I thought there should be a thread for Guylan, who had finally had something to say in last week's episode and who seems like he will have an important role in episodes coming up.

He's an interesting kid! His profile is very detailed and somewhat unusual, and he seems pretty intelligent. After watching the CBS videos, we learn that his parents are animal trainers and that he's Wiccan.

BTW, the subtitle is because a lot of people thought Guylan was a girl at first, due to his long hair, but feel free to change it if anyone thinks of something better.

Well, I'll be interested to see how Guylan turns out as a leader for the Reds. I'm only concerned a little because on his "Myspace"-style page on CBS' website, he quite unabashedly fawns over Fidel Castro. Not that this will translate in any way to his conduct on the show, but still...it sounds like he has quite the interesting background.

There is no question after looking over his page that he is extremely educated. With that in mind, I am even more surprised now that he would have taken the BBQ over the dental hygiene. It would seem he'd be the first guy stressing that they need to think about their futures.

YES!!!! Guylan has been a favourite of mine since I read his profile on the CBS site, and I am SO pleased to see him get on the council. Both he and Zack seem like free-thinkers, so I can't wait to see what kind of changes they make in Bonanza City.

And I never thought he was a girl, but oh my, he is one gorgeous kid! Those eyes!

Guylan? More like Girlan, amiright people? ;)

Seriously though the 3 people I watch with didn't even notice this kid until the episode this week. We were all like "Where did this random come from?".

He's been getting the occasional TH bit, edited to reveal he's a thoughtful kid whose ideas on town issues are almost the polar opposite of Mike's. It was no surprise to me that he'd be featured in this role. It all fits with this week's theme of leadership, IMO.

From his profile, it sounds like he's simply admiring of Castro's tenacity and longevity in the face of criticism. I'm not sure Guylan understands all the political ramifications of saying he admires Fidel Castro as a world leader, but he does acknowledge that Castro's done bad things that have been neither "fair nor kind."

I actually think he and Zach are going to be really good for the Council. In this clip, Guylan talks about how excited he is that Zach was also elected, and in this one, you can see that they're both ready to shake things up.

Okay, I've been watching this show all season, but not following the forums much. Until I read the weecap of last night's show and the episode thread, I thought Guylan was a girl. At first I thought it was a typo in the weecap. I couldn't understand why they thought an eleven year old girl should have been better at digging the pit.
superkid
it was annoying that all the kids laughed at him not being able to dig a pit considering the shovel he had was 3 times the size of him.

Also the shovel was one of those ones with a flat tip not a pointy one. So it was better for scooping up loose dirt, not digging through new ground.
Bookhouse Boy
One of the best throwaway lines this week came from Guylan... "I live on a zoo." (not a metaphor... apparently he actually lives on a zoo in real life)

Just completely random and awesome.
