As we know, the cast of Dirty Sexy Money have done other projects before, such as Donald Sutherland in M*A*S*H, Jill Clayburgh in An Unmarried Woman Natalie Zea in Passions (talk about rock bottom!) and Billy Baldwin in Flatliners. And who could forget Peter Krause as Casey in Sports Night or Nate in Six Feet Under?

If you want to chat about any of the DSM cast, lead or supporting, in other roles, do it here, with your dirty, sexy selves.
ScarlettLynn
I really got into 70s cinema a while back and one of my favorites of Donald Sutherland's was Klute. Great performances. He was also really good in Ordinary People (although that film always gets hated on for denying Raging Bull it's Oscar but it's still a good set of performances). I loved him as the father in Pride & Prejudice.

Peter Krause is, of course, made of awesome for being on Six Feet Under and Sports Night. I really liked The Lost Room and had hoped it would turn into a series. I also thought he was good in We Don't Live Here Anymore.

Samaire Armstrong was on a couple episodes of Freaks & Geeks so I think I'm now obligated to love her forever because of that.

Donald Sutherland has been good in so many things...the 'Did they or didn't they?' love scene with Julie Christie in Don't Look Now was pretty hot. I liked his remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and his butt-baring cameo in Animal House. He's good at father figures, à la Ordinary People. And it was very cool how his "Mr. X" laid out the black ops conspiracy to Kevin Costner in JFK.

Glenn Fitzgerald and Peter Krause did some good work together in Six Feet Under - GF played a contentious terminal patient who was referred to Nate for a pre-need near the end of Season 2.

Besides Passions, Zea also was cast in Eyes and is known in L.A. for her stage work with Lone Star Ensemble. She shouldn't be underestimated.

Samaire Armstrong was AMAZING as Anna Stern on 'The O.C.' One of my favorite female characters of all time. This probably wouldn't be on my 'Must See' List if not for her.
Russ Mel
Plus, Samaire Armstrong has the distinction of playing one of Ari Gold's assistants on 'Entourage.' She must be loved for this!

During his Italian cinema phase in the 70s, Donald Sutherland also appeared in Bernardo Bertolucci's 1900 and played the title character in Federico Fellini's version of Casanova, a man who definitely epitomized dirty and sexy when he was alive.
ImNotLeesa
Jill Clayburgh played a clumsy brilliant mathematician in a movie called It's My Turn, from the 80's I think. It was one of my favorite films at the time - a very sweet story about people re-evaluating their relationships and choices in life, with a cute bearded Michael Douglas.

Clayburgh and Sutherland have some pretty fine work between the two of them:

I adore An Unmarried Woman. I'm a big fan of Paul Mazursky's movies and that is one of his best. Jill Clayburgh was also in Semi-Tough which is a good, 70s satirical comedy ostensibly about football, with Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson. I also quite liked Starting Over, which was another one with Burt Reynolds.

I haven't seen her in much recent fare, but she was quite haunting in Running With Scissors even if the film itself was dire.

Donald Sutherland, yep, ditto the above mentions of Klute, MASH, Don't Look Now and ...Body Snatchers. Stockard Channing was the best thing about Six Degrees of Separation but it's still a very good movie.

I can't stand Aaron Sorkin, so I didn't see Krause on Sports Night except for once or twice - I do remember him however from one shots on shows that were funny but unpretentious, like an episode of Ellen. Where he was a much younger guy than she was, they dated brief and hilarity ensued. And, oh, married to Michelle Pfeiffer's sister on Cybill.

I won't lie, I enjoyed Donald Sutherland on Commander in Chief. He was the main reason I kept watching the damn show to start with.
ainoarwen
Once upon a time, Peter Krause guest starred on 3rd Rock from the Sun as an Irish folk dancer in the vein of Michael Flatley, complete with a hideous accent. He was a blast.

She was also in a recent boy/girl body swap film as well that had Sharon Osborne in it. The name escapes me however.

I can't wait to be watching Peter Krause again! I wish ABC would put him and Rachel Griffiths in their own show together :p
ImNotLeesa
Peter Krause also was in Lovelife with Carla Gugino, which is a good 'big bowl of popcorn on a rainy Sunday when there's not much to do' movie. It's a sweet little movie; kind of like Love, Actually, but much lower key. IIRC, he played a graduate school dropout with an unusual hobby, who was a little shy, awkward and unlucky in love.

