This is a thread for discussing the extra video clips available on the CBS website.

I was hoping that some generous soul(s) would post brief descriptions of the latest ones for thos of us who can't access them.
mjforty
Okay, I'll just deal with the clips that didn't get aired:

Morgan Confronts Taylor and Leila:
Basically, the title says it all. Morgan tells Taylor and Leila that she's lost her patience with them and their refusal to do any work. She tells them that if they're just going to sit there and be dead weight, they should leave. Taylor starts laughing and they yell at her for laughing everytime someone tells them how much they dislike her laziness. Morgan tells her it's not funny. They then cut-away to Leila saying that Morgan and Markelle were yelling at them for not working and Taylor started laughing. Leila said she started listening and she thought that maybe it was time to pull her own weight.

Should Have Been Working:
Zach is handing out the money to the girls on the Yellow team. He thanks them for working so hard. He gets to Taylor and Leila and says "You should have been working hard from the beginning. I can't pay you for doing nothing." He then says to the rest of the group: "All right. Let's go spend our money." Taylor makes a kind of grumpy noise to show her displeasure.

One of the girls:
It shows the girls on the Yellow Team getting ready for the challenge. Starts with Taylor saying "I hate the dictator, Zach." It then shows another girl (whose name I do not know), saying "He's not going to be making us win. We'll be the ones making us win." Another girl says "Taylor, you get to do what we get to do. Woo hoo!" Taylor responds (somewhat sarcastically, I think): "Woo hoo!"

It's all very Taylor-centric. I really would have liked to have seen more of Taylor's reaction to not getting paid. Also, it's interesting that Morgan and Markelle were telling Taylor to go home in the first clip and Sophia was saying the same thing at the town meeting. It sounds like there are more than a few people who are trying to pressure Taylor into just going home if she's not going to work.
blitzen13
Thanks, mjforty! Yeah, they are very Taylor-centric, as was the whole episode. I was hoping the extra clips would show some of the kids we haven't seen much of. I would have liked to see that clip of Leila talking about working harder, since the onlt other times we have seen her she has been following Taylor around.

And I guess Zack didn't say what would be done with the extra money in that other clip? I would hope it would go to something the rest of the team could share, that would be the fair thing to do.

The clips are working for me this week! A couple of bits that didn't make it to the show:

--a longer clip of the dirty clothes fashion show, with Kennedy emceeing. As each kid shows up she describes their outfit and how long they have been wearing it (3 days, 5 days, ect.). She's pretty good at it, and quite a lot of the kids make an appearance. Campbell hams it up, Leila shows off her pageant queen strut, Jasmine is a natural.

--another clip about the dirty clothes piling up. Jared and Mike discuss how gross it is wearing dirty clothes and point out things strewn all over the floor. Nathan and Alex scrub clothes by hand. Markelle complains about how slow the laundry is and notes the drying laundry in the dirt (without bothering to pick anything up). Nathan gets upset and explains that it takes a while to wash everything by hand and the wind often knocks things off the line. Markelle comes off as a bit of a jerk.

This week, the clips show some of the other kids in the Talent Show:

Markelle -- does a nice rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and then does a sort of hip-hop remix complete with boom box noises.

Morgan and Pharoh -- Do some nice harmonizing on "America, The Beautiful."

Sophie -- Recites a poem she wrote about living in Bonanza. It's about what you'd expect a poem to be when it's been written by a tween.

Leila and Taylor -- Sing "Old McDonald" while Leila holds onto a goat and Taylor holds onto a chicken. Taylor pretty much giggles her way through the song.

Nathan -- Does a decent performance of "Greensleeves" in that choir boy soprano voice that's so popular in shows about British boarding schools.

He should sing the song Christian Bale sang in Empire of the Sun!

CBS is sick for messing around with people who have limited comps video power by cramming in MANDATORY commercial viewing to get to clips that last a few scant seconds. That's really cheap of CBS and uncaring ,unkind, unfeeling.Rebooting, waiting waiting waiting, clips false start or run trashy.Ultimate commercialist nazis when it comes to just wanting to view a few clips.I wasted almost an hour to see about 10 mins or less of material,vs 40 mins of commercials.....loading was slow & slowed down my comp.
blackrose602
I feel your pain, jlehane. I have a comp with decent video memory and fairly high specs, but I still have a lot of trouble with the CBS videos. And I'm on satellite internet with download restrictions. My DVR went out and I missed an episode. Six hours later, having far exceeded my download allowance and having been downgraded to dialup speed, I had managed to see half of the episode. Just a horrible player, in my opinion.
Tyuila
Some of the videos don't even show what they are supposed to. For example, trying to watch Eric's most recent video clip gets a clip of Emilie talking about something (yo-yoing?) instead.
iMissEthan
A few of them are marked incorrectly, and I can't seem to access the ones from episode 102 and before. Sometimes they freeze up (but never when I'm watching the ads-how odd), but for the most part, I could watch from the newest episode (108) to 104 without seeing any ads. The ads started for me when I tried to access ep 103.

