Anyone know what song CW is using in the promos with the "six lost souls" trying to find their way or something along those lines?
Taltos19
"Something To Believe In" by Aqualung (assuming you mean the one on the main CW GG page
Hallelujah
Yep, that's it. Thanks, Taltos.

I have to say that I was pretty underwhelmed by the music choices. I guess it comes with the territory (parties, etc.), but I prefer OC-type music choices better. I'm pretty sure Alex Patsavas is the music supervisor for this show. She was awesome on The OC; I hope she can introduce fans to new music for GG.
Taltos19
Yes, she is. She has been quote as saying ""What 'The OC' did for indie rock, we'd like 'Gossip Girl' to do for pop" (source)
Hallelujah
I felt like all the artists were well known. I listen to indie rock, and even I recognized pretty much all the songs.
MethodActor05
I really liked that they used Young Folks.

Honestly, I like that they mix in the Top 40 stuff as well...it really makes you feel the contemporary feeling of the show. Like, these are songs that I'm hearing at parties right now.
nothingforjuice
I think "Young Folks" is going to be the new "Mambo Number 5" in terms of being over-licensed. It's going to be used in every show this fall.
RedHotRevolver
Any other Air fans get excited as I did when "Photograph" played when Chuck tried to pull shit on Serena, and Nate confessed to Blair?
SomethingYellow
I trust Alexandra Patsavas 100%. The music for the pilot was flawlessly chosen. From the contemporary famous songs (such as What Goes Around/Comes Around which I think perfectly fit the wealthy, full of betrayals and tensions, sexually charged mood of the show), the sophisticated cocktail party music (Air) to the classical music (Vivaldi's Concerto in G was probably a reference to Sofia Coppola's decadent Marie Antoinette, which featured the same song).
wanderklutz
Anyone else thrilled over the the use of "Hang Me Up to Dry?" during the Nate and Blair make-up sushi scene? I adore the CWK and am glad to see them getting more mainstream exposure beyond being the darlings of indie bloggers. If you haven't heard much of them, I highly recommend "St. John" and "We Used to Vacation."
Nocturne

I agree, Hallelujah. The funny thing was watching this with my friends last night. Every time a song would come on I'd be like "I love this song!" and/or "I have that CD!" Even funnier, I have a huge crate next to the tv with all of my CDs in it. Once it was over, they were laughing and pulling out my CDs saying things like, "Okay, now which one was on that episode/that commercial in between?" Fun stuff!
Taltos19
The CW has put up a music page and they actually *gasp* list all the songs for the pilot. There's also an interview with Alexadra Patsavas.
You can see it here.
Halo
Anyone else thrilled over the the use of "Hang Me Up to Dry?" during the Nate and Blair make-up sushi scene?

I am. "Hang Me Up to Dry" has been my ringtone for a couple of months now. Cold War Kids are criminally underexposed, so getting on a CW show is a nice boost for them. It's a great band.
TWoP Bayliss
Man, aren't they great? If it weren't for the Bravery -- my favorite band after the Killers for at least the last four years -- this would be my favorite clip.
PepSinger
They should totally play a song from The Killers. That'd be awesome.

I've never heard of Cold War Kids, but I really liked their song.
wanderklutz
PepSinger, if you liked Hang Me Up to Dry, you will love the rest of the tracks from "Robbers and Cowards." I'm excited for all the CWK love. I saw them live a couple months ago with Tokyo Police Club (meh) and they were fantastic.
SassandtheCity
I liked most of the music choices so far on the show. I really wonder what the theme song is going to sound like. In my own, crazy alternative universe where this show has good ratings, I would make the theme song be The Cure's Lovecats.
Cherrysakura5
I will speak on behalf of the entire nation of people who are going crazy trying to figure out these two songs from the old promos.

This is the song Serena, Dan, and Jenny have:

Does anyone have any indie bands you'd like to see featured on GG?

There's this one band, called Da Bears, that I would to see get featured. I don't even think they're signed, but god, they're good. They're on myspace, if you wanna hear their stuff.

I get the feeling though that their stuff would have fit more with Veronica Mars or the O.C., as they are a SoCal band so they have more of that feel.
wanderklutz
Oh good question, MethodActor. I'm not certain - I think most of the stuff I listen to is insufficiently angsty for this melodrama. For example, I've been listening to "The Wombats" like crazy for the last week and a half, but somehow I don't see Blair and Serena having a catfight to "Let's Dance to Joy Division!" Although, on second thought, wouldn't that be awesome?
SassandtheCity
I'd really love if they played Dragonette's I Get Around at some point with Serena and/or Chuck is on the screen. I was really surprised that they didn't play Rehab at some point during the pilot episode. I'd also die if they used Calvin Harris' "The Girls" when Nate or Chuck is on screen at some point. Nothing like comedy through good music choices.
GluedToTheTube
Just popping in to say "Woo Hoo! Hanson!!!!"

(Couldn't believe it when I heard it! Squee!)
likeelectric
I would LOVE to see the Virgins' Rich Girls. I think it would fit in well.
TWoP Bayliss
Sass: I've been wishing "I Get Around" would make it on the show for months now. It's such a great pick.

