They look pretty competitive and in good shape for young women their age. Not to mention beautiful. I'm kind of bummed they liked the Hippies, though.

According to
their CBS profile, "Marianna doesn't have a sensor button." Poor thing! I personally know how difficult it is going through life without a censor button, but I'm quite curious as to how the missing "sensor button" will manifest in a Race Around the World (or, at the very least, from Ireland to Croatia)!

They are very pretty. Especially Julia. I am slightly considered abot Marianna not having a "censor" button. And they just had to mention they would flirt, to get ahead. Sigh.
Still, I easily prefer them over the other all-female team, that will be gracing us this season.

She should be more concerned about not having an "On-Star" button.
Agree that they have to be better than Heave 2.0, but admiring BJ and Tyler, yikes. Is their second favorite contestant Jonathan?
Julia sure brings the beautiful, though.

I think Marianna looks a lot like Jessica DeBen, first booted from Survivor: Fiji.

Originally from Miami, but now from LA, which means that at least 15 of the 22 contestants have California connections. Are the producers that lazy, cheap, or just unable to relate to real people from outside Southern California? Why do they bother accepting applications and holding auditions around the country?
All of the "young and beautiful" teams are from the LA area, with only the grandfather/grandson, goths, and father/daughter teams having NO California connection. I expect those three teams to be among the first eliminated leaving an entirely California based race.
How boring.
I think a race made entirely of real people - married couples, friends in their 30's and 40's, from all parts of the country would make for a much more entertaining race.

I heard Erika from BB4/BB7 was in charge of casting for this show. If so, that explains all the California-based, model/actor teams.

I agree. It's actually quite disheartening for me. I would love to be on TAR but alas, I am nothing but a girl in her mid-30's, born and raised in boring old Kansas, living in Colorado, and going to school full-time. BLAH, who wants that when you can have model/actor/Californiaites running the race.
On another note, at first glance, I thought Julia was Winnie from
The Wonder Years.

Whilst I think history shows that "famewhore mactor" contestants can be amongst the most endearing in TAR (Smith Brothers anyone?) and "real, normal, everyday, normal, down to earth, normal people with busted up teeth who are normal and have normal jobs" can be amongst the most annoying (David & Mary for me) I am slightly irritated by the casting this season.
It's never really bothered me before that so many people who wanted to be in tv ended up being cast on a tv show. I mean, that's only to be expected. Wanting to be on tv, even in the "don't mind" sense, is kind of a pre-requisite for turning up. It does however seem that a lot of this year's contestants don't just want to be in the tv industry : they're already there, and pretty well established (Jason, Julia, Shana-na-na-na). That does strike me as being slightly "unfair".

Sisters, probably less than a year apart, best of friends and worst of enemies?
Dammit, there goes my hook to get in (once they FINALLY allow Canadians on.)
As for the casting...doesn't matter to me about where they are from, so long they have some sort of personality trait that makes me want to love or loathe them. I would have more of an issue if I was just neutral on them.

If that's true, Erika was such a good judge of character, no wonder she would be chosen to do casting. At least she didn't cast BB alum like Boogie, Dick and his spawn or Erik.

Hey! I'm in my 20s. What am I? Pinocchio? Just kidding. For me, it's not so much the predominance of young people, it's all the damn model/actors. On the CBS website, even those who don't identify themselves as Mactors in their occupation section go on to say they are just that in the personal info. I don't care if you're young, but be a young pig farmer, or mailman. Hey, here's a cool idea: TAR - Dirty Jobs addition. They could take people who have been featured on Dirty Jobs, team them up, and send them around the world. That would be awesome. Plus Mike Rowe and Phil could co-host. How great would that be?

Plus she's a math whiz and a published author, so I think she's doing okay.
On topic? I think these two could take the shady blondes in a free-for-all. Can't wait to see it happen. They look like they have guts, and if you can survive childhood with a sister within a year of your own age, the Race should be a picnic.

I was put off by the beginning when they talked about how they said they were going to be a soldier. Soldiers are out there risking their lives, they aren't on a reality show. Then they started talking about one of them being a woman and one of them being a man.
I wouldn't be sad to see them go.

They really didn't do much, beside be very loud. I did think their "We'll use our awesome bodies to get ahead!" spiel at the beginning, was lame as always. Still, I wait and see.
But I still think Julia is very pretty.

Judging by the pronounciation of their names and the way they were calling at each other, they looked/sounded Latinas to me. Did anyone else get that impression? There's nothing on that in their CBS bios. Even if it isn't true, I couldn't not like them because of that. I hope they get their act together and jump up a few places in the next legs. I don't want them gone before the Not!BQs.

I thought they were Latinas as well. The "we'll use our incredible bodies to get ahead" bit was especially funny considering that their bodies aren't all that great (at least one of them has the physique of a slim 15 year old boy), and the fact that a few intros later, the L.A. blondes said pretty much the same thing, and their bodies were smokin'.
Dale

Marianna & Julia were born to a Cuban family, so that would, indeed, make them Latinas.

