I'm not sure it's a love connection, but I'm seeing some sort of relationship between the "tough guy" and everyone's favorite intellectual. There have been a few hints at underlying feelings (especially, in my opinion on Sophia's part) and it's only the fifth show. Who knows what this could lead to.

My guess is not a whole lot. It's like having 36 younger siblings around and god knows I could never get anything going with just the three.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks Greg and Sophia like each other. Maybe it's bc she's close to his age, but there are actually (i think) 2 other girls that are 14. Natasha & Migle. I think they're both on the blue team. I remember seeing Natasha practically clinging on Greg alot in the first few episodes. I dont really see her at all now. But really, i can't see the connection b/t Greg & Sophia.

I found an interview where Greg said he wasn't into anyone on the cast, but found a couple of the production assistants insanely hot. I can't recall where though. I still think Sophia is really sweet on him. Poor thing; she's doomed to like bad boys forever.

I would be lying if I said that I don't think they look cute together. Because they totally do. But, to be honest, yeah, I haven't really noticed any overt signs of romantic interest on either sides. There were some cute moments, sure, but I do think those were purely platonic. I mean, what's more romantic than gutting a chicken together?
They make a great pair of friends though. I think the most interesting thing about them is that they seem to come from such different backgrounds (although, admittedly, I didn't read either of their bios so I'm just basing this off of what I've seen on the show) and have such different personalities but they also seem to work well together.
In my fantasy world, the last episode of Kid Nation would feature a chaste little peck on the lips between the two of them. That sounds wrong but at least I said "chaste," right?
Oh well. Maybe they can hook up in ten years. Or five.

If you ask me Taylor has a thing for Greg. Pretty much every town council meeting she's pushed for him getting the gold star and I seem to recall a scene with her getting sprayed (with the soda water!) by Greg and looking like she didn't mind at all.
I would say this is all one-sided but who was the first person to run to the aid of Taylor's crew when that girls poster got torn down... Greg that's who. ;)
That poster scene was halarious too btw. =)

I think the same thing. Like I was watching last week's episode and all I could think was that Taylor had a crush on Greg. I mentioned it to a coworker, who also watches the show, and after seeing this week he was like, "Yep, she definitely has a crush."
lioness51
Oct 19, 2007 @ 3:51 pm
I can see Taylor having the crush, she almost seemed to be blushing when she was describing how he's just like this great guy, big brother type or whatever and she was blushing when he was spraying her with the seltzer.
However I don't think for a second there's anything on Greg's side...she's 10 (which yeah is only a five year difference but that's a HUGE difference in teenage years. Seriously he's in high school and she's in middle school) and absolutely looks it. I don't think he sees her as anything other than this adorable, slightly exasperating but kind of cool kid.
As for him and Sophia, other than the odd moment of her getting all weepy at what was really just a silly insult; I wouldn't say there's been much evidence to suggest anything other than maybe our own sense of feeling that they WOULD go well together.
However according to a quote by Laurel herself in Seventeen Magazine, there were definitely crushes and flirtations going on that was filmed so I guess it'll be seen eventually. Of course in the same quote it sort of suggested that Greg wasn't involved in the crushes and flirtation, because he was too busy thinking the older women/producers were hot (typical 15 yr. old behaviour); or I might have just misunderstood that.
Two people I'd pay attention to specifically is Blaine and Natasha. It's understandable that no one's really seen it because she's barely been shown and he's just ever shown hanging around Greg not saying anything.
However, they're about the same age, both on the Blue Team and there's a photo on the CBS site, that showed a close up of her face buried in his neck when Greg chopped off the chicken's head and she's wearing a red jacket that looks suspiciously like his (the one I think Greg was wearing once when I was confused as to why he was wearing red since he's on the Blue Team which meant they got Blue parkas).
Also, during the whole drama with Greg and the town, she's sort of hanging around them the whole time and specifically when Blaine comes to drag Greg away, she's standing right by him and again while they're inside with Greg hurling his insults and swears at everyone through the window.
Okay so I've now spent WAY too long discussing this and I'm done...

I've made up my mind on this: I want it to be more general and not about a weird "ship" that doesn't exist contextually.
This can be a general relationship/crush/flirtation thread, but let's not get too freaky about it, please. After all, these ARE children and there are legality issues if adults are posting about them in certain ways that I'd rather not deal with.

