Why do we have s8 if we don't have them? Who is going to run the show? IS it anyone who even knows the show or the shows fans? What the hell is going on? Why are they leaving?
Say what one will about Almiles, but I mean...they made the show and wrote great eps and at least set a tone and were predictable to a degree. And I've never, ever doubted they fought for the story THEY wanted to tell. And I just don't wanna see the end of it stop being their show... but I guess it will.
I... god. Why are they going again?
I personally think this is terrible.

I'm totally panicking!!! So what happens now? Who is going to take over the show? Are they going to do whatever the want to?
I mean how can they leave NOW! The just leave the show full of problems and let us hanging? Who is going to tell the last season then?
I don't like this either!
Like Chiri said if they are leaving why are we having a S8?
What will happen with our ten episodes to wrap the story!?

Is the network on CRACK?!
Even if people haven't always agreed with Almiles, SV is THEIR story. It's THEIR vision. It should end with them. This is like that pathetic turn of Gilmore Girls in the last season. NO!!!!!!
This never works. It is always BAD news to change showrunners. S8 is going to suck.
The CW is run by crack monkeys. No wonder it is going down the toilet despite having primo shows to start with. The management doesn't know what they are doing. Pay Almiles what they want IDIOTS. And MR and AM too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could yell at someone. This is STUPID.

Am I the only person laughing their ass off right now? Maybe it's the shock. I'm actually shocked, but still laughing. If that's a joke, Craig, you win at life!
Hopefully, this means Michael will move on too and then I'll be free. Free!!! Oh, and welcome to the boardz, MayPhoenix.

I am just stunned. Stunned!
As much crap as I gave AlMiles, I always thought of this as their show. And now, they're leaving? I just didn't see this coming. Now who runs the show? AlMiles should be finishing their story, and no one else. I'm really confused as to how we went from Al pushing for a S8, to this.
And yeah, the last season of Gilmore Girls is coming to my mind as well, and it's not a pretty thought.
I feel like writing off the show after the S7 finale, because who's to know what we've got coming next season?
myankskent
Apr 2, 2008 @ 11:39 pm
I think that they should probably just end the show now at 7 seasons. I may not like everything that Al/Miles have done with this show, but them leaving with only one more season to go is ridiculous. Weren't they the ones who wanted to go the extra season, promising that they had more stories to tell? This makes no sense. In addition to that, Gough has actually made statements about next season already in interviews. If he is no longer a part of the show for season 8, then why is he delivering news about it?

This is horrible!
I can't believe another show on the CW is going to lose it's showrunners in the last season. I loved the episodes AlMiles wrote, I wanted to see their vision of Smallville. I am scared at what's in store for s8.
Ugh! I feel ill now.

I'm not scared of losing AlMiles - I'm scared of who might be buying into this... That concerns me more. Assuming it true.

Apr 2, 2008 @ 11:52 pm
I don't know if it's true or not. I don't know how I feel if it is true. On one hand, they're idiots and maybe someone smart and talented could take it over. On the other hand, for better or worse, it is their vision and I don't want a radically different version of the show. I stuck with it because what they offered was, in its own way, unique and special. But if it is true, next year we might lose most of the major cast and the showrunners. So who's idea was it to renew for S8?
myankskent
Apr 2, 2008 @ 11:52 pm
I find it hard to believe that this won't impact actors returning next season as well. If you're MR, would you want to return to the show next season after the creators of the series decided to bail?

I'd actually prefer the devil I know in this situation. Someone completely new will just be a disaster. I mean, did I agree with Darth Goughlar most of the time? No. But at least I knew what to expect. And, let's be honest. I'm still watching. I obviously enjoyed a majority of what was being put on the screen.

I totally agree. The coming days should be interesting.
Also, can I say that the most important thing about who is going to take over is whether or not we can mash their names together. Goughlar was just way too much fun to give up.
Thanks for posting that,

If this is true (and my first thought was it was a late April Fool's joke) I agree something major must've gone down for this to happen.
This is as sudden as...well, as the merger of the WB and UPN. And, even with that, there were some hints beforehand that all wasn't well. (The WB laying off a bunch of people, reports of UPN being on the brink of folding, etc.)
With this, there weren't even any hints. At least, none that I've seen or heard.

no no no no no. Not good. They are equally as important as TW, MR, AM and KK in my eyes. You can't just leave when its so close to the finish line! I'm sorry but TW isn't enough for me to keep watching. If someone who doesn't value MR and AM takes over, the show is over for me.

Hey, if Biller does come back in a big way, I'm all for it (if Michael returns for S8, that is). "Shattered" is easily the best episode of the series, in my opinion. The possibility of that kind of awesomeness on SV again? Bring it.
Well, the show will probably
never be as great as S3 again, but hey, at least there might be hope. Maybe? Eh, I'd still rather be done watching after this year. I'm nearly out of enthusiasm for this show.