I have no idea how I feel about these two. I mean, we saw all of what, 2 minutes of them? Granted, it's the first ep so the editors want to focus on a few teams at first and then other teams later. But right now, this is Team Who? for me.

Not only did we see very little of them during the episode, but they also appeared very little in the insider videos on the CBS website. At least they do come off well where they do appear, leaving a much better impression than their original interview video.
They seem pretty bright and levelheaded, which may be why they aren’t getting much air time.
It certainly sounds like they had a tough upbrinding and are in the race for a lot more than just getting on TV (unlike certain other all-women team in this race).
From things said in other videos it seems that they also had a lot of trouble with their donkey; something that was hardly shown during the episode (probably because they never resorted to cussing out the poor animal).
I hope they stay around for a while.

Gorgeous. This straight girl will root for them to make it far just for the eye candy. It was hilarious to me when the blondes were like, "We'll use our looks to get ahead." The blondes are a couple of dried-up, fake hags compared to these two beauties.

Are they the team in the preview for the second episode, riding the bike/cart with their hair pulled back and one of them saying, "Finish strong!"?
I thought they were quite appealing in that clip.

I thought they talked about how they were going to combine the positive traits of men and women. And the only positive trait they could think of as being feminine was "being pretty".
It's probably a bit much of me to dislike them just for that, but I literally cannot remember one other thing about them from the episode, apart from that one sliding her body downwards into the pool whilst the other one just sat there, like a pair of scary sexy automoton twins from a dystopian future, so I guess I'll have to.

At the back of the pack for another episode. Not only that, they were the only team who didn't get some kind of comment when they were each leaving the pit stop.

Had they gotten on the earlier flight, I think they could have easily finished in the top 5 as they did their tasks pretty well.
Ashe
Nov 11, 2007 @ 9:27 pm
I agree. It's possible to stay near the back of the pack but still do well, and these two definitely did it. They even passed up a team on the first flight at the last second! Ninth to seventh isn't too shabby at all.
I like how the editors obviously tried to make it look like they were a witness to Ronald's assholery, when they may or may not have actually been paying attention.

I kind of like them, even though this is the second week in a row, finished in the bottem. I liked how they didn't seem to flip out too much after their first mistake, kept their cool, and did a good job on the challenges (esepcially the RB.) And I still think they are pretty. Combind them with Rachel, and the brunettes are kicking the blondes asses in the eye-candy department, IMO.
One problem though is I can't understand what they are saying some of the time. I might need to whip out some close captioning, for their moments.

Nov 11, 2007 @ 9:35 pm
I like this team, although the lack of screentime and the fact that they were the only team to not have comments at the beggining of the show kinda scares me that they might be the next to go. I thought they were one of the best teams out there racing if it wasn't just for that one driving error, which could have lead them to their doom like Debbie & Bianca from Season 7

Nov 11, 2007 @ 10:24 pm
I agree, their performance wasn't too shabby this week, but come on girls, you need to stop making silly navigational mistakes (like last week while getting to the church in Ireland)! It might end up doing them in eventually, and I don't want them out of the race so fast. I agree with thuganomics85, they certainly are pretty to look at and they seemed very calm and collected upon realizing their mistake at the beginning when they could very well have started the blame game, which was refreshing. I did think it was kind of cute how excited they got when they saw Kate & Pat and Ronald & Christina at the airport.
Dale
Nov 12, 2007 @ 5:23 pm
The fact that they don't play the blame game when things go wrong is more than enough to endear them to me. I think they're cool girls, on the whole, and am glad they not only stayed in this past leg, but also passed up a first-flight team.

Every time I hear a racer say "I can do "X" because I used to do "Y" in a prior life," it usually means they are about to biff a task. However, Mariana absolutely owned that trench jump. She didn't even need a running start.
So far, so good. They are also easy on the eyes, so I kinda' hope they stick around for a while.

I want to like this team, as they seem to keep their cool and not have hissyfits when the going gets tough. I don't dislike them, but I'm not actively rooting for them yet, either. And yes, they are a lot more attractive than the blond girls.

Hi you all!
I have to say that the Florida sisters have a great potential to be the F/Fteam to win the race this season. They may have not reached the top five position yet, but they are clearly physically strong and have a good teamwork. Navigation proved to be the weak point, but that pole vault? Mariana really rocked it! I was and still am Dustin/Kandice fan and I'm looking for a team this season that could at least be in the same league as the BQs. Certainly, the TAR12 blondes don't own it. The Florida sisters however, like the BQ's during TAR10, they started out slow but they proved themselves strong as the race goes on. They could be the next "silent assassins" as the BQs was tagged before. It's better that they're not seen as a threat yet, but they have capabilities to make it. After all, it's just two legs down, and more to go - that is, if they survive leg three, which I hope they will. They just have to worked on with their navigation skills though.
Desert Belle
Nov 14, 2007 @ 5:44 pm
I like this team. They really need to step it up on the navigational skills...that's gonna be their downfall.
They rocked on the RB.
