Stinger97
Comedian and former host of The Biggest Loser. Share your fondest (or not-so-fondest) memories of her here.

And if someone could answer the question that's been bugging me of ages, that'd be great - why was she replaced by Alison Sweeney? Did she leave of her own accord or was she fired? If she was canned by NBC, chock that up as another reason that I hate the network. If she left because she wanted to, then good for her!

I really liked Caroline. I will miss her alot. I wasn't all that impressed with the preview show.

They canned her? Well no one ever said NBC was run by smart people.
kalikula
That's a shame.. I thought she was very down to earth. Missed her a little in the new show.

I think they would have been better to let her be more of herself on the show. She's very funny but seemed very scripted on there. Her weight didn't bother me.
MDKNIGHT
I thought it was nice to have a relatively normal looking person on the show without the extremes of perfect fitness not huge obesity. And I agree she can be very funny. She was on celebrity poker and was hysterical on the fly.

I miss Caroline. I'm not a soap-watcher, so I had no idea who this new girl was until someone explained her to me.

Did I mention that I miss Caroline?

In that article it said "after the debacle that was the Biggest Loser 3 season finale, I can understand why NBC decided it was time for her 'to pursue other interests.'"

I don't remember anything about that? Can someone say what might have happened then to trigger this?

What I seem to remember was that the BL3 finale seemed very poorly rehearsed, like people didn't know where they were supposed to stand, events happened out of order, and that sort of thing. I chalked it up to sucky production at the time, but now that I think about it, it did seem like Caroline would jump from person to person asking questions, and the contestants looked like they were a little taken aback by it, or like they were supposed to be standing in a different place.

I mean, I don't know if it's ALL her fault, but that could explain part of it.

I watched the finale several times thanks to reruns on the Style and Bravo networks. I didn't think it was a train wreck by any stretch...but she did screw up a few times (forgetting players had a video clip to watch before hopping on the scale...etc.). At the end of the show when Erik was declared the winner....she lost all control. I wouldn't blame her for that....I'd blame the contestants and their families for being so rude. They had every right to be proud of Erik and celebrate, but come on...when there's a live production going on...you have to let the host do their thing!
Stinger97
Unless she was drunk or high at the time of that taping, I would imagine that much of the blame should fall on the producers. I've no doubt that NBC was probably scratching their head at the fiasco of the finale and looking for someone to blame, to which the producers offered up Caroline. And then they got to bring in Alison Sweeney (and her DOOL fans) and lived happily ever after.

Rhea has always seemed nothing but professional, why would the BL3 finale be any different?

I have to say that I'm a huge Caroline Rhea fan and was completely disappointed to see she had been replaced on TBL. I didn't see last season's finale, but if anything was goofed up, the producers, directors and film editors have to be handed the total blame, not Caroline as host. Nothing in television or movies is shot consecutively; it's all put together in editing. Goofs are reshot and edited out so everything appears (APPEARS!) to have gone seamlessly. Of course, if the finale was a live show, then I take the above comments back; Caroline then could have provided some mis-cues and caused some problems. Still, with the different format this year (black team), I can't help but agree with Stinger97: NBC was looking for a scapegoat to fix an ailing show and Caroline was out there all visible and vunerable.

Anyway, I had never heard of this DOOL actress, the new host. Hopefully, she won't play much of a part in this season. I must add, though, that Caroline was pretty tamed down as host. She is outrageously funny so I'm sure was told to "stick to the script." TBL could easily have become the Caroline Rhea Comedy Hour if she was allowed to say whatever she was (really) thinking. Which, in retrospect, could have made for some great television!

Miss ya, Caroline!

I saw Caroline Rhea perform last year. The season had either wrapped or was just about to . . . She was so excited talking about the show. I'm completely disappointed that she got canned. She is hysterical! She kept talking about being stuck in airports shoving chips in her face when people came up to talk to her about the show. You know, contrasted with Sammi Brady? Who had a huge soap opera storyline a few years ago about being bulimic or anorexic (this was when she herself was a bit chubbier.) Gee there's a host for a weight loss show.

Caroline Rhea was so completely normal. I'm missing her.

Kinda random but ...

