I keep thinking that I shouldn't comment on how sad Heidi and Spencer's lives must be, but I must. They are pathetic. They now have no one to hang out with, and while it's great wanting to be with your boyfriend/"fiance," there's got to be some moment of away time from the SO. Can't Heidi see that?

And can't Audrina see that her dealings with JustinBobby can lead to nowhere good?
atlpeach
Okay,

Heidi, you're a BITCH...

There's nothing else I can say...
Baby Girl
I couldn't believe she stole Elodie's job. Just when I thought Heidi couldn't sink any lower.

It's ridiculous that Heidi, a 20 year old with no college education, no work ethic to speak of, and little to no experience, gets an event director position with a freakin office, over Elodie. Like what?

And I thought Heidi's dream was to sing and dance? It's real cold to take an opportunity away from somebody, when you really don't want it. And there's no way Heidi really wanted that job. Not more than Elodie who obviously sees this as a career, not a storyline in their pathetic fake life.
AfroJo
I loved the awkward interaciton in the end between Heidi and Elodie. You could tell Elodie wanted to claw Heidi's eyes out.
Punk Pixie
Does anyone know the name of the song that was playing when LC went to meet up with Jason???
Hello Nicki
When I saw the previews, I actually thought it was edited to make it look like Heidi was going to snake Elodie for the job, but then we'd actually see that she just took the opportunity to ask for Elodie's current position once she got promoted. I was stunned to see her go that low. Poor Elodie.
ninakix
Lauren really isn't into nice guys, is she? She was rolling her eyes at Derek way before he said he wanted to propose to her. Way back at the dinner when he was talking about his .40 cent shirt. So he wasn't the most exciting guy in the world, but she just seemed overly miserable when he was trying to be nice. He was somewhat creepy, but I think was worth a second date.

As far as Heidi goes, Brent probably thought giving her a nicer office might mean he would get even more publicity.
betha
I have to defend Heidi. Heidi is not a bitch and she did not steal "Elodie's job." The job was open, and anyone could apply for it. Heidi had just as much right as Elodie to apply for that job opening. I thought Elodie's weird intimidation play at the beginning ("I've been here a LOT longer than you, and I'm going to apply for this job") wasn't very nice and was intended to keep Heidi from applying.

We also don't know anything about Elodie's work habits or skills. It's possible Brent thinks Heidi will do a better job, or it's also possible Bolthouse wants her in the position because she's got a famous face and that will get them some new clients. Either way, for whatever reason the boss chose Heidi over Elodie. None of these makes Heidi a bitch.

I will say it would have been nice for Heidi to give Elodie a heads-up that she was applying too, but for all we know, she did.
Hallelujah
Just as Heidi walked into her office, I was thinking the same thing: Oh! There's goes another one of your friends, Heidi. Geez, what has Heidi done to deserve that promotion? All she does is talk about Spencer and her "engagement" and play soliataire and stare aimlessly at her computer. (Of course, that is much of the same thing that Lauren does when she works at Teen Vogue, but she's not the one asking for the promotion after a year).

Why do they keep using the same footage of Audrina and JB from the beach/motorcycle ride? This is the third time I've noticed it.

The lack of Spencer this week was awesome.

Loved Lo's dinner with Audrina and Lauren at their apartment. And also loved that Lo asked "Is it your daddy?" when Lauren was talking on her phone. And how convenient that the second question that Audrina asked in that book should be about falling madly in love and getting swept off your feet. Strange how that worked out!

Jason seems reformed in this episode. I know there's lots of talk about his comments about Lauren in the past week, but in this episode, he seemed genuine and a huge step up from what we've previously seen of him.

Regarding the previews for next week's episode, how pathetic can Spencer and Heidi get?

And, regarding the title of this episode, shouldn't it be called "Third Chances"? If MTV is saying that Lauren is giving Jason another chance, well, isn't his third chance, not his second?
MissPinkKate
Do we know how old Elodie is? Because although she looks older than Heidi, do we know for sure that she is? For all we know, she just has a lot of sun damage.
dirtgirl
OK, can't believe I'm saying anything in Heidi's defense, but there's something weird about Elodie's facial mannerisms and speech patterns. It's like she's 12 years old or something. I'm not sure I'd want her out there dealing with clients. At least Heidi appears somewhat polished.

