TWoP Barnes
(TiVo says:) Marin gets lost in the woods when she goes in search of stew ingredients to win a bet; Lynn wishes Jack would treat her more like Ben and Buzz treat their wives; Sara learns that her husband is seeking full custody of their son.

Barnes is pretty sure that Lynn is the one carrying someone else's child, and so thinks Lynn ought to get over herself just a little bit.
American Snob
I liked this episode which was much, much, much better than the premiere. Damn those filler episodes! Ha. I'm just so glad Special Guest Star Justine Bateman is going away forever and that Jack finally came to his senses.

It's really sweet how Celia perjured herself on Sara's behalf. Let's just hope this doesn't come back to haunt her if Currie ever tries anything. I'm glad Sara is not all stuck up and let her ex have her son part-time since a father deserves to see his kid, too.

I've discussed this with some friends and we don't think that Marin & Cash are gonna last but I'll eat my words if they do. They're cute together but c'mon Jack and Marin...it's got to be on. They are really the Meredith & Derek of Alaska but with better writing.

All in all a good episode -- let's just hope the ratings are just as good.

Yay! The horror that was Lynn is on a bus outta Elmo!!! Yay!

O'Bachelorton is kinda lame. I know some creative TWoP posters could come up with awesome combos of all three names (and could probably fit in Hizbut somewhere...). Unfortunately, I'm not amongst that number.

Really enjoyed this episode. Glad that Celia has a "love" and that Cash was without his shirt.

Looking forward to the de-wussification of Jack now that the heinous Lynn is gone.
Bulldog
Finally, Lynn is gone! Don't let the door hit you.

I really love Celia and Richard. Currie Graham should be made a regular pronto. I wonder if they will keep up the eye thing when Celia tells a lie.

Marin claims to be a good cook, but didn't she ruin her Thanksgiving dinner last year?

Who knew Elmo was big enough to have an apparently well stocked book store (or was that a library -- either one would be surprising)?

The one character that does kind of bug me is Patrick. He's just too much of a simpleton for my taste. And the name thing was stupid. Although I bet Mai will be mad her name wasn't incorporated someway. (Where was she, by the way?)

Where is Jane? And Plow Guy?

Can't wait to see where the thing with Sara and the minister goes.
orchidea

It wasn't entirely her fault IIRC.

Who knew Elmo was big enough to have an apparently well stocked book store (or was that a library -- either one would be surprising)?

The library was featured in the show's premiere. ;)

I'll join the chorus of "DING!DONG! The bitch is gone!"
MerBear
First of all, thank God Lynn is gone. I am beyond thrilled. Justine Bateman has not aged well. She had about as much ooomph to her personality as a wet rag. As a result, Lynn was not only annoying because she got in Jack and Marin's way, but Lynn was a D-R-A-G.

I missed a few minutes -- what exactly did Celia say on the stand? I came back in just as the judge was ruling for Sarah.

I love this show.
Turik Karadin
Oh thank all gods, Lynn and her bastard spawn have left the building...and the town...and hopefully the state. Huzzah!

I wasn't surprised that Celia lied on the stand. Though I guess she could always defend it by saying that it was only hearsay that Sarah was in the "hospitality" business and Celia personally never saw money exchanged for favors and if she did, she just thought it was hospitality for real and Sarah was a party planner or something...hence no perjurious testimony.

The otter porn was so cute...and so obviously clipped from a nature documentary.

Edited because "perjurious" is not "pejurious"...
crystalsage
Loved "Otters Gone Wild." Jack and Marin are so hot together. Liked the Chieftan guys in court refusing to testify against Sara. Hee. And I cheered when I saw Lynn on the bus to oblivion. Please don't come back to screw everything up again, you selfish slut.

Liking shirtless Cash, though. Too bad he couldn't hook up with someone other than Marin and stick around. I think Celia should put out an APB for Plowman.
KBear
A book on Alaska native plants: $25
Fee for getting a name change in Alaska: $150
Watching Lynn leaving town on a bus hopefully to never return again: PRICELESS!!
Luvs2Cook
I loved this episode! Much better than the premiere. So glad Lynn is gone too. I thought the name change thing was lame.

