't hit her tipping point. She doesn't have a DCOM that put her in a bigger spotlight (Wendy Wu is no HSM), nor does she have a singing career to try and carve out. She seems comfortable staying with the Mouse as long as possible.

Well, she just did a Lifetime movie, which tells me she does want to spread her wings beyond Disney Channel. But it's not as easy as just wanting to do it. And even though I cannot stand London, I can't blame her for sticking with a sure thing while she pursues other opportunities.
The unfortunate thing about the Lifetime movie is that she's playing a bratty teenager in that one, too, so it's not that much of a stretch. But it

I just meant "non-Disney" as in not on Disney Channel, and not something made specifically for a tween audience. As a rule, most people don't connect Disney and Lifetime in their minds, so doing something on Lifetime would be a good chance for a young actress to start creating a more mature image in the minds of viewers (and casting directors).
Other DC stars have actually done Lifetime movies. Danielle Panabaker played a teen-aged mother in one, and Sarah Paxton played a college-aged binge drinker in another. And here's Brenda Song playing a role pretty similar to the ones she's been playing on Disney for years and years. But at least it's away from Disney.

I wonder if they're trying to cut costs on this series, because the only cast members who seem to be in every episode are the twins and Brenda Song. Everyone else kind of comes and goes as storyline dictates. Bailey, Woody, Moseby, and the teacher have all gone missing at various times (does the teacher even have a role on the show anymore?). Debby Ryan is the one who surprises me, in terms of being offscreen, just because Bailey is one of the leads, or at least that's the impresson I got from the beginning. Woody, Moseby, and the teacher all fall into the supporting category, so their absences aren't as surprising. I was wondering if Debby was filming something else that necessitated her being off the Suite Life canvas for a while, but the most recent non-Suite Life credit on her IMDB page is a movie that released in August 2008, so I can't see that affecting episodes that are airing this Spring. And I don't know how large her role even was in the movie, given how far down the cast list she is.

Because I don't like Cody at all & such a sweet person like Bailey deserves better. I rather see Bailey with Zack. At least, Zack got some charm in him.
Frankly, I never liked Cody. One of the few times that I liked him was when Zack made him entered a beauty pageant for money. It was very funny. Other than that, I can't stand him. He's very whiny, not funny, too much of a goody-goody, too smart for his britches, & very annoying. Cody is always being condescending towards Zack & I don't like it at all. Plus, he didn't like Agnes while on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and that made me very unhappy. Besides, Agnes is very pretty (unlike Barbara) and him & Agnes would of made a cute couple and we wouldn't had to put up with Barbara.

Agreed. Except, I don't think Agnes was going to grow up to become a stalker, I think she was already there, what with the showing up at his suite all the time, talking to his mother like she was already involved with him, etc. She was equally stalkery with Zach when she had a thing for him. Cody may have a crush on Bailey, but he's nowhere in the same ballpak when it comes to how aggressive he is in pursuing that crush. He doesn't do things that clearly make Baily uncomfortable. The only things he's done that were even aggressive were when he read her answers on that dating survey and tried to do the things she said she was interested in from a guy, and when he lied about her being his girlfriend to Barbara and Bob and tried to act like they were dating during the movie. Neither of those came close to making her as uncomfortable and creeped out as all the stuff Agnes did to Cody made him feel.
Also agreed on the looks not being the main reason to date anyone. Especially on a Disney show aimed at kids, I like that the girls involved typically aren't these stick thin, teenage beauty queen looks, they're just "normal" girls.