Oh hell, who am I kidding? Brent picked her because clients will want to plan events with her so they can get on TV.

Did Lo move to LA or does she just visit a lot? I'm looking forward to the inevitable Audrina-moves-in-with-JustinBobby and Lauren needs a new roommate so Lo can get more screen time.

ETA: damn Jason is looking hot!
TV Watching
>> He was somewhat creepy, but I think was worth a second date.

No guy that is somewhat creepy is worth a second date! There are enough non-creepy guys out there.
Coco79
Squee! I loved seeing Jason and Lauren together again. My little heart still worships the relationship that was Lauren and Jason, despite all their problems.

I cannot believe what Heidi did! Brent, Brent, Brent. Why in the world would you promote Heidi?!

It's really so sad to see what a pathetic person she's become. I can't believe she undermined Elodie like that. Now Heidi really has no friends there at work!

As much as it pains me to say this, Heidi actually wore a very cute outfit to work. I loved the blue button-down shirt and the pants! And it was work-appropriate and professional, too!

More Whitney, please...
Hallelujah
I'm looking forward to the inevitable Audrina-moves-in-with-JustinBobby and Lauren needs a new roommate so Lo can get more screen time.

If this is how it can/will play out, then I'm looking forward to it, as well. Anything for more Lo moments. She rules every scene she's in.
Hello Nicki
We'll probably never know, betha. But the conspiratorial conversation with Speidi, and Elodie's demeanor in the final scene, really led me to believe that something shady went on.

She had every right to apply for the promotion, sure. And maybe, despite everything we've seen on the show, she was the better candidate. But there's nothing wrong with being collegial about it, either.
AfroJo
We'll probably never know, betha. But the conspiratorial conversation with Speidi, and Elodie's demeanor in the final scene, really led me to believe that something shady went on.

What made it obvious to me about the shadiness was the fact that Heidi repeated a few times that it wasn't personal, just business. The fact that she felt the need to tell Elodie that made it clear she hadn't discussed her applying for the position with Elodie. She tried to diffuse the situation rather poorly instead of acknowledging that she went about it the wrong way. Sure, she had every right to apply for the position, but she went about it totally inappropriately. Elodie, IMO, appeared to be her friend outside of work. So much so that she's one of the first people Heidi runs to when she has something going on in her personal life.
Baby Girl
We also don't know anything about Elodie's work habits or skills. It's possible Heidi will do a better job, or it's also possible Bolthouse wants her in the position because she's got a famous face and that will get them some new clients. Either way, for whatever reason the boss chose Heidi over Elodie. None of these makes Heidi a bitch.

From what it seemed, the job requires actual work and know how. If he just wants her as the "face" of the company, there are other ways of doing that. Plus, it's a shitty move on his part. Way to instill poor morale and disloyalty among your staff, Brent.

I'm sorry but I don't see how Heidi does a better job then Elodie. I just find it baffling and impossible. Elodie obviously sees this as her career. The fact that she didn't get that promotion can really affect her life. It's not a joke. It's not part of some storyline. It's her life. Heidi doesn't want this. She wants to be a "pop star". So why take it away from somebody invariably more qualified and experienced, somebody who wants it more? Because she can. She's a lowlife jerk.

And Brent is an asshole for giving a corner office to a 20 year old fame whore who does nothing but obsess over an creepy boyfriend. If this nets him more publicity I hope it's all negative.
MonyMony
While I applaud Lauren's new found fitness regime, homegirl really needs to invest in a good skin care regime. The wrinkles around her eyes were all I could notice during the double date dinner scene. I thought your skin was supposed to look softer in candlelight?
OK, can't believe I'm saying anything in Heidi's defense, but there's something weird about Elodie's facial mannerisms and speech patterns. It's like she's 12 years old or something. I'm not sure I'd want her out there dealing with clients. At least Heidi appears somewhat polished.
I agree. There could be a lot of reasons she's viewed as not promotable. I don't see how Heidi "stole" Elodie's position. Just because Elodie heard about the opening first and told Heidi about it doesn't mean that she was guaranteed the job. Heck the receptionist might have been interested in it as well. It's not like Heidi badmouthed Elodie or otherwise tried to sabotage her chances. They both went and talked to Brett and he chose the girl with the camera crew.

