Season two! What's on your mind?

I feel like a call-in radio host now.
Gatepromise
I think that if the Petrelli brothers are not reunited pronto, and in a satisfying manner, my head just may explode. Or I'll stop watching. One or the other.

The season is just too slow and dragging thus far; there have been times when I've been looking at a magazine while the show was on, and I'm ususally someone who likes to crawl into the tv while watching. There are too many new characters, too many dangling threads, too little direction for the plots and motivations for the characters.

So far I'm underwhelmed. But I'm waiting for November sweeps for something to happen that reminds me why I love Heroes.

QFT.

Also word to the too many new characters. I just can't bring myself to care about them.

I'm enjoying it. I find it quite similar to the slow build of last season with each episode becoming more and more interesting then the one before. As the pace ramps up, the connections between the characters ramp up, and the larger scope begins to unfold. I'm really loving the story of the previous generation as well.

As for the new characters. I think Monica is a breath of fresh air. Love her and her power is probably my current favorite. Maya has been growing on me steadily. And Maury... Maury is just one creepy ass evil villain. Total chills when he walked out of that apartment with that evil glare on his face.
hypertwink
I think it started when Isaac got killed but I told myself to give season 2 a chance. I did and I still don't like it. Despite David Anders, I'm bored with the Japan storyline. Also, Hiro used to be cute and amusing; now, it's just old and irritating. I admit to salivating over Milo, but as much as I try, I feel removed from his amnesia gig. Another thing, Kristen Bell only serves to remind me how much I hated the 3rd season of Veronica Mars.

The twins are exhausting and overwrought. I can't really gauge my reaction to Alejandro because Maya ruins every scene he's in. About Sylar...last season, I felt he had a purpose and I thought he served it, so I don't like that he's back. I understand why though, since he's very popular...but I could care less.

Monica rocks, though.

Why, thank you for asking Dietrich.

I watched S1 on dvd, and in my opinion it started slowly and unevenly too, before gelling into the great show it became. (Minus some disappointment in the finale.) So while 2 is similarly bumpy, it may all come together. The goods, like the elder heroes, Matt, and Monica, hold a lot of promise.

Ireland: Continually ridiculous. Only moment of enjoyment I've had from that plotline yet was next week's Canadian promo: "Do the answers lie in CANADA???!!" But I doubt they do. And Elle seems very like Candace--powered but dumb. She's no HRG, and I really would enjoy her much more if she could use her brain; more Claude.

Matt, Mohinder, and Molly: Love. Especially as Matt and Mohinder, very talented, were stuck with the duller plotlines last year. A few quibbles here and there, but mostly excited, on board, and delighted at the end of the pretentious voiceovers.

Elder hero plotline: Best thing of the show. More.

Nathan: I would have been fine with he and Peter dying in the finale, and in Peter's case they sure don't seem to know how to keep the character. But damn, Pasdar is good. Great with his mom, and the kids. And I love him and Matt together.

Niki: I really need the reveal that she's a prong of Bennet's plan. S1 Niki was boring; doing her plot over again is boring. ikiN really is more fun.

New Orleans: Monica and Micah are great. They've got Hiro's sense of enjoying their power and exploring it. I really expected Nana to be in the elder hero plotline, though--she can't be there just to nap?

HRG's good plotline: I like to see him working on outwitting the company, finding the paintings, teaming up with the Haitian. But I'm disappointed at how fast he went to secrets--Sandra and Mr. Muggles can help! And, she deserves to know. You owe her.

That other plotline: I hate West, hate Claire repeating her Texas storyline without the benefits of Zach (not a huge Zach fan, but West is so awful). I summed it up thusly after their last ep:
W: Claire, jump.
C: No, I don't want to.
W: Claire, jump.
C: No. I really don't want to jump.
W: Claire, you have to trust me. And I'm telling you to jump.
C: Okay!
Their whole relationship has been like this, and yet I can't shake the feeling I'm meant to be charmed, rather than plotting for Mr. Muggles to eliminate West. Can't Claire find herself without a boy, say by helping her badminton partner?

The plotlines I almost forgot:

Hiro in Japan. Started okay, now stalling and telling rather than showing. If these 3 are experiencing epic battles through which they all bond, let's see some of it.

Maya crying some more, again. Another one who needs to hook up with Ma Petrelli and learn some toughness. I may cry easily, but if people died whenever I did I think I'd get it under control. The plot did perk up (after looping on endless repeats and the world's dumbest attempted car robbery) when they found Sylar, and he and Maya bonded over how, sometimes, you just kill a lot of people! But it doesn't make you a bad person! But I fear Maya's whole reason for existence will be to poison the devil around the last act of this chapter, and there seems little point in the rest of the story.

I think this season is fine so far. I think some of the writing isn't on par with last season (especially in the Claire/West scenes); but I don't think it's moving slowly at all, and I think the new character additions are welcome (considering Kring and Co. originally wanted a completely new cast). Season One started with a lot of separate plot-development as well, and if people remember it didn't really start cooking until the "Homecoming" (ep. 9). Season Two is only up to episode 5, so, I think there's still plenty of time for some movement.

I will reserve my judgment until the end of this season-arc.
Illuminattile
I'm enjoying it. People seem to act as if the first season was flawless from the beginning. This time next year I'm sure people will have forgotten how much they disliked early episodes, just like people have forgotten how dull the Niki/DL/Micah storyline in season 1 was, and how slowly that moved at times.

I also doubt that half the people on these forums who say they're going to stop watching actually will.
SugarcultAddict
Overall I am enjoying it, just a few nit picky things that are bugging me.
DizzyMissLiz
I'm really enjoying this season so far. The Matt/Mohinder/Molly storyline is my favorite [and the potential for Nathan getting entangled in that particular plot thread is delightful], followed very closely by the New Orleans one because Monica is made of sixty different kinds of awesome and I can't wait to see what she and Micah get up to together. And the HRG painting of dooooom is making me very nervous.

Peter's Irish adventures aren't doing anything for me, nor are Hiro's adventures with Kensei, but I have faith that those storylines are going to get more interesting soon. The only thing I could really do without is the Clest. Claire was one of my favorites last year but now I just want to smack her upside the head with a clue.

Since I started watching Heroes not long ago (which made me watch about 13 episodes of S1 in a row before I could start watching S2) it's all pretty much one big "hey, this show is good, good, good" feeling.

However, I feel that there are too many new characters now in S2. Many characters therefore seem (to me) as if they are stuck doing nothing, because in the time they are given nothing has time to happen. I would for example like to get some sense of what the twins will add to the overall story, right now they are just running around.

The first episode of S2, I really enjoyed Hiro's storyline, but right now it's just plain boring. I'm also not caring much for the Ireland story, since I can't really recognize much of S1 Peter in it, and well, since it's also pretty dull. Since Hiro and Peter were two of my favourite characters of S1 I of course am not happy with the fact that I don't like their storylines now.

