From Kevin Murphy a writer/producer of "Desperate Housewives" premieres Sunday 14th September 8pm:

"Valentine, Inc" revolves around Greek gods living among us. Gersh-repped Polaha ("Miss Guided") will play Danny, aka Eros. Baker will play Leo, aka Hercules. Reeser ("The O.C.") will play Phoebe, aka the Goddess of the Oracle at Delphi. She is repped by APA and Kritzer/Levine/Wilkins.

The series is a fun, innovative spin on the criminal procedural format, but instead of solving crimes, the private investigator mends broken hearts and reconnects soul mates. Business takes an unusual turn after the hiring of a mysterious, seductive woman as office manager

Aphrodite comes to earth with her son (and his friends it seems) to matchmake. This sounds very much like the CW doing a younger skewing version of "Cupid", which seeing as it is also being remade this year is a little weird. Not to mention match making shows haven't had the best reception over the years.

The only reason I'm interested in this is the fact that Autumn Reeser is in it and she was great as the highlight of S4 of the OC. That and wondering how badly the network will massacre the Greek Pantheon, Pheobe the female Oracle anyone?
under the neon
I really hope this show is good.
I miss Taylor Townsend.
Last Time Lord
It appears that CW has dropped the ",Inc" from the title.

I think this show looks like it's going to be cute sunday night fluff, which I am all for.

Supposedly, Lauren Cohan, late of Supernatural is in the pilot, so that's another reason for me to watch.
lynettefl
I was surprised to learn that Christine Lakin is starring on this show.

Jaime Murray (Grace) looks much older than her biological age. She's 31 years old but looks over 40 years old, at least on this show.
mysticowl
I like it. It's fluffy and very cheesy, but it knows it's cheesy and pokes fun at itself. Hence, "I love Cheese" was funniest line of the Pilot.

And how funny would that romance novel scene would have been if the guy was Fabio?

So, I'm going to give it a chance. Looks it's going to be a good hour of fluffy entertainment.

Any guesses on who Aphrodite's (ex?)-husband was? Hephaestus if they stuck to mythology, right?

She did call him over to fix the table and he did say that he could make a silencer for Danny's gun, so I think you maybe right. I think they're going to skip over the whole Eros's parents are brother and sister storyline.
mysticowl
I think they're going to skip over the whole Eros's parents are brother and sister storyline.

I thought Aphrodite didn't have parents? Wasn't she born from seafoam?
Stoicananess
I thought Aphrodite didn't have parents? Wasn't she born from seafoam?

Technically she was born from the seafoam created when Kronus cut of Ouranos' genitals and tossed them into the sea. So, as convoluted as the Greek Pantheon tends to be (Athena jumping out of Zeus' head fully formed after he swallows Metis, anyone?), Aphrodite could sort of be interpreted as being the daughter of Ouranos?

Maybe?
mjcapri28
According to this website there are different stories on Aphrodites origins, in one she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione and the other on says she was born from seafoam. I'm more familiar with the former story.
While A Coyote
Gee... so Rob Thomas is brought on by The CW to do 90210, and falls out with them. Then ABC announces Rob's going to come out with a new version of Cupid for them. Then The CW comes out with a quicky tossed together Cupid clone, but throws in a few extra deities.

Smells a bit fishy to me...
Last Time Lord
How the hell did that orgasm scene make it to air on CW? Same with Leo's hand gesture at Roland's apartment.

I really liked this. Cute and fun, and I really liked the aspect that the gods could become mortal if they remain irrelevant to the world.
janie jones
I think they got away with the orgasm by saying it wasn't sexual, just "pure love."

I liked this a lot more than I expected to, and I was very happy to see the guy who played Tim on Miss Guided. I'm not sure whether I like the writer, though.
RandomNation
I was preparing for this to be entirely horrible, but...it was pretty decent. I'll be tuning in next week. There was just something very...charming about it, I guess.

The opening scene with Grace twirling about as the camera panned out felt very magical to me. Sounds lame I know.

Lauren Cohan can act? WTF? Please don't tell me that was all Supernatural making her suck because I don't think I could believe that. Its freaking me out thinking about it...

That orgasm scene was hilarious! Oh man...its moments like those that make me appreciate just how under the radar the WB/CW is. That was just...awesome. LOL.
Tari
Cute show. Not great, but it was just the pilot.

