It's so bright over here, I feel like I need some Nicole Ritchie shades.

I am so glad that this show is being recapped! I loved the books, and I hope the show lives up to them!
marysue22
I'm certainly going to watch. In all honesty, I first picked up one of the books after I'd heard that the show was coming to television.
quietone
What can I say? I'm in the mood for teen drama even though I'm well past the age group.

Shhh.....don't tell anybody. OK??
loseresque
This and Top Model are totally my guilty pleasure shows for this year. I think I'll make them my gym shows.

I miss the triviality of the teenage show, such as 90210 or OC. Sometimes I just want to watch the show and not over analyze it (though I know there are ways to) like I would have to for something like Lost. I just want to react - I hate BLANK, I loved BLANK. That person is hot, that person is fug. I think this show may work well in that capacity.
Hallelujah
I'm really excited for this show. And ANTM, just like you loseresque! I haven't had any show to really watch since The OC ended in February, and I hope that Josh does well with this series, and with Chuck. I'm rooting for him and for this show.
minneapple
This is so going to help fill the Gilmore Girls void for me. Not only are the initials the same, the forum is also pink!

I'm well past the age group.

Oh yeah. I'm completely addicted to these shows despite the fact that I've been out of the CW's target demo for ahem, let's just say a few years now.

I'm so out of the age range, that I couldn't read the books in public. That said, I am so looking forward to this show.

Minneapple, I've been away from TWoP for a few days, and when I came back tonight to see the new Gossip Girl forums debut, I had the exact same reaction you did (and to make it even weirder, I was listening to a rock band---Gentle Giant---with those exact same initials as I first saw the new forums!). Also, both shows have/had the word "girl" in their titles. OK, so one show uses a singular version of the word and the other used the plural counterpart....but still!

Hopefully, this is a sign that this new "GG" show will have a long multiyear run just like the old one did.

I enjoyed ABC Family's new college dramedy Greek, especially the Casey vs. Rebecca/Frannie storylines. What can I say, I'm one of those guys who can enjoy attractive women getting catty on each other, provided that the conflict is written/presented well enough. So I'm hoping that Serena vs. Blair can fill the bitchfest void between Greek "semesters".
I'm also looking forward to the NYC locations too.

And of course Quietone summed me up too with this:

What can I say? I'm in the mood for teen drama even though I'm well past the age group.

Shhh.....don't tell anybody. OK??

Also don't tell that I like the much maligned "progressive/prog" rock genre (a genre I'm very confident no one in this show's target audience has ever heard of, much less likes).

Oops, my username kind of gives that dirty little secret away.

Regardless, at least I'm in for this show.
JerseyGirl291
Aw, yesman, I'm going to miss Greek so much too! Especially the Cappie stuff... :D January isn't too far away!

Hi, guys! I'm JerseyGirl, most recently found in Buffy/Angel forums, though I did just give a long intro over in the Reaper MM, so I guess I'll be spending time there and here and over on Pushing Daisies when that opens up. I'm excited for this show, even though as a reader of the books, I don't think Chase Crawford is cute enough to be playing Nate, which makes me feel bad, because he is extremely cute!

Is this forum the same color as the VM one? It's pink over here!
blankmixtape
The VM forum is a warmer shade of pink.
tennyoaisu
I'm Valerie, and I admit that I have read the entire series of GG, and am currently reading the It Girl sequels. I love the books because they're pure fluff--no intelligence required. :D I can finish one in just over an hour.

Looking forward to the show, though I'm not familiar with any of the actors/actresses.
Sunshine Lover
Hi I'm Sara. I've never read the books but I plan on watching the show.
Maybe if I like the show, I will give the books a try.

It's ok your secret is safe with me. I too am out of the target age group ;). I cannot wait for this show - what can i say i love my teen dramas. I still miss the OC and i love OTH. I used to watch Smallville too and i'm old enough to remember BH's 90210.

The promo's for this look good - i cannot wait for Sept 19th - that's when the shows debuts right?

BTW i have started reading the books - currently up to book three...
River Run
I'm hoping this GG will fulfill the void that I'm feeling at the loss of the other GG.

