this.

Well I did some "research" on Youtube and this guy's adorable! I thought he was Cuban - turns out he's Jewish. Or maybe both? And seems like he's self-deprecating and sweet! Oh, and for every $1 he gets in fines for shooting his mouth off at referees (it's up in the millions by now) he donates a dollar to charity. I hope he's having a great time with Kym. I can't believe I like a billionaire! And thank the Lord we got him and not the Donald or Bill Gates. This one's cute -- he wants to ask Shaq which "Wiggles" song he likes best -- something like that. Oh and he's on a treadmill saying he's trying to work off his "big fat butt." I think this guy's gonna be fun. Seems kinda obsessed with stupid basketball though...

Oh, he's arrogant and obnoxious alright. He's also really damn good at what he does, in terms of internet-related ventures, owning a sports franchise and producing movies.
He's a riot, and I hope he translates.

Obnoxious overgrown teenager.
Mark Cuban is really good at what he does (& has been hugely sucessful), but he's always come off (to me) as a dork who gets to act out all his juvinile "cool guy" fantasies 'cause he has money. He's smart in business, but appears to be a social moron. His own reality show was basically built around his fragile but massive ego (he cut people for ridiculous reasons that I believe he thought were clever & Trumpy but that came off as contrived & so wannabe), & he came off as a major league dick. Everything he says has a kind of "Hey Guys! Aren't I COOL?!" desparation to it. So, I hope his ease with the Fox Trot is closer to his investment skills than to his level of charm.
Hate 'im.

My impression was that he acts that way - acts so entitled - because he's earned it, as far as he's concerned. And frankly, his work ethic is to be compared more to the athletes they've had on the show. He goofs off, sure. But he also works his damn ass off, too. The man is "work hard, play hard".

Mark Cuban's an excellent businessman. But he's still a total asshole! Just because he has mucho dinero doesn't mean he can't act like a decent human being! Add my name to the list who thinks he's an obnoxious asshole!

As a Spurs fan, Mark Cuban tops the list of most annoying things in the NBA (followed by Suns fans, but thats a whole other story). There are a ton of people out there who cannot stand Cuban's grandstanding when it comes to proclaiming his accolades and achievements. If he was a little more humble (and subdued), I might be able to tolerate him. But no, he's still annoying as ever.
I predict a week two exit, disco training be darned.

I'm a Mavs fan so I may be a little biased, but Mark is an amazing guy. He really down to earth, nice to Mavs fans, and is good to his players. I can see why people can't stand him, but in my opinion, Mark is just a fan with a lot of money and everything he says or does is what fans would do.
He also used to be a disco instructor so it will be interesting to see what he does. I'm excited he's on the show and I hope he does well.

Yes, it was called THE BENEFACTOR, it was really weird and random how he kicked people off the show. It was on the same time as Branson's attempt at a reality show. Both failed miserably (Bransons which was on FOX got moved to FX, and Cuban's seemed to be in production while they were airing it and was told to speed things along).
I hear he's a nice guy, just wierd.
While I have a feeling that Seymour will win the whole thing, I'd like to see Cuban in the F3

I went in without many preconceptions - I heard the jerk rumors, and know he's always in trouble with referees, but didn't have much of an impression myself. I figured he might be insufferable, or ghastly, but to my surprise I enjoyed his performance quite a bit. I'd place him a cut or two above Billy Ray, certainly, in the ability category, and he does seem to be having a good time.
The mugging and hijinks could grow thin after awhile, and I suspect the judges will eventually come down on him for the lip syncing. But for now I'm in no hurry to see him cut. I'm actually enjoying him more than one or two other men in the pack.

I don't love him, but he seems to be having a lot of fun, which goes a long way. And it was cute when he talked about how excited his daughter was to see him dance.
But could we do without the pervy one-liners? Like our beloved recapper Kim, the "I'm coming! HARD!" line made me barf, and then last night the "I'm touching my rod" thing. Ewwwwww.

I must admit that Mark Cuban really surprised me. I thought we would have Tucker Carlson part 2 but alas I saw no chair in the the dance sequence so color me surprised when he did well. And took it seriously. I glossed over that he is a millionaire many times over and certainly has a competitive spirit!

I'd never heard of him, but as they mentioned him owning the Mavericks, my oldest son immediately knew who he was. (He's a basketball fanatic). I thought the choice of "King of the Road," was a bit cheesy for Mr. Billionaire. He wasn't awful, by a long shot. But there's a lot better out there this season. So, I hope he's not around long. All his sweet, vote engendering, comments about his daughter didn't twang my sympathy chord. Even very rich, over-opinionated, egoistic guys love their kids. No votes from me!