I don't like Cash & Marin together. Yeah, he looks good without his shirt on but he just seems too "dirty" for her. It will be interesting to see how it goes now with Jack & Marin. I don't expect it to be smooth. That would be kinda boring.

I hope they bring back Jane & Plowman.
MsLark
O'Bachelorton is kinda lame. I know some creative TWoP posters could come up with awesome combos of all three names (and could probably fit in Hizbut somewhere...).

O'Wash-hiz-bachelor-but? Heh. Cuz I think I'm soooo funny! I love Patrick, he's such a sweetheart, but Annie is a caution. She creeps me out and I can't really see it working, but who knows?

This was better than last week by a long shot. I'm still not all about the Marin/Jack (hard to get past real life squickiness), but losing Lynn went a long way. That whole scenario was just wrong in so many ways and I'm glad they woke up before it was too late.
hypertwink
I understand Patrick's need to honor his family but seriously? He's usually adorable but no, not this time. Anyway, thank God that woman's gone. That was ill-concieved all the way around -- and for me, Lynn snatched a lot of the attraction I felt for jack/James Tupper...oh no, wait! That was the writing that emasculated him. I think the greatest guy in Elmo is Sam, and he's not here to alleviate my need for his buzzed-cut, rosy-cheeked earnestness and simplicity.
MerBear
I'm also getting a kick out of the guy who's always sitting at the bar. Can't think of his name. He is much more articulate and observant than one would think and I love how the writers use him to make little quips or comments at just the right time.
peaceb2u

I love him. He is like a Greek chorus, only better. I loved "Brokeback Marin."

Liking shirtless Cash, though.

Even if his character has to die or disappear, perhaps he could be bronzed and kept around Elmo, as Elmo's answer to Michelangelo's David. Just a thought.

There are all these bus references in this thread re. Lynn. Did I pass out from relief? The last thing I saw was Jack getting his tatoo removed. I am thrilled that this un-romance is over. I thought we would have to endure this agony much longer.
NoNeinNyet

A very good thought. Such a hot dirty woodsman.

I'm really liking this show and talking with other fellow TWoPers about it.

And the last name O'Bachelorton is awful! I would've never thought of that and I think he could've picked something better than that.

In response to the guy at the bar, are you guys talking about Jerome? I also like how the writers use him as a background character but with lines.

I get tired of Marin being a bimbo and needing to be shown up and/or rescued and/or taught by the men in every episode.
CherSolly
I get tired of Marin being a bimbo and needing to be shown up and/or rescued and/or taught by the men in every episode.

Me too. I understand that Marin is "new" and all, but come on! Can she go an episode or two without needing to be rescued?

O'Bachelorton. Ew. Lots of anvils dropped in regards to the upcoming Patrick/memory loss - forgetmenots, "I don't know who I am.".

It's about time Justine Bateman left town. May she never, ever come back.
raygirl
I didn't catch Jack getting his tattoo removed-- watched it online. Was that in a preview or on the show?
mandigirl
Really enjoyable episode! Yeah! It seems a lot of people are glad to see Lynn go, but I didn't really dislike Lynn at all and I can't say I'm necessarily glad that she's gone. I felt sorry for her and wondered when she was going to put herself out of her misery. So on to better things for both characters.

Random thoughts-- Loved the whole otter thing. Also, Cash is looking mighty fine this season. I don't remember him looking so good when he was first introduced, but I'm not complaining! I also thought it was cute how the Chieftan guys wouldn't testify.

Was Sara's love interest always that actor from Kyle XY? Love that actor, but I don't remember him from before.

I have to say I was also very distracted by the fact that Sara's ex was Leoben from Battlestar. He's a great actor, and actually very attractive, but it was so distracting for me. I might have been the only one.

In any case, wonderful wonderful episode. Can't wait for next week! Raygirl I think the tattoo removal was in the preview. It certainly wasn't in the episode.
suzysite

Yep, that's Nick Lea (also the real-life significant other of the actress who plays Sara). He's been playing the pastor here, too.
I still think of him as Krycek, though.

Bye-bye to Justine and her eyebrows. I swear I heard nothing she said - the eyebrows distracted me too much.
brainwrinkles
I didn't get the whole basis of the lawsuit against Sara. Okay, he got married, that's a change "since last custody hearing", but she is no longer a hooker, that's in the past. I thought they'd go for "look how her life has changed for the better", not deny it ever happened. More effective to deny, but risky. After all, Sara and her lawyer didn't know Celia would lie, or that none of the men would come forward.

