He's been an International Male model and a basketball player, but now he's a soap stud, a reality show host AND he's joining DWTS. He's dancing as fast as he can!
Just as background, his character on "All My Children," Ryan Lavery, is an endless font of sperm as well as the town's resident "Ragemonkey." Apparently, Louis van Amstel was on All My Kids not that long ago to teach Ryan and his new bride (Bride number 3? Or 4?) to dance, but it didn't go very well.
So we'll have to see if soap star status is enough to propel him to finals, a la Kelly Monaco, or if he has to dance well, too.

..... You forgot to add that, above all else,
He's THAT MONSTER!!!
Sorry.... couldn't help myself.....
If his moves are anything like what he showed on AMC, I think I'll have to tune in for the laugh.

I considered a lot of different thread titles. "Dance, Ragemonkey, Dance!" seemed too mean, since Ryan is the Ragemonkey, not Cameron. "Bringing the Brow to ABC Since 1998" wouldn't mean anything to anybody who hasn't seen the Frankenbrow in action. And "I Wanna Be a Dance Star" doesn't have the spizzerinctum.
"He's no Susan Lucci" had possibilities, as did "Pine Valley's Biggest Sperm Donor" but in the end, I went with this one.
Poor Cam. In person, I have to say, he seems like a very nice and fun guy, even when being hounded and having the stuffing squeezed out of him by over-eager soap fans. He comes off like a hyper goofball and a bit of a dork. So that makes me hope that he does well on the show, just because he does seem nice. I know other people are rooting for him in the hopes that DWTS will raise his profile enough to get him to leave AMC and take Ryan Lavery with him. I mean, he'd be better than Joey Fatone at hosting something better known than "I Wanna Be a Soap Star."

I leave town and my computer for a week and a half and come back to find the BROW will be on DWTS? Are you kidding me? Christ I was so hoping for La Lucci to show up on this show because Erica Kane doing the tango, with rose in teeth no doubt, would be surreal, but the BROW? How the hell can he get time off from playing a character who is in almost every fricken scene and every fricken storyline and not somebody less ubiquitus? Please God don't let the billions of people who watch AMC keep THAT MONSTER dancing on my screen for any length of time. I'm sure the real guy himself is nice enough, because nobody is quite the self absorbed hypocritical schmoo with a God complex that Ryan is, but I find him painful to watch nonetheless.

He's a very sweet, down to earth guy. I watched him a few times on Martha. The time where he came out as Tarzan. Then how he brought his wife and son on the show. His wife just found out they were expecting a daughter

There's way too much resemblance to Ian personality-wise for me not to laugh once he does a latin dance. I'll be tuning in just to see that, especially given his character on AMC. That, and the fact that I want to see another celebrity bring in a life coach.

I just read that article in the media thread giving odds about the performers, and I didn't have any idea that Cameron suffered from Perthes syndrome as a child. After looking it up on
Wikipedia I have to say whoa. And not to divert too much from the With
out Pity that I so enjoy on this site, but I'm glad that it seems that he was lucky to have it treated earlier on in his life and to have as good a reaction as he seems to have had. Unlike the person in the article, I'm not sure that will really effect his dancing on the show, I think he can be wooden all on his own. But I wish him the best going forward with his body, especially as he gets older.
This of course won't stop me from liking or not liking his performances if he sucks at him and saying so. Well guess that With Pity thing didn't last long.