I want to reiterate how cool I think Alex is. He's so smart and his artwork & story on his page are also worth seeing. There are also photos of him there with less Bugs Bunny like teeth. I'm sure his other front tooth has grown in by now. I hope there is a reunion show when the season is over, so we can see the kids bigger and cleaned up.

There's a good clip this week of the red team taking a group hike to rehash the Nathan issue. More of the kids apologize to him, and explain to Guylan why his comments upset them. Everyone is pretty respectful and mature, and none of it really fits the "all children are hellbeasts" theme of this week, which probably explains why it didn't make the show.
blitzen13
That is a nice clip. Specifically, Guylan makes a nice speech about treating each other with respect, and DK, Maggie and Markelle make sincere apologies to Nathan.

There are now more clips from last week regarding the talent show and the lack of entertainment in the town.
--Mallory demonstrates that she can lick her own elbow
--Anjay cracks all his still-growing joints
--Sophia admits she didn't like Greg and Blaine's balcony routine
--Olivia says she did stand-up because she has such a good sense of humour (!)
--several people comment on how funny Kennedy was
--Greg says he was supposed to be Juliet, but people wanted to see Blaine in a dress
--Migle confirms that Blaine could pass as a girl
--Sophie explains what qualities make a gold star winner

There is also a picture in the photo section showing who was at the religious service where Hunter seemed to be officiating: Morgan, Laurel, Olivia, Mallory, Alex, Gianna, Markelle, and Mike.

--Sophia admits she didn't like Greg and Blaine's balcony routine

I don't think Sophia would like anything Greg does to tell the truth.
DownsideUp
I don't think Sophia would like anything Greg does to tell the truth.

Sophia reminds me of the Molly Ringwald character in The Breakfast Club (Claire). Eventually, she'll fall for the bad boys (Bender aka Greg), whether she likes it or not.

--Mallory demonstrates that she can lick her own elbow

I always thought that was impossible???
iMissEthan
Not if you're a little kid with flexibility and still growing limbs. Children's tongues are often very long in comparison with the rest of their bodies. Maybe tongues grow early, and that's part of the reason for so much lisping by tots.
blitzen13
A summary of some of the clips on the site this week:

Emilie and Campbell both think Alex is the smartest kid in town. Campbell also mentions Anjay.

Anjay hates standardized testing and wishes the curriculum was more flexible. He also doesn't like streaming kids into different levels of classes.

Migle talks about the lower standard of education in the US compared to Lithuania.

Brett looks forward to watching the chickens getting slaughtered.

Markelle thinks the girls don't really care about the chickens and just made a fuss to be difficult. He says they had no problem eating the chickens anyway.

Greg is in favour of home schooling. Laurel is in favour of a later start to the school day. Sophia would prefer to learn on her own time but realizes she probably wouldn't have the motivation.

Colton hates school because you have to work. Olivia hates math.

Nathan, being pedantic, explains that although you can enjoy, like, or love school, it isn't "fun" like a roller coaster. Not that he likes roller coasters.

Jared is frustrated because he is smarter than his teachers. Mike also talks about how gifted he is.

Kelsey thinks the US should teach kids how to go to school and read books to combat illiteracy.

Leila thinks other kids at school are jealous of her because she is little and pretty and nice.

Kennedy thinks everyone in Bonanza City is acting like two-year olds.

Natasha says Laurel has taught her to demand respect from boys.

And contrary to what she said in her televised interview, Taylor was actually afraid the council would pick the books because so many Green teammembers wanted them.

From the clips, I was surprised to hear that Greg has been homeschooled since the fifth grade. He doesn't really fit the stereotype. Nothing against homeschooling, it's just that there is usually a cliche portrayal of the somewhat weird intellectual kid (Nathan, for example), or of the extremely conservative Christians. Greg seems to be more of a jock, not incredibly intellectual (not that he's stupid), and he doesn't strike me as being fervently religious. He's been described as a rancher's kid, though, which might make more sense -- if he lives in a more rural area, it might be easier to homeschool than to make the long commute.
Going Green
Kennedy thinks everyone in Bonanza City is acting like two-year olds.

Well, amen to that.