I would also like to see the Petrelli brothers reunite now. Some characters really benefit from NOT being separated. (Which probably is why I'm having some problems with the Hiro and Peter stories, I liked the Hiro-Ando and Peter-Nathan scenes in S1).

I really like the Nathan-Matt storyline, and the villain that is Matt's dad.

I do believe that the show is about to pick up a lot of speed, judging from trailers and what I think might happen. There are plenty of blanks to be filled at the moment, but I think they will start filling up and connecting very soon. I'm therefore looking forward to the rest of the season a lot.

Heh. The Petrelli brothers are actually my two least favorite characters, but if I loved them and their relationship, I could totally see why this season could lead to some head exploding ;)

I was a relative non-fan of this show last season, watching a handful of episodes but just never feeling especially invested in the characters or storylines. This season, though, the show has shot to the top of my TiFaux priority list.

It's hard for me to pinpoint exactly what feels different, but the pacing and overall tone just feel smoother to me. I felt like last season progressed in uneven spurts, sometimes very fast but other times moving nowhere IMO, while this season seems to be steadily unfolding into what I now have faith is a pre-planned story (last year, I sometimes had the uneasy sense they were making things up as they went along). I'm also liking most of the former characters more then I did last season, particularly Matt (who I always liked but now love) and Mohinder. I'm also surprisingly fond of all the new characters not played by Kristen Bell. I actually like that there are so many characters and storylines, as it keeps things varied and interesting to me. Even the dialogue, which sometimes made me cringe last season, seems a lot less clunky to me in S2.

I don't know, maybe it's more about my expectations changing than the show itself. I don't expect quite as much from this show in terms of dialogue and characterizations, so with that in mind I can just enjoy the actual storylines and the 'cool, super powers!' wonder of it all. I just know that while Heroes isn't a show I think about all week or feel compelled to rewatch multiple times, it's probably the show that I enjoy most while I'm actually watching it.

To me, the one thing this season is lacking that the early part of S1 had was the shock endings: HRG is Claire's father, Hiro sees the explosion, Claire on the autopsy table, Claire crashing the car, "STC, STW." Those lent a big "I can't miss what happens next" feeling to the show and carried us through the "Meet the Characters" phase into the first main story arc. By doing away with both those and the location-sensitive color palettes, we are less distracted from any creeping plotlines and the show feels more ordinary.

On Hiro and Parkman, I think I tend to identify more with the guys who wish they were strong but aren't, rather than those who are, so I've never understood the periodic dislike of the two of them (although Janice pointedly didn't deserve Matt). Hiro in Japan, falling for a girl who will probably never think to look twice at him... completely believable.

Nathan and especially Peter were the heart of the S1 storyline, so I can understand them getting more screentime, but I don't particularly care one way or the other that they haven't been together yet; I'm more interested in seeing him connect with Caitlin and in finding out what happened with Nathan and Heidi. Of course, Nathan is now more front-and-center than Peter in the Generations story, so maybe it's his turn to be the hero.

Elle: it seemed obvious that KB was still finding her character in those scenes. I have no preconceptions about her as I never saw VM at all, and the character as I have seen her described in TV Guide, etc. sounds interesting enough that I am willing to give her a chance. Would've liked to have seen her when she fried the guy, though... I bet Elle enjoyed that.

Claire:
Their whole relationship has been like this, and yet I can't shake the feeling I'm meant to be charmed, rather than plotting for Mr. Muggles to eliminate West. Can't Claire find herself without a boy, say by helping her badminton partner?
Wouldn't most mid-teen girls prefer having a boyfriend to not having a boyfriend? Hey, her father wanted her to date nerds, remember?

MohMaMol storyline has been terrific so far.

Overall I'm liking it, even if there are somethings I don't like. I'm loving everything about Nathan, Matt, Molly, Mohinder and HRG, and I really like the elder's plot, and Monica and Micah.

On the other hand, I totally hate Claire and West, and, at some points, I think that plot is dragging the rest of the show, and makes it look worse than it really is. I don't like the Twins either.

At first I liked Hiro in Japan but now it's just boring and repetitive. The same happens with Peter, it's taking it too long to take off.
Big Lob
It lacks focus.

The dialogue is chucky. The acting hasn't been great. The pace is mind-numbingly slow.

The new characters introduced have ranged from tolerable to unwatchable.

Artificial constraints have been placed on the characters we're invested in. I call bullshit on that. We want these people to become the heroes they are supposed to be. Get on with it.

The set design has taken a huge step backwards.

I miss the feel of danger season 1 had. Losing Isaac and his paintings was a large part of that.

It doesn't even feel like the season has started. Everything is in a holding pattern.

I think whoever mapped out season 2 has done a huge disservice to the fan base because thus far, nothing has happened at all.

Filler has to be expected an episode or two, but this has been trully pathetic.

This, I agree with!
I think this might have something to do with what I'm lacking so far. The last season was a lot about "if we don't stop this, LOTS of people will die". This season doesn't have that feeling to me. Sure, someone/s is/are killing off the original 12, but that's more like solving the average crime mystery.

I hadn't thought of that difference until reading this already awesome thread but, oddly enough, I actually think that's a reason I'm preferring S2. For me, TV's more personal, smaller-scale mysteries are always more intruiging and compelling than the broader 'save the cheerleader, save the world' stuff.

Heh, I'm the other way around I think. I mean, sure, I can enjoy an episode of Midsomer Murders or Crossing Jordan every once in a while, but I do much prefer the "we need to do this, or the world/the city is doomed" comic book dangers. Less realistic, I suppose, so not as creepy.
Regularguy
The Elder Murders is compelling to me. I care about Angela, Bob is a good Company-style villain without being creepy, and I want to know what's up with Maury, and I want to know who killed Kaito (and what his damn power was!)

This has been bugging me about S2 as well. How can you do a story about superpowered folks being hunted down without telling us what their powers are? I can't get especially invested in someone's plight if I know they have some kind of power up their sleeve and watch them pointedly not even refer to it when expecting an attack, and then getting attacked, and possibly even while recuperating from said attack.

Just tell us that Angela has x-ray vision, or whatever; it takes five seconds! Tell us Kaito had Monica's power first. Or whatever. Just give me something to work with, here; the whole point of these supers being in danger is that it's supers in danger. Remember how Sylar had to levitate himself over for the sneak attack on the mechanic with superhearing? Remember DL using his phasing powers to knock superstrong Jessica out during a fistfight? Compare that stuff to Angela getting assaulted in her cell: it's not a superhuman under attack despite her powers, it's a petite grandmother under attack as if she were a petite grandmother. How is that epic?
Cloud99
For me, it's a mixed bag, but it's getting better. The problem with the writing on Heroes is that it's tight in some places and meandering in others. That was true at the beginning of Season 1, too, but they tightened up towards the end. I'm hoping that happens this time as well, but I wish they'd started more effectively.

