From NBCUMV.com:

Chuck (Zachary Levi) accidentally runs into a fellow government agent who seems to be living a similar life. It turns out this agent is a gadget whiz, whose brain makes him a national security asset and a dangerous liability, much like Chuck. Chuck faces a predicament whether he should help turn this agent into Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) and Casey (Adam Baldwin) or help this agent escape his handlers. Meanwhile, Halloween, a holiday that means a lot to Chuck and Morgan (Joshua Gomez) as buddies, proves to be a little different this year as Morgan feels that Chuck is neglecting both their childhood and friendship. Also starring Sarah Lancaster and Ryan McPartlin.

OMG what the heck is CAPTAIN AWESOME doing saying "Outstanding" ?!
SassandtheCity
Yay to the shout-out to the OC episode "THe Countdown." That made me squee a lot.
DumbBrunette
SANDWORM!

And yay episode which was very cool and dramatic and absolutely adorable at the end. But dang it if the sandworm was not the best part.
OMG what the heck is CAPTAIN AWESOME doing saying "Outstanding" ?!

See, that cracked me up. He's trying to expand his vocabulary, at least in front of Chuck.
A Big Potato
It's official. This is now my favorite show.
kariyaki
But dang it if the sandworm was not the best part.

I can't decide if the best part was the Tribute to HoYay scene of Chuck and Morgan across a crowded room, or Sarah in the Princess Leia bikini.
Roll the dice
Best. thing. ever.

I don't know how many of you watched "The OC," but the whole countdown thing was practically word for word like "The Countdown" episode. I mean the music, the party, the slo mo, the angsty looks between Morgan and Chuck. As a previous watcher of Josh Schwartz shows, this had to be one of the funniest scenes I have ever watched. Ever.
KeyserSoze

I can't stand Morgan but that sequence was absolutely hilarious.

SANDWORM!

Yeeees!

The first time Cappy walked out in his Adam costume I almost died laughing. It was just so..shocking. Shockingly awesome that is. I expected nothing less.

And man did Ellie look smoking in her Eve costume.

And Casey in his robe. Poor, poor Casey.

Observations:

--Love Captain Awesome's TOTALLY awesome costume. Also... the Hoyay appears to be going TOTALLY off the scale with the portrayal of the good Captain. He's naked, as Adam, and says to Chuck "wanna see my snake?" Um. Not me personally, but...
--At the next Commercial break though, I found myself thinking that Jerry Seinfeld singing the "Superchicken" theme is the FIRST and so far ONLY actual funny "Bee Movie" commercial I've seen.
--Robert Duncan McNeil directed tonight? It's weird having a Star Trek connection here.
--Chuck asking Sarah to stay (and the scene afterwards) was awkward, touching and funny all at once. Also, the Comicon pic? Disturbing.
--Chuck compares the lab guy to "Q", but honestly he's more like Alias' Marshall. Only Eeeevil.
--The Awesome/Morgan sequence was hilarious. Weird ass wacky music, but kind of funny.
--LOVE Casey's scorn at Chuck and Morgan's recorded blathering (also: LOVE the way they follow up on that joke at the end of the episode with that LOVELY look of pain of Casey's face...). And Casey's sequence of phone messages to Chuck? Another GREAT Casey bit.
--When AREN'T Ejection seats funny, I wonder? NEVER.
--Pimp Mike, Suited Morgan or Cowboy Tang? It's kind of hard to decide which was funnier. And I LOVED Harold Tiberius Tang. Great joke.
--Sexy Kitty and Princess Leia costumes rule! Sandworms? Not so much.

[cleaned up a bit, because its been pointed out to me that stream of consciousness observations can be kind of onboxious]

Let's see, shoutouts:
Tang's middle name is Tiberius
The Herder's self destruct stopped on 007
Sarah dressed up as Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi, the Holy Grail for nerds.

And Awesome was....outstanding.

Chucks first take, then double take, then triple take as well as taking a step backwards was great.

How you know you haven't watched The OC in a while: You missed the Countdown reference. D'OH! Now I can see it. I definitely need to rewatch my DVDs.
specialj67
I don't know how many of you watched "The OC," but the whole countdown thing was practically word for word like "The Countdown" episode. I mean the music, the "I didn't think you were coming, I got held up" lines

I knew it was exactly like an epi. of The O.C. but I couldn't remember which one!
shortpplfedup
Maybe I'm easy, but up until the Bond movie I wasn't sure whether Lazlo or his handler was the bad guy. Good job, show. And Awesome schooling Morgan was...awesome.

I'm so excited for next week!

Tang's middle name is Tiberius

Maybe Robert Duncan McNeil inserted that one...