Seems to be some hubris among the children of Bonanza City...Jared and Mike, I'm looking at you. The affected precociousness of others is getting to be tiresome, as well, ALEX. Honestly.
yruneh
Leila thinks other kids at school are jealous of her because she is little and pretty and nice.

I find that pretty surprising, because I think Leila is a weird-looking little girl (and not weird in a good sense). Normally, I wouldn't say that about a little kid (just think it), but I don't mind because Leila is so vain. I'm guessing the vanity she shows in the clip is one of the real reasons kids don't like her.

Where are you all finding these clips? I've looked all over the CBS site and can't find them.

It took me about 20 minutes last night to figure this out. Look at the left of the page where it says "Browse Videos" and click on on "Kids":

There you shall find endless amount of airtime that the redshirts never got on air!

D'oh! You're right! Wow, must have had a brain freeze moment. I'll leave in my error for kicks ;)

I wish they left in a lot of these unaired confessionals. Some of them are downright funny. I like Brett's reasoning why he became "punk". Blame it all on the step-father! LOL
maraleia
Thanks guys! I hope the last episode has a reunion of all the kids since it's almost 9 months later. I'd love to see what these kids are up to.

Another promo for the finale is already up on CBS.com's Kid Nation site, if anybody wants to watch. The title ("We've All Decided to Go Mad") comes from Olivia quote that they show during it.
lioness51
So I watched the preview at CBS and yeah they do look like they've gone mad. I'm not sure I understand the grabbing all the stuff from the stores. I'm assuming because there's no job board, no division of labor, there's no payment and so they figure everything in the store is free but still what would they even do with half of that stuff.

The other interesting thing is that Emilie seems to be in a fight...seriously what is it with her. This is the second time a preview shows her being pulled back from beating people up.

They must be contemplating sacrificing the remaining chickens for a final feast!

Considering what happened last week, I think her chicken crusade days are over. She's all talk and no action.

Watched the promo a few times and even with slow-mo, but I still can't seem to figure out how she's futilely trying to attack. I'm thinking it looks like Campbell...? Anyone got better insight?
Limbonaut
I think it's like the last day of school where you kind of feel free. And in that situation with no adults(except for cameramen willing to tape ANYTHING) you're going to get some craziness.
DownsideUp
I find it very interesting that in Jasmine's video clip for this week, she mentions Greg as being "one of the nice people" in town. I wonder why we haven't heard from her on-screen? I guess Greg really isn't the meanest, dirty rotten kid a lot of the others (CBS included) have made him out to be.
BlackKatanas
I don't know that one kid's comment that Greg was one of the nice kids somehow invalidates the numerous other kids who have called Greg some variation on "mean," "violent" or "aggressive." I'm thinking of Sophia, Migle, Natasha, Taylor, etc. Even Blaine has, on a number of occasions, called Greg variations on "immature." Maybe Jasmine didn't interact with Greg much? Maybe he just never went crazy around her? It's good that some kids think he's a decent person, though; it means he didn't burn his bridges with everyone in town.
coco medina
Jasmine doesn't say Greg's one of the nicest people in town. She says that Morgan is the nicest, and that a bunch of other people are nice, too. Then she says that Greg's the "coolest because he's older and hangs out with the older kids."

I don't really think that in the way kids use it, the term "cool" is interchangeable with "nice," though.

Lioness pointed out in the Greg thread:

In the extra videos at the CBS site, there is a cute moment in the video showing the kids packing up on the last day. Markelle comes into the Blue Bunkhouse while Greg's packing and gives him this silvery, glittery belt that definitely looks more his style than anything Greg would wear.

Greg's slight smile when he takes it is cool and I just thought that was cute. I didn't think Markelle and Greg were even that close and it was just funny seeing him give him something that you know chances are Greg won't wear but it's this nice token from one to the other.

I just watched it (The Last Day) and noticed that, in the same video, I think Michael has DK's leather cuff bracelet. It looks like the exact same one. Of course, that could not be the case for various reasons, but if it's the former, I think that would be pretty cool as they would be another pair that was not shown to be particurally close on the show.

I also saw the very same bracelet on Greg's wrist during one of the town hall meetings. Very odd.

Those could be parting gifts from the Pueblos. It would explain why 3 of the 4 kids that visited them have the same cuff. And the screencap of Greg is from that episode.
streith
That glittery silver studded belt is on every young hipster (and hipster wannabe) kind of kid in NYC. Greg'd wear it in a heartbeat, IMHO. It'd be fine on him.
Waitohooru
How do I even view the videos anyway? I think for the past four days in a row, I tried to watch the videos, but nothing happened. I have high-speed internet, and Flash and RealPlayer, but still nothing. What am I doing wrong?
