The CSI team investigates the murder of an entire family, except for one daughter who supposedly is possessed by the devil.

ETA: Oops wrong season number, honest mistake, and I was trying to be careful.
AimingforYoko
The team investigates the killing of an entire family except for one daughter, who claims to be possessed by the devil.

Didn't see Michael pitching her off the balcony, but I kinda saw the girl-as-murderer coming. Haven't they had the demon seed kid before? Nice symmetry with the bee at the end. I really liked them using Vegas as kind of a supporting character in this one: the heat, the rolling blackouts and Nick noting the water ban.

By far the most disturbing scene for me was when Grissom stuck his head into that bee-filled hole in the attic wall. I almost had to turn off the TV.

Love Sara's new assistant though -- "I'm limiting you to twenty questions." "Really?" "Nineteen." Hee!
RandomWatcher
I was not expecting that ending.

Hopefully next week Sara says no as I don't want to see any of the team married to each other.
fifty8th
Well the preview for next week was gag worthy and I like Sara and am not turned off by GSR.

Anyway I'm not sure about this bee thing.
bookworm8571
Creepy episode. The demon child convinced me she had a demon in her.

Looks like they're headed for PTSD with Sara. She's angry, short with the newbie, bordering on losing it with the cop and Grissom's oblivious because he's about to get pulled into a new bee obsession. I could definitely see her being pushed over the edge by a tough case or the death of that Ronnie, if they happen to kill her off (speculation. I don't actually know one way or the other.) As for the promo, I'd love to see them get married, but I don't think it's going to happen when it sounds like Jorja Fox is probably on her way out. More likely that she'll have a breakdown and leave Vegas altogether or they'll get married and they'll kill her off anyway. After all, they can't possibly give us a happy ending, can they?

Looks like this thread wins, hopefully the mods will fix the season.

I think my ears blew out from the squeeing at the preview.

The promo was gag-worthy, but the actual scene wasn't. It was all of that, "WHAT WILL SHE SAY?!?!?!?" crap that I rolled my eyes at.

Sorry I don't think I'll be making any new threads from now on too much trouble. I was thinking of another show when I did the season part.

The promo was gag-worthy, but the actual scene wasn't. It was all of that, "WHAT WILL SHE SAY?!?!?!?" crap that I rolled my eyes at.

I agree the scene looks ok it was the voice over that pushed it to cheesy.

So what is the consensus on Ronnie, I'm ehh on her.
Biba
This episode was so much better than last week. I was tense through the episode and I was not expecting that end. I just wish the girl had landed on Catherine! Heh!

Ronnie is okay I guess, but I need more episodes to judge her character. I loved how Sara was with her... Heh "Nineteen"

Also, has anyone notice that Wallace was out of the credits and Louise was back in again? I'm not sure if they made a mistake or if they changed it back to how it was!
AimingforYoko

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Funny, neither one was in the ep. I wonder if it's a contractual thing where they'll rotate the two.

Meh with a side of eh. Considering that she's on swing shift with Sara, and Grave doesn't seem to need more people, I can't see them conveniently switching her to Grave once Sara leaves, so I'm hoping it really is just a 4-episode grind.

I was really confused by it. It all felt very jumbled and messy to me. And what is going on with the bee conspiracy.

As for Louise, I think they may have just accidentally run an old credit sequence.

Grissom needs to carry a bifold mirror in his kit. Sticking your head in a hole in the wall when you hear that much buzzing is just plain crazy. But I adore him when he’s in full bugman mode, all excited.

So what is the consensus on Ronnie, I'm ehh on her.

I found Ronnie extremely annoying.

I found this episode kind of meh. And yet another bad kid story. Enough already. I’m saddened that Douglas Petrie had a hand in this one.

The cinematography at the start was cool.

The look of apprehension on Greg’s face when Grissom has him open the attic door was brilliant. I love the Greg and Grissom scenes.

The hint of extreme GSR next week is going to make me throw up in my mouth. I'm not eating before the show airs.

It's weird because last week I read this:

Someone at TalkCSI contacted David Rambo about Louise Lombard's current role in the series, and apparently she is not a recurring character currently, but will be invited to guest star if the script is written with Sofia in it, and her schedule allows.