It's a mixed bag for me as well. Really the only thing that has annoyed is Hiro in feudal Japan. It's like the Sword Quest all over again with him bumbling about for no really good reason. Though the fact that they may not feature it in every episode make it more tolorable than the sword quest, because they dragged that out to no end.

Niki has MPD after all? Well, that's kind of lame. I hope they give me more with DL's death. The introduction of Niki was short and choppy. Again, the handling of this character is less-than-stellar.

I'm still not sold on that being what she has. The company can keep her there under the guise of helping her with MPD, but I don't think that is what she has. Niki is not one of my favorite characters but I do hope they can do better than that for her.

I like to whine about the things I don't particularly enjoy, a lot ;)
So far I'm liking:
  • anything concerning HRG, because he's amazing like that. And as long as there's the Haitian on his side I feel that all is still right on the show.
  • Sylar, because he is just all sorts of awesome to me. And I love that he is alive, hot as hell, temporarily powerless, calling himself Gabriel Grey, and, due to the coincidence of meeting the twins, hopefully about to reunite with Mohinder in order to join the main plot very soon - hopefully twins-less ;)
  • Nathan, because he's been my favorite character since the start back in S1 and has never, ever let me down.
  • Mohinder and the 3M plot: it's creepy and dark and it is what's giving me the biggest thrills at the moment. It connects to the Elders and the Nightmare man, it's got Matt teaming up with Nathan, it's got many intriguing aspects.
  • Mohinder and the virus thread: whatever it's all about, it is already VERY interesting and it's got a lot of potential story-wise, plus it gives me the chills.
  • Unlike last season, Matt deserves a spot of his own on my yes list this year. Not because I agree with his decisions, of course, I sure see how dumb or annoying he can be - it's just that for some reasons I enjoy his character, he's fun to watch, while last year I hated him.
  • Monica is adorable and looks like someone whose story I could become invested in.
And the things I DON'T like:
  • The Peter I've seen so far. I'm realizing I was interested in Peter in S1 because of his role in the Petrelli family, the dysfunctional dynamics with his brother, his connections to Hiro and the whole STC, STW mantra. A Peter deprived of all those things makes for a highly uninteresting Peter to me - just the opposite of Nathan. Nathan with no Peter may suffer terribly as a man, but character -wise the loss makes for a great Nathan. Besides, a fully clothed, single-powered Nathan still works wonders for me SO much more than a multi-powered, half-naked Peter ever will ;)
  • The Claire I've seen so far. Again, she's too different form S1, more immature, plus she lacks the appeal of having a friend like Zach on her side. He was a precious lovely character back then, and I miss him dearly. Instead, I get to see West - yuk.
  • Don't even get me started on how much I miss Isaac Mendez. He was different from all the others, he was so flawed, so romantic, so special, so irreplaceble.
  • For instance, I just feel that despite the hype, Elle will never, ever, ever replace Isaac's awesomeness or role on the show. I know she's not meant to, but my point is if they take away one great character, either they feed me with a new great character or make one of my already favorite become even greater, you see? Otherwise I'll be disappointed.
  • Hiro. But see, I love Hiro. It's not like with Peter or Claire, where I'm really kind of annoyed at the characters. I still adore Hiro, I just want him back and out of a story that has no appearent connection to anything going on in the present!show.
  • The Twins - I only tolerate them now because Sylar's presence is (awesomely) rescuing their storyline from being the most boring thing in tv history.
  • Oh, wait- there's Niki SandzzzZzzzzzZZzzZzzzzzzZzzzzzzz....

OMG sorry this is so long O_O
KevinDaniel
I enjoyed pretty much everything about season 1 but, unfortunately, very little about season 2.

First, I do not care for any of the new characters. Maya and Alejandro bore me. And I still don't understand their powers. I think their storyline would be more appropriate on a show like Supernatural where they deal urban myths, legends and folklore.

Secondly, I really don't like Monica. Honestly, she annoys me. There's something very "Mary Sue" about her and I don't like it. I'm probably the only one who feels this way but I want her gone already. Plus her scenes with Micah are way too sweet, they make my teeth hurt. Please bring back D.L. and Nikki!

As for Elle, I loath her. Yes that's right I loath her. Her acting was horrible and her voice was grating on my nerves. Also, will somebody please get some scissors and cut her hair. Long hair doesn't suit her (though I've never seen her with short hair). And after reading some spoilers concerning her character, I despise her even more. She could singlehandedly make me stop watching the show.

Also,

I have this love and hate relationship with Claire. I love her in her scenes with Mr & Mrs Bennett but hate her in scenes with any of the Petrellis (by the way I can't stand it when people refer to her as a Petrelli, she's a Bennett dammit. Sorry i digress).

Hiro, boring.

Peter. I wanted a stronger and tougher Peter. I got instead a sluttier Peter. I'm not liking him right. I'm hoping that'll change once he's reunited with Nathan.

The only thing I'm loving right now is Nathan, Nathan, Nathan and oh yeah Nathan. All his scenes have rocked so far. I'm also enjoying the Parkman storyline. I never thought I would say this but right now I care more about Matt and his storyline than I do Peter and Peter was my favorite character last season.
Freckles101
The Claire I've seen so far. Again, she's too different form S1, more immature, plus she lacks the appeal of having a friend like Zach on her side. He was a precious lovely character back then, and I miss him dearly. Instead, I get to see West - yuk.

Oh, I agree. Claire was a really awesome character in S1, and she was one of my favorites. However, this season I hate West and I don't know why Claire would even like him. I hate that Claire is lying to HRG, because their relationship is one of my favorites, and I hope that West will be gone soon (even though I don't think it will happen).

I'm really liking what we have gotten so far with badass Mohinder, and I'm going to have hope that Mo has a plan with the Company and didn't go back to being dumb. His relationship with Molly is so cute and the fact that he and Matt are raising Molly just cracks me up so much.

Sylar's storyline is pretty good so far. I'm slightly worried that they are going to have Maylar (although I could be okay with it, they would have to go about it very, very carefully). but I am so glad that they didn't make Sylar the one with amnesia. He definitely has made Maya y Alejandro's storyline better, and I can't wait for them to get to NY and find Mohinder (especially Sylar ;)).

The New Orleans storyline is one that I'm surprised I like. Monica is my second favorite new character (after Kensei) and I love how she is just embracing her power and rocking it. I also think Micah is so cute, and I love how with him and Molly Heroes actually has kids on the show that aren't annoying.