I say good riddance to bad rubbish. Could the new producers botch continuity and characterizations any worse than those two clowns? I can't imagine (outside of some of the writers) the new ones writing scads of episodes about Clark crying his stupid eyes out over Lana? I'm not crying any tears if they either 1) got their asses kicked out or 2) ran away because they don't get to play with Lana for a full season.
The only vision Goughlar has consistently shown is people fighting over who gets to bang the Lang.

ITA! This is Almiles' show. It's almost over. ONE MORE YEAR. Did those idiots at the CW learn NOTHING from the disaster known as the last season of Gilmore Girls? Showrunners are not fungible. Beeman's loss was very apparent, but THIS?! Come on. Horrible idea.

Apr 3, 2008 @ 1:29 am
See, the thing that scares me was the tone of the last line of the letter. "We never stopped fighting to make this show great." I might be worrying over nothing, but that sounds to me like they are scared of who's coming on board, or scared that the show is going to go downhill.
I can't knock the feeling that "what's coming... is so terrible." But I'm probably just freaking myself out.
But hey, it's so coincidental that they're leaving just as KK is. Ha.

I do think it is a bit funny that the season with the less Lana, AlMiles won't be a part of. I'm just worried about their creation, and not just the show itself. I'm worried about the Chloe Character, does she leave with them?

I agree, you would think for someone who was eager about getting extra seasons would be sticking around. All this time we were worrying about MR and AM coming back, the show's creators aren't even coming back. The thing is, do all the cast now need new contracts while under new producers or no?

Apr 3, 2008 @ 1:49 am
My faith in this show is based on their albeit sometimes twisted vision for this show. I've felt for a long time (backed up by the 10 episode arc of glory comment) that they clearly knew how this story was going to end. Now I just don't know what will happen.
I am still bitter about what happened with Gilmore Girls. I know the replacement tried to be true to the show but not only was the pace off, it was like an rudderless ship, meandering lazily about. He was deluded thinking they could get another season out of the mix and as such sacrificed the payoff of watching for the previous 6 years. As much as they might try to say the show ended in a good spot, it was a gaping hole of incompleteness. My Gilmore Girls obsession exceeded my Smallville one, but I'm still too bitter about the ending to consider picking up the last season dvd's.
Now I'm supposed to do this all over again? Has the CW learned nothing? Almiles specifically mention fighting for their vision. Did they lose the fight in the end? Letting them completely go is a terrible idea. This is their show and without them, next season might as well be a reboot and I for one do not trust anyone else to know all the subtleties that have gone into the mix.
The thing is, do all the cast now need new contracts while under new producers or no?
The cast's contracts are seperate from the show runners. They are tied to the show, not the producer.

Actually, there have been cases where a show has "changed hands," and ended up being even better. Star Trek: The Next Generation is the first example that springs to my mind. (Trekkie that I am.) It became a far superior show after its "change in leadership."
Basically, it all depends on who ends up running things, what their vision is, whether they actually care about making season 8 great, or are just there to sort of mark time until the series finale, whether they take the time to learn all they can about the show and characters (if they aren't already familiar with it), etc.
I will say that a major change so late is very odd. But whether it's good or bad, we'll see.

Cannot process this. I do not take change well.
What's the real reason? This is very sudden and it had to be precipitated by something? Even the tone of letter sounds slightly wounded, as if they left in a fit of pique. What went down? This is killing me!!!!

Apr 3, 2008 @ 2:09 am
Going back to the whole Peterson interview thing... When was that given? I wonder if the the comments about S8 were retracted because the same people aren't running the show and thus don't have any say in what's going to happen. If so, it seems like this decision was really, really sudden.
Could this have anything to do with that lawsuit over Superman's rights thing?
Good question. Did they win any rights to control Superman? They apparently have an equal share in copyright, but I can't see them immediately turning their attention to
Smallville (although with the way this show has screwed around with the mythos, it's probably what I would do, hehe). Could they even do anything?

I don't worry about there being a season 8. I do worry now about there being a season 9 (meaning they will try to reboot the show and keep going) and I worry that the Peterson interview is indicitive of where the new guys might go.

Apr 3, 2008 @ 2:29 am
What's really bothering me is that this happened so suddenly. I wasn't a huge GG fan, but I knew in advance about the possibility of Amy Sherman-Palladino (sorry if I mangled that name) not returning to finish the show. This, however, came directly out of left field. Al talked for a LONG time about getting the show to eight seasons, but never that he and Miles didn't want to do eight themselves. In fact, they've talked for a long time about having a plan for the series' final batch of episodes. Now they're saying we'll never get AlMiles' ending? The ending is what I've been waiting for, for crying out loud.
So basically, what the hell just happened?
