I was hoping for Derek/Jennie to get the encore. I think I enjoyed it even more this time.
Ooooh, Eddie & Valentina! Kiss From a Rose, squee! Lol Seal doesn’t sound all that great live. Maybe it was just an off night?
Weren't they just stunning? I love how breathtaking the smooth dancers can be. One of my fave pro exhibitions yet! I love her dress; the overall look actually. Eddie looks great too.
Billy Ray has a pleasant voice. I’ve always thought so. His daughter though isn’t very good imo. It is a nice song.
Maks & Karina did a nice dance. She’s just so fabulous to watch. That oversized shirt looked horrible on him.
A feature on the music people and a complimentary one at that? Are you frakkin kidding me? ABC sucks!
Drew, don’t leave us! Save us from mumbles! Maybe TPTB will consider it for next season? I know, I know, damn’d wishful thinking. I love the rapport that Tom and Drew have developed. They’re so much fun.
Hee, Helio and Drew look so tiny compared to the other guys.
Yes, Helianne are safe! Not that I doubted it! Yay for optimism! I’m so hoping they get Paso Doble next week. My fave couple doing my fave dance. Julianne’s choreo never lets me down. I suppose they’ll get the other dance though. I lurve Viennese so I doubt I’ll be disappointed either way.
Wayne is gone and he was the clear choice imo.
An hour is too damn long. The results show really needs to be cut down to 30 minutes.

Yay, they're bringing on the Viennese Waltz again! And ooohh, the Paso. Paso is my favorite dance, I hope to see some really good ones since this cast seems really good. I hope Cameron and Edyta get the Paso, just because I love watching Edyta be the cape.
I was so STOKED to see Jennie and Derek get the encore. I felt their dance was the best of all the couples last night, her posture aside. I was shocked it didn't go to Jane, but so happy for Jennie. It looked even better tonight, I thought.
Bye, Wayne. Floyd isn't the best, but I'd have felt really bad if he'd gone before Wayne and Mark Cuban (send this guy HOME already)!
Seal was good. I liked Billy Ray and Miley's song. The couple who performed to Seal's 'Kiss from a Rose' bored me to tears, it was SO DULL.

Mark has escaped the bottom two again. I was more surprised to see Floyd there.
I don't think anyone was surprised to Wayne go. I think I'm more sad to see Drew leave. Karma that Drew/Cheryl leave on the same night?
I was a little scared Maks/Karina were going to make the Cyrus song too sexy, but it was okay. I actually think Miley has the better voice of the two but I don't mind her since she's one of the few teeny poppers who can actually carry a tune.
Was glad to see Jennie get the encore, but was a bit surprised they didn't give it to Jane for sentimental value.
Wow, Floyd was pissed off
I get the impression Floyd thinks he is a lot better than he really is. I wouldn't mind seeing him go before Mark.

Thank goodness it was Wayne going home. I was scared for Cameron.
Yay that Jennie got the encore!!!

All in all what a great results show. The right person went home and I think the correct couple were chosen for the encore! How about Heidi Klum for the next female supermodel dancetestant? It struck me watching Seal, love him! The dancers and dancing for his upcoming single were strange...

I thought he looked upset but more maybe disappointed as opposed to a rageaholic that looked like he was going to go postal. But- as we all say ymmv.
How about Heidi Klum for the next female supermodel dancetestant?
While I think Heidi would be great on the show- I wonder if PR would be too much of a conflict. Granted- other contestants are working now- but I wonder if they would be wary of having someone who hosts another popular reality show on another network.

Sorry to see Wayne and Cheryl go. I know he wasn't going to win, but I would have liked to see him stay another week or two. Mark and Floyd could go anytime too! I've never heard Seal sing before and was surprised to find that I enjoyed his song. Also enjoyed Billy Ray and Miley.

Jennie/Derek were better tonight. Hopefully she will build on that to the next week. I can see her being the underdog and sneak into the top four. I am also starting to like Derek more than Julianne. Did Helio yell obrigado when they were declared safe? These two are in my top four.
Great dancing by Maks/Karina.
A bit surprised by Floyd falling to the bottom two.
Grassy knoll-they keep reminding us (host, Monique, etc) that the women are dominating. Not that it's a surprise, but they did stack the competition w/more recognizable women.
We'll miss you Drew! I love dancing so I'll see you in January.