"Made of awesome" pretty much sums it up for me. The Lost Room didn't do anything for me, but I was surprised at how good he was in We Don't Live Here Anymore, a movie that I enjoyed even while I found it somewhat overwrought - or perhaps overbearing is a better term? (Also, I hated the ending.) I kind of hated the character played by Krause, which is to his credit - he made me forget how much I affection I still have for Casey McCall. I wish I could say the same for Laura Dern, but I never entirely lost sight of her acting her pants (dirty! sexy! but they were on a small-college instructor's salary, so no money!) off.
ImNotLeesa
Donald Sutherland was in the film version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Playing Buffy's pre-Giles era watcher, I think.
Can't believe I forgot about that one until now, since it seems very appropriate to mention on TWOP.

Put me in the camp of folks who enjoyed The Lost Room. I thought the premise and story were intriging, and especially liked Krause's chemistry with Roger Bart and Peter Jacobson (though not with Julianna Margulies...and not the ending which I think was left hanging in hopes of a series...IMHO, they would have had a better shot at series had they done a real ending, but then >>> back to topic >>>> we wouldn't have had PK in Dirty Sexy Money.)

Blair Underwood's no lightweight either, although I haven't seen him mentioned here yet. Most people probably know him as Jonathan Rollins in L.A. Law, but he's most recently been wasting his talent (YMMV) on the New Adventures of Old Christine. Feh.

If this show is a hit, I hope this will give his career a boost.
marty118
Underwood has def. been looking for something to launch him into movies in a bigger way. Take a look at the profile link in his thread in this forum--he's working on shows for three different networks (one a starring role in an HBO drama next year), directing, and writing a mystery series that he hopes will become a film franchise.
Nat0117
I love me some Nate Fisher, but let's also take a moment to remember the awesomeness of Peter Krause as one Jay Thurman, ex-Blaze editor, conservative, and short-lived boyfriend of Andrea Zuckerman. Recall with glee how the polka dot-wearing CNN-intern subsequently made Brandon crazy jealous with cankle-pining rage ("What makes you think you're so damned irresistable?!") and then hilariously dumped Andrea's ass via Dear John letter, all circa S3 of 90210. Classic.
DetroitChick
Nat0117, you are my hero. I don't know if it was the 5 and a half years at CMU, or the fact that I'm just getting old, but if you hadn't recalled that, I'd have never put 2 + 2 together. And I lurve me some Peter "Yowza" Krause. OMG. Speechless. And giddy thinking about it his performance as Jay. Totally justifies my PK love.
JakeyIsSusan
Heh, I first remember Peter Krause from his brief role in The Truman Show.

The first times I've seen performances by Seth Gabel and Jill Clayburgh were on Nip/Tuck -- Seth was the troubled son of Famke Janssen and did things like urinating in the soap dispenser at school, and Jill had a two-episode stint as a woman who tried to sue the practrice for all it was worth or something after a slightly botched surgery (I think, it's been a while).

After The O.C., Samaire Armstrong did music videos for Hanson's "Penny & Me" and Daniel Powter's "Bad Day"; for a while, I thought that was gonna be her new career.
doulton
The Golfing Guy who may be engaged to Karen put in some time on the brief-lived In Justice; I know him for his work as "Billy" on Guiding Light circa just a few years back.
ShadowyMoon
I remember Samaire Armstrong from an episode of Numb3rs where she played, coincidentally, a movie star. She was emaciated in that, so it was good to see her looking a bit softer and healthier in this.
memememe76
The Golfing Guy was also on 90210 (the later seasons) as Kelly Taylor's lawyer boyfriend/fiance. His claim to fame was stealing his client's retainer to buy Kelly an engagement ring.

I thought Donald Sutherland was great in the latest filmic version of Pride & Prejudice as Mr. Bennett.

Glenn Fitzgerald was Alan Alda and Lily Tomlin's son in one of my favorite movies, FLIRTING WITH DISASTER. Plus, I loved that they reunited him with Brooke Smith from another favorite underrated movie of mine, SERIES 7: THE CONTENDER. That was completely awesome. Oh, and he's played clergy before, too, in A PRICE ABOVE RUBIES - he was a rebbe and one of the only two good things in that movie (Christopher Eccleston playing eeevil being the other).

.....AND sleeping with his mother.....so glad to have him back on TV as something other than a one episode guest star.
seanman76
Billy Baldwin was pretty dirty and sexy in several other roles, but the one that sticks out most is Sliver.

I was also squealing with delight at how awesome that was for me and the two other people that would recognize the reunion. Glad to meet one of them!

Kiersten Warren has always driven me crazy although she has never had a ton of screen time in any one role. Other than "Desperate Housewives," that is, when her character was a top nominee for Batshiat Crazy Poster Girl.

In this show she's supposed to be Billy Baldwin's wife, I guess, although other than the early scene getting out of the limo for the funeral she didn't look much like Kiersten Warren. Could it be they slipped us a "same character/different actor" in the same effing pilot?

