I also have what most would call an "unconventional" name but "Bettina", "Estefania", and "McCarten" are new to me...

And so many shades of the same blonde hair! It's going to take me half the season keep their names straight...
boat cat
Is this the first time in bachelor history where there aren't two contestants with the same name?
duckierose
They all look the same to me.
rhody
Not a knockout in the bunch, so they had better bring the crazy.
wholia
There are several good contenders for the Krazy Eyes -- e.g., Jessica, Kristy & Melissa. I think that the odds of the crazy being brought-en range from good to Allie "Rotten Eggs" G
Celina
I'm pegging Erin as the "statuesque blonde" who strips down to her bikini during the opening night soiree.

McCarten looks like she's 12. Michele looks like a MAN, BABY!! To me, Sheena is the most attractive. Rigina, too, and I hope she's the first "Token" to make to to the "finals." Of course, I may change my mind if I end up not giving her my First Impression rose.
Haley17
Is there some bachelorette handbook I am unaware of? For instance...

1. All hair shall be straight or mildly wavey, highlighted, at least shoulder length, and parted slightly off center.

True, but you live in reality, I am sure they are contractually obligated to look like that.

According to the press release, Brad's twin brother is named Chad. Awesome. Unfortunately the other brother's name isn't Tad. That would be even awesomer.

Maybe we should call him Tad anyway, just for fun. Or we could just refer to him as "the other brother, the lad."
TalkyTina
Ok, I’m not sure this is the proper place, but I have to ask: What the fug is up with Michele?! Those teeth! The streaks! The mannish glance that says “I want to rip you into pieces with my bare manhands”!
oompah
Teets, this is what Michele really looks like. She needs to fire her hairdresser!
TalkyTina
Ok, that picture is way better. Thanks oompy. (Good to see you!)

This is a real fun interview with our newest Bachelor. He comes across as just a regular nice guy. I quite like him.

Charming Interview with Brad
talkinghead
What a great interview! I like the fact that for the most part it wasn't a bunch of hackneyed phrases (although I heard "journey" "connection" and "amazing" a few too many times to count).

Still reserving judgment until we see more interaction with the ladies, but so far so good with the bachelor.
Research Girl
Bettina interviewed by the Washington Post

I never would have guessed that Bettina and Tessa were childhood friends.

At least Bettina seems to have some perspective
On air, she claimed to be "completely falling in love." But she told us "it was more of a crush, magnified by the fact that there are 24 other women who are digging the guy you dig. So it's blown out of proportion. . . .

Thanks for the link to the article, VAHokies. So, there is going to be a B'ette next summer.

From that article:
Can you give us any insight? Or will it all be revealed on the After the Final Rose special tonight?
He'll give it some explanation, like he just sort of woke up that day, was cranky, and sort of said, ''F--- it.'' He couldn't see himself with either of those chicks and so he blew them both off.

As a producer, were you thinking you struck gold or that this would ruin your franchise?
We knew it was going to be controversial and that some people would say, ''F--- that. I'm never watching the show again.'' But it's not supposed to be a guaranteed proposal. It's about how men and women relate and date. It's about getting into the mind of a single guy and the mind of a single girl, and we certainly got that. What he did was the thing that women fear the most — he became intimate and then split the next day. The fact that it happened to two girls at once was a unique opportunity.
Why am I not surprised that Fleiss comes off like a sleaze?
Shant
I'm not either. He was really trying to push it all onto Brad. Even implying sex. I've read more than once that Brad didn't have sex with anyone and he has stressed this. Brad sure isn't perfect but I do buy this. Could be wrong, but for now I buy it.

Didn't you just love the ending that Fleiss wanted to have originally? (sarcasm)So classy.(sarcasm)
reasontobelieve
I loved that ending. It would have been perfect!
Kalyne

Well, Fleiss pretty much confirms what I thought happened. Brad wanted to have sex with Jenni and DeAnna, said what he needed to to get them both to that point, then lost interest after the "conquest".

He'll give it some explanation, like he just sort of woke up that day, was cranky, and sort of said, ''F--- it.'' He couldn't see himself with either of those chicks and so he blew them both off.

Classic MO, for a certain type of man. I feel I understand Brad better (and still dislike him) after reading the Fleiss comments.

After saying Brad was "a great guy" (?), Fleiss added, "I wish he would have been a little more committed to making those girls happy too....Those girls really put themselves out there. Jenni might have been more open with her emotions than any other girl in the history of the show...You felt like she was truly in love....When he and Jenni were together they couldn't keep their hands off each other....I really felt for her. I felt myself tearing up, which almost never happens."

