Karen is such a bitch. I love it. I don't even blame Lisa for being pissed, but when she shut down Karen? Lurve. I saw war in Karen's eyes. Ha.
Brian and his son? Hilarious. I am glad that little boy funny got a clue. I think Tripp knows that he is Brian's son. I definitely know the wife suspects. Can't wait for that blow up.
I hope the twins are Nick's siblings because that would just be funny. And pregnant? Poor kid.

Peter Krause got a haircut. It looks very good. I really am coming to hate the Karen/Nick/Lisa thing, and I loved Lisa cursing her out. What did Karen say right before she slammed the door?
I felt so sorry for poor Brian Jr. “You mean your mommy who’s dead?” is bound to fuck a kid up. At least, I did until he asserted himself, the “cunning little turd.” Brian’s reason for joining the ministry was very sad, though; he seems the unhappiest of the Darling kids. But he’s hilarious, threatening a bully with hell. His wife is really beautiful.
God help me, but the scene with Natalie and Jeremy warmed my cold dead heart.
Oh my God, the paternity! And I love that it isn’t campy, just very sad. I felt horrible for Tripp. But where the FUCK does Tish get off asking for nothing to change when she was fucking around on her husband for 40 years?? I loved that he put the kibosh on that – she has no leg to stand on to demand anything. I pray it isn’t Karen who was Dutch’s, because the half- brother and sister sleeping together unknowingly was already done on Law & Order: SVU (and actually well-done – the brother’s reaction was very good).
Someone said to me once that the only problems money solves are money problems, and that has always stuck with me. Comes to the forefront when I’m watching this (or when I read People).

Damn it, Show! How dare you not tell me which Darling is really a George!?
Anyway...I'm still FLOVING this show. And this week I finally liked Nick's wife after a few weeks of not having an opinion on her one way or the other.
So...Simon Elder is C? And Dutch was gathering info on both Tripp and Elder. And was meeting with Elder. So he worked for both? This could get good.
My favorite line was Karen's fiance telling her she's a bitch sometimes and her responding with "I know. It's a problem." It's like she does these things and has no control over them and then realizes how obnoxious she is. Love her.
Second favorite line was Brian smacking down the big girl bully and the little high five with "Gustav" after. Hee!

I lurve Jeremy. "Pluto is not a planet." Tehehehehe. What a space geek. But, his reactiion in the last scene with Natalie was beautiful. Thankfully, they did not go with the cliched "How did that happen" or "Is it mine?" Just a beautiful reaction. But all the banging around with the sex will have to stop now. Oooh the bruising.
Way to play the allegedly outraged hubby there. Not DS at his best. I got more "How dare you do this to Tripp Darling" than a man who loved his wife finding out how much another man meant to her.
Karen is just so pathetic. Traveling all the way to Italy just to try to get Nick's attention. Just stop okay.

Okay, I know Karen is a big, competitive bitch, but I shouted with laughter when she was all "I know! It's such a problem!" Tee hee...

Damn it, I want to know who Dutch's kid is! As for Natalie/Jeremy...is Juliet wrong, and Natalie does love her brother...or is it history repeating itself, and Natalie is passing the baby off as Jeremy's and it was that other dude's on the front of the paper?
And go, Gustav/Brian, Jr. You DO take after your father. Blackmail his ass! :-)
Aaaand we had Karen drop the bomb about Nick proposing to Karen when they were 19. While Lisa was right to be hurt and pissed, though? She annoyed me and Karen entertained me. I'm cold inside like that.
But THE best part was, again, Donald Sutherland. His Tripp confronting Letitia about which of their children is actually her lover's blew me away. Just forgo the ceremony and give DS that Emmy. He was both bastard and vulnerable wounded puppy. Pure. Awesome.
And hello, Simon Elder/Blair Underwood.

"Reading is a lifestyle." Hee! Some of the best lines in this show are the throwaways.
And Dutch first used Spy Guy "after Kenneth was assassinated".
I love shows that require me to pay attention.
ETA: I adored Tripp's reaction to Tish's "Absolutley the children are yours." It wasn't what I expected, but I understood where Tripp was coming from. And DS sold it.
For me, the laugh-out-loud moment was the little model airplane driving across the map to show that the scene had shifted to Italy. It was so random! Something out of a 30's movie.

