Televisionista has stills and the official episode description of 1.03 'The Italian Banker'.

"The Italian Banker" - Unbeknownst to Tripp, Nick finds himself in full damage control mode when a blackmailer surfaces and demands ransom for a sex tape featuring one of the Darlings. Meanwhile, Patrick is forced to break off his affair with Carmelita (Candis Cayne), plunging him into deep despair; Brian's wife figures out that the "Swedish orphan" (actually Brian Jr.) he brought to live with them speaks English; and Jeremy struggles to keep his assignations with Juliet's archenemy, Natalie (Tamara Feldman), a secret -- but when both women show up at Patrick's Senate campaign fundraiser, a red carpet catfight ensues -- on "Dirty Sexy Money"

I mentioned this in the old forum, but in case any one has just tuned in:
Comcast has a preview/promo for ABC Wednesday on its On Demand feature. Includes an introduction to the characters, and the premise of the show. (I think it was originally created to air locally around the country as a promo during affiliate time, but my local affiliate didn't show it.)

Also, in the past for other shows, I've seen networks promote heavily during a show's timeslot before it airs (ie, a show premiering 9pm Sunday Sept 30th would have heavy promos in that timeslot for 2+ weeks before, to hook viewers that were tuned in at that time) The last couple of weeks ABC has aired NASCAR in Prime Time in that slot. I haven't seen that show so I don't know if ABC has been promo-ing DSM during that timeslot, but I'm trying to imagine how the network would tie-in a promo in that slot. ("If you think that race prize was a lot of money, just wait to you see how much the Darlings have!" or "Behind the scenes of NASCAR racing has lots of drama, just like the drama in the Darling family...only the Darlings are richer and thinner...and wearing designer clothes. " "Sure that driver just messed up his car going around that turn, but just wait until you see how these people mess up their lives!") Do you think there will be lots of cross-over in viewership between the two shows?

Anyone seen how they've been promo'ing it during that time slot?

DSM was promoted heavily during the USC/Nebraska football game last night.

I have a love/hate relationship with this show's advertising. They've been doing some great subliminal stuff on Gawker.com (on the stalker map, there'll be three real celebrities and then one of the Darlings with a brief synopsis), but this show has been all over the NYC subways for about a month now ... it's like I'm sick of it before it's even aired.

There was a new promo(or one I had not seen) at the end of DH tonight... and OMG! It's the best one yet.

I absolutely cannot wait for this! I believe it is now my #1 most anticipated premiere(and that says a lot).

In total I saw 3 promos with DSM tonight(in 2 hours). That one, another that aired right after an ad for Private Practice, and a combo promo with Practice.

I also saw a promo on ESPN(!) during college football last night.

This is interesting - and I believe ABC posted the clips themselves so they're legal - there's two versions of the same scene, one before the re-tool and one after so you can see the changes in tone they're going for.

The new mixed "Wednesday night" promo was fantastic.

Jeremy: We're an ordinary family dude.
Nick: God Jeremy, are you high!?

Following up on some postings in the spoilers and media threads.

It does seem as though this show does not like to keep its secrets festering for months and months, and I find that really refreshing. We get to see the characters dealing with the fallout (like Tripp already challenging Nick about his suspicions and Nick challenging Tripp about his lying in The Italian Banker) instead of having some faux suspense building for weeks and weeks.

The latest example:

In some of the promos posted in the media thread, we (and Lisa) find out that a) Nick proposed to Karen when he was 19 and b) Tripp is confronting Tish about the 40-year affair, and the paternity of her children. On any, well, just about any other show, these confrontations would have been held off for a season or two, or at least until sweeps. As someone said in a previous post…. this show has business to do and it’s not holding back.

On a) The fact that Karen brings this up to Nick in front of Freddy, and Lisa makes me like her character a bit less (especially since both Nick and Lisa try to kill her with their eyes, and she just keeps-a-going)

On b) I love that Tripp is so direct with Tish (though I can’t help but wonder how the affair got by him for so long, and if it didn’t, why he didn’t confront Tish sooner). I’m eager to see her response.

(I didn’t spoiler bar the promo info, since it was from a sneak peek on the ABC promo site – Mods - please let me know if I should have.)

Edited because yar and year aren't really the same thing.

See I'm prone to thinking Nick handled the break up with Karen in a really shitty way (granted as 19 year old boys are wont to do), thus his soft spot for her despite her constantly bringing up their ancient history. That says to me he thinks she has good reason to still be hung up on him, that he created or at least contributed greatly to a situation in which she couldn't ever really have closure. And I like that Karen is self-aware about her bitchiness, I'd never want any of the Darlings to be all sweet and nice, as long as some of that's there and I think Natalie Zea plays the depth and sweetness just enough to work for Karen.

I was just thinking today that perhaps DSM has decided that while it will have a central mystery (Dutch's death) it wants to work more as a series of short stories than a full serial drama. That has the advantage that people can skip an episode or two or even watch out of order and not feel lost. By raising an issue and that resolving it to some extent in a single episode, it should significantly improve its second run ratings. The promos seem to be trying to go that route as well, promising viewers that it doesn't matter if they missed the first few episodes, they won't be lost if they start now.

That this show resolves things so much faster than most shows is a major ingredient of why I love it.

Even the cliffhanger about which of the Tripp children are not Tripp's, given that they telegraphed Brian as one of those, endears it to me. I assume (and hope) there will be some kid other than Brian as well, but the fact that it was not a genuine cliffhanger regarding Brian makes me drool with appreciation. I really hate cheap cliffhanger. I might have liked the most recent episode even better if they had revealed who is not Tripp's kid, but the seeming obviousness of Brian was good.

Now, if it turns out Brian IS Tripp's kid I will take it all back and feel betrayed.

