From NBCUMV.com:

Kim Lyons exemplifies fitness. She has been physically active her whole life and continues to excel in motivating others and achieving her goals in the fitness arena. Armed with a staunchly positive attitude and a winning smile, Lyons finds ways to make fitness fun and achievable for even the grumpiest of clients.

I didn't see last season, so I might be judging prematurely, but I didn't like her! She seemed.... annoying!
LPTrixieKiller
Someone has to stick up for her, so I think it'll be me for the time being. On one hand, yeah, she seems shallow and like every bitchy girl I knew in high school. On the other hand, that red shirt with the skull she was wearing last night was so cute I just wanted to be her BFF forever.

I'm sure she'll get to me eventually. I like my trainers a little more in the Jillian style - I don't pay for a friend, I pay for someone to make me hate myself if I quit.
SandyPG
Does anyone know who makes the red/pink shirt with the skull that Kim was wearing? She also had a really cute hoodie with heart & angel wings on it. I'd love to have both of those tops.
phdmama06
I love the skull shirt!
Too bad Kim reminds me of a scary, catty gym coach I had in junior high...

Kim seems like a very nice person, but of the three I'd least want her as a trainer. Julian is the toughest and would be a good motivator, and Bob is the most supportive. Kim seems a bit weepy and uncertain of herself for my taste.
Minerva Moon
Something last season that really turned me off of Kim was when she went into the gym, all stressed, and pulled Kai off of whatever machine she was using at the time and made her go on a walk with her so that she could whine about BLAH BLAH BLAH HER PROBLEMS. Like...what the hell? Kai isn't your therapist, you're her trainer! Get it together, Kim!
Rosalyn578
I could barely focus on the contestants because I was so consumed with my hate for this woman. I tried to stand up for her last season but after tonight I officially despise this woman. My hope is that she'd take the fact that her team did so much worse than the other two teams as a wake-up call but she'll probably just decide that it's all their fault.

Kim is not my favorite but I do have to defend her a little....she did get the less motivated team IMO...what with Amy walking out of the workout and Lezlye whining about not liking to run....like she said she can want it for them all day but until they want it themselves nothings gonna happen.
ketchuplover
Kim needs to get motivated herself.
Yecats79
It was mentioned in the episode thread, but it just appears that kim just can't motivate her trainees the way Bob and Jillian obviously do. I know that when she was yelling that they should just quit if they want, I found her thoroughly dis-likable and if she talked to me like that I wouldn't have the drive either.
MysteryMittens
she did get the less motivated team IMO

But isn't it her job to movivate them? I'd like to see if Jillian could do something with the red team. My money's betting she could. Even Amy, as miserable as she was about missing her kids, still responded to Bob when he approached her the right way. I just think maybe Kim is a little lacking in the people skills department. And tonight, when she started whining about "who's going to get blamed for this? Me! Me! ME!" I really started thinking about how much I'd love to smack her.
littlenicky2007
I have to defend Kim also. Her girls were terrible. Amy is a rat. A sneaky little rat. To be as big as she is, you'd think she would have lost more weight.
TWoP Mars
I agree with those who think it's Kim's fault. If she used any positive reinforcement at all instead of acting like they're all idiots, they might actually want to work hard for her. Jillian's been there and Bob actually respects his folks. That makes them want to work harder. Kim's horrible because she thinks badly of these people for being fat. That's never going to get them to want to work for you.
Cookie Mobster
I can totally sympathize with Amy walking out of the gym. If my trainer took a sneering tone like that with me it would be more than I could handle as well. It was very telling how Bob was able to cheer Amy up and actually took the time out to do so, unlike Kim. Kim seems like she barely tolerates her team and doesn't give a crap about them personally. She said it herself. "She'll" look bad. "She" will be disappointed.
In this type of boot camp circumstance, having a trainer that you dislike must really suck.

Maybe the red team will get picked off one by one so she can bow out early.
littlenicky2007
Kim is a professional trainer and a successful one at that or she wouldn't be on the show. The people on Kim's team NEED to understand that there aren't any "do overs" and you can't pick another trainer so they need to get motivated on their own if Kim isn't providing whatever they need or their fat asses will be on the outside looking in. The other teams are not going to accept them now. If they did bolt to another team if it was possible, they would be targets during the next elimination. None of the women on Kims team have or had any kind of willpower and thats why they are the way they are. Amy is a lazy drama queen, Lezly was a lazy Katrina whiner and Amber was just a quitter. The team leader for the red team sure picked some losers.
ProfCrash
Kim is a sucky motivator. She is simply awful. I would work with Jillian or Bob any day of the week. Somehow they are able to talk to their teams in a way that makes the people feel better about themselves. Jillian was able to get Hollie to say that her options were to quit or do three more of whatever exercise it was and then do the three more. Hollie said it, not Jillian. Hollie had been taught by Jillian that there are choices to make and that you live based on those choices. In two weeks.