I never watched The O.C., so my favorite part? The very end, when Chuck is talking sandwiches again to Morgan because he knows it's going to annoy Casey, and the look on Casey's face. Awesome! Second to that is Chuck wanting Sarah to stay in his room for the length of the Arcade Fire album, and how awkward they were.

Another great ep, with moments both funny (Captain Awesome dressing Morgan for success) and poignant (the pic Sarah takes of her and Chuck at the end). And apropos of nothing, I loved Jeff and the other guy (sorry, don't remember his name) dressing up as the Grant Wood painting. And I loved Ellie's line "Do you really want me to answer that question?" when Morgan asked her if he was really immature, not so much the line as the way she said it, like it would hurt. It's nice to see the continuity from last week when she was feeling more charitable towards him.
immaf
It's the little things that always amuse me. Did anyone else notice that Casey has a framed picture of Ronald Reagan on his desk?

I loved every second that Captain Awesome was on screen.

Morgan continues to bug. I hate how needy he is. But he did clean up nice.
AimingforYoko
New show, coming on Bravo, featuring Captain Awesome: Straight Eye for the Nerd Guy.

Robert Duncan McNeil directed tonight? Weird having a Star Trek connection here.
He has a producer's credit now. Moved up in the world he has.

I'm not even an OC fan, but that entire sequence had me cracking up.

Great episode all the way around. The last part of the episode, with the sandwich discussion had me cracking up more than I thought I would.

As someone whose first "scary movie" was Dune (this at like 8 years old), I LOVED the costume reference.
nishajones
I burst out laughing the instant Captain Awesome arrived on screen in his teeny leafy bikini. The ho-yay quotient for this episode was off the charts (Morgan-Awesome, Morgan-Chuck, Casey-Chuck, did they miss anyone?)

The Morgan vs the nuclear fridge gag at the beginning was disgusting. (More so because I had just switched the channel from Adam upchucking on Mythbusters like... 3 seconds earlier. Not cool, universe, not cool.

I really like the way that naturally-trusting Chuck is trying to learn to fit into a world where he can't trust people. As campy as this show can get at times, the emotional responses of the characters seem real.

Like someone said a few posts back, definitely my new favorite show.
GandalftheFunky
Big old thumbs up to Sarah in the Leia costume. Holy crap. The picture was good, but seeing her in live action wearing it was tremendous. She gets hotter every week.

I've really liked some of the Morgan moments the last couple of weeks. The show is doing a good job of growing the character on me.

+1 on the Awesome scenes, he's such a great character. And I find myself falling more in love with Ellie more every week as well. Loved Sarah Lancaster as Gift Shop Girl, and the more she is on screen the better. Ellie is a wonderful character.
kariyaki
Robert Duncan McNeil directed tonight? Weird having a Star Trek connection here.
He has a producer's credit now. Moved up in the world he has.

Apropros of nothing, RDM's co-star, Roxann Dawson, has a producer credit on Cold Case. Our little Trekkie actors have grown up so well. [/nerd]

I forgot to mention the Arcade Fire thing. That whole sequence of Sarah hanging out in Chuck's room for 42:15 so that Ellie and Awesome would think they were having sex just cracked me up.
lexualhealing
God, Heroes is boring.

That was the most Hoyaytastic thing I've seen on TV and I watched the first three seasons of Smallville. I love Chuck/Sarah but I'm so close to shipping Awesome/Chuck, it's not even funny.

Big Mike as a Pimp? Everyone thinking Morgan was wearing a costume? Casey being tortured to death by Chuck and Morgan's sandwich convo? All priceless. I love this show.
keeinabox
Loved Jeff's and Lester's costume and their tribute to Grant Wood's American Gothic and of course the sandworm. However, the highlight costume has to go to Captain Awesome's Adam costume. Also loved the sandwich discussion "What defines a sandwich, can I bring a Jessica Alba sandwich?"

However, how is it that this Lazlo character has designed everything across this planet.
mizenkay
Who does bring roast beef to a desert island? The look on Casey's face was pure gold. Loved the Team Chuck's fat kid bit over the credits. Oh, Adam.

Chuck and the smokin' Chuck Taylors at the end of the ejection seat ride (which yes, is always hilarious)

..."Ladies." So awesome.

And speaking of Awesome: "You ask yourself, am I a tucker?" That whole scene was hysterical. Morgan, who doesn't bug me, was bringin' it tonight.

This episode was the right mix of spy and Buy-More, best one so far, IMO. Loved the costumes. Lester and Jeff. Super.

Not an OC person, but the slo-mo bit had me rolling too.
Tanker
I missed the first half of the ep, but the second half was outstanding (heh. Sorry I missed that Awesome scene). I never watched the OC, but that slo-mo scene was a thing of beauty in its own right.

I loved all the little touches too, like the way the music went all spaghetti western whenever Harold Tiberius Tang was on screen in his cowboy getup.