I am glad Lynn's gone, but I don't want to see Marin with Jack. There, I said it. I would rather see her be friends with Cash than lovers, too.

All in all I liked the episode, but missed Mai, oddly. Liking Celia more and more.
possibilities
We don't really know what Sara's strategy was, though, because the case got dismissed as soon as Celia denied knowledge and the other witnesses failed to appear.
NoNeinNyet
I think it's odd that Sara had no idea that Celia had been summoned. Her lawyer would have to have known that she was subpoenaed, I would think. Television should stay away from court cases whenever possible.
mandigirl
possibilities you're very right. My assumption is that their defense strategy would have looked like something along the lines of what brainwrinkles was saying. Still, it was a little disconcerting that Sara was surprised that Celia had been called to testify. That's kind of need to know information.
I also have to agree that I kind of like where Marin is right now romantically. I like Marin sans-Jack and flirting with cute Cash. They have a great relationship and I hope that if they don't make Cash fight for her romantically, they at least make him try to protect her. He seems like one of the few people that have Marin's back in that area and doesn't see Jack as this dream boat, but as this guy who hurt Marin terribly and will do so again. Marin sees that too hopefully. After Jack dumped her for his ex, I hope she's not just going to go back to him so easily. The writers have typically written Marin very strong, so I think she'll have him stew for a bit.

I also have a feeling the whole Lynn and baby thing isn't going to go away that easily.

Thanks for the insights suzysite! The actress that plays Sara is mighty lucky. That's all I have to say...
suzysite
O'Wash-hiz-bachelor-but? Heh. Cuz I think I'm soooo funny!

That's ok...I think it's pretty funny, too. I wasn't clever enough to come up with a good name combo like that.
Suzie H
I'm glad Jack finally came to his senses. I understand his wanting to take care of Lynn because she's like family, but the whole marriage thing was ridiculous. I was really rolling my eyes over Lynn's cluelessness - her whole "what happened to us?" and "why don't you love me?" deal when - HELLO - she LEFT him, went off and got pregnant, and now can't figure out why his feelings for her might have changed. And I thank the writers for having Jack wake up now instead of right before he's supposed to walk down the aisle during sweeps or something.

I never thought I'd say this, but I honestly don't know who I'd pick for Marin. I always figured it was Jack and only Jack, but Cash is actually turning out to be mighty fine. I do sense a chemistry there. Plus with the possibility of Cash being sick or a doctor or something, it looks like he might have some depth beyond that pretty-boy facade. What a choice to have to make. Oh, what I would give to be Marin Frist!

I'm sorry, but I don't know who annoys me more, Patrick or Annie. For some reason they really grate on me this season. The O'Bachlerton thing is just silly, and Annie's voice is starting to be like nails on a chalkboard.

And surprise - my favorite couple right now is Chief Celia and Richard. I think those two are really cute together. I loved her "tell" when she lies, her looking up to the right. I was laughing pretty hard at the end during the whole confession/denial of love scene.

Whatever happens next, I'm just so glad it's back.
LisaM

Word. Patrick is such a simpleton that he annoys me but Annie is even worse. The way she acted during the cyclone last week was the last straw. She needs to go back to NY.

I was really pleased that Sara's case had such a good overall result. I hope that her relationship with the pastor continues. Aren't they both taking the EMT class? I thought it was interesting that Theresa showed up in court to support Sara since they haven't been friends because of Ben. Speaking of Ben, why wasn't he there?
smarty marty
The court case was so ridiculous, I had to fast-forward through much of it. I felt the writers wanted us to feel sorry for "the hooker with a heart of gold." But seriously? Someone whose only idea for a job is prostitution, telling her son she did what? She was an unfit mother. As for Celia testifying, yes, Sara's attorney would have known that and asked Sara "what's with the sheriff testifying? Oh, you were a prostitute with full custody of your kid? Okay, we're not going to trial, we'll settle."

