From ABC.com:

Nick finally meets Tripp's nemesis, elusive billionaire Simon Elder, and the feuding Darling twins throw themselves separate million dollar birthday parties.
Marquis
What a satisfying show - overall the characterizations are just so brilliant. Poor poor Jeremy and my beloved Brian with Brian Jr. I'm glad that the twins are back together, I am extremely glad that the deception is over with Brian Jr. and I still want to know which kid isn't Trip's. My money was on the twins, but after Trip was so proud of Jeremy, I'm not sure.

I loved it, but I wouldn't want those ant pictures in my house under any circumstances.
raineyrain
To be completely superficial, is Jeremy getting hotter and hotter with each episode?

Also, loved little Ms. Oblivious Karen talking to Brian Jr. about being the luckiest orphan in the world?

I loved the little fly by comment after Jeremy had informed Nick of the pregnancy, "Don't tell Dad, I don't want him paying them off like he always does. I like this one." Ha.
Thena
I want a soundbyte of Donald Sutherland saying "Justin Timberlake".

Oh, Brian. Why did you just have to inch closer to being my favourite Darling?

Also still loving the twins and as pasty as Jeremy is, he is pretty cute.
nilyank
This was one of my favorite of all the episodes.

I loved Brian in every scene that he was in. From his "no, not really" to his bible story lesson, his breaking down over losing his wife and daughters to coming back to the Darling mansion.

I also suspected that Freddy would impress all of Patrick's cronies for his golf fame.

The twins party, Jeremy's singing, and them making up.

I know we are suppose to assume that twins are Dutch's but I keep thinking it is Brian because he doesn't feel like he fits in with the rest of the world.
rosettaresearch
Awwwwwww. That pretty much sums it up.

For the first time I liked Brian. Poor guy, for all his bluster, he loves his wife and family. That scene in the bedroom when Brian, Jr. apologizes and Brian Sr. says it's not his fault -- awwww.

Poor Jeremy. Lied to by the one woman who he thought loved him for himself not his money. Feeling like a disappoint to his dad. Finally growing up and realizing he needs to do something.

I think I like Karen better when she is not stalking Nick. Must stronger person (blackmailing your own brother, hehehehehehe) and less totally pathetic.

The trust fund. So they would have a start in life. Because as Darlings they would have such a hard time otherwise getting ahead. Also, if it is a trust, I don't think Tripp could just cut it off completely. He can probably extend it the five years, but not just deny them the money.

Leaning towards both twins not being Tripps and Nick being a Darling somehow. Would they get to it already, pretty please with sugar on top.
TVGuy88
Great episode. I love the twins and Brian Jr. is so sweet.

Tripp was hilarious when he said he didn't know who Justin Timberlake and the likes were.

Karen was actually tolerable and not annoying tonight.

Speaking of that, next week looks great!
mtlchickie
I want a soundbyte of Donald Sutherland saying "Justin Timberlake".

The way he virtually spat out his name was GOLD. I couldn't stop giggling.

This is the best new show of the season. Dammit ABC, what's taking so long to renew it?
twistedsoul7
I love Karen. She just doesn't give a shit. It is refreshing, bwah. Also loved her "Oh Sorry" to Brian Jr. Welcome to the wonderful world of The Darlings kid.

The twins. They are totally Nick's siblings.
bneeweenee
Letitia and Brian look so much alike, it makes me want to kiss the casting director. Love this show for so many reasons, but that was what put me over the top tonight.
luvalicious
I KNEW there was some calculating, bitchalicious in Karen. And I floved it. And was that Eddie Cibrian I saw in the promos! SQUEEEE!

I felt like Nick's wife was overreacting. Particularly because last week she was bitching about the cost of designer shoes... art being totally subjective, she could have at least seen his side.

At first I thought Brian was full of it, and then I felt sorry for him, and at the end I fell somewhere between. When Karen said "sorry" to Brian Jr., I didn't know if she meant for thinking he was an orphan still or for Brian being his father, but I laughed. Also, I floved Brian Jr.'s "yeahhh... about that." I don't know if Brian's wife knew which one of them was lying, but she sure showed her smarts.