I've attempted to read the first book, but wanted to slap almost all the characters, so I had to stop. Instead, I gave it to my library, where it hasn't been checked in since. I've had to buy all the other books as well.

Fortunatley, I didn't have that reaction form the pilot on iTunes and can't wait for episode two.
Kait1987
How funny to find all these folks heading over to this GG to fill the void filled by the other GG. I'm really excited about Gossip Girls. I adore Blake Lively and think she's a wonderful actress, so I can't wait to see where this role takes her.
Lila82
I'll be playing here too, although "Gossip Girl" is filling the various teen soap voids for me. But you know, with good writing, great acting, sharp dialogue, and great clothes. I'm really looking forward to this show -- other than "Pushing Daisies," it's the only new show I'm looking forward to this season.

yesman6764, I also adored "Greek" and am very excited to have GG to tide me over until the second season in '08. I haven't read the books, except a brief excerpt of the most recent one, but I got all I needed to know about the Blair/Serena rivalry. This is shaping up to be a great show!
emma675
I'm so out of the age range, that I couldn't read the books in public. That said, I am so looking forward to this show.
Ditto. I checked out the books from the library and I felt like wearing a scarf and giant sunglasses every time I checked them out. But they are fun fluff and I couldn't stop!
hellosunshine24
Hi, I'm hellosunshine, and I'm obsessed with all the Gossip Girl books and all the It Girl books. I've read every single one, and I am so freaking excited for the show to debut. A group of us are actually having a GG party Wednesday.. we're all way, way too excited. I am a huge fan of Josh Schwartz and of The OC, so I'm really excited to see what direction they go in with the show. Yay!
JerseyGirl291
Hi everyone! *waves*

I've read a bunch of these books, but I stopped around the time that they all got into college, I don't know what book that was. I'm in the target demo, though, (a senior in high school), and I think I just got bored with reading them, even though I really enjoyed a bunch of them?

I too miss the other GG but am definitely not looking to fill that spot with this. If anything, "Gossip Girl" will take the place of "The OC," the show that I miss desperately since it left in February, even though I hate nothing more than its middle two seasons.
Miss Daisy
I don't think this will be a replacement for the other GG for me. This could be the most stellar show ever but...Luke! Emily! Maybe if Lauren Graham had a role on this GG, I would be able to let go.
bonjourananas
Hey there - I haven't read any of the GG books (I didn't know there were books until recently), but I do love prime time teen dramas/soaps. If it can live up to the earlier seasons of The OC, I'll be happy. And it's my Kristen Bell fix for the time being (as the voice of GG).
billiebutton
I have a secret love of Teen Lit. Even when I was well over the age of reading this stuff I would often find myself browsing the "young adult" section in the library and Chapters. I've always wanted to read these books but, never got around to renting/buying them. I have to admit I'm pretty excited about this show. I always get sucked in by teen dramas (I even watched Life As We Know It). I didn't get to watch the entire episode tonight but, I was super excited about the fact that there were "ethnics" on the show. The Dawson's Creek thread on here was just classic. I'm looking forward to reading people's opinions on Gossip Girl and, who knows I may even actually post instead of just lurk.
violetion
I'm watching purely for Josh Schwartz and my love for fictional privileged teenagers. This show isn't filling the void for anything in particular (even though I do miss The OC dearly) and I haven't read any of the books, so hopefully it won't be too hard to get into. Looking forward to some good times on these forums and the show!
RoxieVelma
I'm actually glad I came over to this forum just now because I totally forgot the pilot was coming on tonight.
moemac

It's funny that you say that. I set my DVR a few days ago and I forgot about it. I was out late last night. When I got home, I checked my DVR (to see if it recorded another show) and GG showed up. I haven't watched it yet, though.
shy1215
Hi All!

I too am over the target demographic, however, I just can't get enough of those teen dramas. I loved Dawson's Creek, 90210 and The OC. I watch Greek this summer and loved it. This will definitely be my guilty pleasure.

I didn't even know there were books. I will have to run right out to the library and get them.
uncommonwoman
Woo and hoo for being well above the target age group. I feel like I need to be reciting my name and that I am a TeenTVaholic. I get teased endlessly by my partner and most of my friends for my habit. But sometimes you just need some mindless ridiculous fun. And I agree with everyone that strong witty writing is the key to enjoying it all.
supri
Hi! supri here and I am a teen drama addict despite the fact that I am well out of the demographic range (forgotten bands of the '90s rock!)

