Weeeeeeeak.

I agree this was the weakest episode of the season, especially in the cliched and mawkish handling of Paige's diabetes-induced crisis of faith. The only real highlights were the fantastic Nora/Holly scene, some amusing Kevin/Justin interaction, and Sarah's hilarious barbs ("20 years is a career" is one of my favorite lines of the season).

This was Cliff Olin and Peter Calloway's first script, and I think it definitely needed another draft or two of revisions. I felt the writing pair's second entry, "Valentine Day's Massacre", was a significant improvement.
Sandman
Again, I liked the recap far better than the episode that inspired it - though, honestly, I would have found "... Jon Robin laid an egg" irresistible, even if somewhat inaccurate. And not the best scansion. Also, "Major Hickey" - heh.

This is definitely one for the "trying too hard" column. And I really, really wanted someone to slam Holly for that unbelievably sanctimonious "I believe that the politically correct term is 'the other woman'" remark. I'm sure Sarah was thinking something awesome. (::highfives Bruinsfan:: I'm saying.)
Which, no. You have this conversation immediately so that your child isn't cherishing false hope. Rachel Griffiths gives the homily her all, though, and adds that Paige will get stronger as a result of having to deal with this, and will get in touch with her inner magic, or something icky. You've watched TV before; you get the gist. Sarah tells Paige she loves her more than anything else in the whole world, and Paige saves the scene from giving me diabetes by asking eagerly, "Even more than Cooper?" Sarah has more love than both of them together will ever need. Hugs. Bleah.

Hear, hear. "Icky" is right. And "Brigadier General James Earl Glarypants" is a thing of beauty. But,
Even when it's naughty, I can't stay mad. Well, except at the music supervisor. You couldn't find an inexpensive recording of "Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming" instead of using yet another too-on-the-nose ditty that talks about "on this winter's night with you"?

aw, don't be dissin' the Lightfoot, now.
Bruinsfan
In that situation I'd have been unable to hold back something along the lines of "Funny, I'd always heard 'homewrecking devil-bitch' as the proper label."
Sars
If they'd used the actual Lightfoot, I'd have been thrilled, but that didn't sound like Gordo to me. Unfortunately.
Sandman
No, no, you're right about that - it was a cover by Sarah McLachlan; but I couldn't resist planting the Gordo flag a bit there, even so. It's also true that it was very on-the-nose in the context of the scene.

Nora/Paige/Sarah/Joe - Hannukah only comes once again and it made an interesting change to tackle both that and Christmas. Not a given thing on US Tv at times. Nora went overboard, Paige's fears about her diabetes were understandable and Sarah was sweet with her daughter.

Sarah/Holly/Nora/Saul/Tommy - Come on, Sarah might hate Holly with the fire of a thousand suns but did she really think she stood a chance of duping the woman? Holly was in a way right to bite back. Nora's peac making scene was great but how ling will these two be able to bury the hatchet?

Kitty/Warren/Whit/Jack - So instead of getting fired Kitty decides that working for Robert is the better option of the bunch? I know it's only been ten episodes but I'm gonna miss Red White And Blue. Her last scenes with Warren and Whit were kinda sad in a way.

Tommy/Julia - Okay Julia's pregnant and the writers still can't give her anything to do. At least Tommy wasn't entirely squabbling with Sarah over the business this week.

Kevin/Justin - These two really rocked together and Kevin can certainly put a convincing argument when he wants to. Justin attempting to face his responsibilities as well is great. 8/10.