There was a really awkward cut to commercial during Jeremy's "song" but overall, he impressed me so much. From his outburst to Tripp to his saying he should get a job... it seemed a little anvilicious how Tripp commented on how "different" they are but who knows? Could be just to confuzzle us.

edited for spelling, blame zee wine.

This show just knocks my socks off. It's hard to say what mt favorite part was. Brian Jr. spilling the beans? Jeremy singing? Tripp with his "Justin Timberlake"? Karen blackmailing Patrick? Wow. Just... wow.
JakeyIsSusan
I don't know what it was, but the scene right before the intro, where Brian's wife is in the bathtub and Gustav confesses all to her caused me to literally applaud. This show is so fast-paced, but it's done in a way in which you have faith in the writers, unlike Berlanti's other show (Brothers & Sisters) which is kind of flying at the seat of its pants right now. And while I don't know her name, I really like Brian's wife and the glimpses of the character that we get: All we seem to know is that she's a very devout Christian and probably more than Brian will ever be.

Did anybody get the vibe that there was a LOT edited out tonight? Several scenes seemed to end very abruptly. I can only hope they'll show up on the DVD.

I died at Juliet's "Let them eat cake!" complete in Marie Antoinette wig. I constantly flip-flop on Karen, because blackmailing Pat was not cool.

Blair Underwood is a beautiful, beautiful man. Loved the random Jesse Bradford appearance. And Eddie Cibrian next week? I'm having heart palpitations. I need a drink of water.
Three Olives
God I loved how completely random it was to put Jeremy in his underwear on that bridge, there needs to be more scantily clad Jeremy in this show.

I really feel like all the characters in this show have finally hit their stride and I'm loving the relationship between the twins, I kind of feel like it's my relationship with my sister.
Puds38
I just adore Brian & Brian Jr. I hope it's Brian who is Dutch's kid cause I think the twins would be too obvious.
fengshoe
I'm not sure I could love this show even more than I already do.

I loved all of Brian's scenes, just awesome. I think my favorite bit was how they portrayed the fallout of the affair. Mei Ling Hwa was genuinely hurt and angry and Brian was truly upset about hurting her. Loved his breaking down infront of Nick about losing her and the twins. Loved it.

Karen is interesting, she invested her money and seems to be really conniving when she wants to be. I can't say I loved her as much in this episode though because threatening her brother like that so Freddy could get in the club seemed a little over the top for me. I enjoy watching her be conniving and smart, just not so much toward her own brother. I do love not watching her drool over Nick every other minute though.

I enjoyed the twist with the pregnancy because everyone kept guessing it wouldn't be Jeremy's and it turns out she never was pregnant. I felt bad for him. But I giggled myself silly at him drunk singing on the bridge. Enjoyed his scene at the end with Tripp.

Also loved more sibling interaction outside of the twins. More of that please!

I do get the feeling that the twins might be Dutch's but I think the show is doing that on purpose. They kept dropping anvils about Brian and now they are dropping anvils that it's the twins. I'm thinking they might keep dropping anvils to really keep us guessing before revealing which Darling is Dutch's. And I still keep hoping none of them are Dutch's.
TiffanyNichelle
Yeah the twins are so Dutch's aren't they? I really loved them and Brian tonight. I actually felt bad for Brian when he was trying to fight for his marriage. And little Brian Jr. doing the whole "ah...my name is not Gustave." Hee.

Jeremy singing "All By Myself" on the bridge was hilarious. I loved that Juliet went to him. And I love that Juliet is still a virgin and somehow is still so sweet and cute about boys.
Marquis
There was a really awkward cut to commercial during Jeremy's "song"

I thought he fell off the bridge! I about died, until they came back with him standing in front of his Dad fully dressed. I was sure he was dead. I agree with other's here, the relatively quick resolution to some of these big issues is a pleasant surprise. I adore everything about this show and I can't find one nitpick except maybe that I want to know NOW which kid isn't Trip's.

I died at Juliet's "Let them eat cake!" complete in Marie Antoinette wig.

