Show info can be found here.

Dennis Miller seems to be one of those "love him or hate him" type of personalities, but I love him and am looking forward to seeing his show. Just the commercials are making me grin.

I can see this show lasting maybe 6 months, if that. Miller is just way, way, WAY too esoteric for the average sports fan, let alone the average VS channel viewer, who skews about 80 IQ points below Miller. He can be quite witty but you have to have a decent education to understand much of his tangential humor, which is why MNF viewers loathed him. They didn't want some asshole making obscure references to 13th century Scottish history, they wanted someone who could explain the Cover 2 in a way that made fucking sense and Miller wasn't that guy.

I didn't watch MNF very often, but I can hear him saying that and I can understand why the fans wouldn't take to that kind of commentary. I wondered, too, if he was going to fall into the same trap this time around. I'll definitely watch for as long as it's on, though (unless it truly sucks--I've never been a fan of anyone that much).

I wish I knew more about the format. Is it going to be a "This week in sports" kind of thing? Or is he going to highlight one sport per episode? We'll see.

My Tifaux's Red Sox theme channel caught this (Curt Schilling was his inaugural guest), otherwise this show never would have made my radar. The format is all Dennis, all the time, and talking nothing but sports; he opened the show with some pretty lame jokes about the past week's sports news (though got off a fabulous joke about the late female wrestler The Fabulous Moolah's will mandating that her ashes be thrown IN HER OPPONENT'S EYES!!!...maybe you had to be there).

He then launched into a nearly 10 minute monologue about why he/we are sports fans, in spite of all the indignities we endure from players, owners etc. His trademark conviction/smugness (YMMV) was there, but he did not come close to hitting his rant-stride...for every hit there were 3 or 4 misses, and the flop sweat was palpable at times.

The interviews were OK (the biggest laughs of the night came in trading quips with Schilling, who is a great interview whatever you think of his politics), and Dennis as fanboy was somewhat endearing. He the night closed with his snarky captions for photos, which was familiar territory and again was hit or miss.

For those who fondly remember classic Dennis Miller, as I do, there are glimpses of him here, and thank God the grating post 9/11 Cheney worshiper was nowhere to be seen. But he badly needs a sidekick, or something to vary the pace of the show. He is too out of practice to hit the rhythms needed to carry a 60 minute show on his own, and I will only watch if he brings on other guests that grab me, which seems unlikely.

Exactly. I watched it last night on my dvr (although, since I was exhausted, I skipped the actual interviews) and thought he almost seemed nervous. I hope he finds that rhythm soon because, imo, he can be really funny. I laughed a few times during the monologue, could've done without the question and answer segment and got most of my laughs at his pictures segment at the end.