The ex-soap opera fangirl in me was excited to see Todd Manning, aka Trevor St. John make a primetime appearance as Dutch.

I missed that connection, but this morning I realized I'd seen him before in Wonderfalls. He played the bank robber in the series finale and he was very good. That character also had a lot of anger issues.

And he actually is both dirty and sexy in it: Donald Sutherland is fantastic in one of my favorite movies, Kelly's Heroes. It's set in WWII but DS is kind of a hippie/bohemian type. Clint Eastwood stars, and many many others.

Yep, Kiersten Warren was only in the opening funeral scene by the looks of it. At the party, it was someone else.

I wonder why they changed her. Although she was a lunatic, I thought she was a hoot on Desperate Housewives.
blixie2
I'm glad someone else noticed the Kiersten Warren change, I hope that she really is playing the wife and the woman at the party is just his campaign manager. I loved KW on Maximum Bob.

I am SO happy to see two other posters on here recognizing the "Series 7: The Contenders" connection to "Dirty Sexy Money" via Brooke Smith and Glenn Fitzgerald. I spent the whole hour wondering where I had seen him before, and as soon as she entered the frame, I put it together. I was inordinately proud of myself. After checking IMDB, it looks like they have both appeared on "Six Feet Under" which makes perfect sense considering the pedigree of this new show. I enjoyed it, what a great cast, and I look forward to more. Peter Krause........yummy.

the plane mechanic guy was Charlie's Junkie-turned-Father on Lost!
Luca Brazzi
I really liked Blair Underwood when he played a character in Sex and the City, I think that was him...some doctor for the New York Knicks and he went out with Miranda and bought her a cookie that said I love you on it? I thought he was fab on that!
cyaxel
Can anyone tell me who played Patrick's assistant? She was at the photo shoot, and from the previews, she's supposed to be in next week's episode as well. She looks so familiar, and I can't figure out what I've seen her in before!!!
marty118
By the way, someone asked in the episode thread if DS had ever done television other than Commander in Chief. He's been in a number of made-for-TV movies, but also in the 60s he guested on a whole string of British television shows, including The Avengers, Man in a Suitcase, The Saint, Court Martial, The Sentimental Agent, Play of the Month, The Odd Man, Suspense, and Studio Four. I assume he must have been living in England at the time. Reportedly he got parts that required a "convincing American accent."

Actually, wasn't he Liam, Charlie's brother?

IMDb says the mechanic is this guy, but that's obviously not true.

Strange, but ABC's press release also says it was Gill Gayle:

Guest starring are Daniel Cosgrove as Freddy, Will Shadley as Brian Jr., Chloe Moretz as Kiki George, Gill Gayle as Norman Exley, Laura Margolis as Daisy, Roxana Brusso as Maria, Shawn Michael Patrick as Clark the Chauffeur, Candis Cayne as Carmelita, Tamara Feldman as Natalie Kimpton, David Bardeen as concierge, Jeff Denton as photographer, Kristen Honey as Juliette look-alike, Gilles Marini as Italian designer, Yan Ruiz as bellboy and Kristin Bauer as Rebecca Colfax.

I love that movie, especially the theme song "Burning Bridges". When I first saw it on TBS Memorial Day movie marathon years ago I was really weirded out by Sutherland's character "Oddball". He was just a strange anachronism to have 60s hippie type with long hair in a WWII movie! He really made the movie memorable though! Clint's reactions to him and his tank crew are great!
JakeyIsSusan
Kristin Bauer (the publicist) has done famous guest spots on Seinfeld as the "man-hands" girlfriend and Desperate Housewives as Lynette's breast-feeding co-worker, but I first remember her from the short-lived FOX sitcom The Crew (it was like Friends, only with flight attendants, and it had black people).
DoubleK61
Not a very "high brow" movie by any stretch, but I loved Donald Sutherland in "Space Cowboys". Even though some of those guys (heck, maybe all of them!) are old enough to be my father, I still confess to having "impure thoughts" throughout that movie!!!
tjl
I just noticed it in the latest episode, but Tamara Feldman who plays Natalie was Kyla in a episode of Smallville from season 2, "Skinwalkers". She played a love interest of Clark's.

For those who are DS and "Space Cowboy" fans, TNT in the US has this movie scheduled to run several times tomorrow (Sunday 11/4)

I saw "The Italian Job" with Donald Sutherland on TNT tonight. I think it will replay a few more times this week.

I just watched a rerun of Law & Order: Criminal Intent where Glenn Fitzgerald had a big guest role.

Kristin Bauer AKA Rebecca Colfax, Darling Family Publicist, is on tonights episode of Bones.