Yea, no Brody!
carole0708
I get so distracted watching this show by everyones gigantic teeth and out of place looking around.

While I agree that Heidi had every right to apply for the job, it seemed like a might big jump to go from small position that she's been at for a year to event director. Without any type of other experience or degree, or anything, just for being Heidi!

As for her work ethic being questioned, from what the show has led me to believe from last season, when she was reprimanded for personal phone calls and would abruptly get up to go fight with Spencer, it doesn't seem like she has a very good work ethic.

I really want Lo's sunglasses.

Maybe the girls would have better luck with men if they hung out in low key bars in a different part of town. I remember always wondering why during my clubbing days I attracted such douche bags, but it was all location.
APinkDiva
I learned a long time ago that you don't let a random bitch into your world...You don't talk about jobs, your man, or anything near or dear to you because there is always some heifer in the background waiting to get what you have.

I learned that lesson the hard way...It started with a pair of shoes and ended with a man.

Elodie tripped when she told Heidi about the position. She should have kept it to herself. They were never "friends". Heidi had no reason to be loyal to Elodie.
ilovestamos
I have to agree with Betha and say that Heidi didn't do anything wrong. Lots of companies promote from within, with several people in the company applying for the one job. In those instances, the person who gets the job isn't a villain for it. That's just the way things go. Although Elodie was there longer than Heidi, Heidi may be really good at her job. As I learned from watching the Fashionista Diaries, a person who seems like a total idiot in her normal life can be really good at PR and that seems like it is the case with Heidi. (ETA: My mom would be appalled at my atrocious subject-verb agreement.) As much as I dislike Heidi, I'm glad to see that she is somewhat focused on her career. Now if she would only get the rest of her shit together...
ninakix
Heidi doesn't want this. She wants to be a "pop star". So why take it away from somebody inevitably more qualified and experienced, somebody who wants it more? Because she can. She's a lowlife jerk.

And because she gets a shiny new office and her own secretary! And picture frames! And Spencer said she may let her get a rolodex!

No guy that is somewhat creepy is worth a second date! There are enough non-creepy guys out there.

Sorry, I meant more like if what he said seemed a little creepy it could just be nerves or something. He probably didn't mean it the way it came out.
Aut235
The way that Heidi went about that job reminded me of the way things played out last year with the Lauren/Brody/Jen situation. She can't see what she did wrong or won't admit it. Of course the job is open for anyone to apply, but there is a way to go about it without alienating the one friend you have left.

I didn't like creepy trainer dude. How awkward are Lauren's training sessions going to be now. I agreed with Lauren that he was coming off as strange. Also, he kept going on about those 40 cent t-shirts for way too long.

Jason looks nice all cleaned up. Still don't want him with Lauren but it's cool that they can try and be friends.
swankie
Why do they keep using the same footage of Audrina and JB from the beach/motorcycle ride?

I "cracked" up at the shot of Audrina's butt crack as she rides away on Justin-Bobby's motorcycle. I kept thinking, "The crack o' my butt, the crack o' my butt...". Hee
emmavision
Color me short-memoried, but was the conversation between Spencer and Heidi always this stilted and rehearsed-sounding, even back in the beginning of their relationship? That one scene between them was really grating. They both seemed to be speaking through gritted teeth. It was quite distracting.
Exit98
I thought LC was a little snobby with Jersey boy Derek. Maybe he was nervous or whatever. Maybe she could have used the 40 cent shirt conversation to talk fashion or at least give him some tips on where to shop affordably -- didn't LC do a shopping think downtown for a newspaper layout? LC just didn't seem to make much of an effort. Sometimes you can't really get a handle on someone with just one date and you can't tell if you might have things in common. LC said she has only had first dates since Jason. If she gave some of these guys a second chance she might be in a real relationship now. I know she said that she wanted to date like a guy, but her reaction to the date book questions that Audrina was reading makes it seem like she misses being in a relationship. It's so frustrating to see LC, Audrina, even Heidi give second chances to guys who don't deserve it and miss out on potential relashionships that could be good.