Jennie looked so enthused and sincerely happy to be chosen for the encore. She was definitely most improved, and I never mind watching her husband gaze proudly at her. They are so cute.
Floyd was pissed, and I felt for him. He was much more improved than Mark.
Seal was amazing, and I never get tired of that song. I love him so much.
Tonight was predictable, but I'm glad that Wayne was sent on his way. He got away with one more week than he actually deserved.
Cameron has got to stop yelling every other word out of his mouth. I get that you're excited, but please. What happened to the part in his hair?
Next week: Probably won't be a female. It's probably going to be Floyd or Mark walking that plank.

There is entirely too much filler on results show night...ugh.
Too bad that Drew couldn't stay on as co-host. I thought he was really doing a great job and seemed to have a nice rapport with the dancers and celebs. Guess it's back to Samantha's boring commentaries. *yawn*

I agree. He's terrible. He clomps around the floor and he actually seems to think he's very good.
Seal sounds awful. Especially that second song, when he decided that he was going to try and morph into a bubble gum pop singer. His voice was all kinds of wrong for that song.
Even though I hate filler, the bit about the musical selections was appreciated. Explains a bit more than we've been told in the past. Have they always been assigned music? I could have sworn that during DwtS Classic (Season 1) there was a lot of talk about how the professionals get to pick the music. Was that only speculation, or have things indeed changed?

Yeah, that was really stupid. The live music is not what brings the whole thing to my life, especially when people can dub over the routines with a different and have it be better, like they did last season. Oh, I did love Maks' comment about how "we hope we get
good music", though. That was lame propaganda for the music, I'm guessing because they know how much people don't like it.
Oh, and I missed the first half hour, but I'm glad that Jennie got the encore, because her tango was fierce and IMO it was the best of all the dances I saw last night (which was all of them except Sabrina's, Cameron's, and Jane's).

I am so relieved to see Wayne go. What I cannot believe is that, after last night's comment, Cheryl had the gall to say that working with Wayne had been one of the best experiences of her life. Maybe I misunderstood her intent but, what the heck?
I thought both Julianne and Sabrina were going to pass out from anxiety when the clock kept ticking and their names hadn't been called. Poor girls. Also, it was funny that all the women were safe and the four poor guys were left standing at the end, even though two of them didn't necessarily have low scores. Waiting for elimination is a cruel ordeal indeed.
Good for you, Jennie Garth, for getting the spotlight dance! I think she looked prettier tonight. I hope she keeps improving; her fans have certainly pulled through.
As for the segment about the music, did I miss something? I don't think they actually said *who* chooses the music. Oh, please, please, choose actual Paso Doble music when the time comes. I can't stand it when they make them dance to some awful, random and completely unrelated choice. It drives me crazy!!
What's this about Drew leaving? I must have dozed off when they said it.

That's a good question. I'm not exactly sure and I want to find out also. I do know that the song selection in S1 was a helluva lot better than the crap they have today. But I remember in S2 when they used to show the dancers getting the cds. Am I the only person who remembers that? Stacey got that Beyonce song (can't recall which one) and Tony was holding the freakin cd. They showed this during the pre-performance clip. They also use to show it for the other dancers as well. Or maybe I'm just imagining things.
I also noticed that the same singers in DWTS are also in the Singing Bee.

Hooray! I'm glad Wayne is gone and I'm glad it didn't take weeks and weeks of painful performances and irritating results shows for it to happen. I agree that Mark Cuban won't make it long, but I threw most of my votes his way because there was no way in hell he deserved to go home before Wayne. Mark and Floyd all have no chance of winning so I don't really care what order they go home.

Unfortunately, this was Drew's last show. Samantha returns next week. She's going to look twice as bad having to follow Drew's last two nights. I thought he was great last night and tonight. I'm going to miss him more than I'm going to miss Wayne!
I've heard of Seal before, but I only know him as the guy married to the amazon blond woman. I didn't know he was a singer, and was pleasantly surprised I really liked his first song. Not so much, the second song, but enough for me to check him out online to see what I've been missing.

Why do you think they had Julianne and Helio wait until the end to hear their results? Were they trying to get their fans to not be complacent? Were they punishing Julianne and Helio for not being better last night?
I wish Julianne could do something about her hair, it looks very ratty.
I don't vote for him, but I will still say YAY for Mark and Kym. She is a superb teacher and choreographer and Mark's trying his best. Their reaction to being safe was adorable. I wouldn't be sad if they stayed longer than Cameron/Edyta or Floyd/Karina.
Did you see Cheryl's blissful, relieved expression when she was eliminated? I can't say I blame her. At least she was gracious the rest of the time.
I'm concerned they are pushing the dominant-women theme *so* hard they will cause a backlash and people will punish the women. After all these years of final threes with mostly male celebrities, I don't believe the audience will suddenly shift from that perspective.
Why were they playing the American Idol goodbye song for Wayne? Wouldn't something like "My Way" have been better?
Did anyone else love the scene where Jonathan asked if anyone wanted to trade him for his crappy tango music?

