I've always liked Alicia Witt, so I am biased, but I think she has the best partner chemistry with Logan of any of his C.I. detectives.

I'm actually looking forward to see these two work together.

I reserve opinion on Witt until the next episode. She was too hyper & bitchy in Seed, but that could be because I'm used to the subtleness of Wheeler. Witt is very expressive - her face is alive & full of emotion. Wheeler was more dead pan. And Barek was just dead.
lynch
How many episodes did they say she was going to be around for, 5 or 6? Based on the first episode, I like her. She has a kind of uncliched spunkiness.
swtrgrl
I liked Falacci, too. She's way better than the chick from last year. The swtrset didn't like her at all.

Witt is extremely expressive...and a better actress.

Thumbs up for Falacci - I think she and Logan will play nicely off each other (they have so far). Wheeler is a bit of a bore - ok, more than a bit. I hope AW sticks around.
Janice1950
I liked her better after tonight's ep. She and Logan seemed to work really well together tonight.
I'm wondering if she'll stay, too, or if Julianne Nicholson (who I really love) will come back. I'm kinda starting to really like Falacci's "youth" (compared to Logan) and abrasiveness.
Tonight I actually forgot that Alicia Witt used to play Cybill's daughter. It's nice to see her finally playing an adult role.
Just my two cents.

ITA. Ever since I heard that tonite, I've been dying to actually get to use "Firecrotch" in a sentence.

And I like the chemistry between Logan & Falacci, too. Logan seems to have a little more "life" in him now. Like he's enjoying the role again, and not just doing it to make his mortgage payments.

I just realized that Alicia Witt gets her own opening credit while there is no mention of Julianne Nicholson. Are we sure that Falacci is just a temp substitute and not Logan's new partner? The reason I ask is because when Kathryn Erbe and Mariska Hargitay took their mat-leave, they still had their opening credits. Their substitutes, Samantha Buck and Connie Nielsen respectively, were only credited as guest stars.
lynch
Chris Noth said that Nicholson would be back in a pretty recent interview. The thing with the opening credits seems to be an editorial decision that doesn't really carry any extra meaning. Michael Imperioli replaced Jesse L. Martin a couples of years ago for four episodes, and he did appear in the opening credits.

I don't like looking at her without her original nose and her entire face looks like a gimmick.

With the format of this show, it will take at least 12 weeks for Witt's eps to air, so Wheeler won't be returning until next year. I think it makes sense to leave her out. Although if you go to the USA website for the show they don't mention her at all, so it could seem like this is permanent.

I like them both, but Wheeler more.

I'm going to be the dissenter here but I think Alicia Witt is the worst partner of any L&O, ever. She is completely unbelievable to me as an "elite" detective both as a character and as an actress.
  1. Her goth eyeliner and BLUE fingernail polish are absurd and comes off as pathetic rather than edgy
  2. She can't deliver a single line without smirking. Even with her non-verbal acting scenes, her constant smirking is a complete distraction to anys scene she's in
  3. She is a know-it-all, but not in the charming Vincet D'Onofrio way, I had a very hard time believing that she knew about Japanese bondage techniques, how to speak Greek, and recognized the designer of the earrings all in a 5-minute span
  4. She dresses wildly inappropriately for the job, but that's the Catherine Willow syndrome permeating all female detectives on tv
  5. She drinks her coffee out of a PRINCESS mug? The hell? And this was in a cafeteria where Bogosian and Noth were drinking out of paper coffee cups, are we to think she brought her own ceramic Princess mug to the cafeterai with her?
  6. I read a bio that claims Folacci has 3 small kids. She seems young to play this character as it is, when would she have had time to have 3 small kids when she's clearly engrossed in her language, cultures, and jewelry learnings AND teaching master's classes on homicide investigation on top of it
  7. She walks like a linebacker, I don't know if that is Witt or Witt's interpretation of how Folacci would walk but it makes me insane
  8. I don't understand how she got so far in the force without ever gotten smacked down for disrespecting MEs and knowing partner "protocol" like asking Logan if he had kids/wants kids

It's a shame because I am enjoying Noth more than I have in previous seasons but I wish there was a way I could crop Alica Witt out of every scene she's in.

OMG...I had to check out that backstory for Falacci on USA Networks....I hate that she is supposed to be supermom and an all around wiseenheimer TOO given her age, etc. I would have much rather her be a little more like Faith from Third Watch....a little frazzled with a mix of the smarty-pants wit IF they had to add the kids and husband.

booooooooooooooooo.

I really really really tried to like the girl, I really did I promise, but she is so bland I kept nodding off hoping that anyone else was on my TV than her. No luck, she is the worst partner to date, I hate this so much because it looks like no one cares about my favorite show on TV anymore. Why exactly does Logan have to have a female partner, he and Lennie were great together. Why not for one time on CI can't we see a couple of guy detectives work a case?
Do we have to deal with Alicia Twitt all season or is the freckled bore coming back? I can't believe I am actually looking forward to that. *sigh*
PhineasPoe
I like the character, but the fact that she looks like an adult but has the voice of a whiny teenage girl bothers me.
AnansiGirl
I find her acting choices to be very strange. It's like she never blinks and she always has this bug eyed pissed off look on her face even when it seems completely unnecessary.
DonnaJ
Exactly. There is nothing subtle about Witt's acting choices. She's over animated all of the time. Her eyes are either rolling dramatically, bugging out, or in shocked surprise. This role is too much for her acting abilities, I think.

I concur with all of this. Is she channeling Stallone the way she talks out the side of her mouth? It's like she's trying to hold in a wad of chew. Her bugged out eyes and dull inflection makes me think she wants to eat my brains instead of arrest suspects.

The only other thing I've ever seen Ms. Witt in was that D-Girl episode of The Sopranos and I hated her in that too (and not just because she was using my beloved Christopher). Bring back Julianne Nicholson. Stat.
Mary Backstayge
Terrible. Just terrible. She's terrible.

I only recently started watching the CI version of L&O, and all in reruns, so tonight's episode on NBC was the first one I'd seen with Logan and his newest partner. Egads, she was awful. It was like she was announcing all her lines, and all the gesticulating and facial expressions were so false. I don't know if it's just that everyone else in the L&O franchise just underplays or what, but I just felt like telling her to calm down and stop shouting. Even my roommate, who doesn't watch any L&O, said that her poor acting was really distracting.
hurtinfrog
I have always felt VD'O and KE were the best partner relationship on police shows. But when is the show and on what channel?
We get NBC and Bravo and USA and they all have the show. Any new shows yet? And Please, Eames get a hair trim, the long straggely look is so 60's and everyone has moved on.
DonnaJ
All new episodes of Criminal Intent will start on June 8th on USA. The network decided to produce all 12 season 7 episodes that were halted during the WGA strike.

I just found this thread. *sighs in relief that I'm not the only freaking one*

"I thought you were a hothead!"

*flat stare* STFU Falacci. Honestly, if MIKEY is talking her down and telling her to back the hell off, then she's way too wild. She'd drive Bobby off the deep end, STAT.

Julianne Nicholson as was great and much more preferable to Alicia Witt's unbearable Falacci -- I can actually take her twelve-year-old self seriously when comparing the two -- but my favorite partner of Mikey's on CI will always be Carolyn Barek. If only Annabella Sciorra hadn't left...*sniffles and sighs again*