And I can't defend Heidi at all. She would not have even known about the job or that she might actually be considered for it if Elodie had not given her the heads up. Heidi took Elodie's reasons for wanting the promotion and passed them off as her own. I think Heidi just wanted her own office and could care less about the job. Aside from any famewhore reasons to promote Heidi instead of Elodie, or just hiring someone from the outside that might actually have more experience being a director of something, this sort of crap happens a lot in office jobs. The kiss-ass or connected person always seems to get promoted over the workhorses or people that are more qualified. This is probably why a lot of people hate their jobs. High school bullshit never seems to end.
betha
Elodie tripped when she told Heidi about the position. She should have kept it to herself. They were never "friends". Heidi had no reason to be loyal to Elodie.

That's true. But I don't feel too bad for Elodie. If she really deserved the promotion, then she could and should find a similar job with another company. Often moving around is the only way to move up, and why would you want to stay at a place that promotes famewhores over you? I bet Elodie sticks around though. I think she likes the cameras too.

I agree that Heidi definitely could have gone about it better. And I think you're right, AfroJo, the final conversation probably did mean that Heidi hadn't talked it over with her before, although it could have also been the strange words that come out of awkward situations. If they didn't have a prior conversation, it would have been a great opportunity to say, "Hey, I should have mentioned to you I really wanted the job too. It's really important to me."
She would not have even known about the job or that she might actually be considered for it if Elodie had not given her the heads up.

It's a small office. I'm sure Elodie wasn't the only way Heidi could have found out about the job. But you're right, finding out that Elodie was not there much longer than her and that she was going to apply likely did affect Heidi's mindset about it.

I thought the 40 cent t-shirt guy's observations were not that boring. It's true, why should t-shirts be $70? But Lauren probably isn't the most receptive audience to this conversation. She'll probably have $70 t-shirts in her line.
swankie
LC just didn't seem to make much of an effort. Sometimes you can't really get a handle on someone with just one date and you can't tell if you might have things in common.

I think she was too distracted by Jason's sudden phone calls to give this guy the time of day.
TOL
Wasn't it just yesterday that Heidi had to be told by the Bolthouse guy to put some clothes on for work (earning him a threatened beatdown from Spencer)? I wonder who had to tell her to start wearing her cute pantsuits?

Heidi is an idiot. There is no way in hell that this waste of space girl could accomplish anything at any company without the weight of MTV's cameras. Bolthouse is as bad as Spencer.
MonyMony
She would not have even known about the job or that she might actually be considered for it if Elodie had not given her the heads up.
That's what I don't buy. Elodie may have been the one who told her about it, as Heidi was walking in no less, but if the Bolthouse office is a typical one, everyone will know about open positions. That's the stuff that gets you through the day, gossiping about who's going to get what promotion and bitching when it isn't you or the people you like.
AfroJo
She'll probably have $70 t-shirts in her line.

OT- But I saw some of her line on some website, and you're very right about the price. She has a shirt in her line that looks so much like something you'd see at American Apparel or Old Navy for almost eighty bucks.
Baby Girl
I thought the date was creepy. I'm sure in Lauren's position, with the cameras and all that, there's alot of icky men trying to come on to her.