I enjoyed this one-- A LOT! Maybe because Diane Ruggiero, a Veronica Mars alumnus co-wrote the episode. Everyone seemed to have a great plot.
You have Nick and Lisa with Karen and her fiancee traveling to Italy. Then Karen has to drop the bombshell that they were engaged. I definitely saw that coming. Lisa definitely deserved to hear it from Nick himself.
Jeremy and his girlfriend are pregnant? Oh my, this is definitely going to be something when he has to tell the folks.
Samaire shrieking at the site of Jeremy's gf was both hysterical and annoying. That was probably the comic relief of the episode.
This show is so Brothers & Sisters meets Dynasty and I'm loving every minute.

I'm pretty confident Brian is Dutch's son. He was already my pick when he gave his monologue about never fitting in. That pretty much sealed it.
Love this show. Sutherland and Clayburgh are bringing it in every scene together, and Krause is great as the show's center.
Karen amuses the hell out of me. "Oh...they don't fit?" LOL!
But favorite moment of the night had to be Brian Jr. being chased by Chora. "You better run, mama's hungry!" Brilliant.

I can't believe they teased us like that. It has to be Brian.
Tripp confronting Tish at the end was just awesome. He laid the smackdown like nobody's business. I was flinching and feeling kinda bad for Tish.
I love Jeremy and Juliet. They are just so sweet and cute together, in a sweet regular brother/sister way. I hope they can make up. And I wonder if that baby is even Jeremy's. He never asked. I would have.
I really really don't like Karen. Lisa had the second best smackdown of the night after Tripp's. If she had finished it off with a bitch slap I would have cheered. Karen's Nick obsession is no longer cute. Freddie, however, trying to take down the tension with his talk of walking on the beach with Nick was adorable. I could like you Freddie.
It took some blackmailing but I loved Brian standing up for his kid against the bully even if it was kinda mean, lol. Aw first they love too much peer and now they get beat up by girls. Awww.

Ha princess and Fatty paddy. Eh I don't really like Nick and Lisa. I just find them boring. Karen is pathetic but she looks dang good in her underwear and she knows she is a bitch ha.
Freddy isn't as bad as I first thought. "Remember Nick when we walked on the Beach? And the wind was blowing through your hair." That's something I would do if two people were having an awkward pissing contest. I can't dislike Freddy now.

Brian is my favorite character to watch (I think the twins are my favorite over all). What kind of minister threatens a kid with hell?!?! They did not teach that in the seminary I went to! I love him.
I think I get where Tish is coming from with the "Nothing can change" comment. I think she means she doesn't want the fact that one of her and Tripp's kids turns out to be not biologically his to change how he treats, or views the child. I can get that. Tripp, not George Sr. (can't remember his name) raised them all, he's their father, no matter what a paternity test might say.

This episode was so so good. It made me like all of the characters more, including the twins.
The pregnancy thing was overtelegraphed and feels too "ripped from the headlines"...but then again, maybe they will make it awesome.
As for which kid is whose, I keep changing my mind. I was assuming Brian, but now that seems too obvious. And Karen would be gross, unless nick is trip's son and Karen is dutch's. Could be Patrick, but that doesn't seem interesting enough. Leaving the twins, which could be funny.

Just how much do I love Brian? He rocks my f-ing Wednesday. I love every single second he is on my screen. So he's screwing the kid up. Oh well. Its so insanely twisted and entertaining that I want it to continue. And seriously ... who says God says you don't fight back? So. Freaking. Awesome.
Tripp ... my elder love. Can't wait to find out which one isn't his. I think we can safely eliminate Patrick and Karen. I just don't see the show going that way. That leaves Brian or one of the twins. Brian seems obvious with how much he hated Dutch and hates Nick and says he doesn't belong. But I wouldn't be disappointed if the obvious choice ends up being the right one. I think Juliet (Daddy's little girl) has the next best shot at being Dutch's, just because it would be easiest for Tripp to maintain his fatherly feelings for her. Jeremy is a long shot with his comment of Nick being the brother he never had. But he's still in the running.