Edyta posted this on myspace
(Update From Edyta)
Cameron is a great person with lots of energy, positive attitude, hard working and charming. His schedule is very busy because he still works on the soaps almost every day. We practice long hours and I’m really amazed how well Cameron is taking it. I know how hard it must be for him to dance after whole day of work on ‘All my children’.
We get along really well, have lots of fun together, we laugh a lot but also work hard.
Our first dance is Foxtrot. I think it suits Cameron better then some of the latin dances. He is in a great physical shape but the fact that he is very tall makes it difficult for him to do some of the fast rhythmical dances. However with the determination that Cameron has that may change. He improves quickly and that’s what matters for me most. I don’t want to make any predictions, but no matter what happens I know that I have a great time. We both want to win but we are not driven by the outcome of this competition. I think that Cameron really enjoys dancing and I really enjoy dancing with him. I hope it will show on the dance floor because I believe that the chemistry of the couple is as important as the dance ability.
I will be posting as much as I can (on the forum). Thanks again for being with me and I hope you will enjoy this season as much as all the previous ones if not more.

TV Guide interviewIt's certainly going to be a challenging schedule: Mathison will be spending three days every week in New York taping the soap (and rehearsing for Dancing), then flying back to L.A. to compete ...
This is going to be a brutal schedule. If he lasts to the point when they have to learn and perform two dances, I think AMC is going to have to put him in a coma or have him go over the side of a cliff ... oops! Ryan (his character) already did that ;o).

ABC has been running ads for CamMat & Edyta during All My Children, so you can't say they're not supporting him. Or maybe they're trying to get all three All My Children fans (the ratings have not been great as of late) to tune in to DWTS. Cross-promo, either way.
Oh, and Edyta looks gorgeous in the ads.

Dancing with his co-stars: "All My Children" star Thorsten Kaye (Zach) has (jokingly) declared this "The Year of the Dance" in honor of his co-star and friend Cameron Mathison (Ryan), who debuts Tuesday night on "Dancing With the Stars."
"I was going to offer a free round of drinks to fans for every week that he wins, but I can't really afford that since ABC didn't pick up the show that I pitched, 'Drinking With the Stars,'" jokes Kaye.
Kaye will offer weekly reviews of his pal's performance on SoapOperaWeekly.com.

If it were up to me, he'd be the first person to go. Not only was he poorly coordinated and lacking personality or charisma, he also pandered for votes from soap fans while later bringing up his childhood injuries as a reason why he probably wouldn't be a good dancer. He has all the angles worked out except dancing or putting on a good show. He's the type of ready-made "star" who clomps through every week without any real reason why.

Here's my issue with Cameron - it's only Week 2 - and he seems to be cracking under the pressure. This is something he chose to do. So he knew about his busy schedule. I would much rather throw my votes to someone who genuinely wants to be there.
ButterflyBandit
Oct 3, 2007 @ 10:22 pm
This was the first real week of Cameron's new schedule, so, I don't blame him for being a little freaked out by it.
Last week (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, here), he'd had four weeks to rehearse and get his dance down. This week, he only had one. I'm sure it was a shock to his system. I didn't see his being overwhelmed as him cracking under the pressure, just him realizing the heft of what he's took on.
To expect him to smoothly adjust from having four weeks to prepare and balance work and travel to compacting all of that into one week, is, in my opinion really unrealistic.
jjc7384
Oct 3, 2007 @ 10:54 pm
I've been a fan of Cameron's since 1998 when he became Ryan Lavery on AMC. But before the premiere day, he had a month to rehearse. From the results show until Monday, he had 4 days. That doesn't give it much time.
goshblog
Oct 4, 2007 @ 8:24 am
But ALL of the contestants had the same amount of time to rehearse. And all of them have busy lives. Again, this is something he chosed to do and he knew the hectic schedue going into it. How is he going to handle it when the pressure even gets tougher?
ButterflyBandit
Oct 4, 2007 @ 8:31 am
I don't think anyone is discounting the hectic lives of the other competitors. But, do we really think he's the only one who complained? I don't. I think he's just the one whose complaints they aired. He is (arguably) the most thinly-spread of the contestants, so, if they're going to show someone "cracking," then he's the best candidate (pre-Jane and her heartbreaking situation).
And, as for his complaints, I don't blame him. I'm sure on paper everything looked manageable and like something he could handle and he's just trying to get used to it. I refuse to fault him for that.
Now, if it's three weeks later and he's still going on and on about it, I'll probably jump on the STFU bandwagon, but, right now, I'm squarely in his court.
jjc7384
Oct 4, 2007 @ 9:12 am
If there was a hard dance that I had to learn in 3 days, I couldn't get it, I would complain to. Cameron wasn't the only one who complained. Albert thought it was frustrating for him along with others