The hint of extreme GSR next week is going to make me throw up in my mouth. I'm not eating before the show airs.

It's probably not even going to be that big of a part of the episode.
Goshen Girl
Gee, did something happen besides the promo at the end? *squeals*

Okay, but I did watch the actual episode and it was very doomsdayish what with the dying bees, obvious references to the heat/global warming and the girl being much younger than she looked. She was 12??? And of course the conversation between Sara and Grissom about the bees and the world ending. Speaking of that, I loved Sara showing up at the house and Greg telling her he missed her, and that Grissom was inside. It was just so casual, like hey, your boyfriends upstairs.

And I never thought I would see a promo like that for this show...not that I am complaining, mind you. I'm just in shock. They better do this right!
Ipstenu
I liked the episode. I actually had a moment where I thought Mercutio- I mean Minister was really still a pedophile and was going to ... er ... screw the demon out of her. The killing made me cheer, though. That kid was really screwed up.

I thought they were going to tie the cases together. Say she was mildly allergic to bees, or honey, and the bees in her room made her crazy. Take THAT Grissom!

Also? Ronnie can die, now, thank you. Even Holly Gribbs wasn't that irksome. If she asked questions that were relevant to the case, I may not have minded.
mauberley
Was anyone else thrown off by non-Filipino actors portraying the deceased Filipino family? The writers took the time to insert little details to make the Filipino family believable, like the wife's name (Girlie), the surname (Macalino), and the balut (the pronunciation of which Warrick totally botched... so much for having a friend from Manila) -- I suppose to give some credibility to the motivation for the exorcism -- that it seems like they could have found some Filipino actors for the parts.

Aside from that, I thought it was a good enough episode. Loved seeing Harold Perrineau and Sam Witwer. Ronnie has the same sort of vibe that Lindsay on CSI:NY has (bubbly, effervescent, like Alka-Seltzer). I'll give her a couple of eps to see how they develop her character.
mooncreek
Since I doubt Ronnie is anything more than a temporary thorn in Sara's side (and I so would have been acting like Sara if I had to hear those questions), I can deal with her. If she joins the main crew, then I'll have problems with it.

Voiceover guy needs to shut the fuck up. I predict it will be about as much a part of the episode as Ecklie questioning them about their relationship last week.
Biba
I loved Greg and Grissom's scene together at the house. And Greg's expression when he had to opened the attic door. Heh!

"Okay, so it's not just the ringing in my ear?" - Best quote of the night for me!

I can't tell if I don't like her for logical reasons or only because she is new and may take Sara's place, or at least is a part of the Sara removal plan.

I'm going to have to watch the pilot again to gauge who was more irksome.
tabbystar7
I'm pretty sure Ronnie won't be heading to the main crew, as she's with Sara on swing. They're pretty much easing her out of the show...but then, where would that leave Ronnie? Urgh. She's rather irritating.

I was, I'll admit, quite excited about next week's preview. Is it next Thursday yet?
Biba
Is it next Thursday yet?

Sorry to say, but no it's not yet! 167 hours until the next episode! The question is... can we wait that long? Heh!

The only reason why I liked Ronnie, is because it gave Sara some scenes. But yeah she was kind of annoying! Maybe she will get better?
tabbystar7
Too many hours... It's times like these that I especially miss the recaps.

Hopefully Ronnie will get better. Perhaps it's just that fresh-faced bubbliness that is driving me up the wall.
Driad
Near the beginning Catherine said (I think) that the crime rate rises when the temperature is over 110°F. From somewhere I recall that the murder rate is highest when the temperature is in the 90s -- people are short-tempered in hot weather but have less energy when it's very hot. Does someone have relevant data? Thanx!

Word! I can't wait to see that scene (and they called us "GSR fans"!!!!), but the promo was really ¬¬...

And about the actual topic... I can't see the episode yet since I'm not from the U.S., but I do look forward to it!!! that Ronnie doesn't sound like a very likeable character, does she?
lanter
The devil daughter ending was predictable but I didn't see Michael tossing her off of the balcony so I found the storyline decent.