I thought she did that so brilliantly - and was she implying to her friends that she has never kissed anyone either? Her scene with Jeremy on the rooftop was beautiful. I adore the twins, almost as much as my poor unloved Brian.
ImNotLeesa
Given that the Red Sox were playing tonight, I thought I’d record this episode while I watched the World Series, but instead wound up checking up on the baseball during DSM’s commercial breaks. I guess a woman still has to have her priorities, even if she’s from Boston!

This wound up being my favorite episode so far, although though it was very different then the previous ones. Some thoughts:

Brian, who I’ve come to love to hate, actually got to me this episode…Strangely, I got misty during his scene with Nick, and when he asked his wife for a second chance. And I love that he told Gustav that he did the right thing telling the truth to Brian’s wife.
And while I don't know her name, I really like Brian's wife and the glimpses of the character that we get: All we seem to know is that she's a very devout Christian and probably more than Brian will ever be.
I now kinda feel bad about how quickly we voted her out in the DSM survival game, since now I like her. Natalie, however, deserved to be taken down.
When Mrs. Brian (I also am spacing on her name, even though Brian said it several times tonight) was confronted by Gustav in the bathroom, and the way she reacted…just perfect. And the way she confronted Brian afterwards? Still perfect.
Jeremy also got to me this episode and made me tear up a couple of times…in his scenes with Natalie, with Juliet, with Nick and finally with Tripp.

Patrick and Karen's story was appropriately soapy, and drew me in, but didn't really move me.

I liked the idea that Nick, when seeing what went on with Brian losing Mrs. Brian, Jeremy losing faux-Jeremy Jr. and Natalie, and Dutch losing, well, Dutch (and Nick and Mrs. Dutch), decided to refocus on what was important to him. I like the idea that TPTB set it up that Nick’s influence helped Brian get a 2nd chance with Mrs.Brian, and helped Jeremy finally get Tripp to be proud of him. I'm really liking that they show Nick re-focusing after being around the Darlings and Simon Elder.

But... Nick and Lisa? I understand what TPTB are trying to do, trying to shorthand character development and a married relationship into a minute or two, and I like both of the characters…but their interaction seemed a little forced/contrived this episode. (Maybe I just really didn’t like the Ant Paintings…who knows)

BTW, Daisy the paralegal? Still love her! Jill Clayburgh as Tish? Always have loved the actress, but strangely I haven’t really felt her presence in this show until this episode. This week? Yeah Tish! Oh, and keep the Donald Sutherland coming.

And lastly, Blair Underwood and Peter Krause in the same scenes? Very good, and very hot! Let’s have more of those, please!

Really looking forward to next week! More than before!
Impresario
While each episode of DSM has been entertaining, this was the only one I found touching. The whole plot seemed to flow naturally. The scene between Jeremy and Tripp was brilliantly done. You can really feel the family dynamics in play. GF did exceptional work tonight, I liked the way they showed the "human" side of his not always sympathetic character.
Simon Elder was finally revealed, adding to the intrigue of the murder mystery. I was not riveted, however by Nick's wife's art attack. Nor did I particualry care about Karen and her fiancee's bachelor party. But overall, I think the show is hitting it's stride. Hopefully, it will get picked up by the ABC brass. Although I have not been following the ratings.
NatalieV
Not many kids could truly sell the "I don't want to go to hell...yeah, about that" but Brian Jr. totally did. Very well. Great Brian/Nick interaction in the office, Brian just can't quite let that hostility go.

This may have been my favorite, it seems to have been the most simple ep in a good way, the most natural. But still intriguing.
PezKat
To be completely superficial, is Jeremy getting hotter and hotter with each episode?

Um, yeah. But the singing is what clinched it for me! More, please!

For the first time I liked Brian. Poor guy, for all his bluster, he loves his wife and family. That scene in the bedroom when Brian, Jr. apologizes and Brian Sr. says it's not his fault -- awwww.

Brian, who I’ve come to love to hate, actually got to me this episode…Strangely, I got misty during his scene with Nick, and when he asked his wife for a second chance. And I love that he told Gustav that he did the right thing telling the truth to Brian’s wife.

Exactly how I felt! The actor really did a great job - the character's vulnerability has really come out the past 2 episodes & it'll be interesting to see if his harsh behavior toward others changes at all.