Based on the official sneak peeks for 1.05, we now have the answers to two pending questions:

1. The twins are now 24, with their 25th birthday coming up.
2. Letitia also comes from a wealthy family, as her father left $25 million in trust to each of the 5 Darling children.
Detsl
I was always wondering about that. If Tish really loved Tripp or if she just stayed with him for the security of money. It looks like money is not a problem for her either. And the twins are a bit older than I originally thought.

Thanks TVGuy88, for posting the new sneek peaks. I find the 2nd one to be very intriguing – especially the dynamic between Tish and Tripp (and Nick, for that matter) Interesting, too, that Tish came from money, too. Tripp really shows an impatience with Nick that I’ve not noticed in previous episodes...like his irritation with something else is bubbling over, perhaps? Given how Tish and Tripp are acting, and some of the comments Tripp makes, I’m with detsl on the comments made in this post

As a regular DSM viewer, I enjoyed both of the sneek peaks. However, I’ve got to say, if I wasn’t a fan already, I don’t think these clips would draw me in to sample the show. Personally, if I see clips of characters in a show displaying nothing but restrained aggravation while seated (Tripp and Tish) or immature aggravation while stomping (Juliet and Jeremy), that’s not going to draw me in. (Granted, I saw a lot more going on in those clips…I’m just trying to imagine what someone who’d never seen the show would think)

I think whoever’s choosing the sneak peek clips is doing the show a disservice. Are they thinking people will say “Oh! Donald Sutherland! $2 Million for a birthday party! I’ve got to tune in!”? I’ve got to imagine that there are other clips in this episode that would be more of a hook for new viewers.

Blergh! For some reason, in the last couple of days, I keep losing my connection, or just my posts, right as I'm ready to post them. I think I captured all the things I was originally trying to post, though

We're sharing mind grapes I guess.

I agree with the sneak peeks. I can't see them being all that captivating. I mean, they are for me, because I am completely enamored with the show. But like you said characters sitting talking? the scenes are usually something completely in the story which don't draw in a new viewer who is going "what?"
I did like that one of them was the Darling family entrance because it was a great snipit of each of them with a quick pace.
marty118
I may be confused, but I thought ABC's sneak peeks are only used for the hardcore fans, usually on the official website. They're usually much too long for regular television spots used to draw in new viewers.

The promo which runs during other ABC shows is just the twins and the party and the money. Campy, not tense.

I think just to be fair, ABC should air just as many DSM promos during Desperate Housewives as they do the later in DSM's commercial breaks. My God, if I heard Lynette scream one more damn time about whatever she sees post-tornado...
ImNotLeesa
I agree. I haven't seen very many DSM promos on ABC lately. You'd think since they recently ordered the rest of the season they'd want to encourage more folks to tune in.

The only on-air shows I've heard people report consistently seeing promos in are football games and NASCAR events. While I'm no audience demographic expert, I have no idea what the rationale behind that is. To me, I'd think Brothers & Sisters, Deperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy and even Samatha Who? would be better locations for DSM promos. Anyone see any during those shows lately?

And, kind of related, since studios/networks claim that on-line episodes can be considered 'promos', any ideas why I can buy episodes of Samantha Who? on itunes, but Dirty Sexy Money is nowhere to be found?
Dust Cover
Does anyone know where you can see the promo for this week online? The station didn't show it and ABC.com doesn't appear to have it listed. Any help would be appreciated!

ETA: Nevermind, I found a link in the media thread.
ImNotLeesa
This week’s Desperate Housewives was heavily promoted, and probably got a huge audience. So it was smart of ABC to use it to promote all their other shows.

During the DH episode, I saw:

1 promo for Private Practice
1 promo for a Barbara Walters special
1 promo for Are You Ready to Duel? (really? That’s an actual show?)
1 promo for Cashmere Mafia (airing in January)
3 promos for Samantha Who?, Notes for the Underbelly and October Road *

* which I’m sure were especially valuable for ABC in my local market, since the local affiliate in my area is pre-empting these shows tomorrow for the local NFL football game (they spliced the promo for the local broadcast into the ABC network promos)

But....

zero promos for Dirty Sexy Money (and zero so far during Brothers & Sisters)

Sorry to be a little bitter and sarcastic, but with this, and the cutbacks to the ABC DSM page, it makes me wonder....at this point, is ABC still trying to get people to watch this show? If not, that's a real shame.

ETA: yeah, like RianD just said - also no promos during the Brothers & Sisters wedding episode, just a couple more for Samatha Who?, 1 for Grey's Anatomy, and about 17 for the Mitch Albom movie playing next week. Arrggh!
RianD
I didn't see any during Brothers and Sisters. You'd think with it also being a Berlanti show that that would be a no-brainer to showcase it during that hour, but apparently ABC's promo plan for DSM is to have people simply accidentally stumble upon it.
ImNotLeesa
Not sure how valid the source is, but supposedly DSM will get a promo during tonight's Desperate Housewives season finale.

The latest promo didn't have any new video, and I hadn't seen this posted here yet, so I thought I'd add a link.

This was a promo used for, I think, the launch of DSM in the UK, Youtube Channel 4 Promo

I kind of like it, and think they should use something similar for the relaunch in Sept in the US, since it seems very energetic and physical (which gets lost in the US promos, IMHO...Where's Leticia though?)

And it makes the characters seem fun, this is one of the first times I've really liked Lisa and Simon Elder, and thought they added some energy to the party. Hopefully they can capture this vibe when the series comes back in the fall.

(It's so hard trying to stay unspoiled when there's no new news about the show except for spoilers, so I'm hoping seeing this new (to us) video will help). Anybody see any new, no spoilery, interviews with the cast & crew? If so, post them in the media section.

I'm really looking forward to this show's return!