I think she is on Sara's shift so they can give the actress/character a tryout. It it works then she will move to Grissoms shift, if not then she will probably be gone by midseason. This one episode did not give me a good handle on the character/actress so I am withholding judgment.
Swedish Chef
Ronnie is just . . . ugh. I mean, if you don't have the intellectual curiosity to know the actress for whom you are named, you are not going to be a good investigator.

At least they were consistent with her character, having her badger Sara with asinine questions. If I were Sara, I'd be short with Ronnie, too, even if I hadn't just endured assault, kidnapping, Lawrentian staggering through the desert, and being kicked to swing.

As for the promo? Well, I don't mind Grissom proposing or the Geeks marrying, but the fact that its happening in bee gear? Means I'll Never. Get. A. Kiss. Geez! Can I please see Billy plant one on her already?

Liked Sara interacting with Greg. Am totally fearing the YoBling that they are grooming to be GSR 2.0. (Shirt-swapping scene, anyone?) Was happy to see Brass get lots of air time tonight.
RacerX
I liked Ronnie, her obvious enthusiasm for what she was doing was a breath of fresh air. Sara came across as smug and patronizing. The NY and Miami namedropping was borderline cute. I put up with up only in gratitude that she wasn't able to rattle off the names of more CSI shows.

Harold Perrineau's character was a good fakeout because there was no reason to believe he had given up his old ways. He certainly never claimed the old charges were false, just that he was a different person. Who knew he was so dedicated to his new calling that he would go to extremes to ensure that his exorcism success rate remained high. Who knew child protective services would let a street preacher see a 12 year old girl alone?

So much Archie goodness.

I hope Gris is careful with those non-killer bees. The story goes that killer bees were released into the Americas by the combined efforts of a curious scientist and lax controls. I hope the idiocy he has shown in his personal life doesn't spill over to his scientific endeavors.

RE: Roni Lake

Hate her. I'd rather they bump Mandi up to CSI. I found her way more interesting than Roni in this ep. And Mandi was only on for a few seconds.
mertensia

I felt this way too.

I didn't foresee that Preacher guy would persist in trying to exorcise Amy at Child Protective Services.

Nick played vanishing CSI again tonight.
HotBlooded
Really? I would have thought that Sara was being kind of snappish, except for when Ronnie suggested that they were supposed to cover the cops. I enjoyed the smackdown. It reminded me why I love Sara. Because even after so many years on the job, she hasn't lost her sense of right and wrong.

Also, wouldn't you be a little bitter if you had to give up working with your friends whom you'd been working with for the last 7 years?
Sheldon
I can understand Sara's frustration. Watching the grave yard shift work together for so long, with such a great rhythm and unspoken understanding that Sara( already thrust into a shift that I'm pretty sure she'd not be a part of) must feel like she's babysitting. Seriously, doesn't that Ronnie character look like a Jr. High kid?? The case was ok. Is it me, or are the plots getting less involved? As for the preview; I support the GSR, but mostly I support Sara and knowing the news that's been floating around I think Sara and GSR fans may be about to be disappointed. Really hope I'm wrong but Sara seems to be on the fast track out of town.
RoseyGrape
As for Louise, I think they may have just accidentally run an old credit sequence.

I actually thought for a minute that I was watching an older episode, and heaved a huge sigh of relief once I saw Sara's arm in the sling.

I, too, would rather see Mandi than Ronnie. I know it's been said here before, but why bring in new characters when there are so many supporting characters that we'd like to see more of? (and I don't read spoilers so if there is a reason for bringing in Ronnie, don't tell me!)

My favourite line of the night- "That's a hundred dollar fine right there."
Dezdemona
Overall, I really enjoyed the episode. Harold Perrineau was excellent, as always. Didn't see that twisty ending coming.

Ronnie is excessively annoying and I really hope she's only around for a short while. I don't mind the bubbly enthusiasm, but the girl is a complete airhead. She's not credible because she doesn't seem smart enough to have landed that job, much less to have been offered her choice of jobs elsewhere.
wlk68
Totally didn't see the whole throwing the kid off the balcony thing coming. I like it when CSI can surprise me.