Not only was Brad evidentally quite a player, but he -really- had that act down well.

At least Fleiss confirmed a "Bachelorette" for the fall. Personally, like many others here, I think that's a much more workable and (usually) enjoyable premise.
rhody
As Paul Simon would sing about Jen, "Still Delusional After All These Years."
Her double standard argument is just a steaming load. She didn't get criticized because she chose herself, but because she had the boyfriend stashed away during production of the show. I'm just disappointed that Arriana gave her the space to whine.
Shira
Re: the Jen Schefft interview: What planet is she living on where Brad hasn't been criticized for his decision? (Did she even see ATFR with the booing audience and the line of questioning from Chris? She's obviously never read anything on this site with all of the "tool" references to Brad.) And her ridiculous comment that Jennifer Aniston received "the majority of the negative publicity" when her marriage failed? WTF is she blathering on about? Her planet obviously doesn't stock up on all of the supermarket rags that are STILL (how many years and children later?) portraying Jolie & Pitt as the bitch & bastard who ruined poor Jennifer Aniston's life.

And yes, the majority of viewers are pissed at Jen S. for the boyfriend on the side and therefore wasting everyone's time going on the show just to be a fame ho--not for rejecting the two proposals.

Earth to Jen Schefft: You clearly have no clue, and you never did.

Jenni might have been more open with her emotions than any other girl in the history of the show...You felt like she was truly in love....When he and Jenni were together they couldn't keep their hands off each other....I really felt for her. I felt myself tearing up, which almost never happens."

That quote from Fleiss, along with Chris Harrison's obvious affection for Jenni, make it seem likely that she will be asked to be the next Bachelorette--if she finishes any unfinished biz with her ex-beau, that is. If they pick Deanna, I will snooze right through that season. Nice and very pretty, but she always talked to Brad like she was reading the quarterly financial reports.

Fleiss comes off as such an a-hole. Calling women "chicks" in a media interview--okay, fine with your locker room buddies, but grow up and act like a professional when you're giving quotes to the press. Also, he's obviously pissed at Brad--as is Chris--for ruining the fairy tale ending and thus endangering their paychecks. As he said, the network wasn't happy with the way yet another Bachelor series ended (i.e., relationship up in flames).
felixthecat
Jen Schefft is bitter she couldn't close the deal with the hipster club owner boyfriend. And she got caught lying on tv. Look, the woman is a mendacious weasel unworthy of anything more than a laugh.
Miss Alli
Seriously, Fleiss is not anyone from whom I'd take any information about anyone's motives with anything other than a grain of salt. Half a grain. A quarter-grain.

Isn't Fleiss the pimp who arranges for the bachelor to take the ladies on a "test-run" so said bachelor can decide who he wants to spend the rest of his life with and who he wants to give the heave-ho?

If so, I can understand his anguish and need to protect the ladies from any undue heartache. And I am sure he only wants the viewing audience to know that it is Brad that is really messed-up, not the premise that 25 women can gather with the intention of falling in love with the same man, sight yet unseen, compete for a chance to "open up" in the "fantasy suite" and win the ultimate prize of happily-ever-after (either that or be the weeping reject in a limo). Fleiss wants to make sure we understand that Brad is just a womanizer. And if Fleiss would have had his way we would have seen that Brad prefers a meaty sandwich and the teevee over love because he is a loser.

To what lengths will Fleiss go to insure The Bachelor, and true love, prevail? He only wants everyone to be happy. Fleiss and his henchman, Chris have to expose Brad as the anti-bachelor, so we can continue to believe.

When Chris put forth his obnoxious "I dare you to marry RIGHT NOW" to Mary and Byron; I wondered if the couple just want to wait until they are no longer obligated to do the The Bachelor trot. Maybe they would rather marry in private without ABC turning it into a schlocky media affair, a la Trista and Ryan. Or maybe ABC has the contractual right to their marriage, whenever it may happen, so they have decided to forgo it altogether.

Re: Mary getting arrested: HOLY CRAP! I am stunned.