This is why I like him too. He is not the stereotypical cold as ice billionaire. He seems to have a heart and a passion for his favourite things. I would probably be a lot like him if I happened across a few billion. That said, I didn't care much for his singing/dancing last night.

bimbo du jour: Cuban had commented on his
blog a couple of weeks ago that the costumers were trying to dress him up like Ricky Ricardo. I'm not sure if they get to decide what to wear, it sounds like they get some things to choose from but can't specify exactly what they want to wear.
I suspect that outside of Internet geeks and sports enthusiasts (people who are not likely candidates to watch DWTS) not many people know who he is. I am an Internet geek and sports enthusiast, and I am only watching the show because of Mark's participation. Having said that, I'm glad I did. Other than feeling compelled to fast-forward through almost all of the "results" show, I find the show very well produced and entertaining. I hope Cubes can at least make it to week three, but that seems to be in jeopardy no matter how good his Mambo is! I give him a lot of credit for a decent Foxtrot on an artificial hip that was replaced 3 months ago. I know I'm in the minority! :-)

I'm really kind of in awe at MC's seeming lack of self awareness. He seemed truly stunned to be in the bottom two. Aside from Albert, who else did he possibly think would be there? Does he consider himself beloved or something?
I was a bit surprised when he agreed to be on the show because, to me anyway, he seemed like a definite early exit unless he was amazing. And, he's not. He didn't embarrass himself, he's just very average. He ego is so large that I didn't think he'd want to subject himself to that type of "humiliation". Did he think was was going all the way?
And I wish Kym, or someone, would sit him down and tell him to stop mentioning how much he sold his business for. It really would make him come off like less of an ass.
I will say, though, I didn't hate him like I expect to. Ah, the wonders of Kym. She makes everyone more likable.

Plus: He looks fifteen years younger with the slight hair dye and shaving his face.
Minus: Everything else, but his weird hip action and mugging were the worst.

I really like Mark. You know, I really like those people that work their ass off for the love of competing, the love of learning something new, and, in his case, as a form of therapy. The cable went out, but it I did get to see Mark, and my heart just sank when I saw his wife's face after the judge's comments. Mark's face after the scores was sad, as well. Sorry - I think Wayne's attitude towards the show is outstanding, but I don't think he should have been given a 6, if they gave Wayne a 5. Wayne should have been lower.
I thought his hip action was good enough for someone just a couple months off of a hip replacement.
Hope he made it another week. I worry, though, because he's not a typical "star". He's not a known performer - he's just a rich guy, so he's not going to have much of a fan base except his team, and perhaps some fans of the Mavericks that don't hate him.

Oct 2, 2007 @ 9:22 am
I think his wealth isn't helping him, not that you win big money on this show. And all of the other stars are doing pretty well financially, compared to most of us. Wayne Newton especially.
But while the other stars are rich from being "famous", Mark is famous for being rich. I think that works against him popularity-wise.

Mark Cuban is not a professional entertainer. But he is going up against people who are. And the guy is making it the old fashion way - with sheer determination and hard work. You can't help but root for a guy like Mark Cuban. He's had HUGE success in the business world - yet he is having what he calls the time of his life on Dancing With the Stars. He's also not a young pretty boy, but there is something very endearing about his boyish enthusiasm. He is entertaining to watch – and I love it anything when the fans go against the judges.

Hey, I think this is just another very rich man who is competitive, because he can't allow himself to be anything else. It wouldn't surprise me if he did order people to vote for him.

I don't know Mark Cuban personally - but I threw all my votes his way. Yes, he is competitive - he makes no bones about that. But he does have a good work ethic. I like him because he is not a professional entertainment or athlete. Also, at 49, he is not the youngest contestant. I think he will be the underdog - someone who will be around a while. I noticed that the room went wild when they announced last night that he was safe.

I guess, judging from some of the comments, that's he's a jerk when not on DWTS?
That would depend on who you talk to. The guys at my house aren't fans of his, but that's a sports thing that I couldn't care less about. But, then, I didn't care about all the personal "cheating" hate that so many held against Mario, either - the only thing that interests me is what they do on and in regards to DWTS.
I give the guy some points just for doing DWTS - most of the "stars" are, of course, looking to benefit their careers. However, short of just the competitive satisfaction of trying to win and the challenge of doing something out of his comfort zone, I don't know how else it could possibly benefit him - he surely doesn't need the money. Yes, there's publicity involved, but I'm not sure how that would influence his position as a team owner, other than a personal desire to give people a look at another side of himself. I know some really nice people (men and women) who become raving maniacs and who I've been embarrassed to sit next to at a sporting event.

Yes, and I'm probably one of them. Ack!:)
Anyway, I really really like this guy. I think it is because he's just so dang joyous when he dances, even if he is not the best at it. That goes a long way in my book. Compare that to Jenni Garth, or Ian Ziering from last season, who were probably technically better, but so tense it just looks painful...

I really like Mark too. My votes are currently split between Helio and Mark. Helio is obviously talented on the dance floor, and seems like he's enjoying himself, but I like Mark's personality too, because he's not letting the fact that he can't dance as well stop him, and as far as I'm concerned, fortitude is half the battle. I could care less about what goes on at some of the games that people are commenting on.

He's also very entertaining when he gives an interview - he has a self-deprecating sense of humor. Something that I would not suspect from a business man of his stature. He says he has lost 25 lbs since DWTS.
I thought the judges were unfair. The guy comes out and entertains and is having a great time. And he works hard at it. So what if his technique is not perfect???
