Dexter is called to the scene of the crime at the Castillo junkyard. The Ice Truck Killer has returned Valerie Castillo's body putting Dexter in danger of being caught. A boy is found who witnessed the crime.
Excellent episode. It really made me fear for Dexter and kept me on the edge of my seat until the last moment. Discuss.

The ITK dove to retrieve the body, and set it up in the junkyard. Way to be overly dedicated to your mission. I mean I was suprised as Dexter, if not more. I liked (I don't remember the exact quote) Masuka declaring the killer a professional and Dexter's proud smile at that revelation. It was like "finally someone acknowledges me"!

There was a point in this episode where I thought that someone was going to notice that Dexter totally freaked and ran whenever the kid was in the same room. Ah, but we're talking about cops that can't see past their pet theories.
But you know, Mr. S., I didn't even notice that Dark Dex didn't even play this ep until you pointed it out...

I kinda wish the kid had stayed. I mean LaGuerta actually cared about him. And you just know he'd fall for Dex. We could have had fun with that.

Wow, best episode yet! Those Emmy people were craaazier than Dex for not nominating this series. The writing is razor sharp - "An American - just like me." :D Ha ha! Loved that scene with LaGuerta wondering if it would be a good idea to adopt a kid from a crime scene and Deb assuring her that Dex turned out a-okay. And Deb visiting Doakes' family - MCH really carries this series but the other characters are strong enough that they can carry scenes off by themselves.
I have a feeling the cute little Cuban kid might come back into the story in future seasons. In this episode, he was a traumatized seven year old who saw some guy "make the bad lady go to sleep" - from his perspective, he didn't see Dex do anything terribly violent, and interpreted the situation as a heavenly intervention. But as he grows up and maybe learns that Valerie Castillo was murdered in a violent manner (the cops were unlikely to have told him many details, but he could read about the case when he's older) he might realize that guy probably wasn't Jesus after all...then the question is, does he come forward? Dex may think he got away with it, but the kid still exists and he isn't likely to ever forget "Jesus"'s face...

Is that a response to my speculation? :D
After "Shrink Wrap," which I just saw, I'm even more convinced that that will happen because the Cuban kid's experience is parallel to Dexter's...see that thread for what I mean...

Have you ever remembered moving something, but then it turns out you didn't move it at all, or someone moved it back? Dexter has.
I love this episode because it blew both my and Dexter's mind. Of all the things that could go wrong with one of his murders, the body returning to where it was killed is so far beyond the scope of reason that it never would have occurred to either of us. Its so far beyond the expected that when it happens, it feels like someone supernatural is screwing with you.

The ending of this ep - with the music playing during Dexter's VO at Astor's party was just so (I want to say 'sweet' and 'charming' but will settle for) hopeful.
We (and this may just be wishful thinking on the part of the viewer) see what may be the beginning of Dex realizing some human emotion and connection. Not only in his statement that "my days are numbered...I should make the most of them" [excuse the poor paraphrasing] but also in his reversal of his position on birthdays.
One of the many times when the music in and for the show has helped set character and move the story forward (without being heavy handed about it - the "American Beauty piano" music notwithstanding).
Very nice composition (both musically and visually and also emotionally).

All the other eps are great but this one was very interesting. I knew it when even in voiceover, he scolded himself to focus as he started thinking if Rita and the kids would like to ride on the boat. I love the juxtapositioning of Deb and Dexter -- how the very first real "policing" is the one that Dexter undermines. Also, I find the whiny hypocrisy of Deb very irritating -- who kept using Dexter's ideas to move ahead -- yet gets mad when he doesn't back her up. Please.

It is apparent that Dexter was totally unprepared for this, which is unusual for him, when he attempts to make these lame attempts at redirecting the forensics evidence to lead away from him. "Needle mark? Nah. Looks like a bug bite to me."

LOL -- Sorta like the little doggie who
dug up his deceased kitty "best friend" & returned him to their basket!
Did the forensics crew notice that Valerie had been submerged in sea water for a time? I know she was wrapped in plastic, but
something had to seep in! Dexter even said he didn't do too good of a job of packaging her 'cause he was pressed for time. And speaking of sea water, what happened to the bodies in the bilges of Jorge's boat? The cops searched his boat -- were they still there, or did Jorge dump them on the last trip out?

WTF??
I programmed my DVR to record this episode of Dexter on CBS, but instead got a Cold Case rerun. The Comcast TV listings say "Dexter". Did this happen to anyone else?

I think March Madness really over ran it's time. I tuned in at 10:00 to watch Dexter and there was Cold Case. Luckily, I had time to reset my DVR.

Yeah, March Madness. It started almost a full hour late. It's like the Amazing Race all over again, stupid CBS. I got a kick out of Jesus making an Easter appearance though. And the edited dinner conversation was just so silly. I wish Doakes was nicer to his family...

ARG! I just got a chance to watch my tape of this & missed the last 10 minutes or so. I set the VCR to tape an extra 40 minutes but that wasn't enough! (now it's set to tape an extra HOUR & 40 minutes). Can anybody sum up the last 10 minutes? What happened with the little Cuban boy & at the birthday party? Thanks!

I felt sorry for Deb in this episode. Not only was she right all along (OK, if she actually discovered the murderer, she'd wish she wasn't), but Doakes actually seemed to be listening to her. Though she didn't help herself by deliberately embarassing him in front of his family (and I loved his sister saying his first words were "Got milk, mother****er!") - wait until you've been on Homicide a while before scoring points off your partner. But I guess that's Deb all over. And at least the guy that Dex framed was, in fact, a murderer (just not of his wife), so the cops won't be looking for an innocent man (not that they'll find him).
The reveal of the picture went on too long and there was no way they'd simply have let Dex see it had it been him. Not that they'd necessarily arrest him for it, but they'd certainly pull him in for immediate questioning (though given the incompetence the police have shown so far - 20% clear up rate for murder and all that - maybe they wouldn't).

Yup, they probably wouldn't have shown him it.
I had this feeling about the kid... this might sound crazy... but that the kid actually saw Dexter but didn't want to turn him in. Kind of as a "thank you" for killing Valerie Castillo (sp?). I dunno, just a theory. He thought of Jesus instead, I guess.
This episode really did have some great lines ("Her ex-husband was a crackhead and her boyfriend's a serial killer. Kind of hard not to take that personally."). And I have to agree the Doakes-Deb scene was awesome... way to piss off your partner, though.