Another awesome episode! Also loved Juliet & the cake line, and Nick at the end w/the charity applicants - and his line about knowing that it *will* change them ending the show. *Happy sigh*
MommaJ
Hey! Where is my show??? I agree that this episode was very different from its predecessors---and I didn't like it one bit. All the outrageousness and satire was gone, replaced by sentiment and goo. I fell for the show because it was so smart, funny, fast-paced and self-consciously over-the-top; now it's suddenly turning into a conventional soap opera. Crazy-mean deceitful Brian was a hoot; sad, regretful Brian is just a bore. The conversation between Simon Elder (from Russia? Really?) and Nick was tedious. The discussion between Nick and Tripp about the trust funds meandered and made no sense. All the characters seem to have had the bite and spitfire rung out of them tonite. Hopefully this was just an off night with a different set of writers, because if Berlanti is turning the show into Brothers and Sisters Manhattan-style, I want out.
JakeyIsSusan
I'm a twin, so in my own way I relate to the Jeremy/Juliet stuff, and while I never had a $2 million birthday party, I completely understand the weird feeling of having your first solo birthday.
Bulldog
My favorite moment of the night was Brians Sr. and Jr. both sitting on the bunk beds with the exact same hangdog pose. Little touches like that make this show.
Bunny Mittens
They kept dropping anvils about Brian and now they are dropping anvils that it's the twins.

I was thinking that it was going to be the twins/one of the twins, but I wonder if one of the subtle hints is that Brian's kids are twins as well, so twins run in the family, therefore, Brian and the twins are from the same father.

Or maybe that's on the maternal side? I don't really know.

Loved this episode. The twins were sweet and Brian Jr. couldn't be any cuter.

On an entirely superficial note, I loved Juliet's outfit. And Jeremy singing in the underwear? Hot.
ImNotLeesa
After the scene early in the episode with Tripp, Tish and Nick discussing the twins birthday budget and the trust - Tripp's demeanor and comments lead me to believe it was the twins. But by the end of the episode, when Tripp told Jeremy he was proud of him...I'm moving away from that theory. Maybe back to Brian Jr., but then Tripp and Tish let Brian move back in, and the Brian choice was so anvilicious last wekk, so it might not be him...I guess I'm back to Patrick or Karen. It'll be fun to find out!
rippleintime
I don't know, no matter what, Tripp raised Jeremy as his son. Maybe it IS the twins and he finds it even more important now to see that they grasp some sort of reality in their lives of being insanely rich. Maybe he wants to see them prove that they can handle themselves and their wealth before making a decision about how much money he leaves them if they are not biologically his children. I'm not sure I can see Tripp writing them off completely, he raised them as his own and he loves them as his own, but I do think it would be a possibility that the stipulations of their inheritance could change. Note how Tish said that the trust fund was from HER grandfather, even though she had nothing to prove to Nick at that point. I'm not saying the twins, or Jeremy, are definitely the non-Tripps, I just wouldn't say that Tripp's touching pride at the end of this episode is proof that they are his children. If anything, I think Tripp would be happy to see that Jeremy doesn't need to be biologically his to have grasped some of the characteristics and values he's tried to build in him for the past 25 years and wants to make his father proud.
blixie2
"I'm sure you had to rein in the strippers and the blow." Hee.

Jeremy and Juliet are my favorite siblings on television bar none.

One minute I was getting teary at his Saturday Night Fever moment and the next I'm laughing at his karoke "All By My Self".

I can't say I loved her as much in this episode though because threatening her brother like that so Freddy could get in the club seemed a little over the top for me. I enjoy watching her be conniving and smart, just not so much toward her own brother.

I'm a huge Karen apologist, but I actually think she was justified in busting out the blackmail, in that I can't empathize with Pat about his issues if he's going to turn around and play the Darling I'm better than everyone card. I liked that the club patrons were as impressed with Freddy's fame as they were with Pat's old money.

And while I was moved at several moments Tripp saying Jeremy made him truly proud pushed me over the edge.