The show is a lot more enjoyable when the right person goes home.
I felt bad for Floyd, though. He feels like he's letting Karina down, plus he doesn't understand his scores. (I don't blame him, considering what they tell them before they give him those scores.) I'm wondering whether this will make him mad and he'll buckle down and get really good (Go, Floyd!) or whether he'll get his head down and just give up (No, Floyd, no!)
Next week, if we're really, really lucky and Mark Cuban gets tired of ordering his staff to vote for him, maybe he'll go out, too. Wheeee!
Maks and Karina were gorgeous. My husband, who does not watch this show, came in while I was watching Maks and Karina, and immediately said, "That's not some star, is it?" And I assured him that no, those were both professional dancers. It's nice when even Mr. Two Left Feet can tell the diff.
I am assuming that Mel, Mark, Sabrina, Helio and Floyd will have the waltz next week, while Jennie, Marie, Cameron and Jane will have the paso. Hmmmm... Marie is the only one of that group I can see the paso working for, although putting on the senorita look two weeks in a row may be boring. I'm not sure what any of the waltz bunch will do. Maks and Willa had a lovely waltz, but she was much different from Mel. Mel is more bouncy and fun, whereas Willa had a nice, well, willowy thing. Helio was fine with the fox trot the first week, so I suppose his waltz will be okay. But this is the Viennese waltz. Wonder how he spots turns? Mark will be a disaster, I imagine. He is the antithesis of elegance. And this may be a challenge for Sabrina. Or maybe she'll skate right through even though the waltz doesn't suit her body or her strengths (speed, power) very well.

From what I understand, the pros - as a group - come up with a list of 100 songs before the season starts. ABC tries to license whatever they can, but they wind up with pretty odd choices. Once music's been assigned, the pro can swap for a backup song, but it's often worse than their original assignment.

During her "confessional" bit for the anxiety segment, I realized that she reminds me of Maria Bamford, looks-wise.

I think Samantha's actually protected because she took maternity leave. Unless she told ABC that she wasn't coming back, or she was gone longer than 90 days, the job is rightfully hers. If ABC fired her, they'd have one heck of a lawsuit to deal with.

That is my No. 1 problem with Floyd. Mark IMHO is a thrill to watch because he clearly is enjoying this experience. He knows he is not the best by far but he works at it all the time. Floyd to me seems like he just expects the judges/fans to adore him.

I'm more upset at Drew leaving than Wayne. Wayne left a week or so too late.
I wonder how next Tuesday's going to work with Cameron - it's supposed to be the finale of

I get the impression Floyd thinks he is a lot better than he really is. I wouldn't mind seeing him go before Mark.
And this season is how I feel about Karina. There's no doubt that Karina is a phenomenal dancer. She just seems so...snooty at times. Last year, she seemed more personable with Billy Ray. And considering Mario convinced Floyd to go on this season, it's no wonder he got partnered with her.
Or we really going to get an elimination of all the men before the women?
Now that would be awesome. An all female final!

I think Helio and maybe Cameron (soap actor, he will have a big fan base) will outlast several of the women. Helio will probably win. He's cute, has Julianne for a partner. Only if he permanently injures himself do his chances decline.

It's really ugly in my opinion the way they are pushing for a female winner this year. For me , If a woman wins, great! Awesome. If a woman doesn't win? Oh well. I want the most entertaining and best dancer to win regardless of their gender. I can only imagine if ABC was blathering that all "all the men are awesome and the women are all at the bottom of the pack." or "gosh the men all danced circles around the women on last night's show!"
Anyhow.....so long Wayne! A week too late, but better late than never! (nice guy, awful dancer)

Agree that Helio and maybe Cameron will outlast some of the women, but not so ready to bet the house on Helio winning. Yes he's cute, Julianne is adorable and a great choreographer, but it seems many are enjoying a different style/look than just the 'cutesy couple' -- thus the seemingly growing popularity of Mel B, Marie and Jane (Jennie too to some degree). I know Cameron has a big soap base, but he's so forgettable as a dancer, even with Edyta, JMO.
Not counting Helio out in any way, but who knows, there could even be a backlash against having back-to-back winners...you never know what twists and turns this competition will take.
I think the finals could be Helio with two women (hopefully Mel B and either Jane, Jennie or Marie).