Sarah as Slave Leia was, as said upthread, pretty much the Holy Grail for fanboys, but Anna as Catwoman was pretty smokin' too. I was just happy to see her again, after a couple of weeks without her.

As campy as this show can get at times, the emotional responses of the characters seem real.

That's what makes Chuck my new favorite show. It's my new Buffy.

Chucks first take, then double take, then triple take as well as taking a step backwards was great.

Loved it also. More and more each week I'm convinced that ZL was born to play Chuck.
tacker76
This episode rocked. Really helped get on board the Morgan-Chuck friendship chain more- a la the episode last week. The costumes and Halloween theme was perfect for this show, these characters- you really got a sense of who everyone is in this episode!
difry
The best line of the night...

Jayne/Casey says "what's he gonna do - hurt me with his mind?"

Yes, I love Firefly!
Lord Asriel
God do I love this show.

immaf, I saw the Ronald Reagan picture and immediately died of laughter. It's the little things in this show that make it amazing.

Did anyone notice the look on Sarah's face when she saw her and Chuck's picture in the garbage? She was hurt. She so wants him.
GandalftheFunky
Right on with the Sarah hurt look. Very nicely done.
lemondust
The villain was kinda lame, but I liked all the different Halloween costumes. Ellie looked good tonight, and Captain Awesome was... outstanding!
sissykay
This episode was just OK for me. Not enough Sarah and too much Morgan and those two catching each others eyes across a crowded room and then desperately running to get to each other, yuck. I never watched the OC so what ever the joke was lost on me.

I guess “Trust” is the theme for this year.

I will say this there were a lot of pretty half naked people in this episode. Captain Awesome if Chuck doesn’t want to see your snake I will sign up for a viewing. I loved Casey eating his oatmeal listening to the sandwich argument once again. You go Chuck. I also liked Awesome saving Ellie from Morgan’s, “am I immature?”

Maybe I'm easy, but up until the Bond movie I wasn't sure whether Lazlo or his handler was the bad guy. Good job, show.

I’m still not sure. Yeah, I know he was trying to blow people up but did he lose touch with reality because of the agency or was the agency using him because he was morally questionable?

As campy as this show can get at times, the emotional responses of the characters seem real.

Yes! The relationships are what keep me coming back. Some of the silliness bugs. Of course, ZL’s expressions are priceless but I could get a youtube vid of those and not waste a Monday night. I like all the relationships on the show and I agree there is a sensitive side to this show that revolves around its hero and his family and friends. There is so much to explore in each of them. I look forward to finding out more of Chuck’s childhood, Sarah’s past, Casey’s past. And the actors do a great job of juggling camp, action and drama.

Next week looks like a lot of questions I have about Bryce will be answered.
sarahvb
I realize I have not posted about this show yet, mostly because I don't analyze it or puzzle over it or rail against it when it's being dumb: I just purely ENJOY it. The only show I've been watching in recent years is LOST, and I am marveling at the fact that there is television that is smart, funny, well-made, and simply entertaining - what a revelation! Its lightness is really perfect for me on Mondays.

That said, would some kind soul please be generous enough to tell me what happened at the beginning of act 3? I had to go in to one of my kids, and I missed everything from when Chuck and Laszlo entered the Buy More until Chuck was running for his car. (At least I caught the seat ejector scene.)

Love this show!

Oh, also - is the CIA paying Chuck? If not, they should be, since he is routinely putting his life on the line for his country. Especially since he lost out on a promotion to do his duty, they should slip him some extra cash.

I cannot wait to find out the Bryce back story next week. Chuck is so lovable and sweet that it's hard to imagine why anyone would have wanted to do him wrong.
tacker76
Yeah its beautiful seeing that Sarah is starting to fall for Chuck and we know she cant go there or else she'll compromise all the good they're doing protecting him as a govt asset. not a fake "will they, wont they" but one you actually are rooting for but know will screw up their cover if they cross that line. And you figure that eventually Chuck will have to move on and can't wait for Sarah forever...or can he???
thethinman
The pacing of tonight's show just seemed out of sync. I also found Lazlo to be a more interesting character than Chuck tonight. And at this point in the show I find Chuck's panicked reaction everytime he gets a recognition flashback about someone to be redundant.
equinoxx
First thought: Thank you, show, for bringing Anna back. I was going through some serious Julia Ling withdrawal.

Second thought: Sarah and Chuck went to Comic-Con? Wha?! Oh. Right. Mad CIA Photoshop skillz.

Third thought: Man, Sarah Lancaster reminds me of a young Lynda Carter. And that should in no way be construed as a bad thing.

Fourth thought: Harold Tiberius Tang. Of course.