Glad to see them playing Brian with more down to earth moments, especially appreciated he shared those moments with Nick and Brian Jr. And I do think the twins are the red herring at this point, I still don't see where the twins being Dutch's effects Nick as much as Brian who he clearly has issues with. Hey which reminds me loved Karen's oblivious bitchy comforting of Brian Jr. "Oh, I'm sorry." Ha!
TooAddictedto
Donald Sutherland absolutely rocks EVERY scene he's in and the way he delivers his lines, ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS !!!

If he doesnt get get an Emmy when the time comes around, that board or whoever dont know shit about acting.
Scrapper
I love Karen, from the blackmail to the "O, I'm sorry" to Brian Jr. I think it was b/c Brian was his father. As she was so bright with the your the luckiest orphan and then went glum when she learned he was a Darling. As if to say I'm sorry that your part of this family AND Brian's to boot.

I liked Tripp and Tish being so sweet to the boy. The pumpkin and Swedish was cute. I didn't mind the cute stuff in this ep. Sometimes a show like this needs it. But, not all the time.

But really? Karen is marrying down? I think it's the other way around. After last week I can say that with great confidence.

I liked seeing the snobbish part of Patrick seen we've already seen him vulnerable and "normal"

I liked Nick calling Brian on the Mr. Perfect snark. Though that is the mildest thing he ever said. lol I guess that is Nick's stumbling point. He doesn't like people saying he is Perfect or anything close to that.

Simon kinda boring. Lisa soo boring. I'm glad Nick had the meeting with the playground people though. He needs to not lose himself.

O the twins were sad. I'm glad Tripp seems to be wrong and it's not too late.

I also liked learning what everyone did with their trust from Tish's father.
Brian traveled the world-Hence him seemingly understanding Mandarin and marrying Mei Ling
Karen invested. Which I can see her doing. She's smart she's just drunk ALOT.
Patrick went into real estate.
MerBear
Excellent episode. On so many levels. Most has already been covered, but I just have to add that the actress who plays Lisa always seems like she's posing for a model shoot. Even when she supposedly just woke up, her hair is perfect and she sits up like she's posing for a camera. I am not a fan.

Seth Gabel/Jeremy on the other hand...oh my...he just keeps getting better and better. I'm glad they nipped the Natalie pregnancy story in the bud and the scene with Juliet on the balcony was just lovely. I love how devoted those twins are to each other.

Tish/Jill Clayburgh looked her best tonight, even when she was in her robe. She's looked a little frail and her makeup wasn't well done in previous episodes. Great job tonight.

Brian and Brian Jr. just rocked their scenes. The actress who plays Mrs. Brian is just beautiful and she did an excellent job tonight. Very believable. Except maybe I would have been a little more freaked out if a little boy walked in and just stayed in the bathroom when I was in the tub.

Who was the guy who was supposed to be the cool guest that Juliet invited to her party as her personal gift? I didn't recognize him.

I actually loved Karen tonight. I liked very much the part when she was blackmailing Patrick and she let him know she knows about his "friend". Her dialogue was just great! And way to go, Freddy, at the club -- he held his own just fine!

I love DSM. Terrific show. My new must-see TV. And then I move to "Gossip Girl" so my Wednesdays are total escapism!
shockey80te
Hey which reminds me loved Karen's oblivious bitchy comforting of Brian Jr. "Oh, I'm sorry." Ha!

I thought she said sorry because Brian IS the boy's father... I found the line hilarious because of that.

I really like this show because it's very funny, so I can do without the Blair Underwood/"who killed my father" SL.

I love the twins because... they're twins. They're together in their own little world.

Brian reading the bible story, then saying, "Well, honesty isn't always the best policy" had me rolling.
lanter
I really like Brian's wife and the glimpses of the character that we get: All we seem to know is that she's a very devout Christian and probably more than Brian will ever be.

I love the fact that Brian’s wife is not some brainless gold digger. She seems to really love her husband and is hurt over what he did but she is not taking it out on an innocent kid. She is smart and attractive but she is not a fool and I like that the show gives the actress some characterization to work with.
And I adore that Brian told Gustav that he did the right thing telling the truth to Brian’s wife.

Neither Brian nor his wife blamed the boy for telling the truth which was good.