Ugh, I'm really bored with the Peter in Ireland story (although I do like Caitlin), and Kristen Bell's character has not changed that at all. Without getting into all my annoyance (not yet hatred, but may get there) for Elle, I'm just gonna say that I want Peter to get back to NY and regain his memory. If his amnesia is permanent, that will be one of the most tragic things ever.

I actually am liking the Hiro in Japan storyline, because I absolutely adore Kensei. I haven't seen David Anders in anything else, but he is doing a great job. The story has been dragging (probably because we've only been a short amount of it) but I am still interested in it (much more than the Peter in Ireland story). I'm also glad that they didn't have Hiro actually be Kensei. I hope this plot wraps up soon though and Hiro returns to the present.

As a whole, I guess S2 isn't as good as S1 so far (although for me it is sort of hard to tell, since I watched S1 for the first time on DVD all in a row). I do miss the ultra-shocking and cliffhangery cliffhangers and I hope those come back. I also miss Isaac, since his portraits were basically the backbone of last season, but I am consoled by the fact that HRG, the Haitian, and Mo are looking for some of his missing paintings and the fact that Peter absorbed Isaac's ability, so he can paint the future as well.
Guy
I'm loving season two so far. I'm not really the type of person who will over-analyze a T.V. show, and start talking negatively about how "so-and-so's character isn't tied in with the main plot" and such. To me, that's just silly. What kind of show would Heroes be if everyone was instantly involved with the main action? I just enjoy the ride, and know that they will be tied in at one point. The interactions and characters meeting is my favorite part of this show. Hence, I'm loving the fact Matt and Nathan teamed up, and that Mohinder just showed up at Monica's door. It's gold. I watch shows to be entertained, and Heroes is extremely entertaining. I really like the fact there's a huge cast, and several different storylines. It holds my interest. While I may become bored or frustrated with a particular plot, there's plently else going on so that it doesn't even really matter. I think they're doing a great job with the second season thus far.
GhaimehBadenjun
I like Season 2 so far! Overall there haven't been as many "wow" moments as there were in the first five episodes of season one... but there have been enough to keep me satisfied, and they've set up some promising stories so far.

I also like some of the new cast additions. Dana Davis and the whole Monica storyline ROCKS so far. I also really like Maya, I think Dania Ramirez plays both the tough and the girly aspects of her character really well. I think Team Oireland generally kind of sucks, but I like Caitlin/Peter almost in spite of myself. I don't actively ship them, and I don't find them panty-rippingly passionate or anything, but I find their interactions warm and believable.

I'm also really buzzed that they've taken one of the details that seemed like a throwaway when it was first introduced last season - Shanti's virus - and re-introduced it in a big way. Pandemic/bioweapon storylines nearly always freak me the hell OUT, so I'm hoping they can milk some great drama out of this.

My least favorite aspect of Season 2 is watching Hiro be subservient to some white guy (even if the white guy in question is played by a fairly likable actor). Hiro was already pushing "Asian stereotype" limits last season and this really isn't helping. But even with this storyline, I'm hoping we're in for a twist of some kind. Like Hiro and Yaeko just give into their uncontrollable passion for each other, and Kensei flips out accordingly.
Aunty Mib
I'm not really the type of person who will over-analyze a T.V. show

But I am ;-)

The big difference I notice between Season 1 and Season 2 is the basic underlying structures of the storytelling.

The first season was told in the style of comic books: Big bright slogans, cliffhanger endings for each issue, supervillians and superheroes, doomed romance, good guys are rewarded and bad guys suffer. Quick! Let Us Save Truth Democracy and the American Way!!!!

The second season is using the rhythms and structures of fairy tales. People wake up in strange places and don't remember who they are or how they got there. Helpers and guides appear and disappear. One prince is a monster in disguise and another prince sees himself as a monster everytime he looks in a mirror. Information is given in the forms of riddle games and stories. Many important plot developments and insights come through dreams. (Last year only Peter had the significant dreams.)

The fairy tale is explicit in some of the stories. Hiro has gone back in time to meet Japan's version of Robin Hood. Caitlynn tells Peter the story of Chucalain and the Mermaid. Niki has an evil twin who lives in the mirror. (BY ME, Jessica has a boring twin who has trapped her in the mirror.) Nathan is the Wounded King. The twins are orphans on a quest to save the sister from her curse, and they've picked up an ogre in disguise.

The most troubling fairy tale plot is the romance between Claire and West. This is a version of Rapunzel: Claire is locked away in a child's domestic role and is required to let her hair down to let a Prince rescue her. It has touches of Beauty and the Beast or Snow White and Rose Red; in return for leaving the childhood home the woman must civilize the man. I recognize the power of these old stories setting up female and male roles in pre-Modern France but they make my post-Modern queer theorist hackles rise.

I hope for Claire's sake that this story doesn't turn into Bluebeard. I hope for the sake of my tv screen which would be damaged by having a heavy object thrown at it that it doesn't turn into the Walt Disney Little Red-Riding Hood by having Claire rescued by an older male relative since 'girls can't protect themselves'.
Menouthis
To be honest, I don't think S1 was all of that. It had some great moments but there were also some dead space and the feeling that the writers don't know where they are going.

This season is actually better in terms of planning. Right from the start, I can guesstimate where the writers want to go with each subplots. The problem is that they still haven't learned their lesson about the dead space. Things still take too long or repeated too much. For example, Maya and Alejandro's power could be shown effectively in one scene instead of repeating it over and over again.

I also don't care much for most of the new characters. And here is also my other problem, the writers keep adding characters instead of building the old ones. Of course new characters are important but I don't want them to be regulars and take over the screentime and character development that the original characters need.

As for the breakdown of storylines that work or does not work:

1. Nathan: he's always been a favorite of mine and I've been enjoying the change in his plot. He's a lot more heroic now and gets to do more. I like him having a remorse and conscience and have been enjoying his redemption arc. Pasdar also tends to elevate the acting game of his fellow actors so that's a plus. I'm surprised at how well Nathan and Parkman pairing works. I think he did the same thing with Niki and Hiro. Of all the interactions that Nathan had, however, I love his interaction with Peter the most.

Having said that, lately I'm becoming anxious about him being reunited with Peter. I really don't want the writers to regress his character back to the way he was and I'm afraid that this is what they'll do to him once he goes back with Peter. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see them reunited but the jerk/good dynamic that they used to have have to change. I don't want Nathan to return to become the defacto jerk in the relationship.

2. Peter: I don't actually have much problem with the Irish storyline apart from the fact that it takes forever to lift off. I even like Caitlin and I think it's natural that Peter's behavior is slightly altered due to the event that happened 4 months ago. I do think that Milo is in disadvantage position in S2 since he can no longer interact with the talented actors he used to interact with. In the first season he interacts with Adrian Pasdar, Christopher Eccleston, Christine Rose, Richard Roundtree. All of these people elevate his acting game to the max. He no longer has access to these actors in the 2nd season and it shows.