But...I just knew those two had some serious issues because of their long, drawn-out engagement in sharp contrast to her wanting to get married "sooner rather than later" and all of her "clock-ticking" talk. They had to be delaying for some reason. I wonder if the cut on Byron's face was from her engagement ring! Who cares about the Brad fiasco--I am dying to be a fly on the wall for the Mary vs. Byron saga! I wonder if he'll drop the charges? How long before they're totally kaput, too? Wow...
Firthient
Jen Schefft just doesn't get it. I don't think people were angry that she'd rejected both Jerry and John Paul, but because she was dishonest. In countless interviews, she proclaimed she'd met a "nice guy" and that she was inlove. She failed to mention it was her boss. She made fools of the 25 bachelors and millions of viewers.

Mary getting arrested for assaulting Byron is quite shocking. They seemed so happy to have found each other. With her biological clock no longer ticking but thumping, I've always wondered why they hadn't wed. Now I know.
Angellina
In case you want to see Mary's mugshot!

http://www.tmz.com/2007/11/23/bachelor-byr...his-ass-kicked/

Yippee, The Bachelor's first domestic.

This guy was my favorite, too. And I had such high hopes that they were just happy living together and not giving a crap if they were married or not.

Hmm, Mary said she's professional fishing too - maybe she caught a big one?
princessu
That's insane.

Wow, pretty shocking! Not that it is much better, but glad that it wasn't Byron doing the hitting...would have been even worse. Lots of black eyes for "The Bachelor" lately (no pun intended).

"Alcohol was believed to have been involved". It usually is. And of course it is free flowing on "The Bachelor" too and I imagine promoted by the production crew to make things a little more interesting.

Everyone makes mistakes. Hopefully the incident is a wake up call and things can be worked out. At least they were smart enough not to rush into marriage if they were having problems.
MerBear
Mary was arrested at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Tampa -- that was just a few hours after the ATFR show aired. Wow. I realize it was taped the previous Friday, but it makes you wonder if they had a giant fight after they watched the show. They're neeeevvvver going to get married!!!
007Girl
There was always something a little too emotional about Mary, I get the feeling she is very high strung and quite a handful! He's such a laid back guy, I wonder what the hell happened, and if he's the one who called the police? The article was so vague, "the man she lives with"...that is bizarre. How embarrassing for ABC, and The Bachelor. especially after trotting them out as a big Bachelor success story. And to think this woman was once heartbroken...over Bob! It's very sad, I feel sorry for Byron. Something did seem a little off with those two on the ATFR show. She said November they would marry...as in this month? Don't run out and get them that toaster yet.

They never mention Charlie and Sarah, and they are supposedly still together...so that is their one under the radar success story!
MerBear
I thought I read somewhere (not TWOP) that Charlie and Sarah had broken up....
Whataconcept
Yes, I read that, too, MerBear. It was pretty recently.
sbwm
Mary's 40th birthday was also the same day as the ATRC taping. Imagine - the taping, her birthday then a few days later watching the episode over drinks...turning 40 doesn't have to suck but poor Mary - no babies and no ring. All that fishing and she still doesn't seem to have what she most desired.
idledandy
Yes, Sarah and Charlie are broken up. At first I heard they broke up last year. Then I heard they broke up two months ago. Either way, they're toast.

They were one of the ones that upset me, because I thought they'd make it. Meredith/Ian and Andrew/Jen were the other ones I really thought would go the distance. Oh well. I still feel like those were the ones who picked the right person and really intended to stay together, as opposed to the many you knew right away never stood a chance (Alex/Amanda, Jesse/Jessica, Travis/Sarah, Lorenzo/Jen.)
MerBear
In the history of this show, I think the two worst final pairs were Alex/Amanda and especially, especially Lorenzo and Jen.

So sorry for Mary Delgado -- her face is plastered EVERYWHERE right now. I never thought she and Byron were a match for the ages, even from the end of their season, but I'm sorry it has come to this.
yellowrosetexas

If you google Mary Delgado arrest, it's a looooooong list of appearances for Mary the Unfortunate Bachelorette. It was also on the AOL homepage. Yikes.

Walter Scott's "Personality Parade" column in yesterday's paper had an update on Andy & Tessa. He said they broke up because he is being deployed overseas, but Andy still loves her.
Whataconcept
He's being sent to Bahrain, isn't he? I don't know the full story, but it seems like kind of a crappy reason to break up, if you are still in love. I mean, he is a military man, what do you expect? I think it is telling that it said, "he still loves her."

It would be interesting to know if Mary had any prior arrests, like for DUI. I'm sure it will come out eventually, on The Smoking Gun or something.

What about the photos with his ex-girlfriend? Andy was getting quite cozy with her in full paparazzi view.
