Grandson/Grandfather from around Lake Michigan.

The first-ever grandparent/grandchild team? Instant pre-like!
But man, Nicolas really towers over Donald. He's like a redwood compared to him!
Kind of unnerved that they put Nicolas on the left rather than the right, though.

Since Nicolas is a pilot, that should put a lot of interesting spins on the airport dramas. I wonder if he flies for one of the commercial airlines?

Hmm.. it sounds like Nicolas plans on being the navigator and the driver. And work the airports. He's kinda making Donald out to be the next Flo.
Still, I'm rooting for them, but can't think they'll go very far unless Donald has some serious fitness and strength for roadblocks.

If Nicolas is a commercial pilot, I am REALLY interested as to what he can do at an airport.

Fat load of good that did the ATC's though. Well ok they weren't pilots but dumb Josh thought it'd help.

I would think a pilot would do better than an ATC at the airport game, given that he actually travels and sees multiple airports. Time will tell, naturally.

They show Nicolas getting out of a light plane, and based our of San Juan? It's says "works for an airline", and "Occupation: Pilot", if it was a biggie, they'd have him listed as "commercial airline pilot", I don't think he'll be a huge help around airports.
Oh, and in that listing on
TV Guide,
"He describes himself as reliable, competitive and goofy"
I mean, GOOFY! Seriously? Not what I'm looking for in a pilot.
But if they have skydiving, I'm thinking he's good to go.

I wonder if he has an ID which will let him into pilot lounges or airline offices at the airport to get insider info on flights or priority on seats/waiting lists.

I don't think he'd be allowed to take that kind of ID on the race, Good Queen Jane.

I wonder why the grandchild is listed before the grandparent? "Donald & Nicolas" rolls off the tongue more easily than "Nicolas & Donald."

Good Queen Jane my sister who is not a pilot but does work for a major airline has an ID that helps her get through airport security and at her own airline, but that's it. And it isn't always helpful at all airport security stations she's found, it depends on the airport so I suspect even if he did have some form of ID like that it probably wouldn't help him too much. Especially when you consider all the international travelling they're doing.
I do like the idea of this team. I hope they are as awesome in reality as I want them to be. I find I really prefer the family teams (including marrieds) to the dating teams.

Nicholas looks a bit like Ron, the Iraqi War POW. And it looks like CBS needs a new editor: "He describes his Teammate as rough around the edges and not too excepting[SIC] of people who go against his advice."

I also like the idea of this team. It has to be cool to have a grandpa who feels young enough to undertake something like this. It could be very cool.

Probably because there's already a "Ronald/Christina" (like Kelly/Jon and Jon/Al in the same season). It's weird to have a parent-child team where the older one doesn't have their name first.

I mean, GOOFY! Seriously? Not what I'm looking for in a pilot.
Possible to be goofy (as a personality trait) and a great pilot (skills and tactics), the two are not mutually exclusive. I like a pilot with some personality... and this kid has it.
And what an amazing opportunity to be able to travel with grandparent (grandchild) on this race! My favorite team based on this dynamic... has nothing to do with the fact that Nic is friends with my daughter and her fiance...

The idiotic misuse of "excepting" for "accepting" kept distracting me from what I meant to say about these two, specifically because of that quote:
On the fence about this team, but only because I'd hate to see cranky Grandpa (who doesn't like it when people don't take his advice...) berating/bossing goofy Grandson should Grandson come up with an idea or two.
Amid the "volatile" this and the "bitchy" that and the "putting our relationship to the test" hootie on the other contestant bios, I hope that Nicolas & Donald will be somewhat functional and fun.

About friggin' time they had a grandparent/grandkid team. That makes them an instant pre-favorite for me. Don't look too much alike, though. Someone in the intervening generations must have had the tall gene.

The biographical information on CBS and in the press release stated that Nicolas is a pilot for an airline who flies out of San Juan, so I accept that at face value.
Also, since Nicolas attended college to earn a degree in an aviation program, it is possible to be an airline pilot at 23. But heck, he must have started flying when he was 13 or so, since there's a good bit of flying time required to have a pilot license endorsed for any passenger airline aircraft. Also means that Nicolas should be able to read any map.
I am glad to see that TAR finally has a grandparent/grandchild team, though.

He is a first officer for American Eagle Airlines, which is a regional airline for American Airlines. I don't know him but my husband works for American Eagle and so the news spread through the company. He is young but Eagle does hire individuals with less than 1000 hours of flight time, especially for bases that really need pilots, like San Juan PR.

Donald looks like a tough bird and hopefully he/they won't crash & burn early.
I'm sure Nicholas won't have his airline pass, but any knowledge of flights, operations, & conditions will be helpful working flight times. Plus, he could work the reservations desks like no one.

That's what we all thought about Steve/Dave, who ultimately got eliminated because they couldn't get a good flight out of France.
Much as I'm rooting for these guys, they've got a worrying "first boot" feeling about them.

Yeah, I heard that, too...and it didn't sit well with me either.
That's what we all thought about Steve/Dave, who ultimately got eliminated because they couldn't get a good flight out of France.
Those guys couldn't get out of their own way. And a lot does come from getting to the airport before anyone else and flights available to the specific country they're going to and I think a pilot is different from ATC work. Hopefully, Nic will work it better.

Why is it we finally get a shot of a man in his underwear from a not-so-attractive man in the season with the least attractive male cast? I didn't know whether to laugh or admire him for his sheer craziness. Those were interesting previews.
I don't think they have much hope (he took a bad fall in this episode, didn't he?) but I *loved* the moment where they were casually walking down the road with their donkey, passing up all the teams who treated their animals like objects of cruelty.

I laughed so loud at his comment, "These are so easy to move, aren't they?" as they were passing the Stuck Ones that I woke up my dog. HA!
I thought it looked like Donald was having some serious ankle issues on the hillside there but his comment made it sound like his shoe was stuck. I didn't notice any limping as he was walking by with his wonderful sassy self.

I don't think he looks like Ron at all. I think he looks like a combination of ratface Eric and whiny DJ Paolo. I wish I could say I won't hold it against him, but those are two of my most hated reality contestants ever.

As right as Ronald was that they were being too rude to their ticket lady, I'm a bit glad they still got on the flight over him and Christina.
And yes, no more near-naked Donald, please.
But . . . did I hear Nicolas call his grandfather by his first name?

I don't think Nicolas was being too rude to the ticket lady...ok maybe a little, but I think it came off more as rude because he was so hyped up and worried about getting on the flight. Probably just the adrenaline.
I'm liking this team.
And count me in as another not ever wanting to see Donald in his skivvies!!