As much as I hated Jack and Lynn getting back together last season, it kind of made sense for me finally when they broke up. Despite Lynn's actions in dumping Jack and getting pregnant... these two had been together since forever. Many relationships like that just keep going because they always were. I think that's why both of them fell back into the marriage idea. I've known many people who have dated someone for 4-5 years, only to break up and meet someone else and marry them 4 months later. There's a lack of inertia to break up. Don't get me wrong, I was totally yelling at the TV "you got pregnant! you broke his heart! and why, Jack, do you think you should take responsibility?!!!" Good riddance.

On the Patrick-Annie annoyance train. Last season they were so adorable, maybe because they were so new at relationships. They're engaged now---they should be a bit more mature now. I guess I'm in the minority liking the name combination thing. Always hated taking the husband's name just because that's the way it's always been done.
Phred62
Well I missed last week's premiere so I was determined to see this week's episode and I'm glad I did. I have really missed this show. Add me to the SO-GLAD-LYNN-IS-GONE-AT-LAST!!!- camp. I definitely want Marin and Jack back together but I don't want it to be instantly. He has to earn it. Cash is drop-dead gorgeous but I don't want to see him be anything more than friends with Marin.

I was somewhat irritated with the whole Celia looking up to the right whenever she tells a lie thing. It was just badly done. Instead of a quick guilty glance it was more of a "Oh look! I see a bird up in a tree!" 5 second look. It annoyed me.
marieelise0928
I also missed the tattoo removal, but loooooooved seeing Lynn's bus-outta-town scene! Jack and Marrin really are just good together... Cash could disappear tomorrow. I'd trade him ten times over for Plowguy to come back!! I know he's good looking but, eh, not my type.

I love Celia. I think it goes back to Dead Like Me, but I love her nonetheless. Ditto with Krycek the pastor.

Annie and Patrick are dumb, but they don't bother me. I think it's sort of fascinating how some people in the show are SOOOOOOOO bizarrely unreal, and other ones veer towards sort of normal (or in Jack's case, even better than real).

This really is a feel good show. Marrin's voiceovers at the end always get me. All I remember is her saying this episode "Sometimes you get more than you hoped for..." in this episode, and I went all fuzzy in my heart. She's WAY better at the voiceovers then Meredith over at Grey's!
suzysite

Exactly. It should have been a quick flash of a look - and even then it should have been done either just before, or during the lie - and not as Tell Lie.....pause.....long look to the northeast.
NoNeinNyet
No weecap for this one yet? I hope they let them get through the episodes that aired in New Zealand before deciding to pull it from the site. Quite a few people have watched those episodes ahead of time and therefore wouldn't rush to discuss the episode months later.
SugarTurbinado
I just always felt . . . I don't know, bad for Jack getting his broken heart all re-stung by Lynn, not that I blamed her, necessarily, but I didn't like seeing him suffer, to the point where I was reading recaps instead of watching the show. I give her props for leaving a town that means a lot to her, too, just to make the break clean.
thecleave
Hi everyone!! This was my favorite new show from last year and I'm glad to see so many of you talking about it.

Just to clarify, the preview for this week's episode showed Jack getting his tattoo removed.

I too was very happy to see Lynn and her eyebrows on the bus out of town.

My question is, were the first 2 episodes of this season ones that were supposed to be shown last season? Remember, it just sort of disappeared in April or May.
excaliber21
What's wrong with "Patrick Bachelor Washington"?

Glad as I was to see Lynn vamoose, the only thing I could think of was "Will Marin be able to get her money back for that baby carriage?"

I thought Celia was purposely shifting her eyes to the right to confess her love for him.

Cash is just about the best eyecandy that any show has this season. Even though he and Marin are obviously not going to hook up, he needs to stay around as a shirtless handyman.

I totally agree that Marin needs to be less klutzy/clueless about things. The last thing we need is another Susan from "Desperate Housewives."

Sorry, Sweetie, but wild garlic is not enough to make your stew a winner. But throw in enough of that red wine you're always swilling and you might have something.
Shambola
As for Celia testifying, yes, Sara's attorney would have known that and asked Sara "what's with the sheriff testifying? Oh, you were a prostitute with full custody of your kid? Okay, we're not going to trial, we'll settle."