I thought that Brian might be the “illegitimate” but at this point I think that the show is smart enough that it can be anyone save Karen (for obvious reasons, this is ABC Disney after all). That would be just too weird even if I would give the show props for going there.

Blair Underwood just looks better and better as the years go on. I don’t know how he does it but the man is hot and as a bonus he can not only act but he easily vacillates between drama and comedy.

I love when this show tosses me off course like making Juliet a virgin or making Jeremy an actual romantic and not just some idiot playboy. Frankly I think that this season of television has really lacked in quality shows, Dirty Sexy Money is a real exception.

ETA: It's Karen and not Natalie, doh!!
ScarlettLynn
That scene of the twins... the Prince and Princess of the Darling Family... standing on the roof of their castle/highrise at sunrise was so lovely. Her in her gown and the two of them reuniting. Beautiful moment. I absolutely adore them.

Brian and Brian Jr were also great. I love Brian more and more with every line he speaks. (Which is saying a lot considering I've completely adored him since that first moment at Dutch's funeral.)
Matches
Jeeminy Christmas, there is not a man alive who could have utterred the line, "I have no intention of so doing," the way Donald Sutherland as Tripp Darling did after his wife asked if he was planning to tell Casey about the DNA results. I loved it the first time, and just got chills the second time around.

The looks Tish shot at Tripp during his "these kids are different" spiel, coupled with her asking him if he's told Nick this secret were going too far, in my opinion, if the twins aren't the ones that belong to Dutch. They were dropping hints in the previous episode about Brian, but those were storytelling hints, which while anvilicious for some, are okay in my book. Having characters act and react in ways like they did at the beginning of this episode for the sake of fooling the viewer is not advisable and poor writing. I missed the opening 3-5 minutes of the episode and thought maybe they had revealed the twins as Dutch's already, that's how obvious the scene was played to my eyes.

While I've mentioned it, could anyone give a quick lowdown on the first couple minutes; whatever led up to the scene at dinner with Brian and Brian Jr.

Am I going to miss the beginning of next week's episode, or forget to set the DVR again? I have no intention of so doing.

I have every intention of incorporating this phrase into my daily life!
kinkyprude
I love that this show doesn't go for the obvious choices, at least not usually. Story lines are introduced and resolved, or introduced and progress, and everything really makes sense.
The characters are real people. For as mean as Brian can be, he has feelings, and genuinely cares for his wife and family. Jeremy really cares for other people (LOVED him apologizing to Nick before storming out of Trip's office), and Karen and Patrick are like a real brother and sister. I can't say I've ever threatened my brother by saying I'd tell his wife about an affair with a transexual hooker (is Carmelita a hooker?), but I have threated him with telling our mother about his smoking or the crazy girls he dates, and he threatens me with telling our folks I have tattoos. That's what siblings do. They threaten each other, and are mean to each other. Karen and Patrick are just doing it on a much, much MUCH bigger scale than my brother and I. However, if something really went down with Patrick, I would bet anything that Karen would be one of his staunchest defenders. Because that's what siblings do, too.
Also, I loved Nick at the end. Yeah, it was a mite ham fisted about money corrupting, but Krause totally sold it.
Magwitch
I'm still tingling from the little smirk Mei Ling (Brian's wife) gave Patrick's wife last episode, when Brian called Patrick "Fatty Patty"; it was a quiet, smug show of support for her husband, something we see only rarely from her. And I loved the extra moments she got this week. She and Brian seem to spend a lot of time sniping at one another - two very similar personalities, I suspect - but there's something very real and companionable about their relationship.
lnmop
I died at Juliet's "Let them eat cake!" complete in Marie Antoinette wig.

The thing that tickled me most about that line was that I really doubted that Juliet was aware Marie Antoinette actually spoke those words.

I'm really loving the scenes between Jeremy and Juliet. They seem to be best friends as well as siblings. I kept waiting for Juliet to yell out "I'm here, Jeremy" when he was singing "All By Myself".

I'm also getting a strong brotherly vibe when watching Brian and Nick interact. I hope that Brian is Dutch's son.

And could anyone possibly be cuter than Gustave? (I know...Brian Jr., but he'll always be Gustave to me!)