I don't think this will quite fill the shoes of Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars for me (but yay, Kristen! and 2nd on the request for Lauren Graham to show up!) ... but it will the void between America's Next Top Model and Top Chef quite nicely indeed, and also the void left when The Best Years and South of Nowhere end their seasons. Yes, I watch cheesy cable teen drama too!

I also loved Blake Lively in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, so I hope she does well here!

RoxieVelma, nice to see another Wire fan up in here ;)
uncommonwoman
Oh cheesy cable teen drama is a must. South of Nowhere, Instant Star, and Degrassi are definitely on my regular viewing list.

And I must agree with loving Blake in Sisterhood.... She's the entire reason I jumped on this.
Moonlighter
Hi everyone. People on TWoP generally call me Moon or Moony. It's a tribute to the HoYay-filled relationship between Ephram Brown and Bright Abbott, not the Bruce and Cybil show, nor is it connected to that new show on CBS about vampires.
I'm really looking forward to this show -- other than "Pushing Daisies," it's the only new show I'm looking forward to this season.
I'm watching plenty of new shows (gotta find the one to fill VMars' slot!) even though I have three night classes, but this I agree with. "Pushing Daisies" looks amazing. I totally wasn't expecting to like this show, but I downloaded it when it was a free iTunes download that one day and, well, gosh darn it. With the editing on the past Nate/Serena and the present Nate/Blair and Chuck/Serena, it made me a fan. Perhaps it's because I have an eye for that kind of thing now thanks to intro to film last semester and intro to video production this semester. I'm totally thinking of adding a film studies minor to my computer information systems major even if it does push back my graduation date. I recently took a livejournal meme about careers and my #1 was a DP. I can only aspire to be the next Victor Hammer.

Oh and I'm one of the others who hasn't read the books.

Also, why oh why is Taylor Momsen so gorgeous for being 14? It's not fair! And the fact she was Cindy Lou Who just seven years ago creeps me out. I'm 20, she is too young for me to be attracted to her!
liz26111
Hi everyone. Most people just call me liz.

I am so out of the age range for the books but I have read all of them. I love them. I am even reading the spin off series. I read them on the subway on my way too long of a commute to my annoying job. Anyone from the VM or Gilmore Girls board know what I am talking about.

I totally wasn't expecting to like this show, but I downloaded it when it was a free iTunes download that one day and, well, gosh darn it.

Hi, moony. And when did you find it? Has it before or after Wednesday? I tried to find it but could not.
Moonlighter
when did you find it?
I think it was over the weekend, liz. Nice to see a familiar face (rather, handle) :)
hellosunshine24
Ugh. So I've been home sick the past few days, and I'm really not looking forward to the tons of make-up work I'll be receiving come Monday. That's really going to suck.

Does anyone read The A-List series? I'm just starting the newest book in the series, Beautiful Stranger. For those who don't know, they're similar to the Gossip Girl book series but take place in LA. And they're written a lot better.
Moonlighter
Ugh, I'm sorry you've been sick, sunshine.

Nope, don't read The A-List series. One of them mentioned Alona Tal though, right? I think I remember reading that somewhere.
hellosunshine24
I'm not sure if one of them mentioned Alona Tal. Who exactly is she? Didn't she do something on VM, and if so, what did she do?
likeelectric
Alona Tal played Veronica's friend and Duncan's girlfriend, Meg. She went into a coma following the bus crash in the S2 premiere and died later that season.
hellosunshine24
Ohhh, okay, now I know who that is.