I thought Derek was weird and lame and boring and not very interesting to talk to. Life's too short to waste your time on guys like that. It would be one thing if he said a few awkward things, but he seemed to be uber awkward and stalkery the entire time. Maybe he was obsessed with LB and wanted some of that action? It just seemed obvious that they had nothing in common. The fact that he couldn't even pick up socials cues that she wasn't into him is also kinda weird. He had no game. Like sub zero.
Sapienta
Why was Derek acting so weirdly though? I can only surmise that it was because he was nervous, because when they were at the restaurant and he started with the murderer and then ex-GF business, I was like, "Dude!!! STOP!"
MissPinkKate
Yup, been on my fair share of ackward, awful dates. Somethings you have to soldier through!
Auntie Anxiety

Of course the job is open for anyone to apply, but there is a way to go about it without alienating the one friend you have left.

Heidi doesn't have any inkling about anything other than herself and having a turd boyfriend like Spencer around just makes it even more difficult for her to develop empathy and maturity. I mean, he's her moral (or should I say Amoral) compass. The girl doesn't have a clue and he keeps telling her that's it's okay if she screws all her "friends," because she deserves whatever they have or want. What a wonderful guy.
Lamour
Hasn't Heidi worked at Boathouse for about the same length of time as Elodie? Didn't she get this job around the beginning of 1st season?

Anyway, I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, you shouldn't be worried about offending people at work by getting a little competitive. On the other, Elodie has always been very nice and helpful to Heidi. I have a friend at work who is like my own Elodie-- just a bit older mentor/friend type, and I gab and vent to her throughout the day. I would never think to go for a job she told me she was going for that she really wanted, too. I don't know. Maybe that's wrong of me. But it doesn't seem like Heidi was all that career-motivated at Boathouse. And clearly she wasn't, since now she's saying in the press that she's always wanted to sing and be famous. It wasn't a very nice move to grab a job that she knew her work-friend really wanted. Seems Heidi was just interested in the office.
The Evil One
Holy crap, Jason strung together more coherent words in a row than he did in one season of LB and both seasons of the Hills combined! Rehab works!

As for Derek and LC...hey, sometimes you hit it off with people and sometimes you don't. It doesn't make LC a bad person. Plus, her obvious pain and her line in the bathroom about wanting to stab herself in the eye made me laugh.

As for Elodie and Heidi, on one hand, in a "normal" work situation, I wouldn't say that Heidi stole the job or backstabbed Elodie. The job was open, it's fair game, but you have to realize that there may be a bruised ego on the part of the person who didn't get it. What gets a firm eyeroll from me is that there exists a universe where Heidi is more qualified for a job than anyone. Heidi shouldn't beat out dryer lint for a job based on qualifications alone.

I challenge TPTB at Bolthouse to sit through Season One where Heidi bitched every day about her cruel fate being asked to >gasp< WORK at her job and explain to Elodie why Heidi is more suited for it. The only reason is Heidi's exposure on MTV which has nothing to do with talent, hard work or ability and everything to do with dumb luck.
KolijBajan
In someways, Heidi's behavior makes sense in the context of the Meet the Parents Episode. Both Heidi's dad and mom know that Heidi does not value friendships.
So if you don't value friendships then you put tons of stuff before your friends and you damage friendships for all sorts of reasons without any real agony BEFORE the fact.
Heidi most likely didn't feel bad until she looked at Elodie's puppydog face and she probably felt fine as soon as Elodie walked away. She really doesn't see that she put a chip into what was a mint piece of china that in time would have appreciated into a pricey antique.
So she goes through life treating her friendships with disdain and winds up with no valuable friendships.

I felt so bad for Heidi this episode. I wanted to hold her hand and tell her, "Heidi you didn't want this job this badly. You gave up too much to get it. You lost a friend and you used one of your Spencer lifelines." (because of course, Spencer pulled strings to get her the position)
gotta watch
I lurve me some Jason. He cleans up so nicely! And he was so, coherent. Swoon.
Niamite
hen they were at the restaurant and he started with the murderer and then ex-GF business, I was like, "Dude!!! STOP!"

I kind of liked Derek. The 40-cent shirt conversation wasn't bad, and "is it too early to propose?" could be funny. The murderer thing is funny. (Maybe it's a Jersey thing.) And the awkwardness was kind of charming--he obviously wasn't trying to be insulting or annoying.