I've been on board with this show since I saw the pilot, and it just keeps getting better. Yvonne S. totally nailed that gut-punched expression when she saw the Comic-con "photo" in the wastebasket. And I'm telling you now, maintaining the cover story had maybe 2%, tops, to do with why Sarah showed up in costume to take a new, "real" photo. Remember when you said you wanted her to tell you one true thing, Chuck? Remember? Well, tonight, she did. And I quote: "We are a real couple." Girl wasn't foolin', brother.
Diddlee
Anyone know the actor playing Lazlo? I've tried looking all around the web, but no where has the guest cast listed yet.
mr thrack
Props to Chuck for standing up to Casey like he did. Did anyone catch Chuck's last line to him? I honestly thought Casey was gonna lay him out with a right cross to the jaw.

What makes Awesome awsome? He wants other people to be awesome too. Very big-brotherish, helping out clueless Morgan like he did. And being proud of Chuck "scoring" with Sara.
bumfuzzled
Did anyone else think Laslo looked a lot like Jude Law? The second I saw him, I immediately remembered "Music from Another Room," a movie with Jude Law, Jennifer Tilly and Gretchen Moll from the late 90s. I kept expecting an English accent to come out every time Laslo spoke.
PowerBum
LOVED the Awesome/Morgan bonding scene. Only wish it could have been longer.

Unfortunately, it seems that the increase in Captain Awesome left us with depressingly little Sarah or Casey. Which is a shame, but makes me cross my fingers in the hopes that somewhere down the line the good Captain might give Casey a makeover (it would be worth it for Adam Baldwin's scowl alone).

Didn't really care for the spy plot this ep. Whoever did the costuming (or whichever writer chose the Halloween costumes) rocked that side of things, though.

Also loved Big Mike's reaction to the "new" Morgan. Plus, the HR guy was totally Arthur from Fox's very short-lived live action The Tick series. Good to see him getting work.
MoreRidonkulous
immaf, I saw the Ronald Reagan picture and immediately died of laughter. It's the little things in this show that make it amazing.

It's also the sophisticated model of telling jokes, where they establish something and then follow up with the joke later in the episode. re: how Morgan and Chuck's lame convos drive Casey crazy.

Lesser shows don't DO humor like this.
goKev
I freakin' love this show - thank you Josh Schwartz !
I LOVED the O.C. call back - was well executed and funny as hell, and it brought back some of the plesant memories of the O.C. The moment "Dice" started to play i knew it that they were going to do what i though they were gonna do, i started jumping in my seat with laughter and nostaglia. It's only gonna get better once Rachel Bilson arrives, and hopefully Sandy, Seth, Taylor and Ryan.
Anyways, I thought that Sarah/Yvonne completely nailed the scene where she looks at her and chuck's fake comicon pic in the trash can.
well bryce is coming back next week (or we think so) and it seems like trouble/tension between chuck and sarah...
equinoxx
Anyone know the actor playing Lazlo?

Jonathan Sadowski played Lazslo.
surfsup79
When the Dice song came on, I swear I thought Morgan and Chuck were going to kiss. But damn that was a very funny OC callback Josh Schwartz. Just don't you dare have Mischa Barton guest star. I mean it.

The whole trust issue is starting to grate because it was yet again another episode of: New Mission, Chuck figures something out that makes him not trust Sarah, it fucks everyone up, Chuck miraciously saves the day and Sarah and Chuck have another angsty end scene. I just hope they break out of it.

I am however loving that this show doesn't take itself seriously and just has fun. The current trend on tv this year is fun. Or Awesome.
Thena
This is the funnest show. I didn't get the OC reference right away, but I knew I had seen it somewhere. Oh Josh Swartz, you've done good.

I heart like every character on the show. Morgan less than the others, but whatever! Sarah looked very hot as Leia. Mostly I was really envious of her abs. Yowza.

Captain Awesome teaching Morgan? Priceless. TUCK IT!
Buddhist Priest
I love this show and the characters (though Morgan is grating a little), but I do have a bone to pick. Now I know we're nowhere close to being grounded in reality here, but I'm finding it a little annoying that Chuck just happens to be in the right place at the right time to flash on a bad guy. This is the third or so week that it's happened. I'm all for Sarah or Casey asking Chuck for help with something, but this random-guy-turns-out-to-be-important-for-the-spydom-world? I hope the writers can come up with more interesting ways to get the plot rolling in the future.

Having said that, I loved most of tonight. The bomb counting down to 0:07 was fantastic. And the end - a sweet moment with Chuck and Sarah that becomes a funny moment with Chuck, Morgan, and Casey - is a perfect little example of why I watch this show.
GandalftheFunky
This show is so well written and executed through the actors. I love that the "we are a real couple" line and her coming back for the real picture happened the ep. before Bryce is coming back into the picture, still alive or not.

And I'm LOVING in the promo where Chuck flashes on himself. How friggin' weird would that be?