I would rather have Mark last longer than Floyd. At least Mark seems to take the criticism seriously and do the best he can with what he's got. I like watching him because he looks like he loves what he's doing and is trying his damndest to make it look like a real dance.
Not that Floyd isn't trying, but he's not listening (to the judges at least). He can do the footwork, but there's no control. I hate watching him because every week it's the same horrible posture and the same running around like crazy looking like he's trying to box someone rather than make it look like the dance it's supposed to be. Energetic and fun? Yes. Looks like ballroom? No. Karina needs to break out one of those dance frame things on him to get him to stand up straight.
Sooo glad to see Wayne gone. He was just painful to watch.

I'm going to say that the couples who danced the tango this week will waltz next week. I can't imagine the couples dancing the tango and paso back to back. It's too much of the same vibe. Gotta mix it up a little.
Not really--Tango is a Standard dance and Paso Doble is a Latin dance. The dances have different moves, different holds, different techniques, and different dynamics. The Tango has far more in common with the Viennese Waltz (which, by the way? YAY for its return!!) than it does with the Paso Doble, actually, which is one of the reasons that the Tango has never been classified as a Latin dance.
CloudyGumdrops
Oct 9, 2007 @ 9:45 pm
Tango and Paso don't give the same vibe at all imo.
On the one hand, Paso Doble is my fave dance and I love seeing it. On the other hand, there's only been like 2 good ones done on this show (Apolianne and Drew/Cheryl). This dance seems to produce the worst routines. Some of the worst music also gets picked for it. I may be the only one, but I wanna see Espana Cani for every Paso Doble performed next week! Course, we probably won't even get it once. lol I don't even want to think about what songs are gonna be chosen.

I also don't think it's a given Helio will win. Much too early for that. Yes, as we know it's obviously possible for a pro to win back to back seasons but in the Emmitt vs. Mario showdown season, part of the reason I feel Emmitt won was that part of the viewership was turned off by Mario's personality. I'm not trying to get back into the who should have won that season, but part of Emmitt's success was the personality card.
This season with the exception of some being turned of personality wise by Sabrina, I don't think there is any unlikable presence here. Helio is charming (though I'm already tiring of his brand of charm), but Jane, Mel, Marie and Jennie are not without their charms either.

Last season, everyone who did the jive in week 3 (except Shandi, who was eliminated week 3) got the waltz in week 4 (Apolo, Clyde, Heather, Ian) and everyone who did the tango in week 3 did the paso doble in week 4 (Billy Ray, Joey, John Ratzenberger, Laila and Leeza).
I find it a little strange myself, but that's the way it was last year, so I assume they're doing the same this year. I'd really rather have the opposite, personally, since jive is the least Latin Latin and tango is the least Smooth Smooth, so getting tango/paso and jive/waltz back to back seems odd. But as I said, that's the way it was last year.

Delurking to say that I thought Floyd looked pissed off at the judges continually implying that he isn't listening to Karina, which he clearly is, and that he isn't working hard enough, which I also think he is.
I'd disagree with that. Floyd's posture/frame is such that he's either not listening to Karina, or listening and unable to execute. Either way, it's not good. His feet may be quick, and he may be putting his feet in the ~proper position, but the rest of his body positioning leaves a hell of a lot to be desired. And because I don't want to believe the editor-monkeys too much, I will say that his posture/frame problems have been there from the beginning and (anecdotally and in my opinion) haven't improved at all. That means, no matter how hard he's working on learning where his feet are supposed to go, he's not doing nearly enough on figuring out the rest of his body.
And
legaleagle44, I think Tango and Jive are similar in that respect. "Jive" isn't a Latin dance, but it's more like cha-cha, rumba, paso and samba than waltz/fox/V-waltz/quickstep (not that it's much like either set, really, but whatever). "Tango" isn't a Standard dance in the same way that the others are. Technique-wise, at least, I see as large a difference between Argentine Tango and waltz/fox/Vwaltz/quickstep as I do between lindy hop/jitterbug/bal-swing and cha-cha/rumba/samba/paso.

I don't know if people will "punish" the women, but I'm certainly disgusted with the blatantness ( is that even a word?) of it all.
I think there are other people who feel the same way. They seemed to have deliberately cast as many shaky male dancers as they could this season, with more strong female dancers. I don't mind, because I like most of the women who are left, but I do think we're going to end up with the women facing a backlash. Particularly in the later rounds, if there's only one man left for people to throw their votes to because they don't want a woman to win.
Not counting Helio out in any way, but who knows, there could even be a backlash against having back-to-back winners...you never know what twists and turns this competition will take.
I think any backlash against him will be mitigated because people think the season is rigged for a woman.
I only hope that Helio can improve and his injuries don't cripple him.