I was having problems with the sound on my TV, so I didn't hear the whole conversation between Grace and the guy who fixed her table. Was that Ares? He mentioned something about her husband.
ShadowDenizen
I liked this, actually. (Of course, I was also a fan of "Cupid", though, so no surprise there!!)

Besides, anything that gets Autumn Reeser on my TV screen every week is OK by me.
Last Time Lord
I'm not sure whether I like the writer, though.

I thought she was brought into the story too late. The promos made it seem like she was the audience avatar, thrown into this world and helping the gods, but the gods really are the focus of the show.

The opening scene with Grace twirling about as the camera panned out felt very magical to me. Sounds lame I know.

I don't think it sounds lame at all. I loved that scene. I had a huge smile on my face the entire time.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but have any ratings news come in, yet? I've been seeing a lot of promos for the Sunday night line-up -- more than I expected to, to be honest.
Darn
This seemed like old school WB to me. High concept, low budget, cute show.

Cupid is the neighbor from Mad Men, Francine's husband.
Featherhat
Yeah, they're pretty much really bad, but no worse than I expected.

Reality series In Harm’s Way opened the evening with a mere 676,000 viewers and a 0.3 rating/1 share among adults 18-49 from 7-8 p.m. One year earlier, failed magazines CW Now (Viewers: 790,000, A18-49: 0.3/ 1 on Oct. 7, 2007) and Online Nation (Viewers: 700,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1) averaged 745,000 viewers and a 0.3/ 1 in the demo on Oct. 7, 2007. Next was the premiere of the scripted Valentine at 1.10 million viewers and a 0.3/ 1 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m., which was down from year-ago failed occupant Life Is Wild (Viewers: 1.65 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 1 on Oct. 7, 2007) by 550,000 viewers and 25 percent in the demo. And the premiere of drama Easy Money dropped to 1.08 million viewers and a 0.4/ 1 among adults 18-49. One year earlier was a repeat of America’s Next Top Model at 1.35 million viewers and a 0.5/ 1 in the demo. Needless to say, last-place the CW must really be cringing day. Horrible…just horrible!

It's not like MRC has a lot of other options so I think that it will stay for the time being.

I liked it. It was nothing special but way better than I thought it would be seeing the promos. And they got a few good quips in there "and "that's when he turned into a neutered caretaker who pretends to like "Grey's Anatomy" and "The oracle is not a peep show". I really enjoyed Autumn Reeser's kooky Pheobe.

I agree I thought the novelist was going to be the audience POV on the episode drawing us into their world at the beginning, maybe she'll have more next week.
biakbiak
I agree about the novelist, I kept wondering if she was brought on later or something, I think it would have almost worked better as a two parter because her finding out they are goods and figuring out a solution to the soulmates all seemed way too rushed.
hilaryvm
I never studied Greek mythology, so I was having a bit of a time keeping up with who the various 'gods' were. I did read "Gods Behaving Badly" recently, so I was trying to match them up to that (some of the basic plot is the same - people stop believing, they lose their magic, living in the normal world, etc.)

It was a little more whimsical than I thought it would be, but I'm not sure how well it can sustain itself for a whole season (if it makes it that far).
tjl
I was entertained more than I thought I'd be. I watched because of Autumn and I think I'll keep watching for the moment.

It really should have been a two-parter. The resolution to the soulmates was rushed. After all, all they did was a) take Roland out to the bar and get him to have a drunken hook-up with his soulmate and b) dump them off in the middle of nowhere to talk after the writer prepped Joanna first.
caper24
I'm with ShadowDenizen. Anything that puts Autumn Reeser on my screen week after week, I'm there.

This was kinda fun. Cupid without the doubt as to the "god"'s sanity. I did get a kick out of Hephaestus showing up to fix the table, etc.

It was a fun hour, and I like fun hours of tv. So I'll be back.
Last Time Lord
Those ratings make me want to cry.

The Sunday line-up was created independently of The CW-proper, right? What exactly happened there, again?

