Looks like the facebook group worked!

I'm very excited about this! Anything that feeds my insane obsession with SYTYCD is good by me. Now here's hoping they don't mess it up and cheap out on production. CNTM I'm looking at you!
Dolphincorn
I should try out. I'm the Canadian Sex, only with a creepier mother.
Scade
I'll reveal what a big dork I am: I so want the theme song to go "So You Think You Can A Da (nce)."

Audition dates and cities are up? Where is everyone? someone other than me must care about this show! :)

I hope you guys get Blake McGrath as a choreographer. Lordy knows he needs the work and he's a fantastic dancer (better than Nick Lazzarini).
TwistTie
Both Blake & Jean-Marc would be the first two I'd book as they are our main Canadian connection to the original show. Jeff Hyslop also comes to mind for Broadway numbers
EmbraceTheDark
I am SYTYCD's hardcore bitch through and through no matter what part of the world it's in, so I cannot wait for this. Although the Australian version has its flaws, I'm completely hooked, so I'm pumped for this too.

As much of a diva as Blake can be, the man is a fantastic dancer (he's amazing in the new Janet video) and I really like some of his choreo on YouTube, so I hope he signs on as a choreographer as well.
TwistTie
You can get a Blake fix in on Girlicious tonight
cagewench
I am *so* looking fwd to this!

Though I was looking for this in the main SYTYCD forum and just tonight I thought to check in the questions for the mod thread and then I knew where to come and look :>

Though I hope the new season of the American show will still have a tour date in Canada.

I hope that the Canadian season focuses more on the good dancing and less on the time-wasting psychos (like Sex and his Mom). And that they get to do a tour of their own.

Apparently Leah from muchmusic is going to host this.
D o t
Apparently there's going to be more of a focus on ballet... I hope so anyway!
My dream would be having Karen Kain as one of the main judges...

I do hope people who audition will post here about their experience. If I wasn't 10 years too old I'd give this a go myself

Apparently Leah from muchmusic is going to host this.

Ugh. Horrid news. I knew we couldn't match the awesomeness of Cat Deeley, but, really.
D o t
I don't know much about Leah Miller, apart from the fact that she looks like she has a crooked face. Who would you have rather had as a host? Tanya Kim?
Actually, you know who might have been kinda cool? Neve Campbell.

Yes. Leah Miller is a nasty person, not to mention really annoying and shrill.

CTV has released more info here.

Permanent judges: Jean Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong
Alternating third judge: Luther Brown or Blake McGrath

Special guest judge: Rex Harrington!!

I don't know much about Leah Miller...

Her experience with live studio audience would help her with this gig. I am a bit surprised with the negative responds to the host selection, Leah has to be one of the least wooden/one of the more lively hosts on MuchMusic.

ETA: I guess I haven't watched Much in a while, there are only three woman VJs? I like Sarah Taylor (and she is 5'11" - taller than Cat!) best but oh well. I also checked out the CTV bios, the woman hosts listed are Tanya Kim, Sophie Gregoire, Susie Wall, Anna Cyzon, Jully Black, and Elaine Lui. Well, I will take Leah over them. We will see how it goes. If I could watch Lauren Sánchez in S1, I think I will be okay with Leah.

That's not exactly stiff competition[/pun], though.

And Blake! So excited. I wonder if he'll also choreograph.
oakgal
I'll add my voice of dissent for the choice of Leah Miller. I think she's terrible and somewhat of a dingbat. Tanya Kim is equally horrible.

Great panel of judges, especially the promise of guest-judge Rex Harrington. Love that ballet is going to be included. I want Karen Kain to come in too.

Pardon me while I do the Myposian Dance of Joy!

Possibly as a rotating judge on the US version tends to choreograph as well, we can only hope

I couldn't agree more. Really dislike her. She seems forced/fake all the time. If they want a Much host I'd go with Matt. At least he'd be able to be real and admit he knows nothing about dance while still connecting with the audience!

Leah? Just Ewwwwwwww!
BawlofFame
Leah Miller? Really? Pick the most fake on-air personality out there why don't they. From Muchmusic they could've gone with Sarah Taylor or Hannah Simone instead. Both are leagues better than her.

Hello Canadian dance groupies...Aussie poster here. Our own inaugural version of SYTYCD just finished here and we're already in withdrawal. We were lucky to have a thoroughly likeable Final 4, and absolutely adorable Final 2, although rather too much hip-hop and the misfortune of having Nigel's harmless but nonsensically garrulous ex as a judge. But hey, you can't have everything.

Some of us might like to vicariously live through your series as a stop-gap. When does it begin?
BawlofFame
I'm not sure when it will start, but they are currently auditioning in different cities until early June.

And while both Canada and Australia await Canada's version with bated breath, don't forget that the original US version starts its new season this month (May 22, I believe.)
cagewench
I read that one of the dancers put through to Vegas on the American show this season is auditioning for the Canadian version as well.

Not sure how reliable it is, but I thought it was interesting.