Kim's idea of motivating was to yell at Amy to quit and guess what Amy did, she quit the session. Gee that worked well.
Cookie Mobster

I have no doubt that she is a successful trainer, but she strikes me as someone with no experience (except last season) training people with these kinds of obesity issues.
That can make a big difference. Training someone who is 300 lbs is very different than training someone who needs to lose 5 lbs.
Her program definately will work, I'm just saying she has major issues with being personable and likeable. And anyone employed in what is essentially a service industry needs to be mindful of those things.

These people should be motivated by this amazing opportunity, I agree (and I hate the whining too), but I have to sympathize. It would be hard to get pumped if all I wanted to do was punch my trainer in the face every day. She seems like she dislikes and is disgusted by her team and by obese people in general. Her team can probably gets that feeling too like many of the forum posters can.
TapDiva
Dude, I was APPALLED at Kim last night. Could she be more bitchy and self-centered? I almost started crying out of relief when Bob finally sat down with Amy and gave her a hug. Do I like Amy? No. But she was upset, and needed some support, and Kim -- who is ostensibly SUPPOSED to be supporting her team member -- basically told her she was a whiner and stopped paying attention. I don't think Kim has any idea how to motivate these people and give them healthy, solid emotional support like Bob can.
msrayrudd
Definitely think she needs lessons on how to motivate people. Bob and Jillian seem to have the ability to be tough, but in an empowering way that doesn't tear their team down. Kim does not. Maybe because she's new and maybe she'll learn, but damn if that would the team I would least want to be on at this point.
Jacob's Hair Dye
Kim is obviously such a great trainer. That's why when they were running to the trainers out in the desert, they all made a beeline for Bob. Only when Jerry got there first, and second place needed to go to Red, did Phil run to Kim.

Had Jillian been standing there instead of Kim, I think it would have been more evenly split where they were running to, and Jerry may have run to Jillian first rather than Bob.

After watching her give her little pep talks to the Red team, all it emphasizes is that while Kim may know how to do the physical exercises, she has no clue how to mentally prepare them and motivate them to lose weight and keep it off. This doesn't make her a successful trainer in my book.
GingerBird
Dude, I was APPALLED at Kim last night. Could she be more bitchy and self-centered?

Complete WORD to that, TapDiva. I developed a huge hate for Kim last night. She was rude to each and every one of "her" people. I had to laugh when one of the gals was walking behind her making a face to mock her ... because I was sitting on my couch doing exactly the same thing. I feel SO sorry for the red team. They are destined to lose with Kim as trainer. When Kim said you have two choices, do it or quit, my knee-jerk reaction was quit. Geesh, she even made fun of the snack one of the guys wanted to eat. Then her whining was all about herself: SHE was going to look bad if they lost. Check out the title of this thread if you doubt me. Heh.

Maybe Kim IS a professional trainer, but is she a successful one? She has no people skills. NONE. I'd say she's on the show because the producers think she looks good in her sports bra. All of the participants came in basically equal; they all have issues. To say that red team got all of the lazy ones is looking for excuses. They become what the trainers make them. Carrot or stick ... which would YOU rather be trained with? What those people have to do is hard, hard, hard and they need motivation to make them want to continue.

Last night made me completely love Jillian, someone I've never liked before. Surprise!
phdmama06
Dude, I was APPALLED at Kim last night.

That only begins to describe how I felt about her last night! My word...all of her comments seemed to echo the whole "me me ME ME ME, it's all about ME!!" sentiment. Sure, a couple of her team members were whining and making some not-so-smart choices, like when one of the guys got the Jello and cheese for lunch, but isn't she supposed to motivate them in a positive way rather than make them feel like complete garbage? Even Jillian and her "beatings beatings beatings" still seem to come with lots of positive reinforcement, and Jillian never seems to try and make her team members feel bad. When it just was Bob and Jillian, I wasn't the biggest fan of Jillian but now she seems infinitely more charming and supportive than Ms. "It's all about ME!"