My favorite line from the pilot was "I've got a plan and it involves shooting things" I am so working that into real life whenever I possibly can.
LurkerNan
I liked it, but I wasn't expecting much. It was right up there with Xena's take on the mythical gods. Funny and stupid at the same time... but that "pure love" scene was a riot.
hilaryvm
Man, that scene from the romance novel had me laughing hysterically. It reminded me of a Joan Wilder novel (Romancing the Stone).

The first half of the show was sorta iffy for me (not terrible, not enough to make me want to watch again) but after hooking up with the romance novelist, the show gave me a serious case of the giggles. It just was campy fun.
Last Time Lord
This is such a feel good show, I love it.

We got ourselves an inkling of an arcing plotline with Ari mentioning of a potential plot against the Greek gods, and then with Phoebe's vision of Grace dead that she got from Kate's hair.

That was pretty shocking, actually.

I really liked the Soul Mates Du Jour. I really hope this show survives.
mybabyaidan
Are we sure that was Kate's hair she found? I was thinking back to if Ari had been in that room before. But he had dark hair and Kate has blonde. Maybe I am over thinking it?
Tari
This episode was definitely better than the pilot. Though, I think this week's soulmates could've used a little more airtime. I loved the Grace's lovelife subplot, but I think it went a little too long.

I think what Phoebe saw was Kate's idea for a new book and she mentally cast Grace as the lead character.
While A Coyote
I don't typically think I'm going to dedicate actual prime-time viewing to this show, but I was bored last night. I'd seen the previous episode on Hulu, and that's probably where this show will generally fall for me--watching when convenient.

This episode was definitely better than the pilot. Though, I think this week's soulmates could've used a little more airtime.

The R.O.T.W. almost seemed like the "B" plot this week though. That's a bad precedent for any show like this.

The Sunday line-up was created independently of The CW-proper, right? What exactly happened there, again?

Not sure who's idea it was originally, but it was basically "cash for airtime". It always struck me as kind of odd, since I'd bet that ALL of the airtime on MyNetworkTV, or whatever they are calling that these days, is probably available to the highest bidder.
hilaryvm
I liked the pilot well enough, but I started watching this episode and after the first commercial break, I just couldn't bring myself to watch it anymore. I wanted to like it, but I suppose it crossed the cheesy line for me.
While A Coyote
The opening scene with Grace twirling about as the camera panned out felt very magical to me. Sounds lame I know.

The one thing I have to compliment this show on is the casting of Aphrodite (Grace is kind of a stupid name for her I think, so lets just call her who and what she really is). On one hand the whole "cast an English actress because she SEEMS classier to ignorant Americans" thing always seems kind of crass to me. On the other hand, I think this actress has an interesting look and presence which works well. IMDB reveals that the actress, Jaime Murray, is actually only 31 years old. In one way it may be kind of unflattering to her to say she looks older. But in another, she actually looks appropriate, because instead of looking old she looks kind of timeless. You can comprehend her being the mother of the mid-twenties looking Danny/Eros without it seeming silly (yes, he's not really mid-twenties, he's thousands of years old, but the point is more about how they "look" together as mother and son).

I liked the pilot well enough, but I started watching this episode and after the first commercial break, I just couldn't bring myself to watch it anymore. I wanted to like it, but I suppose it crossed the cheesy line for me.

At best this may qualify as a "guilty pleasure". And in the tradition of shows like "Charmed", that's going to come with a whole lot of pain. Or belly laughs at our own expense.

To me? If I'm bored I'll watch. That's about the extent of the potential devotion.
Featherhat
I enjoyed it more than I thought it would, much better than the pilot. It's a guilty pleasure but it's a lot of fun.

"There's a reason, darling no one every wrote a song called "All You Need is War." And the plotting to make Putin fall in love with Carla Bruni. The couple this week was much more interesting as well and the Bollywood musical scene was fun.

I agree Jamie Murray looks older than 31 but definitely has a timeless quality. Also enjoying Autumn Reeser's small but cute and quirky contributions.
Puds38
This caught my eye last week solely because I remembered Jaimie Murray as the nutcase girlfriend Dexter met in NA last season. She looks like she may have eaten a sandwich or two, which suits her, it makes her believable as a curvy, sexy Aphrodite.

As for the show itself, it's okay, but not must see. I'll watch it if I'm home with nothing to do.
Last Time Lord
Are we sure that was Kate's hair she found?

