Hey guys. I'll be your moderator, and I'm so glad because I'm beyond excited for this show. This is the place to ask me questions about the forum. And I'm always available via PM or e-mail.
The most important thing is that you're familiar with the
FAQ and the
Do's and Dont's. If you are, then we should get along as well as the Darlings and money

Hi TWoP Mars.
I started a promos/commercials thread. I hope that's OK? But I'm kicking myself because I didn't capitalize the 'b' in 'but'. Not a big deal, but it looks wonky. So if it is okay, could you fix that for me? Thanks.

Of course it's OK. More threads is good. I'm about to start one for relationships, because we already have a lengthy discussion going on in the spoiler thread that probably would be more suited to a relationships thread. Thanks. (And, I'll fix the b.)

Since this thread is so new and the show hasn't started yet, I would prefer for now if we have combined actor/character threads. It seems like a lot of people are confused, for example, about whether to post in the Nick thread or the Peter Krause thread. I'll make them one thread so that you can post about the actor and the character there. If it seems like there is going to be a lot of discussion about a specific actor, we'll address adding actor threads at a later point. Thanks. (And no one did anything wrong; I'm just making this change so this forum is less cluttered; if we get subforums someday, or if this forum gets super busy after the show starts, this will likely change.)
Also, I don't know Candis Cayne's character's name, but that thread is for the character and actor (and tell me if you know it, please).

Thanks, marty118. I knew someone would know, so I didn't look too hard for it in Google.

I was just about to congratulate TWOP for choosing the chauffer for the DSM icon since word comes that he is, indeed, to be a recurring character on the show with several important scenes in future episodes when I noticed he's now gone altogether. Did the drawings get axed in the website redesign? If so, it's a pity--they were always very clever.

marty118, I'm not part of design decisions (obviously), so I don't really know much about it other than what I've been reading in the Recap and Forum Questions threads in
Bugs & Feedback. I'd take a look over there if you're curious, but I do think the change means they're not coming back.

Hi Mars
I started a topic for Jill Clayburgh (which I spelled right) but I spelled her character's name wrong, and then I discovered there was already a topic (with the character's name spelled right).
Can you delete the one I started?

Hi Mars,
Is there a problem with pages 8 and 11 of the recap, or is it just me? It's been a couple of days now and I still can't get them to load recap text.
TWoP Mars
Nov 6, 2007 @ 11:38 pm
I'm having the same issue, ajra. However, I can't fix issues of that type, so you should probably address your question to the
Tech Issues, Questions, and Information area. Hopefully someone there can fix it.

Note to All:
I went to this thread...
TWoP Forums > Nuts and Bolts > Tech Issues, Questions and Information > Known Technical Issues > OPEN: Random Missing Pages on Some Stories
...and found these postings from Glark which seem to address the page issue:
Some pages on recaps/weecaps/extras are showing up blank and need to be re-published. This error is proving hard to replicate but we're ever vigilant.

and an update yesterday:
Oct 5, 2007 @ 11:11 pm
Report · Post#2
UPDATE: Tech is auto-generating a master list of current 'blank' page of gnashitude so please hold off with blank page sightings. We'll fix the fix next week and then see if we got them all (though the root cause hasn't be pinned down yet so new stories could get bitten).
Looks like they're working on the problem and it's probably not just the Dirty Sexy Money recap.

Thanks, SinkWriter72. I had finally had time to look into this and was coming here to report the same thing. Thanks so much for being more on top of it than I am!

Not at all, TWoP Mars. :)
I'd read the recap and noticed those pages missing, but didn't really search for whether the problem was being worked on until last night, when I finally got a chance to watch the actual episode in question and see the parts of the show that were probably mentioned on those missing pages. Given how funny those missing parts were (Jeremy, Brian and Patrick trash-talking and playing video games? I totally wanted to hear what Couch Baron had to say about that!), I was finally motivated to look into the issue in hopes it had been resolved so I could read those pages. Alas, not yet.