I don't doubt that Kim has had success as a trainer, but I wonder why on earth she was selected to work on the show. She seems to have some kind of phobia about obesity and she has ZERO people skills.
DanaMB
I really tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but her speech to her team to just quit made me dislike her A LOT.

I think part of the difference with Kim maybe be that she is not wholly aware of the fact that this isn't a normal personal training job. It's a TV personal training job.

When I work with a personal trainer I do not expect them to be my friend. I don't hire them to motivate me. Those that are not motivated and have a personal trainer simply cancel appointments. If you're paying money and you show up to the gym on time then chances are you're going to go through the entire time and you're going to do whatever the trainer tells you. At least that has been my experience.

The fact that Bob and/or Jillian become friends or mentors to their team is nice, and it certainly makes for good TV, but out the "real world" it's not a necessary requirement of a personal trainer (or anyone you hire) and it seems to me like Kim doesn't quite know how to make that switch.
The Royal We
I always wondered if Bob really would have left the ranch if Erik had been voted off last season. (I would have bawled had it happened.)

I am looking forward to seeing if Kim leaves when the entire Red team gets eliminated.
GingerBird

That would be super-sweet, We. But even better would be for her to be put on the black team for some Jillian beating, beating, beating ... and more beating. Heh. I'd love watching that.
Pepperminty4132
While I see Kim's flaws, I'm having a hard time jumping on the bash-Kim-bandwagon because I learned my personal trainer is friends with her and she has nothing but good things to say! Apparently Kim's a real sweetheart. I guess I just feel badly for her because things haven't been going well so far. As I posted elsewhere, I don't understand why the red team hasn't lost more weight considering that at least they are competitive with the blue team on the challenges. It's hard not to point at her as the influencing factor.

I wish this sweetness would extend to her team! Maybe I should scale back the hate a bit and jump on the "Kim Lacks Essential People Skills" bandwagon. She was being downright mean to the Red Team on Tuesday. Whoever said she's trying to be like Jillian, WORD. But you can't just yell ANYTHING at people and expect them to feel motivated; you've got to push them while also making them feel good about themselves. I don't think it's any coincidence that the entire Red Team lost very little weight this week ... they have a trainer who makes them feel poorly and doesn't support them emotionally.

I want to like Kim. I do. I saw parts of last season and didn't mind her, though I missed Jillian. But now that we've got Bob, the SWEETEST MAN ALIVE, and Jillian to compare her to, she comes off as very self-centered and whiny. I'm hoping that Kim will go on a bit of a journey as well and learn to connect to her team. I'd like to see them all pull together.
brightman73
I am a bit turned off by Kim. She made this comment in the first episode about how she "could not believe how much they had let themselves go"

HOW ARROGANT!

I just went to the NBC site and watched all the extras for week 1 and 2. I think Kim's edit sucks. They showed her taking her team for a hike up a mountain and she kept having to encourage Amber...way more than my patience could handle. Also, week 1 showed her making her folks fill out a "time capsule" and she wanted them all to write down really hard stuff, so that later when they read them, they can see how far they've come.

In week 2, it shows that she did take Amy back to the gym and Amy says how glad she is that her trainer doesn't give up on her just because she wasn't ready on the trainer's schedule. It shows Kim working her out and basically saying that she doesn't want to hear any whining, but that she will work with her on everything. She seems hard working, but very supportive in those clips.

I did not watch any of Season 3, but I've watched all of 1, some of 2 and all of 4. Kim definitely seems to be a nice person who is emotional, but she has mentioned twice in the extras that she wasn't used to "people this size", so it is an adjustment to work with obese folks, instead of the average "I need to firm up 20 pounds" client she is used to.

In a video with Bob she mentioned that she is better prepared this year. I just hope the edits she is getting aren't the reason she is coming a bit cold. I'll reserve my judgment for a few more weeks. That being said, I'm glad Jillian is back. If she left because she didn't like the way the show portrayed her, I hope they've learned their lesson.
feminaformosa
Ugh. I didn't mind Kim last year, but I hate her this year. Blerg. She was so annoying with Amy, and then to contrast that with Bob... well, I was unimpressed.
devilschild
I kind of like her but there are things about her that need to be worked on. She kinda acts like she doesn't have very much patience with under achievers. That may work fine at the studio where people have hired you to train them but I'm not so sure its working very well in this environment.
Blistex
I'm sure Kim is an awesome woman and trainer, but she just doesn't do it for me on this show. She is clearly out of her league dealing with people who have large amounts of weight to lose. She'd be better helping starlets get off those annoying 5 pounds.