Ronnie was a tad *too* enthusiastic, all wide-eyed and bubbly. She kinda grated, like those overly perky people who work in Disney World. I think it's a case of her having all the techincal skills because she just got out of CSI school but hasn't learned about the human side of it. To her the victims aren't real yet and this is all just a fun game. Her comment to Sara about why bother talking to the cops was totally the wrong thing to say. Her casual dismissal of the dead homeless guy not being worth the bother made me want to slap her...hard.

"I'm limiting you to twenty questions." "Really?" "Nineteen." Hee! Loved this!!

I also liked how they made the city itself a character in this story with the heat, the blackouts and Nick's comment about the $100 fine for the use of the sprinkler during a water ban. I also liked his comment about whatever that was on the kitchen floor tasting like chicken.

What I didn't like was how he disappeared at the halfway point in the story never to be seen again. *grr* All I can say is he better have a nice juicy role in next weeks eppy to make up for it.

Which brings me to the the promo for next week. Urg. I will never like the GSR but I have resigned myself to it. Having said that. I definitely didn't appreciate the promo for next week. It was all about the GSR and "WHAT WILL SARA'S ANSWER BE????? *GASP*"

Puh-lease....Can you say cheesy? I knew you could. Very soapy. How about a little something about the actual case? I'm sure the other 6 main characters on the show will be doing something but you would never know it from the promo.
Kel Varnsen
Did anyone else have bad Augustus Hill/Oz flashbacks as soon as they heard Harold Perrineau preaching at the beginning of the episode? That was probably the only really annoying thing for me. Although the fact that the bees didn't really do anything kind of bugged me as well.
AmyLynnEsq
Joining with the Ronnie hate.

Can someone explain who/what killed the homeless guy? I swear I was paying attention, but cannot for the life of me remember what happened with that plot!
GothamCity
I found the demon child story half really disturbing, half kind of dumb. I did think the girl was older than 12, though, and I think the look on Catherine's face is setting us up for her ep. w/the hubby, where she considers another lifestyle. She's been through a lot of evil kids and I'm sure it wears on you.
As for the promo -- my first reaction was "please don't go there" -- I liked GSR when it was subtle. However, I suppose it works as a plot device -- their story has to have some conclusion, and it allows both WP and JF to get out of town. My prediction: Sara says no, she leaves Vegas, Grissom heartbroken, reverts back to some level of antisocial-ness, decides he can't live without Sara, and WP walks off into the sunset.
Anakerie
Line of the night: "You looted the crime-scene of its bees?"

Line of the night that only happened in my head:

"What is the name of your partner?"
"WAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLTTTTTTT!!!!!"

AmyLynnEsq: Homeless guy died of exposure from the heat. Dehydration etc.

Ronnie, had she asked pertinent questions, would have been nice. Like 'Why do the ants swarm?' Sara answered. 'Do ants have taste buds?' ... Um. Case at hand, girl. DEAD GUY. I got the impression she was very chatty, very off topic, and all over the place with her questions. She's yet to learn how to concentrate on the case, and having dealt with those people, I wanted to shoot them after an hour. Then again, I'm not very patient with teh stupid.

At least when Greg was young and cute and Liam-the-Lab-Tech, he wasn't cloying and annoying. He was goofy, but you knew he was smart and he knew the job. Even Holly Gribbs had a love for forensics and asking the RIGHT questions. Ronnie's acting like she's on 'take your kid to work' day :/

(I think Ronnie was funnin' Brass about her name vs Veronica Lake, by the way. But still.)

Really, she seemed like kind of an air head. It made it really hard for me to believe there would be multiple labs trying to fight to hire her. I mean she may be highly skilled, but I would think a job interview would kill her chances of getting hired.
YumYum
It's a little soon to absolutely hate or love Ronnie...she's only been in a few scenes. I'm trying not to associate her addition to the show as a Sara-event. She's simply a new employee, young and enthuisatic, as we all were once! So far, I'm fine with her...but I have always enjoyed new blood on a long running show, as long as the core intent of the show stays.
almightyisis
I have always enjoyed new blood on a long running show, as long as the core intent of the show stays.