3. Hiro: To be honest I have no idea about the kind of Hiro that I'd like to see. I like his naive personality and eagerness but at the same time, I think he needs to tone it down a little bit. His Japan adventure has been entertaining at first but quickly spirals down to some kind of rivalry for the affection of the Princess, whom I don't feel have that much chemistry with Hiro anyway (she has more chemistry with Kensei). I fully understand where the writers are going with this and we'll see the repercussion of this very soon. But again, they should have cut down some of the unnecessary scenes and make the existing ones more to-the-point and less meandering.

4. Sylar: Sylar's storyline has been interesting so far. It also helps that like Pasdar, Quinto elevates the acting and perfomance of his fellow co-stars. His addition to Maya/Alejandro plot really lift up the story and make it more interesting somehow. I'm glad that he's been depowered because he's too much of a threat when he had so much power. I think it'll be interesting to see how Sylar will develop without his power. Will he continue on his Sylar way or will Gabriel Grey emerge somehow and make him a better man?

5. Matt/Mohinder/Molly: I never thought that I'd like Matt's storyline but his plot with his father has been enjoyable. I also like his interaction with Nathan, Mohinder, and Molly. It's so much better than the storyline he got back in S1 with his wife. I'm looking forward to see him interacting with his father again (who turns out to be such a creep).

Mohinder is also growing as a person although I still have problem with the way he trust the company so easily. I don't think this is character problem but more the writers' problem. They seem to put the character on a step forward only to have the characters taking 2 step back. I don't like that. Characters must evolve to become better person due to their experience. They can make mistake but they should not repeat mistakes that they made in the past.

Molly has been a positive influence on both Matt and Mohinder. I don't know how people could hate her character. I think she behaves quite well for a kid who has to live with that kind of pressure. Just don't overdo her and we should be okay.

6. Claire/HRG: I've never been impressed by Claire even back in S1 and still not impressed now. Her character just doesn't work for me except in her scenes with Bennets. I don't think she works well with other characters . I had hopes that her storyline would be more interesting with the addition of the lesbian cheerleader but that got nixed due to the actress being hired on DH. West actually has pretty nice chemistry with her but the writers for some reason decide to make him look like an ass.

HRG is still interesting and I'm glad that he's been incorporating his wife into his plan instead of hiding it from her and wiping her mind later on. I do wonder if he told her about that last painting though. I get his hesitation with telling his family about his work. How can, he, for example, tell them about that last painting? They'll just worry unnecessarily. At the same time, I think many things would be less of complications if the characters share their experience with one another instead of keeping it secret.

7. Niki: I'm not happy with how her character is not progressing or given any storyline. I'm probably one of the few who actually like her last season and see so much potential. She has awesome chemistry with Nathan and I'm looking forward to their interaction in the upcoming episode.

8. Monica/Maya/Elle/Kensei: I love Monica. I actually never expected to like her better than Maya since I love Dania Ramirez. I'm slight disappointed with Maya. I had a rather high expectation of her, which I had to tone down when I saw her characterization. Not fond of Elle and Kensei so far.

I like S1 better still, because I've seen it in its entirety, but if I compare them episode to episode, I like S2 more---and I expect it'll get better and better.

I completely agree with that assessment, berrieh. S1 had its fair share of clunker plots--Hiro and Ando in Vegas, Niki hunting down DL, Matt moping around with his wife--but everything was so new and fresh that I was willing to forgive the missteps. This season, the newness has worn off, so I find myself less forgiving of stagnant storylines, even though for my money Hiro in Japan far trumps Hiro chasing swords and Missi Pyle.
Meki
I'm not really liking it as much as last season. I don't know what I expected but it certainly wan't this. Too many characters, too many stories and too little time. Try as I might I just can't invest in any of the new characters and I have trouble identifying with the old ones. I don't resent change but I think the new hero influx has just been too much too fast. Just to make a list of what's not really working for me:

Unlike most, I don't really enjoy Hiro and despite loving DA as Kensei the feudal Japan storyline is so boring I find myself channel surfing whenever it's on. I have no idea what they are doing with Ando, he seems lost this season, much like every other character.

I really enjoyed Peter for the most part last season, this season the Ireland storyline that he is stuck in, is just as bland as feudal Japan. And no, Kristen Bell's presence did not make it better, it is still horrible.

I hate Elle and Maya and Alejandro.

Another unpopular opinion: I love Niki and the fact that she has had like 3 minutes of airtime in 5 episodes is frustating. I think the character has a ton of potential and I was waiting so patiently to see how they would turn her storyline around this season.

Claire: Oh Claire. I love Hayden Panettiere as an actress, I've watched her since her soap days and have always been amazed at just how talented she is. She is the reason I started watching Heroes but I'm really not liking Claire this season. Claire on her own and with HRG I still adore. Claire with West makes me want to throw things at the television, they are annoying, corny and boring and their dialogue is just horrible.

The fact that the most time and attention are given to the storylines and people I don't like this season is the reason I'm not enjoying it as much.

There are still some aspects of the show I like, as few as they are. I love the teaming up of Nathan and Parkman, they make for an intriguing partnership. I look forward to seeing their relationship develop. Nathan is turning out to be the character I'm most invested in so far this season.

I love the original 12 plotline.

Of all the new heroes the only one I really like is Monica. Monica and Micah are a breath of fresh air, it's nice to see Micah happy and enjoying his power.

I love HRG always have, always will.

It's not that I think season 1 was flawless, far from it but it was much more interesting and had more of a sense of urgency, adventure and danger than this season. Last season I counted the days until Monday and rewatched each episode. This season I DVR every episode and delete after skipping through a whole lot of boring crap.
HoneyBee
I'm not sure about the second season so far. Last year I caught up with Heroes and started to watch from the middle of the season, right when everything seemed to be exciting. So I guess, they're are using the same formula again by slowly developing the storyline and cast, and maybe we will get the more exciting story in the middle of the season.
BillyBatson4360
Ironically, even before the addition of Kristen Bell, this series reminded me of "Veronica Mars" in one sense.

The characters were really created for the central mystery of Season 1 - just as the inhabitants of Neptune were there specifically for what they added to the "Who Killed Lilly Kane?" plot that drove seaon 1 of VM.

Now, in the second season, the producers/writers need to find some way of giving these characters another reason to band together.

Eventually, I liked where they took VM in Season 2 - it just took awhile to get there. I am hoping that "Heroes" is following the same trajectory and by the end of this arc, they have pulled all their various far-flung plot elements together.

I'm am hoping that Hiro's journey to the past and Peter's Oirish Adventure somehow begin to relate to the murder of Hiro's father.