I haven't perceived any ships developing and I'm glad the producers (so far) haven't tried to manufacture one. If a kid makes an offhand comment like, "I think so-and-so is cute," that's fine. But I don't want to see a showmance as a running subplot.

I totally agree, Ninja Bunny. IMO, showmances have a way of really screwing up reality shows (Romber, I'm looking at you). It's really refreshing for these kids to be focusing on running the town and just being kids. I think a showmance would just feel too much like reality show manipulation.

I think its bound to happen with the older kids. Their hormones are crazy, they're spending a lot of time around other kids and their parents are around. Remember they did have to sign a waiver saying that CBS wasn't responsible if any of the kids come home with an STD although I do hope nothing goes beyond an innocent closed mouth kiss.

Yeah and whether it's shown or not we do have quotes from some of the kids own mouths that there was flirtations and romances going on...supposedly quite a bit of it. I definitely think it's very possible especially with the 13-15 year old set.
I mean how many people had summer camp romances when they were growing up and really this is more or less like camp with a little less adult supervision.
For right now I'm definitely convinced of Blaine and Natasha, unfortunately other than Blaine just being around Greg and not saying much and Natasha telling Anjay he's annoying...neither one has been shown saying much.

You know, if something was going on between them, it might add a new dynamic to Michael's saying that he wouldn't run for election against Laurel, but he probably would run if he was in another district.

That last episode, Taylor looks like she might have one of those crushes on Greg too.
I never thought of Michael and Laurel, but Michael & Sophia would make a lot of sense.
The whole crushes, flirtation angle should bring out a lot of the redshirts that we still haven't seen like Migle, Blaine, and others

A whole lot of the kids are laying in the middle of the town on their backs...apparently emphasizing how bored they are and how there's nothing to do. In the first shot it's only a few kids but in the next shot there's way more and Greg is clearly seen laying on Sophia (his back on her chest sort of...it's kind of hard to explain).

LOL...but hello, how could you forget the most important person and his number one main squeeze: Blaine. Also you might add Mallory to that list to...she looked mighty comfortable on his shoulders and playing with his hair. To summarize what the IMDB poster (ie. most likely Eric) said about relationships:
--Blaine was the one most of the girls liked, he liked Natasha
--Migle liked Blaine, Natasha liked Michael
--Michael and Sophia liked each other but didn't say anything until a month or so after filming ended
--Colton had a huge crush on Taylor and also Migle
--Laurel and Zack flirted a lot, as did DK and "Jazzy" (Jasmine)
--he (Eric) liked a girl but wouldn't say who because he doesn't want her to know (personally I suspect it was Sophia)
--Greg, Blaine, Natasha and Migle called themselves "The Four"
--he (Eric) hangs out a lot with Pharaoh now
Of course you have to take it with a grain of salt, but I personally believe it was actually Eric posting.

In terms of Natasha and Blaine, the way I read what he said was that something did happen between them; that Natasha's liking Michael was a small crush that occurred early on during their time in BC but she and Blaine did get together while in BC.

I think we can all move on from the Greg/Sophia idea officially considering she totally blasted him in an interview in her hometown paper...basically calling him the meanest person she's ever met in her life. Yeah not the words of someone who's into someone.
blackrose602
Nov 10, 2007 @ 12:35 am
Unless, of course, she's speaking from an unrequited crush. Interviews have indicated that Greg was more interested in the female producers than in any of the Bonanza kids...I wonder if Sophia was interested in him and he rejected her. That would explain the episodes in which we saw them working together, maybe they were friends but she wanted something more. It would also explain her tears during the "You're the village idiot" exchange. Blasting him now would be a pretty immature but somewhat understandable reaction to being brushed off, especially if Greg was insensitive in handling it. Pure speculation on my part, but a possible theory to explain what we've seen so far.
lioness51
Nov 10, 2007 @ 1:32 pm
While I don't know about that theory, certainly possible but I err to the side of her just really not liking him as a person; I do find it surprising that Greg really wasn't interested in anyone. You'd figure at 15, he'd be the one whose hormones were the most out of control (of course that could explain the constant rage, then being nice, then rage again, etc.) but who knows it might have been a few things; maybe he had a girlfriend back home (very possible for a 15 year old...I mean if a 9 yr. old could leave because he was so homesick for his girlfriend, it's quite possible a 15 yr. old had one), if not a girlfriend, there was someone he really liked so he wasn't interested in flirting with anyone in BC or it could have been an age thing. As the oldest maybe he just wasn't interested in liking any girls that were all younger than him.
Still I was surprised to learn that he just wasn't interested in anyone. I mean even Natasha and Migle who were on his team, so he probably spent the most time with. While last week's episode showed that yeah they were annoying at times, you figure at 15 guys are more apt to overlook stuff like that once the girl's pretty and annoying or not, those two girls are really pretty. However if he had any interest in them, he sure had a funny way of showing it; since I don't think threatning them to work exactly endeared him to them. Of course the poster on IMDB said Blaine liked Natasha and he was right there with Greg trying to force them to work so who knows.