This past Saturday night - I saw Caroline's boyfriend Costaki (*insert big long greek name here*) perform his stand up routine in a Chicago comedy club. He was pretty funny and he talked about Caroline.... can't recall exactly what he said, but he seemed to talk about her in a loving way. I liked him, I'd think they'd make a cute pair.

Lucky you, jnymph! I listen to the Bob & Tom radio show every morning; they have a group of different comedians on every day. Costaki is a regular, and Caroline is a frequent guest. That's where I learned to love her. She is outrageously funny and is naturally funny without having to fall back on a "schtick" (is that how it's spelled?) or some fako routine like some "comics" have to. Sometimes Costaki and Caroline appear on stage at the same show. That would be a great event to be at.

Maybe since Jillian is back we can get Caroline back for next season? *wishful thinking*

I don't want her back! I love AS. But, I hope CR continues to do well whatever she does.

I love Caroline's comedy, but I think she was a little off as the host. It's such a heavily scripted role that it didn't play to her strengths. And GingerBird, the finale was indeed live, for what it's worth, so for some reason Caroline also didn't shine with a chance to improv. Even live, it's still a regimented role--perhaps moreso, with time cues and such to remember--so maybe that was it.
Hockeygirl17
I love Caroline Rhea she's a fabulous comedienne. But she really did fall flat as the host, she didn't seem geniunely warm to the contestants as Allison does, I really do feel that Allison cares about the contestants and is geniuinely rooting for them all and I didn't get that from Caroline.

So I think it just was the wrong gig for her. But I'm a huge fan of hers.

I recently heard Caroline do a radio interview (on 98Rock in Baltimore, for those interested) and she was asked why she's not the host of TBL any more. She said that she decided to move on because she is a comedienne above all else and she felt that she couldn't do comedy while on TBL. She mentioned nothing about being let go, although I don't know if I'd admit it, if I were her and it were true. But her explanation does go along with the feelings that the last two posters here had.

It's been my experience that if an organization wants to get rid of an individual and has an inkling that their reasoning might not be too PC (too old, too fat, too smart, whatever) they will find a semi-legitimate reason ("for cause") and attempt to frame the parting of ways entirely around that reason.

Yes, I liked Caroline and am ticked that she's gone -- although now I get to see her when she appears in NYC. (Sometimes even @ Caroline's!)

That said, I think the scripted format of the show and her generally improvisational style of comedy (when IMO she's at her best) were a bit of a mismatch. So it could also have been in part that she felt the network didn't give her enough room to cut loose and the network felt that they were sick of editing whatever she said that wasn't scripted.

(I've heard that more than once about the best improvisational comics -- networks/production companies have to build extra time/money into the budget not just because they improv so much, but also because it takes extra time for everyone else to stop laughing between takes.)

I saw Caroline at my gym today. I've seen her there before, but today she was with a friend and they were talking and then other people were talking to them and it was a bit of a stir. I was sort of curious as to what they were talking about, but I couldn't really hear. In my heavily-headphoned imagination, she was giving people a Biggest Loseresque pep talk (I'm sure she wasn't).

Somewhat off-thread, there was another minor-celebrity there at the same time - the guy who's one of House's new team members, the adulterous plastic surgeon (I think his name is Peter Jacobson). He was just doing his thing, but I wondered what he thought of the commotion that Caroline and her mini-entourage were making.

And then I wondered what would happen if ALL of the "celebrities" that I've ever seen at my gym (including Alec Baldwin, Joan Allen, Dann Florek, and Mandy Patinkin) were there at the same time. Would they acknowledge one another? Would any of the non-celebrities get any working out done? Or would we all give ourselves hernias as we lose ourselves in our routines in an effort to be the most nonchalant gym members on the Upper West Side?

I gotta read the Gossip Mags more often. Apparently Caroline Rhea is pregnant. Good for her!

Having just watched an older repeat show that had Caroline as host I have to say she is NOTHING like Alison. Caroline can actually speak without.. hesitating..and..stumbling over.. every 2nd word... as if.. she... just learned the script for.. the show.. or dare I say having... just learned English for... the first time in her... life.

LET'S BRING CAROLINE BACK AS HOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it's THAT important, and Alison is THAT annoying when she... speaks.