WORD. He and Edyta got screwed with the music choice. That song is not, never was, and never could be a Tango. It has too smooth and steady a beat, and Tango music is supposed to have a sharp, staccato rhythm to bring out the staccato nature of the dance moves. Cameron and Edyta's Tango was too smooth and flowing, which is what Len meant when he said that the character of the dance was missing. Instead of the Tango, they basically ended up doing an Argentine version of the Foxtrot.

WORD. He and Edyta got screwed with the music choice.
Many of the couples have bad music choices and manage to overcome them. Drew and Cheryl had to tango to "Shut Up" or whatever that Black Eyed Peas song was.
That Edyta had to hide behind a gimmick for her partner suggested she had no confidence in him, which I can understand. He's had three weeks and he hasn't done any improving I've seen, even when he had better music selections.
I'm also tired of hearing him talk about his job and how hard it is to do both. Almost everyone has to juggle two or three jobs if they're on this show.

It's sad....Cameron has the look and that body of his is just smokin' hot. But, that's pretty much all he has. He disappoints me whenever he dances. The only spot he's going to compete with is the lower scoring spot with Mark Cuban.

ITA, that was awful - though I think he did much better this week.
Does that Soap Dish show or whatever it is that he hosts get taped daily like AMC? He does seem to be succumbing to exhaustion even faster than Wayne which is surprising - though flying back and forth across the country sucks for anyone. His *need* to do well is very reminiscent of Ian last season - smells a little desperate to me.

I'll always think of him as the guy who sat in the row in front of me in my physics class at McGill University in the fall of 1988, because he was, and did. Fashion-wise, he had an early grunge thing going -scruffy hair, always wore a knit cap- but whenever he turned his head to the side, I would be staring in admiration at his profile. However, I was very shy and never said a word to him. A few years later, a McGill newspaper noted that he'd just won a big modeling contest. If I recall, the article said he was an engineering major -not an easy major, and McGill's not an easy school, so he must have brains.

Cam Carries OnCameron Mathison (Ryan, ALL MY CHILDREN) made it through another round of DANCING WITH THE STARS last night. Wayne Newton got the boot (er...dancing shoe) this week.
Mathison has a busy day next Tuesday, Oct. 16. DANCING WITH THE STARS: THE RESULTS SHOW airs live at 9 p.m. on the East Coast. He'll have to rush (it's been said a helicopter will be waiting for him) over to the set of SOAPNET's first ever live finale of I WANNA BE A SOAP STAR which airs at 11 p.m. EDT. Mathison is also the host of that reality series. Fortunately, both shows are shot in California. Phew.

He's also signed on for Super Soap Weekend in November. I checked. Nov 10 and 11. If I've figured it out right, there should be six couples dancing on Nov 5, and five couples on Nov 12, the day he gets back from Orlando.
If he and Edyta are still dancing, I wonder if she will go with him (to keep rehearsing) and dance for the soap fans at Disney World?
I can't imagine Disney/ABC giving up that chance for cross-promotion. Shots of sunny Disney World, Mickey and Minnie, Cam and Edyta, cheering throngs of soap fans... Yeah, I think that's pretty much a given. Grassy Knoll time, but I wonder if they will make sure he lasts to the Top 5 just to make sure they also get their Disney World promo.
Or maybe they will just send the Top 5 couples to Super Soap Weekend regardless?

Not to mention he's hosting the

I'd say that's a definite yes. It would almost be crazy to pass up that chance for cross-promotion not to mention grabbing votes.
Didn't Joey go dance at Disney?