1. Hit Me Up - Gia Farrell. Brunch preparation.
2. Stick With Me, Kid - The Broken Remotes. Jenny & Dan discuss Chuck.
3. Shut Up & Drive - Rihanna. Phone montage; repeats when Lily accuses Dan of eavesdropping & during the group confrontation.
4. When Did Your Heart Go Missing - Rooney. Serena & her mom talk.
5. Brandenberg Concerto No.3 in G Major BWV 1048: I. Allegro - Bach. Dan & Nate both go looking for Serena.
6. The Ballad Of Gus & Sam - Ferraby Lionheart. Dan invites Serena to brunch.
7. Tell Me 'Bout It - Joss Stone. Dan & Serena arrive at the brunch.
8. The Queen & I - Gym Class Heroes. Chuck is critized by his dad, then gives Blair a suggestion.
9. Believe - The Bravery. End montage.

I was pleasantly surprised by this also. It's good to see them get some airplay even if it's on the CW.

I want Alex Patsavas (is that how it's spelt...?) to stock my iTunes library.
Hallelujah
I see Josh still has the Rooney love.

I loved The Bravery at the end of the episode. This episode was much better musically than the Pilot, IMO.
SassandtheCity
The only thing that pulled me out of the episode was the continued use of Shut Up and Drive throughout the brunch sequence. It just didn't fit or something.
Hallelujah
I agree. I kept getting distracted when it was playing at the brunch. I don't know - may it was playing too loudly or something. It didn't fit. I don't know if AP feels an obligation to play a Top 40 single every episode, because this episode worked so much better with the rock music than it did with the hip hop.
whereismycastle
and then this awesome Hanson song is playing, and Rufus is making fun of Dan for showing up so early.

I had to go back and re-read this sentence and its context a few times before I realized it wasn't sarcasm. I can't tell you how effing happy this makes me....As a fan for 10 years, I'm so glad they're being recognized, and as something more than 'those girls who sang MMMBOP'. Jacob, you're awesome!
hellosunshine24
It just didn't fit or something.

I agree. I feel like the Top 40 songs should be reserved for the parties only, because they just don't fit when the characters are, for example, eating brunch or having an argument. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Shut Up and Drive, but I just didn't like how they kept playing it. I did love the rock songs they used this episode, though!
Hallelujah

ITA. AP gets hundreds of samples every week. Doesn't she listen to one that sounds more mature than Rihanna? Sorry, but "Shut Up and Drive" and Upper East Side Sunday brunch just do not mix in my book.
SassandtheCity
You know what the Blair and Nate relationship is begging for? Kate Nash's "Foundations" to be played while Nate looks longingly at Serena and Blair dies a little on the inside.
Siren17
Does anyone know what the song was that they played during the preparing for the brunch?
TWoP Bayliss
"Hit Me Up," Gia Farrell. For some reason this thread keeps changing shape, but Taltos19 has been doing a fabulous job of listing all the cues for each episode. Refresh the page a couple of times and see if you can't reveal those -- there should be around 40 posts in this thread, but sometimes it's only showing the ones from just after the episode aired last night. How annoying!
Taltos19
TWoP Bayliss would it help if I moved all the music lists to post #2 so people don't have to look for them, or would continually altering an early post screw things up more?
TWoP Bayliss
No, it's just glitchy -- and those wouldn't show up either when it's glitching, and I'm sure it's just a server issue. Hell, it could be resolved already, for all I know. No need to do anything -- but keep doing the cue lists! I love it!
Replay
Honestly, I couldn't get passed the first five minutes of this show. But I thought "Young Folks" playing while the girl was on the subway with a melancholy expression on her face was quite random. The song was too upbeat for that moment.
SassandtheCity
I heard Hilary Duff's "Stranger" recently and thought it'd be a great song for a lot of the characters as well the Duff's song "Dignity", especially for an opening or closing montage.
TWoP Bayliss
"Break" by Cinematics would be pretty awesome, as well as the Postal Service remix of Feist's "Mushaboom" or any of Snowden's cover songs.
Butterfly202

ITA - that song describes them perfectly.

I also thought that Shut Up and Drive didn't work. I did think that Believe worked brilliantly though. It all seems a bit hit and miss at the moment with the music.
Aludra
9. Believe - The Bravery. End montage.

I've seen these guys live about four times now (#5 in a couple weeks!) and I'm delighted they're getting finally getting television play. "Believe" is my favourite off their second album but I'd love to hear them continue their 2/2 streak with "Above and Below" or "Bad Sun".
spring90
Song I'd like to hear on GG?

The Last Page - Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton

I'm not sure exactly where it would fit in, But I was listening to it the other night, started thinking about Gossip Girl *coughThescenewhendan'sgettingreadyforhisdatecough*, and how alot of Emily Haines' stuff would fit in well with some scenes.

Sorry, but I'm horrible at articulating myself. It's also not really distracting and something that's not overplayed on the radio everywhere (Shut Up And Drive)

I did like that they included The Bravery, though
CaliforniaSun
I loved The Bravery at the end of the episode. Such a perfect fit. I had never heard the song before, and now I'm listening to it constantly.
loseresque
Me too. I even bought their whole 2nd album off Itunes on the strength of this song alone. I am enjoying it a great deal. Between this and Grey's (if she's still responsible for that show's music), I really will be Alex's bitch.

I didn't mind the inclusion of Rihanna - this show sort of works for me in terms of using top 40 music. I also liked the inclusion of JT lin the pilot and 9 minute promo. It sort of makes me feel less musically challenged because I actually like a few of the songs/artists in the top 40. That said, I don't know if Shut Up and Drive was used appropriately - it kept popping up and was distracting me for that reason alone.
SassandtheCity
I just heard Believe in a promo for Friday Night Lights; apparently it's THE song of low rated teen-centric shows this year.