I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now - especially as the storyline has picked up the past few weeks.
Mpol
Season two's flaws have been...

1. Introducing too many Heroes. Focus on the ones we loved.

2. Not too many 'WOW THAT WAS AWESOME' moments. These moments really helped to make early Season one exciting. Without them we'd have... Season 2.

3. Plots are a bit obscure. Again early Season one had some random plots but they all linked together. There was none of this Past Japan/Oirish plot. They are too obscure.

I however have enjoyed this season so far. The last two episodes have been very promising. Very cool. The cutting out of various plots in each episode is helping. But give the season some drive (I believe the virus/company plot will do this soon!) Whilst Hiro and Peter's plot may be in hindsight, a means to set up the rest of their season, right now both are dragging. Make them DO SOMETHING! And reunite our main characters. We want to see them. Unless the newbies have a relevance, CHOP 'EM!
Richie
I do think that Milo is in disadvantage position in S2 since he can no longer interact with the talented actors he used to interact with. In the first season he interacts with Adrian Pasdar, Christopher Eccleston, Christine Rose, Richard Roundtree. All of these people elevate his acting game to the max. He no longer has access to these actors in the 2nd season and it shows.

I have to agree with this. As much as I love Milo, Adrian and the other great actors bring out the best in him. Right now his storyline is making him look very boring and uninteresting. I hope they put him and Adrian back together soon, although it seems like it might be a long time. Big mistake!!!

As for how season 2 is going, it's not as good as season 1 for so many reasons:

1. Too many new characters
2. Not enough time spent with the original characters
3. Too much jumping around from scene to scene
4. Hiro, Peter, and Claire's adventures are boring
5. Do not like West
6. Do not like the Katrina storyline. I went through it and find it corny to be used this way.
7. Moving too slowly
8. Separating Nathan and Peter, Claire from everyone, and Hiro/Ando is ruining this show.
Gatepromise
Almost everyone agrees on a couple of points: too many new characters, the stories are moving too slowly, the Japan story is boring, and Peter and Nathan really, really need each other to be at their best. Are you listening, Tim Kring?
croakvegas
I have to say that I'm really enjoying what most of the new characters have brought to the show:

- LOVE Kensei, fantastic character and you just know that he's going to have a lot to do with the present-day Heroes as well so can't wait to see how that pans out.

- Also really love Monica, although I think that's almost universal. Her power rocks and I particularly like her interactions with Micah - no offense to Niki/Jessica, but I haven't even noticed she's been mostly MIA. Micah really needs to stick with this branch of the family.

- I like the twins - there's still an element of mystery about their powers and their past, and I'm engaged by them, particularly since they've teamed up with Sylar. Prefer Alejandro, but I think that's probably because he's so pretty.

- I even like West... I think there's a lot more to him than meets the eye, and I find there to be an element of menace about him. Although some of the scenes with Claire have been a bit cheesy, and I hope there isn't a major focus on that 'teen romance' storyline.

- I don't mind the Oirish conection, either. Once you got past Ricky's accent he was fine, and I like Caitlin, I think she actually suits Peter to a T. I realise it's a bit sucky to have Peter completely alienated from all the S1 actors, as he does play so well off them, but the reunions are inevitable.

- Loving all the new creepies this season - Bob, and particularly Maury have intriguing powers and provide a different sort of villainry to S1 Sylar.

- Not fussed on Elle, but I think that's because her first episode wasn't particularly well-written for her character. More than willing to give her a shot.

So I like all the newbies, and I think that for the most part the writers have trimmed the S1 fat well. As I've said, they've really limited the involvement of the more boring extraneous characters (Niki, Janice) and I don't miss them at all. There could be a little less focus on some storylines at the moment (eg. Claire/Bennets, feudal Japan) but it's not as though they're mindnumbingly boring to watch. I'm excited by the prospect of all the characters coming together again, and am particularly excited to see how the new characters will interact with the established characters. Especially when it comes to Kensei. Although that may be for more aesthetic reasons, heh. And I also feel as though the show is building well towards some big events and confrontations, so I'm psyched to keep watching.
CTrent49
I really don't know what is going on. I haven't been keeping up that much with the show.
The Plot Device
I might be mimicking some of the thoughts already expressed, but since you asked:

I feel like we're reading a comic book. There's an arc, it builds to a big fight scene, then we have an issue or two of things being calmer while new characters are introduced/new threats are exposed. Some people used to love the issues of X-Men where all they did was play a friendly game of baseball after saving the world. My favorite moments were always just the X-Men being around, my favorite issue being one where they were just trying to have breakfast.

The twins, at first, were getting a little unyielding. But now that Gabriel Grey is with them, I'm instantly interesting.

All season long I've been captivated with the original 12 and their powers. As a player of City of Heroes, I like to label people by the kind of powerset they'd have in that game. Knowing that Papa Parkman is a Mind Dominator to Matt's Mind Controller (using powers for evil, not good) means a lot more to me. I'm still waiting to hear what Kaito and Angela's powers are, and I'm loving the introduction of an alchemist to the elders.

Yes, Nikki has become pointless now, especially since Peter has her super strength. Micah's storyline has become 100 times more interesting now that he's having fun with being a super with his cousin. And the fact that his cousin has a new and interesting power that's straight out of my favorite comics (the photographic reflexes of Taskmaster from Agent X/Avengers) makes me like her more.

We're building to something much faster than we were last year. Nathan and Matt's tag team has been endlessly entertaining. Mohinder being the new HRG stalking heroes for the company to save Molly is a good twist. The key to this show now is the heroes interacting with each other.

I'm enjoying the season so far. I look forward to what it's building to and can't wait to see how it ends.
Cloud99
This season is actually better in terms of planning. Right from the start, I can guesstimate where the writers want to go with each subplots. The problem is that they still haven't learned their lesson about the dead space. Things still take too long or repeated too much. For example, Maya and Alejandro's power could be shown effectively in one scene instead of repeating it over and over again.

I do agree that this season seems more thought out than S1 did. Aside from a couple of little things I am really enjoying Season 2. I dont have any real major nitpicks about it. I don't think there are too many new characters and honestly nobody from S1 seems to be getting the shaft IMHO because of them, well except Niki and it was like that with her in S1.

I still dont know what to say about Niki because her storyline was one that really didn't take off in season one and hasn't yet in season two either. I think that was becaue they kept her spereated from all the other Heores for so long. Even Micah and D.L met up with Hiro before Niki did.
schnitz
Nice analysis, Aunty Mib.

My big beef with Season 2 is the pandering. Two examples off the top of my head:

1) Kristin Bell comes on board, and how is her character revealed? In the act of detecting. C'mon, folks, we've seen that. Let Bell be the mustache-twirling villianess bitch we know she can be. Leave the PI tools at home.