Phoebe picked it off of the pillow Kate's head was resting on all night. If it isn't Kate's it'll be an awfully big coincidence.

This caught my eye last week solely because I remembered Jaimie Murray as the nutcase girlfriend Dexter met in NA last season.

She was Lila? Holy crap, I never made the connection.
Bruinsfan
She was the first thing I noticed, as my reaction upon discovering the show was "Oh crap, not Psycho British Chick again!" But then the show waved Kristoffer Polaha in front of me and my residual love for Miss Guided kept me from changing the channel.
Teen Titan
I love this, even though it's cheesy as hell. Oh, Autumn Reeser, why must you be so delightful?

But there's not a hope in hell of it going past 13. Hell, I'll be surprised if it gets that far sadly.
tjl
I have to admit that I probably wouldn't keep watching if it wasn't for Autumn. Even in her small role, she's awesome which is enough for me.

I agree that it's doubtful that the show will get to the full 13. Thankfully, it shouldn't be difficult for Autumn to get another role so I can keep watching her on TV. I'd like it if she could get a recurring role on Chuck if this show dies.
Teen Titan
So is anyone buying the 'It was a scheduled shut-down in production, and we still plan to go ahead with the full 13 episode' order line coming out of the production company?
Last Time Lord
I've never heard that before.

Is there a link?
mindmat

Last Time Lord
The guy playing Tucker seemed so familar to me, yet could not place him.

I loved that Phoebe got to play a role in getting the soul mates together. An added level to the mystery of the vision was added. The cloacked person that tempered with the Oracle being Kate is way too obvious and easy.

I'm sure there are some Greek Mythological beings that could be behind it.
janie jones
Did you watch Veronica Mars, Last Time Lord? He was Mercer on that.

There's no way it's Kate tampering with the Oracle. Also, I wish when Phoebe was talking about the book, he'd pointed out that maybe she was reading up on the gods because she wanted to know more about who she was working with. I mean, I would.
lauralius

It clicked for me about halfway through the episode. I was mildly concerned about him being crazy again, but pleasantly delighted for him to have a happy ending. Ryan Devlin is just adorable.
Last Time Lord
YES! Thank you! I knew I had seen him before.

I'm a little shocked there no immediate repercussions to Phoebe and Leo burning down Kate's apartment, other than a few mentions of guilt.
immaf
I sampled this show last night because the premise intrigued me. But overall, it left me cold.

And it made me yell at my television. You would think that on a show ostensibly based in Greek mythology, in which Hercules is main character, that SOMEBODY would know that one of the Labors of Hercules was to clean the "Augean" stables. (An "au" sound to start, and a hard g) Not the "Aegean" stables.

I will not watch again.
Tari

That didn't bother me (I'm just happy the stables were mentioned), but Grace saying Phoebe was a Titan (not a Titaness) and saying the Titans are reincarnated after they die drove me up the wall.

I wonder if the damage to the Oracle was just temporary or if it'll still be wrong next week.
cjuniverse
She is a Titan, regardless of her sex. That's her title. She doesn't need to be called a Titaness, it's implied because she is after all a woman. Plus, Titaness sounds weird.

And what's wrong with Titans being reincarnated. Their just changing things up a bit. Nothing wrong with that. It is afterall based on mythology, not factology.

I wonder who's pouring that stuff into the oracle "bowl". Was it Kate? or someone else?

It's not a bad show. I actually find it more interesting and entertaining than 90210 (been there, done that) and Gossip Girl (bore).
Rockstar99435
This show is delightful. I like all of the characters. Even Phoebe, who in a different show would annoy the crap out of me, is fun and sweet. I loved how excited Heracules was for her in her new job. I also liked how the soulmates of the week weren't a new couple, but an old couple who lost their way.
rayray
I think I'm becoming a Danny/Kate shipper. I noticed a little sparkage between the two in last week's episode.
Teen Titan
I love this. So I assume it will be cancelled anyday now. As long as I get 13, I'll be happy.

Phoebe is by far my favourite. She's hilarious. Everyone just seems to be having fun. I love shows that are just purely enjoyable. Why is it that people dismiss them so readily? Isn't that what a television show is meant to be? Enjoyable and entertaining?

Leo is hot. Am I mistaken or is there a romantic spark between he and Phoebe?
