I am really pleasantly surprised by this new show on NickJr. This is essentially a Mandarin version of Dora. Like Dora, I wish that they would incorporate a bit more Mandarin into the show, but it is a decent introduction for young children who have had little exposure to the language. Although I think it is geared for preschoolers, my nearly 6 year old daughter enjoys the show. She has been taking Mandarin for the past year and this is the first children's show she has been able to what which incorporates this language.

My 2 1/2 yr old son loves this show too. It's nice for him to see a show that shows Chinese culture (being that he's half Chinese :) Although it's funny because when my husband tries to watch it with him he says the characters speak to quickly for him to pick up what they are saying in Chinese :)

So glad I found this thread. I think it's great that this show exists to teach kids a new language/culture (or their heritage language/culture). One nitpick, though: the main character's name is interesting. Are they trying to get kids to eat their vegetables, because Kai-Lan kind of sounds like the vegetable, kailan (I realize that the "lan" is pronounced slightly differently, but it's close enough!).