Actually, I think that ABC only has to give her an "equal" job, not the exact same one. That is if her job is even protected, as it is in the entertainment industry, one of the few that can discriminate on the basis of race and gender.

Wayne seem like quite a gentleman, but it was past time for him to go. I'm sorry to say that I don't think I'll even miss him - and a break from and for Cheryl is probably not a bad thing either.
I tend to agree with whoever said that Floyd seems upset with the judges' implication that he's not listening to Karina or that he needs to work harder. Floyd has problems, mainly with his posture and as sidwich pointed out, that's not an easy fix, especially while he's still training - but I don't think not listening to Karina or not working hard have anything to do with his problems. For me, it always seems that Floyd has so much power on the dance floor, but not a lot of control or finesse.
Loved Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" and the waltz was danced beautifully. I was mezmorized by the dancers' grace and beautiful arms.
I think Billy Ray sings better now than he used to.....or maybe it's just that it was a much better song than Achy Breaky Heart. Karina and Maks did not let me down, although I wish he'd worn something other than his oversized sweater.....but the dancing was everything that I've come to expect and look forward to with these two - they are awesome together!
I'm so sorry to see Drew go......as has been pointed out, the atmosphere backstage is so much fun this season, and I think Drew's presence there has helped that along.

That just makes her even more annoying to me. To get a little more on topic I was glad that Wayne finally went this week. He overstayed his welcome. I'm just glad that he was such a nice guy or else I would have been miserable watching him skate by each week. Also Jane was overscored on her dance while Jennie was underscored. I was glad to see Jennie get the encore. My favorite number tonight was the first song with Seal. I loved the arrangement of the song and the dance was beautiful.

I can't tell if my problem is with Floyd or Karina. I think Floyd is trying, I really do. But the way his practice sessions and behind the scenes segments are edited make it seem like he confuses enthusiasm and energy with good dancing. He gets that he needs to learn the footwork and he does that, but the last few weeks the judges have also commented on posture. That's the biggest element that takes people out of his dances. But yet the little clips we've seen show no inkling of Floyd working on posture, but they also show no signs of Karina trying to get Floyd to concentrate on posture.
Isn't Karina the pro? She obviously knows that posture is one of his biggest problems, so why no bar over his shoulders? Why no drilling on that?
While I've seen improvement in Floyd in terms of his feet, nothing above. If Karina isn't drilling it then I can't put it all on Floyd. Though I still think Floyd is a bit deluded in terms of his current ability.

Re Floyd vs. Mark, I think the dancers are the key. Karina is the better dancer, but Kym is clearly the better teacher & choreographer. IMO, Floyd has more natural talent than Mark, but Mark had better luck with partners.

I haven't seen Cheryl grin so much since the last time she won the thing. Was that woman relieved or what? Then again, I'd be relieved too knowing that my weeks of dragging Wayne across a dance floor were over.
Poor Floyd. I agree that he thinks he's better than he is. However, his form throughout is awful. Even Mark Cuban, who wouldn't recognize a beat if it smacked him, at least tries from time to time to attempt some form. Floyd? Just hunches and dances each dance like a boxing workout.

The rehearsal footage is so darn edited that I try to pretty much ignore it and whatever story the producers want to feed the audience. But, considering how much the judges have harped on Floyd's posture, I was expecting to see that addressed at least little bit in the clips. I don't know if it's that Karina isn't trying to deal with it, or if it's that the producers aren't showing it. Or maybe she is trying but Floyd isn't getting it so she's decided to concentrate on what he CAN do and hope that will get them through. She seemed to do that with Mario and his technique issues in season 3.

OMG the Karina and Maks dance was hot. I wish they would show the whole dance and not have the dancers stop so the camera can focus on the musical guest. Or they should go back to when just the pros dance to the band and no musical guest at all.
Could not tell if Floyd was pissed or sad. I am thinking pissed. I think Karina said that two weeks ago Floyd only put in two hours of practice. She cannot correct much in that timeframe. It is up to him.

Floyd doesn't even stand up straight. When he's being interviewed he's hunched over. When they were all standing under the lights waiting to hear who's name was going to be called he was hunched. He's never going to learn to dance unhunched, if he can't even stand that way.