I am with you on the trial suckage, but technically, it's not even a trial. If the parents were to get in a custody dispute, they would've been automatically booted to mediation, before the hearing. There, they would have a chance to do the whole song and dance, saving the court costs, subpoenaed witnesses, etc. Only after mediation (or if the other party is a no-show, unlikely here), they would go to a family court hearing, which is not a trial and far less formal. Besides, it doesn't make any sense that he would sue for full custody and not just visitation rights. Courts generally are a lot more willing to grant visitation than review custody arrangements. Oh, and she gave her kid away to a Cylon. Tsk, tsk!

I will join the cheerleading squad seeing Lynn out of town; my only complaint is that this relationships seems to have ended in a single episode. Sure, Jack and Marin had short little "talks" here and there, but there was nothing between him and Lynn before the otter porn incident that would indicate cooling off. The whole thing seems out of character for both Lynn and Jack, and reeks of writers heavy-handedly forcing the characters to do their bidding.

More shirtless Jack, please. And the plow guy. And Jane. In any quantities. Also, more Richard, he is the only thing that makes up for a stupid eye roll thing that was also invented overnight with Celia. Love the Greek chorus guy. Patrick and Annie are starting to seriously grate, more Annie than Patrick.

Why isn't the recaplet up yet?
StewartTeddy
I agree with the whole Patrick/Annie angle, they really need to grow them up a bit, the cute is wearing off rapidly.
schmier guy
Why isn't the recaplet up yet?

No more coverage it appears, that's why it's here under Dramas.
tribema
I really enjoyed this episode. I find Sarah a little dull, but the court case was quite affecting once they got into it.

excaliber21, yeah, I also thought Celia was purposely doing the eye shift at the end because she wanted Currie Graham (I forget the character's name but yeah, please keep him around; they are gold together) to know how she felt about him, as well as taking the heat off herself because of the perjury. At least, I hope it was because it was too overt.

Marin was okay in this episode but it was mainly a placeholder. I enjoy Anne Heche a lot as an actress and now Lynn is gone (thank goodness) I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

marieelise0928, I agree - the endings with the music and the VO really do have that sense of uplift. Grey's Anatomy had that mood in its first season and Brothers & Sisters did before it took itself so seriously, but now I rely on MiT for my zone-out dramedy comfort show needs. I have my doubts that it will extend beyond a second season so I'm just going to enjoy it while I can.
fofer
Why wasn't there an announcement about MiT's change in coverage status? Or was there and I missed it?
TWoP Mars
fofer, There's a pinned announcement at the top of the old General Gabbery forum. But those announcements usually don't come in advance, unless a show is being canceled.

She was an unfit mother. As for Celia testifying, yes, Sara's attorney would have known that and asked Sara "what's with the sheriff testifying? Oh, you were a prostitute with full custody of your kid? Okay, we're not going to trial, we'll settle."

I don't agree that Sara was automatically an unfit mother because she was a prostitute, especially since she isn't anymore. And a judge would look at a number of factors before deciding that as well. For one thing, the father seeking custodial rights completely abandoned his kid for years, including not paying child support to help the mother out. I don't think that would have been an automatic decision at all. Not to mention, as Shambola said above, it wouldn't have happened that way anyway.

But Lynn's gone, so I'm all good. Bad choice all around--not a good actor playing Lynn, not attractive enough to be in Jack's league, stupid backstory. Adios.

Though they'll probably have to do something else to keep Jack and Marin apart, since the tension is a big part of what makes it interesting. I'm not so sure watching two people who are a RL couple be in a happy relationship every week will exactly be scintillating.

I didn't mind Patrick this week. The name change thing was okay with me, especially since he did incorporate a little of Annie's name. But yeah, they were cuter when they were new.

Me too. I suppose the timing by the networks (it took them forever to bring it back) probably didn't help.

Well that sucks! First we have to wait since April for any new episodes. Then ABC moves it back to Friday night. Now TWoP decides to dump it, and for what reason? Yes, the discussion board is slow but maybe you should give it a chance. The show just returned two weeks ago after an almost seven month break!

Oh well! Bye, bye TWoP, there is nothing left here for me.
StewartTeddy
ABC is moving the timeslot again, Starting Nov 2nd it moves to 8pm. I can't believe how they mess with this show! I am just hoping against hope it makes it to the end of the season, and we get some DVD's out of this, because clearly ABC has no respect for this show.