I'm really hoping this season will be the only one with 3 teams and that next season it's back to Bob and Jillian.
Cookie Mobster
I must say that Kim was actually good tonight. She seems like she is getting more comfortable with her team and the editors are being a bit more forgiving in the footage they are showing. (To be fair, I think the editing is a big part of the dislike as I don't believe she's a bad person. Just out of her element.)
GingerBird

While I can't go so far as to say she was "good," I did think her editing was better. She was shown actually running with her team once instead of just yelling at them that they weren't working while she was checking them -- from home -- on her computer. That was one improvement. I think the real test was during the weigh-in, however. She didn't have any comments aired while Bob gave several statements about how worried he was when Jillian's team weighed in so low. It also seemed she had to think twice about showing approval for red team weight loss. "Oh yeah, I'm suppose to look happy at that ..." *put forced grin on face now*
devilschild
Did you see her eavesdropping on the Blue team while they were imploding?
FluteGirl
In all fairness (which is hard, because I really don't like Kim that much), it looked like it was pretty hard NOT to eavesdrop on the Blue Team since they all seemed to be yelling at one another. Besides, wouldn't you have?
TVFreak

Heh - totally. And I agree, I think it was impossible NOT to hear them screaming at one another. I don't know if they use boom poles or not - but it seemed like the lapel mics were picking up that yelling -- it was really loud.

I don't like her - I'm not sure why, she just bugs me - but I gotta say, I love most of her clothes. I totally want those camo shorts/capris. Is it wrong that what I'll probably be watching her for this season is for ideas for new workout clothes? I suppose it can't be any more wrong than the fact that workout clothes are the biggest reason I work out, period (I love cute workout clothes).

I will say, not that I like defending her, because as I said - she bugs me -- but re-watching the second episode, I sided with her rather than Amy. Undoubtedly, Bob handled the whole thing better, but it's gotta be frustrating to see someone not give it their all and then just walk out of the last-chance workout. I don't think she's as apt at working with this type of clientele as the other two trainers, but I don't think any of them should be coddling people who are, let's face it, whining. Plus, she had four other people to keep motivated - you can't stop and deal with the person throwing a temper tantrum.
LPTrixieKiller
I still like Kim and would hire her for myself. Jillian's brand of crazy makes for good TV, but I've used a trainer like her before and I plateaued really quickly.

Totally agree with this.

I don't know if anyone has posted this before, but Kim's background is fitness model and fitness competitor. I really don't think that she has had a lot of -if any- experience with overweight people. Most of the people in the fitness model and competition industry have problems gaining weight (muscle). Also, they tend to be a LOT more disciplined than the average person, not to mention an overweight person. This may explain her disgust at the people that she trains.
Crooklyn Dodger
I went from absolute loathing, to a general dislike for Kim. However, I think that being exposed to overweight people on a personal level is slowly making her come around to a realization; we're people like everyone else. She appears to be doing better, but still has a way to go. I've had my opinions of an entire group of people in the past, and never thought that there was room or a need for them in my life. Exposure to just one changed that.
devilschild
I wonder why Kim didn't carry the flag by herself like Jillian did?
TVFreak
A) she's probably not that badass

But more importantly,

B) by forcing everyone to carry it (until Football Phil took over for the last part of the leg), she was able to force her team to keep up the pace. To be fair, there might not have been anyone on Team Black that could have carried the flag (maybe the thinner twin) - but the group effort with the flag seemed to keep the pace steady.
ILuvIt

When I saw how the red team did this, I thought, What a good idea!! If the black team had all carried the flag I think Jillian would have had an easier time keeping them together (Hollie)
Torop
This was one moment where I actually liked Kim more than Jillian. Kim actually helped her team with the climb. Jillian just grabbed the flag and then yelled at them from the top of the hill.
Zatoichi
Yay! Gratuitous bikini-clad Kim ass shots! Made the episode.

She's getting less annoying (and more human) as the weeks go by.
And she was surprisingly laid back with her team in Jamaica. She's learning.

Of course, showing off that rockin' bod doesn't hurt.
xingcat
Wow, I haven't watched much of this season, but what a horrible human being Kim is. If you want your team to win, don't tell them to vote out the person having a lot of trouble, look into your own training methods, you horrible, horrible woman.