This show rocks.
marty118
Some of the individual scenes in this episode were among my favourites of the series; pretty much all of Brian's, and Jeremy with Tripp. But I agree, as one of Sorkin's characters would say, they "forgot to bring the funny."

I think Karen's scenes with Patrick were supposed to be a lot funnier than they were, and the same for Juliet's party. (I can't believe they went to all the trouble to set up the "chocolate aristocrats" joke and then just had one quick shot of a beheading and that was it.) The "Let them eat cake" line was excellent, but I just felt that really her whole party should be in that vein, and it wasn't. Stylistically I would have liked her "Let them eat cake!" line to be followed by a visual of a guillotining of one of the chocolate aristocrats and a big cheer from the partygoers, for example. I felt there were supposed to be glimmers that Jeremy's party was on a deep level more self-aware than Juliet's, and in that sense less ironic. But they just never quite went there.

Also, I think the ants painting sequence was supposed to be funny on some level, and it just wasn't. The talking over each other bit that Lisa and Nick do has gotten tiresome, particularly since none of the other characters do it.

Last week we had the brilliant playground scene with the Reverend and the bully girl. If they can fit in one or two of those each week, the series as a whole will be considerably lifted.

Well, this was episode 5, and after this they took a brief break from filming in order to review where things stood and perhaps do a little refocusing. (This is a common practice for ABC: they did the same thing with Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy in their first year.) We should see the results starting next week with episode 6.

Oh, and I agree with everyone that I really liked how they've handled Brian's wife, Mei Ling Hwa. Like Brian, she's much more complex than appears at first glance, and I think the actress is doing a very good job. I also agree that I very much liked that both the Reverend and his wife were gentle with Brian Jr. with regards to his truth telling. I notice that although Patrick has children, he rarely seems to be with them, and neither Tish or Tripp seem to know what to do with theirs. It would be interesting if Brian turned out to be the Darling who was most connected to his kids on an everyday "normal" level.

One small legalistic note...normally Tripp would not be able to interfere with a trust that involved their grandfather's money--indeed, that's often the point, to ensure that the grandchildren get money without interference from the intervening generation. However, I am willing to fanwank that Tripp is the named trustee, and that it is left to his judgement when the children should have independent control of the funds, but no sooner than age 25. That's also not that uncommon a form in wealthy families.
alynn
This was not a good episode. The only parts I liked concerned Brian and his section of the family. Most everything else was cliched, and I found the production values cheap-looking.
Bulldog
Maybe when Tripp made his "the twins are different" comment he meant that they were the only two children that were actually his. He made a point to say that the other three kids all spent/invested their money wisely while the twins were squandering theirs. Consider his added disappointment if the three who did something he was proud of were all Dutch's. It might be a little out there, but you never know with this show.
Empress1
Blair Underwood has the best genes in the world. My God. He’s 43! (Maybe he’s tied with Vanessa Williams.)

“You know what I think I mean and that’s what matters.” Jeremy cracks me up. Brian Jr’s “Yeah . . . about that” was a close second.

I . . . hate those ant paintings. Sorry, Lisa.

I think Jeremy is my favorite. He seems to be growing the most out of the Darling kids. It will be good to see him working; he has clearly not done a lick of work in his life. He’s spoiled, but he’s not mean (like his apology to Nick – he holds Nick in high regard), which I like.

I love the fact that Brian’s wife is not some brainless gold digger. She seems to really love her husband and is hurt over what he did but she is not taking it out on an innocent kid. She is smart and attractive but she is not a fool and I like that the show gives the actress some characterization to work with.

I liked that too. She’s not just some waif who takes whatever the Darlings dish out. I liked her strength, and I thought it was totally believable that she’d want a divorce – that’s a HUGE betrayal. Especially from a man of God - not only the infidelity, but the lying for years on end.

I did think Nick's line at the end was a little ham-fisted, but Krause did a good job with it.

“Justin Timber . . . LAKE?” Brilliant. Donald Sutherland is the best thing about this show.