I'm really excited for the season premiere of Heroes on Monday! And Chuck comes out on Monday, too! I wasn't planning on watching it, but I changed my mind.. heh.
Moonlighter
I wasn't planning on watching it, but I changed my mind.. heh.
Hee. I did so many changes of my schedule, but I've settled on Monday being NBC night (I'm a huge sucker for time travel so that's why I'm watching Journeyman, Chuck is for the hot blonde, and Heroes 'cause I've been watching it since the fall hiatus), Wednesday being ABC night (YAY for Pushing Daisies, my friend Bre suckered me into watching the spinoff ep for Grey's even though I hadn't seen the show since season 1 was over and I liked so I'm watching Private Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money because I hear it has an Arrested Development-ish vibe and there's Greg Berlanti as a creative force and starring gorgeous Samaire Armstrong), Friday being Women's Murder Club (Mum is a huge fan of the books) and Numb3rs (though I kinda slacked on that during season 2 because my roommate my first year of college had her boyfriend over during the weekend a lot and he was so obnoxious), and Saturday being Torchwood (because yay I realised I have BBC America at school!). Gossip Girl will be downloaded via iTunes or streamed from the CW site, whatever works.

And actually, the Monday NBC and Wednesday ABC will be on somewhat of a delay as well because I have night classes from 7 to 9:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays this semester. But thankfully, I only have the night class on Tuesday and no classes at all on Thursday so I can catch up pretty quickly :)
shy1215
I thought my TV scheduling was a nightmare! Thank God for the DVR and TiVo so that I can just tape everything and watch as I want!
Moonlighter
That's nice, shy. I tried convincing my mum to invest in TiVo, but it didn't quite work.
likeelectric
I just got satellite in my room and to keep my shows in order I've made up a schedule.
My fall shows are:
Mon- HIMYM/Chuck/Heroes
Tue- Bones/Reaper/House
Wed- ANTM/Pushing Daisies/GG/Dirty Sexy Money
Thu- Ugly Betty/CSI
Fri- Moonlight/Women's Murder Club

I can't watch Dirty Sexy Money or Reaper so I will be reading the recaps! I also will be flipping occasionally to Private Practice becuase I love Chris Lowell and I miss Piz!
bonjourananas
Oh cheesy cable teen drama is a must. South of Nowhere, Instant Star, and Degrassi are definitely on my regular viewing list.

Ditto on that. I love the cheesy teen drama. The more fromage the better. The Best Years was so horribly terrific. I've even caught myself watching re-runs of a series on late night cable called Higher Ground - and loving that it starred Anakin Skywalker and JJ from Criminal Minds.

I'm in serious need of a DVR this year (so far, no go with convincing my husband on the added expense), because I'm really having trouble keeping my fall shows in order and there are a few that overlap (I HATE when they do that). Especially since I usually watch Grey's Anatomy at a friend's house (although, not sure how long we're going to stick with that - I just don't feel the vibe this season). I think I need to make myself a schedule similar to likeelectric's (although, the premieres were all put into my iCal).

And I'm definitely going to be checking out the Piz factor on Private Practice. I like that he can now be the series hunk/eye candy - because for me, through no fault of his own, he was second fiddle to Logan on VM. And on this show, shirtless surfer Piz is written into the show.

p.s. I haven't been around TWoP to have a shorter version of my username, but from using it in various non-TWoP contexts, folks have taken to calling me pineapples or p'apples (just in case some of you don't speak french, my username is french for "hello pineapple").

(Ed. because I accidentally used quotes instead of italics. I may need more coffee to function today).
Moonlighter
South of Nowhere is the only show I watch on The N. I don't have the channel so I am very grateful for the Click.

Also I'm glad you posted, p'apples. I'm quite unused to the Meet Markets being dead for several days at a time. I guess being a part of the VM4 (Veronica Mars Meet Market Mafia) will do that to most people, heh.
shy1215
I agree Moonlighter. I'm usually over at the 24MM and it is never dead!
bonjourananas
I'm new to the whole meet market thing. By the time I joined the VM boards, it was third season and I was still trying to figure out how these boards work.
hellosunshine24
I recorded Private Practice while I watched Gossip Girl, and while I'm curious to see how it is, I don't really feel like going and watching it right now.

I hope that the reason this board is so slow tonight isn't because everyone watched Private Practice instead =[
marysue22
I watched a bit of Private Practice and I wasn't terribly impressed. Maybe it's one of the shows I'll have to keep watching to get interested in?
hellosunshine24
I don't think I'm going to watch it tonight. I'm too tired to start it, and I probably won't pay much attention. I'll probably just watch it tomorrow after dance, before I start Grey's Anatomy or something.
