Ah the first of the new fall shows to get a TWOP page (unless you count
Kid Nation, I guess). I swear I'm almost as psyched to find out which ones TWOP will be covering as I am to actually see some of them. This is actually one that I wasn't really planning on watching after I'd just read some blurb about it (despite my complete love of Peter Krause) because there just seemed to be SO many shows that looked good this fall. Then I caught a bunch of those
preview clips for the show on ABC.com and realized I really have a soft spot for watching the ups and downs of wealthy families that are dysfunctional-to-the-point-of-mild-insanity. (*coughArrestedDevelopmentImissyoucough*) I've got my fingers crossed that this one will be good.

ScarlettLynn, you've outlined my main attractions to this series: Krause and AD likenings. Although I do hope Nick will be able to resist "the pull of crazy" the Darlings will radiate. Michael Bluth became more like the other members of his family, that is, more self-centered, as the series progressed, which I was unhappy to see.
In any case, this is one series I don't intend to miss.

I wasn't going to watch this because the commercial was a bit too slick. I got the impression that they were trying too hard. Couch Baron's interview & the recommendation of another friend who has seen it have me convinced to give it a try.

My main reason for being interested in this show is because of the two olduns: Jill Clayburgh (An Unmarried Woman is one of my favorite movies) and Donald Sutherland (well, a few of his films are amongst my favorites and just watched Six Degrees of Separation a few days ago which I also loved).
I hope the show turns out well!

I don't really have any good reasons for wanting to watch this show (no real interest in any of the cast or anything like that) but the promos kind of got me. And as far as I know, that time slot happens to be empty in my tv watching schedule! I feel like this show has potential. I'm trying not to have super high expectations though. I'd hate to be disappointed. But I'm crossing my fingers for a good show!

Yes! The return of Casey! I didn't really watch Six Feet Under, so for me, it'll be great to have Peter Krause on a TV screen again (and of course, Donald Sutherland and Jill Clayburgh, not to mention the fact that its being helmed by (Damn, You!) Berlanti....)
Very excited to see the show being recapped and by Couch Baron no less!

YAY, I actually aspire to have some dirty sexy money one day. Okay, I'll just take some money.
I actually can't wait to watch Dynasty Redux, but Jill Clayburgh can kick Linda Evans ass anyday.

This show wasn't really on my must-see list but I've heard good things about it, the promos look intriguing, I don't think I'm watching anything else in that timeslot, and I love Donald Sutherland. So, I'll give it at least a couple of episodes, although I'm more "mildly curious" than "obsessively excited."

That's me too... more curious than excited. I hope we'll be pleasantly surprised. I don't want to be watching it just because it's on and there's nothing better to watch.

Count me as "happily intrigued" — though the involvement of Peter Krause nudges me closer to the "excited" end of the scale. The fact that he's on board due to Greg Berlanti, who also brought helped bring back Rachel Griffiths on Brothers & Sisters, makes me that much more interested.

The promos are what made me add this show to my 'will check out' list. I can only pray that this show is like Dynasty.

I'll second that one!
Also I'm with ScarlettLynn and ainoarwen, one of the big draws for me is
families that are dysfunctional-to-the-point-of-mild-insanity. (*coughArrestedDevelopmentImissyoucough*)
plus Peter Krause...what's not to love.

I saw the pilot tonight. I absolutely loved it. I'm almost afraid now because I know they halted production for awhile to sort out some show issues. If the pilot is any indication there's nothing wrong with the show IMO and I hope they don't change too much.

I'll third it and can I add the requests of Matthew St. Patrick and Tina Holmes?
ImNotLeesa
Sep 11, 2007 @ 6:27 pm
Of course you can, darkestboy, though the part about Tina Holmes won't make me happy (nothing against the actress...it would just remind me of Maggie from SFU... and I'm really trying to forget her ).
Though I could manage to get over my unhappiness pretty quickly if there was also a guest appearance by Robert Guillaume.

But i am really looking forward to the show - it had better not disappoint. I am hoping that it's like a 21st century version of dynasty - i loved that programme as a kid. Fingers crossed that it will do well.
Does anyone think that the 10pm timeslot will harm the show though?
Edited - because it got moved by the admin - i had put this comment in the wrong thread...:(

I am one happy camper! It seems like a channel in this country will start broadcasting the show in November. In November, people. This has got to be the fastest import schedule I have ever witnessed. The series will need to be subtitled for broadcast, which alone blows my mind. Another thing is that we don't usually have breaks in broadcasting. No reruns, all the episodes are aired one after the other in 22 weeks. I'm thinking that the channel will have to resort to a break at one point. In any case, I'm psyched.

Hey guys. Meet Markets are for off-topic chatter, so if you want to talk about Ratings and Scheduling, we can talk about that in our on-topic threads. We already have a Ratings and Scheduling thread for talk such as this.

I guess this qualifies as media? Folks, Dirty Sexy Money is really hurting in the Tubey Award nominations. Go over there and nominate!
I tried to do my part--if I search, we have about three-pages worth of listed nominations...
I really hope the show gets "Best news Series" and "Best Tearjerker" (Goodbye to Brian Jr.) nods, at least.
Since
Strega gave the OK to chatter about the Tubeys in the Meet Market threads
here, I thought I’d pick up the discussion over in this thread.
I really hope
DSM makes it to the next round in at least some of the Tubey categories, plus I think it deserves to win Best New Show, and Tearjerker too, I agree
DaisyBuchanan.
I’ve tried to do my part so far, too, but I haven’t finished voting in all the categories yet.
It’s tough to figure out a category that Brian would fit nicely into (aside from his contributions to Best One Liner, and Tearjerker.) He’s not really a Badass (though he kind of started out that way) and he’s not really a Villain or the Least Villainous Villain. Same with Tripp, too, I suppose.
I did vote for Simon Elder as Most Unwelcome New Character, but I guess he doesn’t bring out enough hostility for me to nominate him as The Character Most In Need of Being Killed Off. (Sadly, Kiki did come to mind for that category, but a) I hate to be cruel to a child, b) I’d hate the drama that would put Nick & Lisa through and c) I think she could be tolerable if she weren’t being dressed up like an anvil for most of her scenes.)
Any other thoughts?