2) The whole clunky Katrina theme. It's insulting and degrading. I feel used, and I wasn't even within 1000 miles of that. (I think it's particularly bad against rumors that David Simon from The Wire will be in New Orleans for his next project - just imagine the difference.)

Claire's & Noah's & West's, the twins', and Hiro's plotlines also come off as pandering to me - simplistic and reductionist, here to help new viewers keep up.

Pick it up, people!

EDIT for berrieh (not sure if it's gonna be read): The twins are JUST so El Norte, it's kinda ridiculous.
wellturned
Boy, was I happy to see this thread.

I started out pretty psyched about Season 2, but I'm worried. It's going downhill, and I can sum up why in one word: writing.

Or rather, three words: the writing sucks.

The unimaginative aspects of the Irish storyline (stereotype much?) is particularly bad. And the crap pacing of the Maya and Alejandro story is another glaring example. We're not supposed to be brought out of the story with thoughts like "Wow, the writers really pulled that out of their butts, didn't they?" And in Season One, that didn't happen -- I felt carried along. But not this season, so far.

There have been bright spots, though.

In my opinion, this is what the writers need to do:

*Focus more time and stronger plots on the characters whose actors carry this show and make me keep tuning in, even when the writing is crap. This means The Pasdar, Jack Coleman, Ventimiglia, Sandra Bennet (she's more interesting to me than Claire these days, sorry), Monica (yeay new character who is interesting!) and Zach Quinto. I thought it weird that Sylar was brought back into the story, but ZQ is a compelling presence, so why not go with it.

And what else do the writers need to do?

*Kill off or fix Niki. She's boring as hell. I like Ali Larter -- I really do -- but her character is going nowhere.
*Make Hiro either FutureHiro or somehow less damn annoying. Masi Oka is grating on my nerves. At the beginning of the show, his enthusiasm was cute, but now it's beyond naive. Ando is about 10 times more interesting. Make Hiro the damn sidekick.

If they do the above and thereby compress and speed up some of the storylines, they can get this show back on track.
QueenoftheDucks
Compared to the beginning of season 1, this season feels a lot better. Until STC STW, I was not interested in Heroes and only really watched it because of the hype.

My main problem with the beginning of season one, and some of the storylines of season 2 is the disconnectedness. The three I am not keen on at the moment are Hiro in Japan, Peter in Ireland and Claire and West. The main reason being that I just don't find the storyline are interesting enough to stand alone as plotlines wholly unlinked to all other plots. Interestingly, Claire, Peter and Hiro were three of my favourite characters in season one. I think because one of the things that interest me about these 3 are their relationships (Hiro/Ando, Peter/Nathan and Claire/Bennet).

Howver, there are some really good storylines. I love the 3Ms (which is interesting because while I didnot like Mohinder or Matt in season 1, I failed to be interested in them most of the time). I love the elder generation plot and I love the company plot. It's a pity that some of the weaker plot lines detract from these really strong plot lines. I love how these 3 storylines interconnect and involve a lot of the characters. I like the fact that we are seeing characters who have never interacted before, interacting now, and so far it's working very well.

I think all the new characters have potential and depending how they integrate with the rest of the characters/plots, they could be an asset.

I love Nathan (always have) and I love that he is really getting in on the action this season. While I feel Peter's character has suffered a result of his separation from Nathan, I feel Nathan has blossomed.
MKoz
The story just hasn't grabbed me yet. Last season, we got a glimpse of the explosion through Isaac's painting and Hiro's trip to the future within the first few episodes. This season, I don't feel like I really know for sure what the main plotline is. Is it the virus? Is it who is killing the elders? Are the two related? I'm guessing "yes" to all three, but I don't feel like the writers have actually established what the goal is yet. Once/If we see people start croaking because of the virus, I'm sure it will feel more compelling and less abstract.

Hiro/Kensei: I am bored by this story. I was thinking it would feel epic and exciting, but it doesn't. The problem is we never actually see Hiro and Kensei doing anything on these missions of theirs. We see them going, and we see them coming back. Part of this is because there are so many characters, they probably don't really have time to show anything else, and the other part is because the writers on this show seem so afraid of cool fight scenes. I'm tired of Hiro's "love" for Yaeko. He's known her how long? And I'm expected to believe he is now conflicted over his friendship with Kensei and his "love" for Yaeko? Screw that. Stop writing Hiro like a lovesick moron, writers. At least with Charlie, I felt like they had chemistry.

Claire/West/Bennet: Explain to me why she made out with West so quickly after discovering he can fly. I could understand her seeing him in a slightly different light after discovering he can fly, but to make out with him immediately is absurd. It highlights the fact that they have so many stories to tell that they can't actually take the time to develop a romance effectively. Good romances usually develop over time. I think they have chemistry, but it's come on too strong, too fast, and too creepy. Mr. Bennet is fine. I love his interaction with Mrs. Bennet and the Haitian, of course.

Mohinder/Matt/Molly: I enjoy it. I love when new characters team up, and it's nice to see Mohinder and Matt teaming up to take care of Molly. It feels natural. I enjoy Mohinder and the Company story. Matt's storyline with his dad is a great way of making his role in things more important this season.

Nathan: I really like Nathan. Adrian Pasdar is so compelling. I love that he's less buttoned-up and more into the action this season. He and Matt are great together. Pasdar has chemistry with everything in existence, so that's great.

Niki: For the love of God, will someone give this woman something to do besides cry and let herself get locked up. I'm convinced the writers simply don't want to write a story for her. I've seen some great ideas online on how to make her more compelling and get her more involved. It can't be that hard. Like others have said, I see the potential in the character.

Monica: I love her, which surprised me. Over the summer, I had read spoilers, and the description of Monica sounded boring, but she's really not. They could get rid of all the new characters, except Monica, and I'd be fine. She's fun, she enjoys her power, and she actually takes the initiative and does things. Interesting power.

Peter: I'm tired of him. I liked him last season, but he really grates on my nerves this season. The Irish storyline is stupid. Caitlyn is all right, I guess, but I don't like how they've hooked up so fast. You cannot write romance, writers! Hopefully, he will get more interesting after he gets away from Ireland. I'm also very tired of his power. He has way too many powers. I blame this stupid Irish storyline on his powers. If he weren't so strong, the writers would probably have never felt the need to separate him from others and give him amnesia. And I'm convinced it will continue for the entirety of the show. He can never really be in total control, or there is no conflict. Revamp his power, or get rid of him.

Sylar/Maya/Alejandro: I hate Sylar. I'm tired of his continued existence. I was really looking forward to Maya from descriptions over the summer, but I've been disappointed in the slowness of her story. Sylar does add a new dynamic, but, man, I hate him. Hopefully, that comment about her blackness being enough to kill the devil was foreshadowing, and she'll be important in killing one of the bad guys. She needs to be here for a reason.