Oh and the dancer was from Toronto.
oakgal
Oh, that Jeremiah dude from Toronto who was doing the push-ups? I wondered why he didn't just audition for the Canadian one. Interesting.
Iguana
I would guess for the same reason that people apply to more than one college -- gotta have a safety school. Besides, if he can get on the US version, he'll probably have a hell of a lot more exposure than the Canadian one.

I'm so looking forward to the SYTYCD Canada style. The best info I've found is at the ctv website, which indicates the show will start this fall. Makes sense, as I expect most of their resources this summer are needed for Canadian Idol.
Sammyboy
I guess this is a really unpopular opinion but I'm totallly stoked about Leah Miller as the host. I love her on muchmusic. She's my favorite vj along with Matt. I don't find she's fake, she seems like a fun and nice person.
legaleagle44
It looks as though Jeremiah will be available for the Canadian SYTYCD after all. I just hope he doesn't throw the same kind of hissy fit during the choreography that cost him a chance at our version.
cagewench
I now don't even feel sure I'd *want* to see him in the Canadian version after that.
Hammered
I really liked Jeramiah. His dancing was really interesting. I hope he doesn't screw up this time.
ieh21
Is Leah Miller the one who does Much OnDemand? (she's the only one I know...) I don't care who they ask to host, heck, it could be Ben Mulroney for all I care, JEAN-MARC GENEREUX is on! That's all I need!

(although, Sophie Gregoire? What, so that we have both an ex-Prime Minister's son and an ex-Prime Minister's daughter-in-law on our tvs at the same time?? I'm happy it's not her, she'd annoy me just because she's Justin Trudeau's wife...)
oakgal
Article about the upcoming season including news that Dan Karaty will be a guest judge! Excellent, he's a terrific judge.

CTV

Yep, that's Leah Miller, ieh21.

Now that the U.S. version of SYTYCD is nearing the end of the season - I am wishing SYTYCD Canada was starting earlier.

I was over at the SYTYCD-Can site on CTV and doing a lot of reading about it this evening. I am probably expecting too much but I am really hoping that the Canadian version will lack the overt shenanigans and manipulations of TPTB that occurs on the U.S. version.

Also, I hope there is less of a focus on the bad auditions and that "Sex" doesn't have dual citizenship and end up in a bad audition sequence.
Pixigal
Cagewench - me too. I mean I do understand it is a reality show and there will always be manipulation and scripted moments but it just seems so out of control this year. For me SYTYCD Australia was almost as fun as watching SYTYCD season 2, so I'm hoping Canada's version will get some of that fun, breathless excitement back.

I do love Jean-Mark most of the time and think the panel of judges will have a lot of potential. I just am tired of the meanness that seeped into a lot of the show this year.
redtulip
So now that I know Blake and all his awesomeness are involved with this show I really want to watch. Are there any options besides youtube for us Americans? Will they have the episodes online at all? I'm guessing probably not because of music rights, but a girl can hope.
pythosis
There's probably a good chance CTV will have full episodes online available for watching - they have a lot of shows up. Keep an eye on the CTV website after the show starts airing.
Scade
Seeing Blake on the judging panel really thrilled me. I still love that boy. Does anyone else get the feeling that he might have been talking down to Jeremiah Hughes, of tantrum-throwing-in-Vegas fame?
Unusual Suspect
I have to admit, I'm looking forward to this.
Iguana
Has CTV announced a start date? I've tried to find something on their website, but nada.
oakgal
Don't know an exact date, but I think it must premiere early in September. The promos are ramping up and we got that really long Blake-centric commercial during the finale show of SYTYCD which indicates it's coming soon.

Thanks goodness---I can't wait any longer. Hurry up already, CTV!

Question is do they do like a lot of the US networks do and block viewing if you don't live in Canada
cagewench
That I do not know but I suppose you could go to the CTV website or MuchMusic and see if there are any other shows you'd like to try to watch and if you can't - then it's likely it would be the same with SYTYCD-Can.
EagerContrarian
“Holland has such a diverse group of people, and the hip-hop scene is insane!” he tells Us. “Those episodes will be everything [seen] on the U.S. show and more. [As for Canada], the top 20 there is going to be the strongest top 20 I’ve seen anywhere. And that’s not just a pitch – I mean it!”
Source, bolding mine.

I'm so excited for this to start, I really hope that CTV posts up full episodes. Wow, they had a really long lead-time between auditions an the live shows. There are so many good Canadian dancers, I can't wait.
oakgal
I can't wait either! But late September? Noooo, I need early September. Heck, I need late August. Hurry up already, SYTYCDC. Hurry up!

I am really looking forward to this. I'm on a border town so I will be able to watch.

VPTV has just updated its So You Think You Can Dance, Canada post. Seems the site will be recapping SYTYCDC on its Canadian TV Recaps page. Their writer did well recapping Maria and Canadian Idol, seems to know performing. Anybody know who it is? The site's not saying.

Is it possible that it still starts early September but his episodes are a little bit later? Like maybe the "Vegas (aka Toronto)" week? Auditions usually take up the first three weeks or so of these type of shows.