I would normally agree with this but they have such a great cast already and so many of them are neglected that I would prefer they do more with the cast they have. I certainly don't need any more Catherine based stories but Warrick, Greg and all the lab and morgue folks - some of them barely get a throw away line. For example how is Dave's marriage going? More importantly and it cannot be said enough - MORE BRASS!! Bring back Donna Murphy, lets get the guy laid!
Ocean Chick
Ronnie Lake = Holly Gribbs 2.0. Now with *more* annoyance factor! Heh.

Ronnie totally reminded me of my niece, who also can talk a blue streak. She's very intelligent, but is currently going through a phase where she thinks it's "cute" to be a bubble head and talk all the time. But then she's only 13. I dunno what Ronnie's excuse is.

I thought that Sara was a tad snappish in putting Ronnie in her place about the police being involved, but totally right about telling her that if she can't be fair and impartial then she'll never be a good CSI. The police are not always right or good. Nor are they all evil. They are humans too, and some of them use their power to do bad things. And if Ronnie is a CSI for any length of time, she'll have to deal with that. I hope that the cop has a few restless nights over the fact that the homeless guy died, but I rather doubt it. He'll probably see it as just less "scum" he has to deal with.

Loved that Brass came over to say hi to Sara, and that Greg acknowledged that he misses her. Can't wait to see how Sara feels about babysitting a hive of bees (and I hope they have forgiving neighbors). Grissom's face when he first saw the hive was too cute - he's SUCH a geek.

Loved Harold Perrineau as the preacher. But then I always do love his work. At least when he's not shouting "Waaallllllllttttt!" all the time. And his throwing Amy over the balcony was a surprise. That's one way to get rid of a demon, I guess.
southern bronco
I missed a bit of dialogue... who went to the FBI?

Ronnie's OK considering the rest of the characters are so cynical and hardened. And she's nicer to look at than the rest of the female leads.

At least unlike the movie, the Exorcist wasn't the one tossed down the stairs, but I think the writers got bogged down a bit in the third act and never recovered.
Spencerphile

Actually, I'm not entirely sure he was there to exorcise a demon. The look he gave as he was closing the door to the girl's room was mighty suspicious. He looked very pleased with himself. I think he was getting rid of a witness to his return to pedophilia and child porn and disguised it as continuing the "exorcism" witnessed by the parents. Unless the cops can turn the new partner against him, they certainly can't prove otherwise.

Interesting theory but I'm not sure I agree. I can't see him caring if he's arrested for murder or for child molestation. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Besides, he's been caught red-handed and he's going wind up doing time either way which is a bit of a road block to his return-to-pedophilia plans.

I get the impression that he really has "seen the light" and is waaaayyyyy overcompensating for past misdeeds by being all obsessive with his newest compulsion: religion. He's substituting one addiction with another and is now a hardcore religious zealot and the end justifies the means.

Just my two cents.....
RacerX

I think understanding insect behavior on a body is pertinent when examining a dead body. If the insects had been doing something unusual, it would have been a clue. Knowing what is usual behavior and unusual behavior will certainly help intepret the crime scene. It didn't pan out in this instance, but I don't think it is stupid to ask questions. I don't think it is stupid to be excited or nervous when you are just starting out. Given how pretty much everyone else was dismissive of the db, it's not surprising that Ronnie didn't attribute as much importance to him as she probably should have done. That's part of the maturation process as a c.s.i., knowing what significance to place on each activity. The flip side to not seeming to be that concerned is to think that everything you do is so important and should be the top priority for the lab even when your boss tells you differently. If that is the lesson she is supposed to learn then suddenly it makes complete sense why she was tagging along with Sara.
Ipstenu
No, but a CSI just starting out is out of school and knows about the basics of these things. She should have some book smarts, lacking the experience.

Now, not knowing the details of etymology? Sure. She's no Grissom. But being told they're scavengers who go for the easy part first pretty much covers it. Asking about taste buds makes me assume she wanders off on tangents a lot.