Overall, I'm hoping the show will hit its stride sometime soon, and all of these seemingly unrelated plotlines will converge. It took season 1 a few episodes to get going, so I'm waiting patiently.
Loandbehold
Maya and Alejandro bore me. And I still don't understand their powers. I think their storyline would be more appropriate on a show like Supernatural where they deal urban myths, legends and folklore.

You've helped crystallize my thoughts on this pair. From what we've seen, their powers are quite restricted. Maya gets upset, cries black goo and those around her have black goo leak from their eyes until they either die or Alejandro comes, sings and the goo disappears. We've seen that how many times in 5 episodes? Same thing each time. Most of the other Heroes' powers that we see (at least of the Heroes that we spend more than 5 minutes with) can be used in different ways. Even if we don't at first see this, we can easily imagine it. Someone above thread posted that they see Maya similar to Ted. I can see it in terms of the tragic circumstances, but not w/ their powers. Ted's had many possibilities of what he could do. In s1, the writers then went about and showed how their powers grew, developed and branched out. I haven't seen that w/ the Wonder Twins yet.

Never was a big fan of Sylar and I'm not happy Candace had to be such an idiot so he could escape. I also hope, as others have said, that he doesn't get his powers back. The tortured soul is far more interesting than the unbeatable force. He shouldn't have been brought back in the first place, but, since he was, let's not have him just be who he was last season. Oh, and if you're not going to show other aspects of the Wonder Twins' powers, have Sylar kill them, then get shot and be unable to recover since he still cannot access his powers.

As for Elle, she didn't get to do much, but I loved her phone conversation w/ "Daddy." Also, we got to see her use her power in 2 ways (fusing the lock and crispy-frying Ricky) and I can see her shorting out an entire city block in an effort to locate her prey or facilitate her escape. I'm interested in finding out more about Elle.

I'm liking Monica. I enjoy watching those who like discovering and using their powers rather than hiding from them. Plus, she and Micah are adorable together.

MM&M and Matt/Nathan have both been good plot points so far. Although I would like to see Matt actually use his brain. Daddy was creepy but there was no way Matt should have allowed him to walk out of the room just so he could "show" Matt something. Here's a rule of thumb: If an evil or possibly evil person says they can't tell you, but must show you, DO NOT LET THEM. Make them tell you. Matt knew Molly said the The Nightmare Man was in the apartment. Shocking to learn that your Daddy turned out not to be on the up and up, right Matt?

The brain-use part also applies to Niki. And, if you don't plan to do that, please bring back Jessica and let her kick all kinds of ass, rip people apart and look stunning doing it, 'kay?

I understand Hiro having to be in feudal Japan to make sure Kensei does all he is supposed to do for the stories. Maybe, instead of dragging this out for 5 episodes, they could've condensed it into 1 or 2? Then bring Hiro home and reunite him w/ his one true love, Ando. Of course, I wouldn't want to deny Hiro his little side action w/ Nathan, so put them back together as well.

Peter, I don't mind you and Caitlyn together, so I'm glad they are getting out of Ireland and, you know, moving this plot along. Or, at least giving the appearance of it.

That's been the biggest problem this year, many of the plots have stagnated due to only being given 5 minutes of screen time over 3 episodes, then not in the other 2. This might have been the case in s1, but, since the show was new, I was willing to go w/ it. Now that I know many of the characters, I want to see things move along faster.

I don't see why it would be considered a "myth, legend, folklore" type power. It seems as grounded in as faux-scientific an explanation as any of the other Special's abilities. She releases a toxin/virus when she loses control of her emotions. Alejandro is able to absorb/counteract said toxin/virus.
shalia19
I like it. Some stroyline's bore me a little (I'm not in love with Monica or the siblings, for example) but I feel like each week is improving upon itself. I think shows like these just tend to level off from the hype to be honest. I'm glad I wasn't overly invested in season one therefore my expectations were low to begin with. I do need Peter back in America though with Nathan and the rest of them hero folk.

See that was what I liked about her too.

They do need to stop writing teenage drama, that's for sure, especially since they don't even do it well. I liked Peter and Caitlyn this week, but the writers should be wary of romance while they're at it---they suck at it.

This is another thing that I forgot to mention about this season that I don't like...the romance aspect is pretty annoying. They stayed away from that last season for the most part and that was a good thing. I dont mind Caitlin and Peter so much but West and Claire are just bad.

The good:
Nathan: The development of Nathan is one of the highlights of this season. Although Ireland is stupid, I’m willing to sit through anything that separates Peter long enough for Nathan to get some independent and awesome screentime. Last season, I felt like Peter had a lot of story going on, but somehow, despite all his connections, Nathan's main role was as "Peter's jerk brother".

The House of M: Brilliant. I love all the larger storylines that radiate out from here (virus, company, nightmare man, hooded assassin). Let’s just hope that Mohinder really does have something up his sleeve, because he’s been superb this season, and I don’t want him to regress into a tool. The only thing I would ask for is for them to turn on some lights in the apartment.

Micah/Monica: Yeah, she’s a bit TOO perfect, but she’s really likeable, and I am loving Micah’s new role in the show. He had that potential last year, when he was jazzed about practical uses for the powers, but couldn’t do anything about it. I think the Katrina thing was a mistake, though. It clearly wasn’t researched very well, and I could have done without the montage.

HRG/Haitian: They are always made of gold. I’m looking forward to more of their scenes.

The bad:
They do need to stop writing teenage drama, that's for sure, especially since they don't even do it well. I liked Peter and Caitlyn this week, but the writers should be wary of romance while they're at it---they suck at it.
I have two main quibbles with season 2. First is the lack of quality cliffhangers. Second is the introduction of terribly executed romantic storylines. I think they are slowing down the show, and sometimes are so badly conceived that I want to leave the room. For example:

Claire/West: Please, make it stop. Horrible writing.

Oireland: I like Caitlyn, but I don't feel much of a connection between the two, so, as Squerb pointed out in her recap, all they do is make out. The whole thing was very rushed and badly executed and is making Peter look bad, because he would rather stay with some girl he just met than look for his potential family.

Japan: This was briefly my favorite storyline when it was about well-written and well-acted banter between Hiro and Kensei. They were great together, and I adore Kensei. However, now the romantic aspect has taken over and made it horrible.

Sylar and his female admirers: Ew. I think Zach Quinto’s sexy, but this is awful. It killed Candice’s character (figuratively and literally), and given how awkwardly the other love stories have been done, the inevitable Maya thing might kill his.

Unrelatedly, I really don’t like the concept of Elle. I have zero interest in snarky, bratty, slightly crazy, evil daddy’s girls. She adds this unwelcome element of Heathers with powers, which honestly, we get enough of from Claire’s storylines. Her addition makes me sad.