Most Ludicrous Plotline: 1 vote for Simon Elder mischief
Best Tearjerker: 5 votes for goodbye to Brian Jr.
Best Guest Star: 1 vote for Eddie Cibrian
Most Unwelcome New Character: 2 votes for Simon Elder
Least Favorite Character: 1 for Kiki, 1 for Simon Elder

I'd love to see more..well, love for the show, particularly where Glenn & Donald's work is concerned.

Wow!
RianD, thanks for pulling that all together.
Oooh, I didn't think of Nick's cellphone for the Best Performance by an Inanimate object - good call! I totally think they should use the cellphone with the Darling ringtones more next season. I was one of the briefcase voters - that "click" when Nick entered Tish's birthday just blew me away - for its impact to Tripp, but also to Nick (think about it - that's the first confirmation he's had that his father held another woman close in his heart, besides his mother).
I’m not that worried about all the categories that have only one DSM vote , since there’s been some confusion about whether multiple votes would count or improve a show’s chances of being in the next round. Still, I l can’t think of where Brian would fit in other categories, though I’m sure I’ll think of something over the weekend. I hope other folks who have been lurking around the DSM forums keep voting. It's a little tough, though, since the show's been off the air in the US for ~6 months.
On another topic, what brought you all to DSM?
To paraphrase someone in another DSM thread, I came for the Krause, but stayed for the writing, the Sutherland and the Fitzgerald, along with the Krause. This is still one of my favorite shows, though I’m a little fuzzy on a lot of the details. I may have to do a rewatch of the S1 episodes to gear back up for S2.

You know, I stumbled upon it by accident, and by word-of-mough. I kept in on in the background after Pushing Daisies and Private Practice and liked it, but really ddin't pay close attention. Then my sister began to rave about it, so at about the third showing, I used the Private Practice timeslot to do my computerwork and paid attention during DSM! The humor caught my attention, and the multi-facets of the characters kept me hooked. That, of course, and my huge-ass crush on Glenn Fitzgerald.
No problem rough tallying the vots; I have some personal stuff going on, so it's keep my mind off of it!
New adds today:
Best New Show: 8 Votes
Least Villainous Villain: 2 votes for Simon
Favorite Actor: 1 for So. Sutherland
Fav Character Tripp Darling
Least Fav Actress: 1 vote for Samaire

Yeah, it's been a while since we've really had something new to talk about. I think the Paley festival session was the last real new DSM event. Plus, I don't think any of us ever got into the habit of hanging out in the Meet Market for this show because we had so much to chat about in the episode threads...and then all of a sudden there were no new episodes to chat about. Pesky writers' strike.
That's funny, RianD, that it was the show itself that drew you to DSM (not the marketing or a particular actor,etc.). What brought you other folks here...or to DSM?

The Tubey nominations have been compiled, and the finalists are now listed in
The Telefile.
If you were planning on voting for any of the
Dirty Sexy Money nominees in the final voting, be sure to vote in the next week. As far as I can see,
Dirty Sexy Money only made the cut for one category - Best New Show. Voting for that category ends on July 27th.

Alright, I'll admit it. I'm into this show. I couldn't sleep last night and I decided to give it a shot. This is really going to adversely affect my grades, isn't it?

I have to admit, I couldn't imagine watching this show when the original season had it's roll out. The previews didn't interest me because they focused on it being superficial rather than pointing out how nuanced it really is.
It's like a great city, this show. Tough to visit, great to live in. I got the season 1 DVD from a friend. Whoops. Insto-addiction. Make it last ABC!!!
Finally, it won't affect your grades if you do your homework before air-time.

That's well put, gregeddie. This show sounds ridiculous when I try to explain it or show someone the preview, and I even have trouble believing that it can be so addictive, but when I sit down and watch it, I get completely into it and am hooked all over again.
Not good for a visit, great for living! Just like my hometown of Portland! :)
Also, I had a dirrrrrty dream about Jeremy last night. There was a fancy bathtub. We were in it. IT was niiiiiice. Stupid sexy Jeremy and your disarming dimples!

So, with all the conflicting information flying around about the show's fate today : It's cancelled - No! Eli Stone is cancelled - No! both are going to come back after mid-season, No! All of ABC's schedule is being replaced by a relaunch of Who Want's to Be A Millionaire: Bachelorette Dancing with the Stars Edition, featuring Jim Belushi, I'm beginning to worry that I'm part of the problem.
It seems that any show I really enjoy is doomed to last less that two seasons (with the 2nd season always being on thin ice so I just can't relax and enjoy it). Sports Night, Firefly, Cupid, Dead Like Me (though I got into that late), Shannon's Deal (oh, I went into the wayback machine for that one). I was hoping DSM would buck the trend and become a breakout hit, or at least build slowly over time.
Though it's not going to ruin my life or anything, if this show ends, I will be sad. Maybe just mourning the loss of the potential that existed last season. And realizing that TV right now doesn't have a lot of shows that interest me: DSM, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, The Amazing Race and sometimes, oddly, Survivorman (never know when I might need to survive stranded in the Australian outback with only 3 television cameras, the clothes I'm wearing and the latest issue of Real Simple) . That's like 3-4 hours a week, tops (and mid-season doesn't promise anything new to grab my interest).
Anyone else having the same experience?