I agree that all of the kids will turn out to be Tripp's. In the scene immediately following the showdown with Letitia, he seemed mighty cheerful for a man who had just discovered one (or more) of his children wasn't his.
My line of the night: "Pluto will always be a planet to me." SA does a great job of playing sweet, but ditzy. The character is a complete 180 from Anna on The OC. Does anyone know if the tattoo is the actress' or the character's? It seems kind of out of place for the character. I wonder if it belongs to the actress and they just don't bother covering it up.
Glad we got to see a little more of Lisa. She needed some fleshing out. Good to see her tempted by the allure of the Darling money. And good to see her go head to head with Karen.
Brian Jr may be my favorite character. The little actor is so good in the role and definitely his father's son.
Interesting that Brian Sr's reasons for entering the ministry didn't include words like "calling" or "service."

Oct 17, 2007 @ 10:30 pm
I'm voting for Brian as Dutch's. I'm pretty sure Patrick is older than 40... but I'm not sure. I think Patrick being Dutch's would be even more awesome than Brian because of how much pressure Tripp puts on him and his career. Would also explain why Letitia baby's him so much, but I think he may be a little too old to be Dutch's. Karen would be too out there for me, plus I think the show wants to continue the triangle between Nick, Lisa and Karen. It may be the twins, but I'm still leaning towards Brian.
As for Jeremy's pregnant girlfriend, do we have a time line for this show? How long have they even been dating/sexing? My husband thought he heard Nick say at the beginning something about three weeks ago his Dad was killed, but he can't be sure. If it hasn't been that long, I don't see how the baby could be Jeremy's, which is kinda sad, thinking back on how happy he looked hearing it. Should be interesting.

Man, this show is awesome.
Even though I am a major fan of Karen's, that smackdown by Lisa was pretty called for. I'm a little apprehensive as to where on earth the Nick/Karen storyline can even go, because so far (IMO) Nick looks completely committed to his wife and family. Even if he did have some romantic feelings for Karen, I can't imagine him ever going there because it would be way too reminiscent of Dutch/Letitia.
As for which Darling is really a George: I'm hoping for either Brian or Jeremy. Brian because it would be so hilarious and screwed up, and Jeremy because I actually think Nick, once he got over the shock, would be a good role model for him. Karen would just be too out there and I'm pretty sure Patrick's too old, although Juliet is a possibility.
I keep getting more and more intrigued by the psuedo-father/son relationship between Nick and Tripp. PK and DS are awesome together.
And man, I can't wait to see more of Simon Elder. Has Blair Underwood been made a series regular? If so, that would be fantastic.

This was my favorite episode so far. While the others have been good, and had some great scenes, this one really worked altogether for me. Why-oh-why don't I have a Nielsen box? I hope somebody in this forum does (many, many people).
The twins falling out was funny and emotional - they had done a really good job setting up their bond in previous episodes, so their fight had impact. Sweet and sad the way Jeremy's scene with Natalie gazing at the stars mirrored his scene with Juliet in an earlier episode. (Any other
SN fans see a reference in the 'Jeremy and Natalie' coupling and "Pluto is not a planet" line?)
Brian's one smart cookie (even if he is a sick, sick man). His revelation at dinner about not fitting in really got to me, and I loved how he snapped at Patrick's wife for starting the conversation.
Karen's chasing Nick & Lisa to Italy, plus bringing up Nick's proposal was outrageous - and I think she meant it to be. (It was also totally disrespectful of Freddy, but what else is new) I enjoyed Lisa's smackdown of Karen, but I absolutely got goosebumps from Karen's reaction after Lisa walked away. Freddy: "Who was that?" Lisa (coldly): "Nobody"
I think Karen is about to give her brother Brian a run for his money in a Darling Family over-the-top inappropriate mean behavior competition.
Freddie, however, trying to take down the tension with his talk of walking on the beach with Nick was adorable. I could like you Freddie.
I agree. I could almost come to like the gold-digging pro-golfer if he keeps this up.
As far as who's a George and not a Darling, my money's on the twins, especially Juliet for some reason. (Though I'd like it to be Karen, since that would stop her Nick-obsession dead in it's tracks...well, at least I'd hope it would...afterall, this isn't a pay cable show)