Speaking of Greg and Natasha, anyone catch them cuddling during the show down in "Viva Revolution?" I had to do double take and rewind Tivo..
ETA: Whoops. Actually Natasha, not Migle. My apologies.
lioness51
Nov 12, 2007 @ 6:42 pm
Missed that but at a few points during the talent show you can see him with his arm around one girl's chair or both and at one point Migle does seem to practically have her head on his shoulder. Of course that was about the time that Taylor was yawning and the show was winding out so most of the kids looked pretty tired.
It's quite possible there was nothing romantic between them and if the four of them did spend as much together as suggested, then I could see both girls getting comfortable enough with him to hug, put their head on his shoulder, etc. without worrying about how it looked.

You never know...if smart girls (who should know better) didn't fall for jerks, I wouldn't have had as many girlfriends as I had. But she sure got up and left just as soon as he flopped down.
Quote from an interview in Seventeen:
All the cast members mentioned that the viewers will have on-screen romances and flirtations (or as cast member Laurel called them, "showmances") to look forward to when the show premieres.
We haven't really seen any "showmances" yet...but maybe there's a little "smoochy-kootchy" coming before the last episode. Although how you work that in with cameras in your face 24/7, I'm damned if I know. (Probably the producers suggesting it via that damn "Pioneer Journal: "By now, the livestock is probably starting to look real sexy. So everyone pair off for a little desert makeout session.")

You never know...if smart girls (who should know better) didn't fall for jerks, I wouldn't have had as many girlfriends as I had. But she sure got up and left just as soon as he flopped down.
She hates him...okay hate might be a strong word but intensely dislikes and I don't think it's an "I'm pretending I hate you because I really am attracted to you." Although, as I said in Sophia's thread, after watching last week's episode I get the gut feeling that there is a very specific reason she dislikes him as much as she does and it's not just that he was a jerk at times to other kids. Her face when he and Blaine were called to the stage...she can't stand him so much, she purposely turned her face and looked off into the distance.
As for no showmance being shown that could be one of two things; that poster at IMDB did say that the kids actually were quite good after awhile at figuring ways to outsmart the camera guys and get privacy so there may have been stuff they didn't catch. That or with all the flack the show already got even before it premiered, the editors decided that the last thing people want to see is teenage kids flirting or coupling up or whatever. Of course they did air a 9 yr. old being so devastated over missing his girlfriend he needed to drown his sorrows in a drink. And there was also that drinking scene that some people had an issue with...that 13-15 yr. olds knew how to make car-bombs and were chugging like college kids.
ETA: Okay I saw Greg and Natasha in the fifth showdown...thought they looked really cute. He did have his arm wrapped tightly around her.

It does seem to be that the show is really trying not to show any crushes which I think is a good thing because they're much too young for any personal stuff like that to be shown on national televison. I personally am going to believe that Greg and Sophia have a "Han and Leia" type thing that's still going on after the taping just because it's fun to think so. It may be completely fictional but it makes the show more interesting.

Nov 15, 2007 @ 10:01 am
I found a radio interview with Michael (URL is posted under his name in the "Kids" subforum) in which he's asked about romances. He states that he "can't say"...but that we'll just have to watch the show and find out.
Keep in mind, of course, that...like most KN interviews...this one was conducted right around the time the first episode was being shown...so he had no idea what the producers would show, and what they would edit out. May be a lot of "smoochy-kootchy" going on every day, only none of it makes the final cut. (Actually kinda hope a few of these kids are a little frisky now and again...would hate to think they're all a bunch of shy little sissies.)
C'mon, boys...kiss them pretty gals! (And vice-versa...don't be writing me no "sass" letters, ladies.) Who knows...if Michael had snatched Randi up and planted one on her, she mighta stuck around.