However, when he said, "I dated a girl for seven years in high school," I was praying for Lauren to come back with, "You were in high school for seven years?"

Re: Heidi: I had an Elodie at my last job, and I would not have dreamed of competing with her for a promotion, not because it would be a betrayal, but because I didn't think a newbie like me deserves the job over someone who had been in the industry and with the company longer.
FashionVictim19
Does anyone know the name of the song that was playing when LC went to meet up with Jason???

Soulmate - Natasha Bedingfield

And I AM SUPER EXCITED!! for next week...with Elodie hating on Heidi and the infamous restaurant scene we were all teased with in the previews - it seems like this season is finally ready to start showing some REAL action and drama.
Sapienta
However, when he said, "I dated a girl for seven years in high school," I was praying for Lauren to come back with, "You were in high school for seven years?"

Well there are seven year high schools. I went to one. It was junior high and high school combined.
pizzaslut
I loved Lo in tonights episode.
RowingPains
As much as I dislike Heidi, I have to agree that she did not do anything wrong in regards to the job situation. The only one at fault here is Brent for choosing Heidi for the job in the first place. Also, exactly how old is Elodie? Her mannerisms and speech patterns especially in that last scene come off as somewhat juvenile.
JLHSmurf
To be completely objective about it, from Heidi's standpoint, she did nothing wrong. If the boss was really impressed with Elodie, he would have just created the position and directly promoted her. It's really his fault if made the decision to give it to Heidi when she may or may not have deserved it.

As of Lauren and her date, there was editing, so maybe the guy was creepy. He did say that he wanted to propose right there (even though it was just an exaggeration). If someone's not your type, they are your type.

I also love that before this season started, Lauren and Audriana said that Heidi and Spencer would only be in the first three episodes. Ha! Unfortunately, this is moving closer to the "Heidi Show."
swhite
It seems like, from the previews, they are making it seem like Lauren and Jason are getting back together. Don't we all know that he's engaged!
Sapienta
One thing this episode let me know for sure was the Lauren did break up with Jason because he was using.
smileystar78
Something about the Heidi/Elodie storyline rang false to me. It almost seemed ...fake. With that said:

She had every right to apply for the promotion, sure. And maybe, despite everything we've seen on the show, she was the better candidate. But there's nothing wrong with being collegial about it, either.

Agreed. It's a small world and if they both stay in the industry they will cross paths often. Not good to burn your bridges in your career.

Elodie tripped when she told Heidi about the position. She should have kept it to herself. They were never "friends". Heidi had no reason to be loyal to Elodie.

Amen! Heidi is the kind of girl you keep away from your boyfriend 'cause she'd try and go for him the minute she felt she was justified.

I thought the date was creepy. I'm sure in Lauren's position, with the cameras and all that, there's alot of icky men trying to come on to her.

Yeah and I think Lauren could tell that. He seemed like he was trying way too hard and not in a cute, "I'm nervous" way. More like a, "Trying to get close to reality star to get maximum tv time."
audgirl0412
I definitely think something shadier than what was even on camera went down with the Elodie/Heidi promotion. "The Hills" is a huge source of publicity for Bolthouse Productions- and I bet Heidi, with coaching from Spencer, mentioned that in a subtlely threatening way to Brent (indicating that she could walk and take the publicity with her) so she could get the job. What Brent probably fails to realize is that Heidi's fame is extremely fleeting. As soon as new drama appears on Lauren's horizon- the cameras will be elsewhere. As it is, I'm sure an event promoting Heidi of The Hills is not as big of a drawl as it used to be. Lauren's not going to be running to Area or any of the other Bolthouse clubs any time soon and Lauren is the one who brings the crowds and the media. Heidi is just a pathetic joke-and it makes my blood boil to think that she went from Second Assistant to some high profile director position. Of course, this is providing that the whole job bit isn't just manufactured drama for the cameras...which it probably is.
swankie

I never get myself worked up over their stupid teasers because they always peter out to be nothing. The only time it didn't was the infamous Jessica/Alex M. smackdown in Cabo on LB2. After that, nada.