Moderator question: How do I get rid of the note/warning status next to my name? I got those a while ago because I clicked on "new" instead of "reply" mistakenly...
Thanks!
TWoP Mars
Nov 9, 2007 @ 11:35 am
marlee, this is addressed
right here in the FAQ (which is required reading, so please take the time to read it to avoid any further warnings). Specifically, it says:
The duration of the warning is at the mod's discretion. It may be permanent, or not. Assume it will last forever; then, if a mod happens to reduce your warn level down the road, you'll be pleasantly surprised! But don't email us or post on the boards to protest a warn or to ask us to reduce your warn level; it doesn't work that way and will probably just end badly.
This is the kind of thing I'd prefer you e-mail or PM me about in the future, though, especially since posting about it here is breaking that rule in the FAQ.

TWoP Mars, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but is there any chance that the little thumbnail picture that pops up next to the episode recaps / recaplets be updated? Right now it features Patrick (and Clark?), but I think it would be cool if it featured Tripp and captured more of the fun of the show.
Here are a few suggestions:
Drunk Tripp with Jeremy:
my personal favoriteor thisOr something with both Tripp and Nick. I searched around and really couldn’t find any goods ones.
The best I could come up with was this but maybe someone else can find a better one.

I'mNotLeesa, I'm not sure if that can be changed, as I don't deal with that sort of issue. I would suggest asking this question in "Ye Olde Suggestion Box" in the
Tech Issues, Questions, and Information area.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure who handled that.
It’s really no big deal. I think I was just exuberant about the full season pickup, and enjoying all the DS raves in the forum, so I wanted to tweak things a bit. The current picture is fine, and I don’t want to create a lot of work for anyone. Maybe when the show gets renewed (or at least goes back into production after the WGA strike) it’ll make sense to follow up in the forum you mentioned.

Hi Mars (or Tennison, if you’re still covering things here.) Would it be OK if I opened a ‘speculation without spoilers’ thread?
I’ve seen some “who killed Dutch” theories surfacing in the latest episode thread and thought it might be nice to have somewhere to continue that discussion (and other speculation) that’s not episode specific. It could be called something like “Speculation Without Spoilers: Was dead Dutch done in by a Darling?” (or something more clever than I’m capable of thinking of at the moment.)

Sorry, Mars, there was a database error when I was creating the speculation thread, and it looks like it caused 2 identical threads to be created. Could you please delete the extra one. Thanks!

Many of the show forums on TWoP eventually have FAQs for the show, explaining various mysteries or nicknames that the show has. I'm wondering how those get written, as I think DSM is at a point where there are a lot of things that new readers might want to know, if they're tuning in for the first time ? Is this something that moderators write exclusively, or can forum posters suggest ideas, and is this the right place to do it ?
Just a few that I could see being FAQ worthy:
Q: Who is Gustav, and why is he called that ?
A: When Rev. Brian Darling first received custody of his son, Brian Jr., he made his son pretend to be a Swedish orphan named Gustav. The name has stuck with TWoP posters.
Q: Who is Rev. Furious ?
A: Because of his bombastic temper, many TWoP posters have taken to calling Rev. Brian Darling "Rev. Furious", because of the resemblance to the Ben Stiller character of "Mr. Furious" in the movie, "Mystery Men."
Q: Who plays Carmelita, and is s/he really a person of transgender ?
A: Carmelita is played by Candis Cayne, who is indeed a transsexual woman (born male). There was some controversy over the show's decision to modify Ms. Cayne's voice in the pilot episode, to make her sound more masculine (ostensibly so that the audience would know she was transgender), but later episodes use her natural voice.
Q: Wasn't the cast different in the first episode ?
A: Yes, two female characters were recast inbetween the pilot and the rest of season 1. Nick's daughter, Kiki George was originally played by Elle Fanning (Dakota's younger sister), and then recast as Chloe Moretz. Brian Jr's mother, Andrea Smithson, was played by Brooke Smith ("Grey's Anatomy") in the pilot, and then recast as Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer from "Twin Peaks") when she reappeared several episodes later.
Q: How exactly are the Darlings wealthy ?
A: The origins of the Darling wealth have not been explicitly explained, but the bulk of the fortune today appears to be in real estate ("Darling Developments"), particularly in New York City. The family also has holdings in a wide variety of other businesses, including a chain of hotels, various concert arenas, a pharmaceutical company and investments in organic farming.
I apologize if these suggestions are over-stepping anything, but I just thought it would be fun to get the ball rolling on the FAQ. I foresee the show being around for many seasons, and continuing to be very popular on TWoP, so I thought there was no time like the present to help out !