This show is so good on so many levels that I'm actually enjoying this more than I'm enjoying Season 2 of B&S. Although the last two episodes of B&S haven't been the greatest, I'm sure that will recover but I'm glad this is doing well as one of the other Berlanti shows.

Who would have a party on the Brooklyn Bridge? Well Jeremy Darling for one. Why? Nobody knows except him. I thought that was really stupid and costly but it makes for good TV. I knew the whole Natalie thing was going to blow up in his face I just thought it would be later rather than sooner. Hey, that's good for me and the viewers.

I'm liking the Brian/Brian Jr. storyline. I'm glad that the wife may give him another chance since I think he deserves one despite him being such an ass. Glenn Fitzgerald and Peter Krause are really dynamite in their scenes together. Probably just as good as when they acted together on Six Feet Under when Nate was arranging a funeral for this young dying Jewish man played by Fitzgerald who was suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Blair Underwood surprisingly is not that annoying and I'm liking how he's a part of the show since I didn't really think he could fit in with the whole Darlings universe.

Great episode and great show, period.

I know some people here have mentioned that Nick might be a Darling. I'm going out on a limb and introduce the real world into this. How would they know if Nick is actually a Darling? It's not as if Tripp told the OB to check out Nick's DNA also. I don't think Tish would just give up a child to Dutch for his ex-wife to raise as her own, even if it was a very short time period.

I'm thinking that Patrick, and Brian are not Tripp's. Karen is really Tripp in a female form. She's devious just like her father, and very smart. Her obvious attitude is all a sham.

I loved it, but I wouldn't want those ant pictures in my house under any circumstances.

Word.

I died at Juliet's "Let them eat cake!" complete in Marie Antoinette wig.

I hated it. It was the worst like ever stated on the show for me.

The actress who plays Mrs. Brian is just beautiful and she did an excellent job tonight.

I agree as well. I kept noticing her eye ticks when Brian Jr. was telling her the story. She does subtle great.

Yet again the Tripp Darling character steals the show. I simply can not figure out this man. He was so cold and calculating against the twins, but he warms up at the end. I don't know which side is the real him. Fantastic TV.

re: Darling kids. My theory is: Tish told Tripp that the Twins were'nt his only because he already felt like they were different. But in reality, Patrick is Dutch's son.

It totally didn't occur to me that Tish came from a substantial amount of mony as well.

ITA! IMHO, it just gets better and better.

Is it just me, or does Kiki seem to be aging at warp speed?

And as a Mum to b/g twins, the Jeremy/Juliette scenes always get me.

Brian, well I am finally jumping on that love train...

Edited, because Brian is not Patrick.

I liked everything - the two parties, the two Brians, even the two ants -- what made me bored was St. Simon the Elder. His whole schtick with Nick was so...I just knew it would end up with an offer to work for him. Whatever. I'd rather hear Jeremy sing or Brian cry.

I lurve the twins, but they need to get jobs or something, but it seems that Jeremy will be getting a job soon. Every twin I've ever known has felt incomplete without the other one. So sweet. They are my favorite Darling kids. I got the vibe that Juliet was choosing to defer her trust so she could get it the same time Jeremy does. It's not like these kids hurt for cash anyway.

I loved how the club members started fawning over Freddy. Take that Patrick! I hope Pat isn't Tripp's. He needs to be taken down a peg. The twins and Brian are spoiled and have their issues, but they are good people at heart yet Patrick and Karen maybe not so much. If Patrick left the show, I wouldn't miss him. Ditto to everyone who said they are in love with Brian's wife and Brian Jr. Those bunkbeds were precious.

That ant picture was sooo lame.

Does Nick and fam live in Manhattan in a townhouse? That would be some expensive digs. Also, do the Darlings live in a high-rise or a townhouse? They mentioned a sixth floor so I was guessing UES townhome, but the balcony scene made me wonder. Is it normal for grown children to still live with their parents like that in these filthy rich families? I would think the ones with families of their own would want some of their own space other than just Brian.

For those of you who enjoyed Michelle Krusiec tonight (Brian's wife, Mei Ling Hwa), may I enthusiastically recommend one of my favourite movies, Saving Face. She stars in this joyful, funny, gentle Chinese-American lesbian romp. Love her. Check it out.
