I have a feeling we won't be seeing the last of the beautiful Karina aka Mini Anden. My personal speculation (not based on any spoilers) (and what seems to be the consensus) is that Karina is 'Sarah's' little sister. She's ultra competitive with Sarah, which can be explained by sibling rivalry and her main goal is taking what Sarah wants, even when Sarah doesn't know she wants it.

Most likely they're very close in age, hence the hyped up competitiveness, plus I have no doubt that Sarah probably always excelled at what she did, while Karina was the troublemaker in the family. What balanced Karina out for me and makes me want to see more of her is that she was expressing genuine sympathy to Sarah over the loss of Bryce and when the chips were down, she did come through for Sarah. I also liked the added touch of Karina saving Sarah's fish.

I get more of a "former college roommate" vibe than a sister vibe. And I don't think its enough to bring the character back... but we shall see...

I would say "maybe they went to spy school together" except for the fact that, you know... most actual DEA agents aren't spies. Eh. Whatever! Perhaps this could be "fan wanked" though, since I suppose its at least possible that they both had some kind of training at some neutral training location like Quantico (home of a major Marine Corps base, as well as the well known FBI Academy).

rowanceleste your spec answers a question I had about the hug at the end. Had someone left me to die and then played hard to get with a diamond while a gun was pointed at my head I would not be so friendly with them nor would I have hugged them.

That last scene did a have little sister vibe to it. So did the, "you always telegraph your punches." Plus, Karina knew an awful lot about Sarah. It had me wondering if their was a lot of gossip floating between agencies.

Maybe the DEA pays better so she transferred from her fomer spook position with "the Company".

I don’t know. I have a hard time believing a sister would act the way Karina did. She did come through for Sarah, but that was only after Chuck guilted her in to it. And she did abandon them on the beach. Yeah, she was sure that Sarah could get herself out of both situations but I would think (and hope!) that a sister would show a little more concern, no matter how competetive. Not to mention her insensitive Bryce-related comments. I didn’t really get a feeling of underlying affection from Karina but that just could be me. And the actress playing her.

They seem more like colleagues who have had to work together several times before and have a bizarre spy-friendship.

That said, you could be right. At this stage, who knows. I just didn't get the "sister" feeling at all.

I picture Karina as the 'rebellious, running away from home type' sister, who was tired of her parents always telling her what to do and being compared to her 'perfect' older sister. I definitely don't think they shared Barbie dolls and gossiped about boys together though. I also kind of think that the intense rivalry and resentment was more on Karina's side and Sarah probably sided with their parents more on none of them understanding what made Karina tick or do the things she did, etc. I also think Karina in her sort of resentful hero-worship does think Sarah can do anything, which is why she wasn't worried about leaving her in a bad situation. If Chuck hadn't guilted her into it, I do think Karina would have at least called Sarah to make sure she was okay.

I don't get the sister vibe from them. Feels more like former partners.

I see what you’re saying, but it still doesn’t work for me. I would think a sister (especially if they were close enough to hug and have some sort of rapport, no matter how barbed) would show at least some concern to hear that her sister was being held at gunpoint by terrorists. Or would think twice about leaving her stranded on a beach. Unless Karina is a sociopath.

I agree with this. It never even occurred to me that these two could be sisters. Lack of any sort of physical resemblance aside (and physical resemblance means very little, I know), Karina was just way too cold. Maybe if the actress had played it a bit differently I could buy it. But she was so very off-hand about things. Former partners? Maybe. Spy frenemies? Yes. Sisters? I kind of doubt it.

I could see the spy frenemies as well, but given that they work for different agencies, that one seemed less likely. I suppose you can switch agencies, but you'd think there would be major trust issues there. As for leaving Sarah stranded on the beach, Karina called her right afterwards and basically told her not to be mad, etc. Sarah also wasn't the least bit surprised by the phone call, so they're either really close frenemies or they're related. If they did ever work for the same agency, I could also see 'former partners' as that would forge a close bond between the two women.

Its the little things that convince me they're sisters though...Sarah's 'you could have called', Karina saving Sarah's fish and calling her later after she screwed Sarah over for the diamond. Senor Wookie challenging Karina that she was alone against him and his employees and Sarah responding that Karina 'wasn't alone'. Even Karina's sincere sympathy about Bryce and then later telling Chuck about it and then defensively telling Sarah that she shouldn't mix work and pleasure, made it seem like they were sisters. I can also see Karina wanting/crushing on Bryce when she met him and then being disappointed/pissed off because he was actually already with Sarah, even though they were partners.

Hee. I suppose its all major fanwank right now, but needless to say, there's something between Karina and Sarah.

I immediately thought when she showed up that they were either :

A) Best Friends

B) Sisters

I was so suprised by the end to not see either one be revealed.

She looks like the Cryptkeeper, seriously.

When they were looking at the diamond and the light was focused up into her face, that’s when I first noticed. Creepy. I liked the character and the actress though and would not mind seeing her again.

In a couple of scenes, the lighting wasn't very flattering on her. She turned out much prettier than I expected, having only seen her in that "you're not much of a spy, are you?" brief clip.

She did look creepy! I think it was because she wasn't wearing lipstick.

IMDB says that the character's name is spelled "Carina."

What do you think the chances of Carina returning are?

I'm definately hoping we'll see a return.