Can we post this clearly somewhere that Brian is an Episcopal Priest and can be married? So we don't have to answer it every week.
Yes. Brian is an Episcopal priest. I was raised in an Episcopal church, wherein the priests wore the collar and were called Father, and most of them were married with families. One priest met and married a widowed member of the congregation with a gang of kids - I don't remember how many, but it was a lot. Episcopal churches can also have female priests - we had a few of those, and a woman I used to work for left her gig to go to seminary and now heads up an Episcopal church.
I think Nick has a fondness for Karen (she clearly meant a lot to him when they were kids), and maybe feels sorry for her now. I do not think he's in love with her, nor do I think he has any intention of leaving his wife (I got the sense that he was kissing Lisa's shoulder in front of Karen partly to be affectionate and partly to prove a point), especially in light of what he knows about Tish and Dutch. Karen has her funny moments, but she just looks pitiful chasing after Nick, and I don't find it entertaining. Does Lisa know about the affair? Also, if I may be shallow, I think Lisa is prettier. Karen/Natalie Zea has the kind of face where when it goes, it is GONE.
(It was also totally disrespectful of Freddy, but what else is new)
Yeah, for someone who complains about how men don't love her for who she is, she has no respect for them, either, cheating with the caddy and blatantly being in love with Nick in front of her fiance. I know why Freddy is with her (money), but why is she with him?

The twins' storyline took up maybe a little too much time this week, but they're both displaying more hints of heart and intelligence than I anticipated.
ITA - I like how they're more than tabloid pictures although they enjoy playing that game. Juliet's reading French poetry? Jeremy contemplating the stars? Sweet! Because they're both their parents' favorites, I think they're Dutch's kids.
I'd like to believe they're all Tripp's, but Tish said "So you know?" when Tripp tossed the envelope on the table. Seems pretty guilty right there.
Some of you are teasing about Juliet and Jeremy having different fathers, right? Coz they're twins. As madcap as the show is, they can't really pull an Arrested Development on us...I mean Tripp would notice if they didn't come out at the same time. But who knows on this wild and awesome show.
But most of all, I suddenly LOVE Brian. His facial expressions make my night. I have to rewind every scene he's in. He's still a bastard, but a magnificent one. Loved his sidelong glance at the 'vigourous peppering', his immediate aggressive reaction to everything, his struggle to not grin after "you cunning little turd!". LOVE him and Brian Jr. His wife definitely seems like a tightass though, I get why he doesn't want to tell her.
Karen is annoying, but I can dig the storyline. I actually do like Lisa (and for the record, wow - she has a great figure!). I just don't get why she doesn't call out Nick on turning into a clone of his dad and still whining about how neglected he feels. What about little lost Kiki for pete's sakes?!

I know it sounds crazy, but its totally possible. Obviously identical twins can't have different fathers, but because fraternal twins come from seperate eggs, it can and has happened. A quick google search of "fraternal twins" and "different fathers" (or some variation) should pop up some cases of it. There's even a scientific name ... heteropaternal superfecundation. If Tish slept with both Dutch and Tripp within (I believe) a few days of each other, the twins could have different daddys.

Duchess You're teasing about Juliet and Jeremy having different fathers, right? Coz they're twins.
It's entirely possible for fraternal twins to have separate fathers as they come from two separate fertilization events. There's a medical term for it, though it escapes me at the moment.
I agree that this was the best episode yet. I'm really loving Nick and Lisa's relationship. It's nice to see a married couple who actually have a solid mutually supportive relationship instead of the schlubby man child/overworked harpy dynamic we get so often on television. They have their moments of friction, but there's a sense of shared world-view between them that makes them very believable. When he told her she grounds him, it could have been this total cheese-ball moment, but they really sold it. Both actors really impressed me this episode.
And, to join the shallow pool, Lisa really is hot. I think Natalie Zea is a stunning woman, but next to Lisa there's no comparison.
The twins are surprisingly delightful. They're both obviously spoiled and a little useless, but they both have a generosity to them that is very endearing. I thought I was going to hate Juliet in the pilot, but now I really like her. Sadly, I think she's probably right about Natalie, and that's going to break poor Jeremy's heart.

Oh my - I had no idea. Thanks for the info, bizarre! Well, now my money is on one of them being Dutch's. Probably Juliet, because that would hurt Tripp the most. Although I'm still not sure how Tish would know unless she got the test without telling anyone.

I could see Dutch's son as Jeremy and when Natalie learns he doesn't have any money, she'll dump him and reveal that the baby isn't his. We all know it will eventually come out by Tripp & Tish somehow. Although I think it would be nice to explore that relationship and how it would work out once Juliet finds out her ex-BFF is pregnant with her possible niece/nephew. It could be good.
Patrick would be an interesting choice just because he seemed to really respect and like Dutch and had a good relationship with him where Dutch would tell him to just be himself.
I just don't see Karen or Juliet fitting the part at all. That would leave Brian and I think that is too much of an obvious choice, so it can't be right. I also don't see how Nick could possibly be a Darling, unless he belonged to the brother, Kenneth or an as of yet unmentioned sister. You would think the world would notice if Tish were pregnant and missing a child.
Just a thought....Did Nick say that he and Karen were both 19 when he proposed? I wonder about their birthdates. That would be beyond ridiculous though since it seems that everyone knows they dated. (Or is that not common knowledge to Tish?). I've lost track of some of the secrets and not-secrets and not-so-secret-Secrets. Just as they've planned.

It would be a copout, I think, for there to be a Darling that ISN'T actually a George. Plus, I rewatched the scene, and there's really not a lot of wiggle room. My guess is probably Brian (since he has the illigetimate child now and also always hated Nick), but it'd be a kick for it to be one or both of the twins.
I love the twins. I love shirtless Jeremy. Also, I really liked his reaction to the pregnancy - for some reason, I feel like Jeremy would just be so happy to have a kid, he wouldn't even question its paternity. An interesting justaposition to his father and brother.
Brian continues to rock my world. His reason for going into the service was incredibly sad and then he just flipped it right back around to being snide and assy. God bless Brian, as He does not bless Chora.
I thought it was interesting that Lisa assumed that Karen said no to Nick's proposal. Do we have any evidence that she turned him down? I assumed they'd dated for a while and then broke up.

I agree, but I'd add Peter Krause to that as well. I watch soaps, he doesn't feel soapy to me. As many have said before me, he has a grounding presence. But yeah, Donald and Jill have such a soapy storyline, and its so cleche, but they (as well as the writers) make it feel fresh and legitiment. Natalie Zea is a suprise to me. The Nick/Karen saga could even get more interesting if there is a child involved. It seemed a little off that Lisa mentioned that Karen should just back off because she & Nick were married and that they have a daughter. I don't remember how old Karen is supposed to be, but it is possible that she had a child while kept away from the public eye and someone else it raising it. Maybe that's why she's so bitter about love and life....and still attached to Nick. He, of course, doesn't know about it and that is why he's oblivious. Dutch was the teller of the bad news that Karen just couldn't date him anymore and he returned from Italy none the wiser.....

I thought it was interesting that Lisa assumed that Karen said no to Nick's proposal. Do we have any evidence that she turned him down? I assumed they'd dated for a while and then broke up.

I bet she said yes too and I want to know how the whole thing played out. I couldn't love Karen more. Such a bitch and I love every second. Nick's wife is so annoying. When ever she talks all I can think is, "SHUT.UP.LADY!"
I can't decide who the illegitimate child is. My guess would be Karen. But I like
FleeceBalnket's thought too:
My unspoiled guess? They're all Tripp's children. INCLUDING NICK. Y'all heard it here first!
